Introduction:

Legends and Killers brings back some of the old and adds to the new Red Dead Redemption experience. You will be tested by some of the new achievements, and experience characters from Red Dead Revolver. There are several new playlists to use with these new characters, and a set of achievements to go with them.

Breakdown:

Before you start playing online you will want to buy the Tomahawk from the Manzanita Post and complete the related challenges in single player. You will then know how to use the Tomahawk and take it into a multiplayer environment.

Challenges:

The challenges are pretty straightforward and should require little effort if you have already completed the endless list of retail based challenges. Some can be tricky but there are ways around, and methods to make them a little easier. There are five ranks in total which shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to complete.

If you are new to the single player and haven't opened up The North yet you won't be able to complete these challenges until you do. You need to progress through the story past Mexico so you can access the Manzanita Post located just north of Thieves' Landing.

Characters: Red & Pig Josh

You will find these two characters with several others in the outfitter through the multiplayer menu. Your requirements for each are simple enough, but they may take some effort and patience on your part. If you have a friend who is also willing to take part in completing this DLC you can play and earn these two together. You can either do these in public or private free roam, just keep at it until you both have the achievements.

Legends & Killers Playlists:

The bulk of the DLC is made up through online playlist challenges. Some are tricky but if you use the Achievement Trading Thread, you can find several people to take part in earning the last few achievements.

You can complete "Call it a Comeback!", "Stick and Move", "Hail Mary", "Headhunter" and "Call it a Comeback!" with just two people. But you will need three extra players to complete "Who needs Deadeye?" and "Double Bagger" on your own.

If you follow the guide below you shouldn't have too many issues, but you will need to use the Achievement Trading Thread or ask several friends to help you complete some of these achievements with ease.

The last thing you should have to do after completing all this is pushing through to level 50. You can then become a Wild West Legend; this basically involves resetting your online profile to zero and starting over but with a Legend status. If you have already done this, the achievement should have already unlocked for you while playing online.

Conclusion:

This set of achievements isn't impossible, but some may test your patience. If you don't have other players to work through the achievements with, you could spend a few hours trying to pull off the more difficulty ones. Overall the DLC is a nice addition if you enjoy the multiplayer experience. You will have several new characters, multiplayer playlists, challenges and a new weapon to use.

Come back from a 2-0 deficit and win a Hold Your Own game.

Hold your own consists of two teams. Your goal is to capture the other teams gold and win overall. For this achievement you need to let the other team win by two captures. Then once they hit two you will need to win the game by exceeding their captures and win the match. The only way you will be able to do this without struggling online is gain experience in the game it's self and the maps you play on. If you have a good team and can overpower the other team with little effort you shouldn't have an issue with this.

Boosting Method:

If you are having trouble earning these achievements without getting frustrated, you can setup a boosting match with a few friends. Head into a public freeroam and meet up at a town of your choice. Make sure the freeroam is rather empty, as other players just tend to interfere. Have everyone meet at the marker of choice, now make sure everyone presses :ybut: roughly at the same time. You will now all be taken into the same game mode and lobby. You can now setup different game matches by skipping through the playlists by press :dleft: to skip or :dright: to start a match.

Just skip through the various matches until you find the mode you want. Once you join the game work out which achievements you're working towards, if other players join you can vote to kick them if they become an issue.

Kill 3 or more players in a standoff or showdown.

If you're fairly lucky and most other players aren't aiming at you, you should be able to kill three other people while dodging out the way. You may need to play several standoffs/showdowns to do so, but it depends how quick you are at drawing. I recommend you play a standard playlist and not the advanced as then you can take advantage of the lock on feature with the draw. To snap between players, aim towards someone and then quickly tap the :ltbut: to snap onto the player. Keep doing this until you have killed three other players.

Alternatively you can find three other people to join you in a Free For All match, then have them stand there while you take it in turns to kill each other for the achievement requirements.

See "Call it a Comeback!" for boosting information.

Get 3 kills with knives or throwing knives in a single competitive match.

A competitive match consists of any Free For All playlist. Once you get into a Free For All match, change over to your knife. With the knife equipped you can now make your way around trying to earn your three kills with throwing knives/knife. Try to sneak up behind players so you catch them off guard as once you're spotted they will most likely kill you before you can react.

You can use the same method mentioned in "Call it a Comeback!" to get into the same game modes. Just get close enough to another play and either knife them, or use a throwing knife if you have found one through your multiplayer session.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UPrIvgg=.jpgDouble bagger - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Double capture 3 times in a single Gold Rush map.

This will be tricky for some when it comes to the more populated games. Once you enter a Gold Rush match you will need to scramble to grab two bags and drop them in the chest. You need to repeat this three times over the course of a single match.

If you don't have enough experience with this game mode, you can find someone to setup a match with and collect the bags while they stand around.

Note: To do this on your own with other players, you will need two other people. This game mode will only spawn one bag with two players, and two bags with three.

Tips and Tricks:

You're going to want to use your strongest weapon to start with, or a weapon with a decent mid to long range unless you're playing in a crowded game. Use cover when possible and pay close attention to your map. Once you have two bags you will move slower so make sure you know where your drop chest is.

You may also want to dodge around, you can slide into cover with the :rbbut: and roll while aiming by pressing :xbut:. Unless you play a lot of Gold Rush this may take some time to complete until you gain some experience.

See "Call it a Comeback!" for boosting information.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UPnvqgY=.jpgHeadhunter - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Kill 5 players via headshot in a single Shootout or Gang Shootout.

You can either do this online or with a friend. Make sure you're in a Shootout or Gang shootout game mode and achieve five headshots within the match. While aiming at other players, lock on to them with the :ltbut: push up on the :rs: to aim for their head. If you don't already do this you should as it's an instant kill with most rifles.

If you take cover a lot and stay still the other players on the map won't be able to see your position. This will help you pick off the odd person running around on their own trying to snipe others.

See "Call it a Comeback!" for boosting information.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UPgPUpU=.jpgLegendary - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Reach level 50 and pass into Legend.

Before you can turn into a Legend you need to level up through the different levels in multiplayer until you hit 50. Once you hit level 50 you will be given the change to start over again as a Legend.

To change your status from rank 50 back to a rank 1 Legend hit :back: while in multiplayer, then go down to the multiplayer tab. You should see your multiplayer profile on the screen; press :ybut: while on this screen and you will pass through to your next round of leveling. Just be careful not to hit :ybut: while in this menu if you don't want to level up just yet.

If you have passed over and already become a Legend, this achievement will unlock automatically once you start playing multiplayer.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UPuxv1Q=.jpgHail Mary - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Get a kill greater than 35 yards with a Tomahawk.

There are two ways to complete this; one is to invite a friend into a free roam and start throwing Tomahawk's at each other from various distances. The other involves throwing a Tomahawk's down onto enemies from a great height. This achievement will require a lot of trial and error so be prepared to spend a few minutes with various trial and error attempts.

If you don't want to do this with someone else, head to Pike's Basin, start the hideout and allow yourself to die. You will now start at the very top of the canyon, instead of heading down, head to the far right of the canyon where you will find the furthest most objective. Stand up on the ridge and pick a target. You're now going to want to aim about an inch above the targets head. Throw a Tomahawk, then move your crosshair up if you miss. Keep doing this until you hit the enemy below.

Attempting this on flat ground can be quite tricky and require a lot of trial and error. With the Pike's Basin method you will already be well above your enemy and have a good 100 yards or so, you just need to hit the enemy.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UPmQtuE=.jpgAxe Master - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Complete all Tomahawk challenges in Single Player.

Before you can start these challenges you need to head to the Manzanita Post, you can buy the 20 Tomahawks for $10 each. Once you have the Tomahawk you can proceed to complete the following challenges:

Tomahawk Mastery Rank 2

Kill one enemy with the tomahawk used as a throwing weapon, one as a melee weapon, and one from horseback.

You can do these three just about anywhere that you encounter enemies. Animal enemies do not count towards the criteria, but you can head to any hideout and complete these in a matter of minutes.

The melee attack doesn't haven't to be done on an enemy, it seems to count if you equip a bandana and kill any of the none hostile characters around town. Head to Thieves' Landing and take out any of people walking around. Just walk up to the person you want to kill, stand close and use the tomahawk as if you were to throw it, instead you will kill the person you're facing by hitting them with the Tomahawk instead.

With the next two, which involve throwing the tomahawk, head to Pike's Basin, use dead eye and carefully pick off one of the guys hiding behind the rocks at the start. Once you complete that part of the challenge, jump on your horse and do the same.

Just remember, using deadeye may help you aim, but once you throw the enemy may duck down or move. So aim carefully.

Tomahawk Mastery Rank 3

Kill a flying bird with a tomahawk without using deadeye.

This sounds fairly difficult, but it is fairly simple and easy to do. Head to any of the hideouts, I decided to stick with Twin Rocks as it's small and quick. Kill everyone and complete the hideout, once you complete the hideout get onto the roof of the house. You will now have several vultures flying above you, these are one of the larger birds in the game so they are easy to hit without a struggle. Load up on tomahawks and just carefully aim and throw.

Tomahawk Mastery Rank 4

Kill 5 enemies in a row without missing with the tomahawk.

This is another challenge, which can easily be completed at Twin Rocks. Take out the first two guys high up on the rocks with a rifle, they are easy to miss so there is no reason to waste tomahawks on them.

You will have four guys left in front of you, then another three will exit the house once they are killed. Carefully work your way around the cover and use your deadeye and melee enemies with the tomahawk as much as possible. Doing this will allow you to score the kills without missing. You will also perform an instant kill rather than having to aim carefully with your throws.

Tomahawk Mastery Rank 5

Complete a hideout using only tomahawks.

This final challenge can also be completed at Twin Rocks. You can repeat the same as Rank 4, but make sure you aim carefully for the guys up high on the rocks. Try to get as close as you can and use deadeye as much as possible.

Just take your time and use the tomahawk's melee attack often so you don't waste how many you have.

Alternative Method:

It seems that once you earn Rank 4 it resets the counter for the hideouts. If you complete Master Rank 4 then continue inside the house and kill the last enemy, it seems to count for the last challenge. If this doesn't work for you, it might have just been a freak glitch, but it's worth a try as you won't lose out on anything.

Get 25 Deadeye kills with Red.

See "Reeeeal Good"

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/961/UP3SpYs=.jpgReeeeal Good - 10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.png

Get 25 Dynamite kills with Pig Josh.

Head into any multiplayer mode and then press :back: and then :xbut: to enter the outfitter. You will find Red and Pig Josh within the Red Dead Revolver menu. Once you have selected which character you want to use, proceed to a public/private freeroam or Legends and Killers playlists.

Red:

Select Red from the Red Dead Revolver multiplayer menu then head into either a public/private freeroam or Legends & killers playlist and hunt for the deadeye refills. You can always spot deadeye refill crates as they are marked with a green marker on your mini map. Once you have Have your deadeye ready to use, either hunt other players or a friend and click the :rs: to use deadeye. Lock onto them and kill them. Repeat this until the achievement unlocks.

Pig Josh:

Much like Red you will find Pig Josh in the same multiplayer outfitters menu. Head into a public/private freeroam or Legends playlist. Equip your dynamite located in the top left of the weapon wheel and kill 25 other people. Most games modes don't have dynamite in the levels so I suggest you do this in the free roam sections as you will start off with dynamite in your weapon wheel if you have unlocked it.

Note: To unlock the dynamite for Pig Josh or any other character, you need to reach level 15 to unlock this weapon.

Would it be worth a mention that a double capture isn't "boostable" but entirely "possible" with two people?

If it isn't worth a mention in the guide, I'll mention it in my post :D

If you are going for "double bagger" but only have 1 other person with you, you can really really gang up on the third person in a free-for-all match and get the achievement pretty handily. It's first to ten bags, so trade off three double captures all while torturing that poor third random player. They might kill you here and there but your friend can back you up.

That is very true as we know, but very unfair :p.

I do think using three people you know for that one is the better route, ganging up on another player is just harsh.

Yes, to everyone out there, that's what me and Fizz did actually. God it was fun. The better route IS with three people, but it's possible with one or two.

Another thing I will add (the guide is very thorough as it is already...) is for the single player challenge Rank 2 and Rank 4, you can do them entirely on civilians/non-hostiles if you choose. I bought the Tomahawk in Tall Trees, threw one at one guy, melee'd another, than called my horse and threw another. I'm was wearing my Bureau outfit and a bandanna so no loss.

Rank 4, same thing. I bought some more Tomahawks after taking care of the birds. I was in the area between Blackwater and Tall Trees. Threw some at civilians driving a stagecoach, others. Rank 5 was the first time I used it on an "enemy".

Does it matter what weapon you use for original gunslinger? I've been using the buffalo rifle so I'm guaranteed a kill and it ain't unlocking. Killed close to 40 people now.

Edit nevermind just got it in a shootout match, wasn't unlocking in free roam for some reason.

Didnt they patch the throwing knives glitch? Today I had my dead eye meter at around 3/4 of the way full, locked onto a kid, and it wouldn't activate. I've done it before, so I know I'm doing it right.
Most likely, which was a good thing. It just got annoying where people would kill you from a mile away with a throwing knife. It's not hard to get three kills with the knife or throwing knives though. Just sneak up behind people who are trying to snipe others.

Should I ''Pass into Legend'' right now or wait for the next DLC?

Edit: Great guide, buddy!

I was in the same position as you, wondering if I should or not. Seeing as it's a double XP weekend right now, well you have 8/9 hours left, you could pass through into Legend and then rank up some more. I just hit Legend 1 Rank 50 about an hour ago, so far it's been fun and given me something else to do.

When you pass into Legend though, you will earn your weapons and mounts a lot faster than you do the first time around. Take your pick really I guess, I wasn't sure to begin with then decided to and rank up to level 50 again.

Thanks for the info! I forgot it was a double XP weekend.

I'll do like you, I'll play few hours to be at least level 20. I should be good for the next DLC!

Thanks again buddy!

If they did patch it, then you should correct your guide. There are some areas that say you can use deadeye to complete certain challenges, and in the Stick and Move guide. I don't know if you're only able to do it single player hence the "kill a flying bird with a tomahawk without using deadeye." I don't see why they would put that if you're not even able to do it in the first place. But then again, it could just be an error on their part.

"Normally most guides i write i will have either, rented, traded or sold the game you want help on."

Can you possibly capitalize the two i's. It's bugging me a little. Sorry for that. I know that I probably have errors in my posts, but still.......

I was wondering if you needed the DLC to get the new achievements. Obviously you do for the new weapon and characters, but for the ones like passing into legend, or comeback, do you need to have the DLC?

Thought this DLC was kinda bad, so I'm waiting for it to go on sale. The rest of the DLC they have planned this year looks good.

I've updated the first part wit the deadeye and throwing knives. Though right now, I don't really feel like updating that message. I will do at some point, but I need to update it on every other guide I've written. Seeing as I have done over 100 guides on this site, it's just not something I'm going to make a priority now. It's not all that important ;). It's not really part of the guide, it's just a general message so it can wait for now.

I'll confirm that this worked for me as well. I was at Twin Rocks. Killed the two guys high up on the rocks and the one on the roof with my rifle. Then killed the other 5 on the ground with my tomahawk for the Rank 4, then killed the final guy in the room with the girl and after a min it gave me the Rank 5 and achievement.

Also, great guide, thanks for writing it.

and lick the :rs: to use deadeye.

I don't think licking the stick is going to do much, haha :p.

Also, (just for perspective I guess) it's 36-37 yards from the outer rock wall to the porch of the run down mansion at Tumbleweed. That's where I happened to get Hail Mary whilst messing around.

The way listed in the guide does seem more effective though as it took me quite awhile to hit the guy from the bottom of the incline.

Nice guide, btw.

You should mention under the description for Legendary that if you have access to a flash drive you don't have to rank back up again. Just simply back up the save to the flash drive and select it when you start the game. Then go through the menu and get the achievement and go back and select your original save and delete the one that got you the achievement if you want.
