Introduction

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour is an impressive military first-person shooter from Gameloft. Following an overarching tale of terrorists launching simultaneous attacks around the world and kidnapping the president, the game puts you in the role of several different characters, both good and bad. It will without doubt remind you a little bit of the Call of Duty series, but that is not a bad thing. The controls can be frustrating at times on the smaller devices, but overall they offer a solid experience. The game also boasts full multiplayer support online and over Wifi. The online community is routinely less than a couple at any given time and the servers are sketchy at best, so don't get too excited about taking your skills online to prove yourself. Currently the game is listed at $6.99 in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Single-player campaign (13 for 125 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The single player campaign can be played on easy difficulty with no penalty and consists of 12 linear missions. There are no achievements strictly related to completing the campaign, but several achievements require some progression through campaign. The "Incoming!" achievement is most easily (and maybe only) obtained during Mission 7, so you will want to progress at least that far.

Step 2: Multiplayer (7 for 75 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The online multiplayer community in this game is already dead. With that said, your best bet is to find other players to boost with. See THIS thread for other players looking to boost. All but one of the achievements only require you to find one other partner, but the "MVP" achievement will require nine others. Once you find the partners, all of these achievements can be earned in a couple hours or less.

Conclusion

Modern Combat 4 is actually a very good shooter. The campaign is meaty for a phone game, but the lack of an online crowd really makes the entire multiplayer half of the game a fail and essentially unplayable. The achievements are not too bad, but you will definitely need to set-up a boosting session to earn the 10-player achievement, which is by no means a small feat. The fact that the game is currently uncompletable due to a glitched campaign achievement should not keep you from playing this gem.

NOTE: Many of the game's achievements can be obtained in campaign AND multiplayer. The guide will mention the easiest method. If you have several boosting partners, some that are specified for campaign could be easier in multiplayer, but that wont be considered here.

GUIDE

SINGLE PLAYER ACHIEVEMENTS (13 for 125 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 13 achievements are obtained by completing miscellaneous tasks or requirements and are either only obtainable or most easily obtainable in the single-player campaign portion of the game.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPogqUM=.jpg Beginner - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill the 1st enemy

This achievement requires that you kill an enemy for the first time. This will come quick as soon as you start the first mission in campaign. Just kill any enemy you see. Tap the cross-hair button to zoom-in if you need to.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPsu-1o=.jpg Upgrade - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Change the weapon

This achievement requires that you change your weapon for the first time. At the start of the first mission, tap the image of your gun in to the top right corner of the screen and swipe left or right to change to your pistol, unlocking this achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPkP9u8=.jpg Killer - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform the 1st headshot

This achievement requires that you kill an enemy with a headshot for the first time. This will come quick as soon as you start the first mission in campaign. Use the assault rifle and tap the cross-hairs button to zoom-in. Auto-aim will generally take you to the torso region of enemies, so after zooming, manually adjust your rifle up a bit and take the headshot.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UP9s7DA=.jpg Grenade - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform the 1st grenade

This achievement requires that you throw your fist grenade. Grenades are a premium item in the game and must be purchased with credits earned in-game. However, you are given three grenades for free at the start of each mission. Tap the grenade button (it is right above and to the right of the shoot button) to chuck a grenade, unlocking this achievement. If you do not see that button, you do not have any grenades.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPrOB8k=.jpg Jumper - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Jump over the 1st obstacle

See "Athletic Training."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPsdxkY=.jpg Athletic Training - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Jump over 20 obstacles in the same game

These achievements require you to jump over obstacles. "Jumper" is awarded for jumping over one for the first time, while "Athletic Training" requires you to jump over 20 obstacles in the same campaign mission or multiplayer match.

At the very beginning of the first campaign mission, as soon as you get off the boat, there will be a small fence of sorts in front of you to the left. Repeatedly jump over this fence until you reach 20. Obstacles are climbed by pressing the sprint button (just below and to the left of the shoot button).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPk8z-M=.jpg Splash Damage - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Damage three enemies with the same Frag grenade

This achievement requires that you kill three enemies with a single frag grenade. While the official achievement description states that you only need to "damage" three enemies, you do in fact need to fully kill all three from my experience (this is stated in the in-game achievement list as well). Presumably this can be done in multiplayer, but it is easy enough to do in campaign.

Load up Mission 2: Unified Terrorism and make sure you have several grenades. If you do not have any, purchase some through the in-game store which is accessed by tapping the upward pointing arrow next to the radar map in the top left corner of the screen (while in a mission). The cost is 3 grenades for 1,500 credits (a small sum, really). Progress through the mission until you are tasked with activating the second of two computer panels. Just after you activate this panel, you will have to defend your partner Saunders as he is crouched over to the right. As soon as you touch the panel, move the right to the platform overlooking Saunders. In the back of the room, around six enemies will spawn and begin to run towards Saunders, shooting at him. Throw a grenade basically at or just slightly behind Saunders. It will roll, and the enemies will scurry forward to escape the grenade. Now, cook another grenade (hold the grenade button briefly before releasing it) and chuck it closer than the first one, into the large mob of enemies. They will not have as much time to escape because it was cooked and if things go your way, it will explode killing at least three of them.

This will probably take several tries as the enemies spawn and behave slightly differently each time. Just keep at it as a bit of luck is involved. If you chuck your two grenades and dont get the achievement, just let the enemies kill Saunders. This will fail the mission and you will begin at the checkpoint right before pushing the computer panel. Even better, this also seems to restore your grenades that you used about 80% of the time, so you wont have to keep purchasing them that quickly.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPylVrQ=.jpg Ricochet - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill an enemy with a throwing knife's ricochet

This achievement requires that you kill an enemy with a throwing knife that has ricocheted off of a surface beforehand. This can ONLY be done in CAMPAIGN. You will first need to purchase a pack of throwing knives (5 knives for 1,500 credits). Once purchased, the throwing knife button will replace the grenade button on your HUD. There is no specific location for easily obtaining this achievement. You just need to find a single enemy to attempt this achievement on. Make sure you are playing on easy, get relatively close to them and line up your cross-hairs on the ground in front of the enemy (with Aim Assist on, this may be a challenge, turn it off from Pause Menu under Options if you need to). Hit the knife button and the knife should bounce of the ground in front of the enemy and then hit and kill them. If you're fighting with other allies, be quick as they often kill the enemy while attempting to line up your throw. This may take a few tries but overall it is quite easy to do.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPrGTGs=.jpg Bull's Eye - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform 100 headshots

See "Dragon's Eye."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPsmtPg=.jpg Eagle's Eye - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform 500 headshots

See "Dragon's Eye."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPkHvU0=.jpg Dragon's Eye - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Perform 1000 headshots

These achievements require that you perform a total of 1000 headshots. Both multiplayer and campaign headshots count towards these achievements. However, due to the lack of online community and relative ease with which you can get headshots in campaign, you should focus there.

After playing the campaign, the best spot I have found to grind this achievement is on Mission 6: Manhunt. Play through the mission as normal. You will come to a sniper rifle that is mentioned by your partner. Be sure to pick it up for later. Progress further through the mission until you come to the black loading screen. Just after that loading screen, there is a sniping section where you are overlooking a courtyard from a broken building. Around 15 enemies will spawn in succession as you attempt to protect your partner as he moves across the courtyard. All of them will be standing still at some point so wait for it. Line up their heads with the zoomed sniper and take them out as fast as possible, as if you are too slow your partner will kill them.

There are three guys that spawn immediately when the scene starts. Three more spawn out of the alley on the right. Then one on the far balcony. As your partner advances to the fountain, one will spawn right under you and two from the far corridor straight ahead. Two will jump out from behind the truck on the left. And finally two will spawn on the upper balcony at the far end of the courtyard. As soon as you kill both enemies on this balcony at the end, pause and reload the checkpoint.

You wont be able to track how many total headshots you have grinded, but they all will count behind the scenes. You should be able to get 10 to 14 headshots per attempt of the checkpoint, which takes around 75 seconds to complete. This will earn you 400 to 560 headshots per hour. If you always try to get headshots while playing through the campaign, you really shouldn't have too much additional grinding to do at the end. Not more than one hour.

Finish a mission without ever taking damage

*WARNING: UNOBTAINABLE* This achievement requires that you complete an entire campaign mission without taking any damage. I wont waste too much time explaining this one, as it is currently unobtainable. The requirements can be met, but the achievement will just not unlock. There is a chance the game could be patched, but it is quite unlikely. This achievement will probably elude everyone forever.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPvAUdA=.jpg Incoming! - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill two enemies with a single rocket

This achievement requires that you kill two enemies by firing a single rocket and it is ONLY obtainable in CAMPAIGN. The first location you can earn this in campaign is during Mission 7: Critical Path. The entire mission has you gunning from an airborne drone. The drone's starting gun is a machine gun, but switching weapons will bring out the rocket launcher. Use this and in no time you will surely kill two enemies with one rocket. In my experience, the achievement doesnt always unlock when you kill two enemies. For me it finally popped when I killed at least four with one rocket. Just use the rocket for most of the mission and there is no chance you wont have this by the end.

MULTIPLAYER ACHIEVEMENTS (7 for 75 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)

The following 7 achievements are obtained by completing miscellaneous tasks or requirements and are ONLY obtainable in the multiplayer portion of the game.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPjcN2A=.jpg World Tour - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Win on every map

This achievement requires that you win a multiplayer match on every map. The game mode does not matter. There a total of 8 maps in the game that must be won on:

  • Alert
  • Landfall
  • Congress
  • Legion
  • Paradise
  • Blockbuster
  • Overtime
  • DogDays

The first seven map wins must be done in ranked matches. However, the final map you are missing of the eight can be done in a custom match. This is a result of the way the game tracks your wins and how the achievement requirements are met. You will need at least one other person in a game to start each match. You both can be on the same team however (playing against no one), but usually the game will put you on opposite teams. The quickest matches to win are ranked Capture the Flag matches. Just run across grab the flag and return it to your base 3 times. Each match should take about 3 minutes including load times. The maps are selected for you randomly (but do seem to cycle in order). At the end of each match, the next map will be shown. If you do not need it, you can both push the "Thumbs Down" button to decline it and automatically load another random map. Combine this achievement with some of the other multiplayer ones to minimize time. As mentioned, for your final map, you can play a custom Capture the Flag match with the Score Limit set to 1.

NOTE: You can check which maps you won RANKED matches on from the HQ, in the Challenges.

Win 5 multiplayer matches in a row

This achievement requires that you win 5 games in a row. The game type or map does not matter as long as you dont lose a game. Both ranked and custom matches count towards this. It doesnt have to be done in one sitting. The quickest way to complete this is to play custom Capture the Flag matches with the Score Limit set to 1. Run across the map, grab the flag and return it to your base to win. Each match will take 2 minutes including load times. You do need at least one other player in order to start the match. Keep switching the map to maintain progress towards "World Tour."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UPyeJAo=.jpg MVP - 5 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Finish 1st in a multiplayer match of 10 players or more

This achievement requires that you finish first in a multiplayer match with at least 10 TOTAL players in the game. Without boosting, this achievement is downright impossible as the online community is completely dead. Use the Achievement Trading Thread or create/join a Gaming Session on True Achievements. At current demand, there is about one chance per month to earn this during a scheduled True Achievements session. Once the session is set up, the group should play 10 consecutive custom Capture the Flag matches with the Score Limit set to 1. The player going for the achievement should capture the sole flag in the game which will give them first place. Good luck trying for this one. It is the hardest multiplayer achievement simply due to the amount of cooperation that is needed.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UP6-Lb8=.jpg Finders Keepers - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Win a Manhunt game by scoring every point for your team

This achievement requires that you win a Manhunt game scoring every point for your team. Manhunt mode consists of two teams fighting for control of a single flag in the middle of the map. Once a player grabs a flag, he starts racking up score for his team, one point for every 5 seconds carrying the flag.. The other team tries to kill them and take the flag. So essentially you must be only one on your team to hold the flag from your team in a winning match. You need at least one other player to start a match. Create a custom Manhunt match with a Time Limit set to the minimum (5 minutes). The player going for the achievement should grab the flag from its starting position and hold it until time expires.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UP9kp5I=.jpg Survivor - 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill 20 enemies in a row without dying

This achievement requires that you kill 20 enemies in a row without dying and it can ONLY be obtained in MULTIPLAYER. This can be earned across multiple games, game modes, and ranked or custom matches. It does not need to be done in the same match, as long as you don't die. You will need at least one other player and they must be on the other team for you to kill them. Avoid random players that might unknowingly ruin your boosting session by playing a less popular game type like Manhunt.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UP6EXwE=.jpg Furiously Fast - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Win a game in less than 2 minutes.

This achievement requires that you win a multiplayer match in less than 2 minutes. The only game mode this is realistically possible in with a limited number of players (you plus one other player) is custom Capture the Flag with the Score Limit set to 1. Quickly grab the flag and return it to your base to end the match; this should take around one minute. Choose Blockbuster or Congress as they are smaller maps. Make sure to constantly utilize the sprint button (below and to left of shoot button) during the flag run to ensure you beat the 2-minute limit.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2666/UP9kp5I=.jpg Commando - 15 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Kill 10 enemies in a row without firing a bullet

This achievement requires that you kill 10 enemies in a row without firing a bullet and it can ONLY be obtained in MULTIPLAYER. This can be earned across multiple games, game modes, and ranked or custom matches. It does not need to be done in the same match, as long as you don't fire a bullet at all. You will need at least one other player and they must be on the other team for you to kill them. Avoid random players that might unknowingly ruin your boosting session by playing a less popular game types like Manhunt. Attempt this achievement alongside "Survivor" to kill two birds with one stone.
