Self-Introduction:

Hey, I'm CJ. This is my first guide here on x360a, so please bear with me. I am extremely excited and honored to be the one writing the guide for quite possibly the best 360 game to date (or at least the best fighting one). Constructive criticism is not only welcome, but it is encouraged. I want to know what I could have done better and what I did wrong so that I can not only fix it, but also so I can be better prepared for the next guide I write, whenever that may be. Hopefully I did alright on this first one.

Game Introduction:

Here it is, the Mortal Kombat game we've been waiting for ever since Trilogy. This marks the first time Mortal Kombat has dug back to its true 2D roots on console in a full retail game since the 1990's. Following Midway's collapse a few years back, Warner Brothers came along and funded Ed Boon to create a new studio with most of the same people from the old Mortal Kombat team. The newly created development team, NetherRealm Studios was thus founded, and it set out on one goal: to bring glory back to the Mortal Kombat series. WB was very generous in giving NetherRealm all the time and resources it needed to make just that happen.

The beginning of the story starts out during the final events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Shao Kahn is finally about to slay Raiden and bring about Armageddon to the realm of Earth. Just before Shao Kahn strikes the final blow, Raiden uses his amulet to send a message to his former self at the beginning of the events of Mortal Kombat 1, just before the tournament. The story then picks up during this past time with Raiden's amulet cracking. He has visions of all the events that are to occur. He then knows it is his job to prevent them from happening. How to do that exactly is what he is about to struggle with greatly.

Breakdown:

If you are an experienced Mortal Kombat and/or 2D fighter game player, this new fighting system will most likely come natural to you. Even then, there are a few achievements here that are going to be tough no matter how good you are. For beginners, be thankful that most of the achievements are easy to obtain, and can be done on the easily difficulty. This new game is much more beginner-friendly, and has modes that will teach you how to better your skills, as well as let you practice. For more advanced players, the system is more than deep enough to allow you to hone your skills and tear through the competition.

You can unlock these achievements in any order your heart desires, however, there is a set path I would recommend for various reasons. In this section, I will tell you the order in which I personally believe you should unlock these in.

FIRST SET:

- A for Effort (Complete Tutorial Mode) *do this first to get a feel for the new system before anything else

- License to Kill (Complete Fatality Trainer) *do this to get a feel for a few fatalities and how to pull them off, and at what distances

- Block This! (Perform a 10-hit combo) *do this seeing as a future patch may end up taking away your ability to get this achievement by simply hitting Sonya's X-Ray attack

SECOND SET:

- Play story mode because it is absolutely fantastic, and easily the best mode in the game... it will also net you a LOT of koins for use in the Krypt

- Complete the Arcade Ladder achievements to get used to every character, which will prepare you for Challenge Tower

- Unlock everything in the Krypt since you'll now have enough koins to do so

- Move onto the "Test Your" modes to get those achievements banged out and to prepare yourself for Challenge Tower

- Complete the Challenge Tower

THIRD SET:

- At this point, you should be comfortable (and good) enough to go ahead and start your ranked online achievements

FOURTH SET:

- Mop up the last few remaining achievements by boosting online

- Check your stats for every character, and then play as much of the game as possible with each if you are going for the ever so time-consuming "My Kung Fu Is Stronger" achievement

---

QUICK KEY:

Attack 1 or simply "1" - front punch (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/x.png button on default configuration)

Attack 2 or simply "2" - back punch (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/y.png button on default configuration)

Attack 3 or simply "3" - front kick (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/a.png button default configuration)

Attack 4 or simply "4" - back kick (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/b.png button on default configuration)

REGULAR ONLINE ACHIEVEMENTS

Boostable. Currently, there are some problems with the servers causing sessions to be unavailable when inviting friends, similar to the old Resident Evil 5 problem. This will undoubtedly get patched however. Until then, if invites to private matches aren't working, simply start a room and tell your boosting partner to join it. Or you can both join a room that already exists. When you get into a room, only accept challenges from your partner. Switch off wins so you both end up reaching 100 for the Wavenet... achievement. For the first win each, make sure to get a flawless victory for the Humiliation achievement.

This one might be a bit of a pain unless boostable in the future. I would suggest beating the snot out of your opponent to the best of your ability in both rounds, then simply blocking and avoiding the rest of his attacks on you for the remainder of the clock without attacking him at all. It's important to know the moves of the character you are facing so that you know how to avoid them, as blocking moves will still cause a slight amount of damage to you.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-8OBUY=.jpgI'm Not Dead Yet! - Comeback with under 10% health in an Online Ranked Match (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

If you are playing online regularly, this will most likely pop up naturally. In order for this to unlock, the opponent simply needs to have more health than you while you are at 10%, then you must defeat him or her. The perfect way to do this is to conserve an X-Ray attack, then launch it at the opponent once you are at 10%. If that isn't enough, then keep the pressure on him best you can until you have defeated him.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-s5DH4=.jpgThrows Are For Champs - Perform 8 throws in an Online Ranked Match (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

By the standard button configuration, throw is performed by hitting the Right Bumper (RB). To throw an opponent, simply get in close to them and either hit the button to throw them forward, or hold Back as you hit the button to throw them behind you. Spam this move 8 times and this achievement will unlock. Again, blocking is your best friend. Most up-close and personal attacks such as Scorpion's teleport that you block will leave the opponent vulnerable, allowing you to easily throw them.

Unless someone you get ranked against is polite and willing to let you beat them so you can get this achievement (which is unlikely), you'll need to get this legit. First of all, it says no jumping. Says nothing about blocking. Pick a character that has a good projectile game and quick moves such as Reptile. His invisibility will also come in handy (he can become completely invisible if you use a bar on your super meter to turn invisible). Keep your distance, and spam projectiles. Block as much as possible, even while you are inputting special moves. Whenever you are not executing a move, block. If the opponent gets too close, use a quick regular move to knock him or her back. Basically, just play a really good defensive game, and hope you are lucky enough to face a noob. When you first go online, this is the very first achievement you should be trying for. Remember, think of it like an Arcade Ladder; the more you rank up, the better your opponents are going to be.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-1aFqE=.jpgOutstanding! - Win 10 Ranked Online Matches in a row (60http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This, unless it proves to be boostable in the future, is one of the hardest achievements in the game to get. In general, people who play online tend to be really good. The key to getting good like them is the Practice mode, and to play arcade ladder on high difficulties. My advice is to pick a character whose moves are generally easy to pull off and are quick. Combos that use the two punch buttons only are the easiest to pull off. Also, expect to see a LOT of people playing as popular male ninja characters such as Smoke, Scorpion, Noob Saibot, and Ermac. It would be best to learn these characters moves first so you know what to expect from them and what (and who) to counter with. You are likely to see a few other characters in attempting this however, so be ready. The first thing I'd suggest is the obvious and the most important - BLOCK! If you don't have a good blocking game, you are toast. With that being said, here are the best characters (according to the kollector's edition strategy guide) to use against the popular ones:

The worst matchup for Smoke is Raiden. From the guide:

"Smoke can't keep Raiden at bay with the Smoke Cloud. It's just not a possibility. What Smoke wants to do is get enough meter to perform a Vibration attack when Raiden teleports behind behind him (since Raiden generally likes to mount offense as soon as he appears behind an opponent). If he can get a couple bars of meter without having to use it for a breaker, then Smoke can win. If not, Raiden will almost certain win with high-damaging combos."

The worst matchup for Noob Saibot is Jade. From the guide:

"Whereas Nightwolf cannot use a special move to thwart Noob's Shadow attacks, Jade is the opposite. Her Shadow Flash renders Noob's Shadow attacks almost useless as long as she can perform it consistently and not have it hinder the flow of what she has to do in order to reap the benefits of the Shadow Flash. If Jade activates the Shadow Glow and performs a Reboomerang, this nullifies almost all of Noob's options. If Noob throws a Shadow at Jade around the same time she does this, it will pass through her and he will eat two hits from the Reboomerang. If he tries to counter the Reboomerang by performing a Teleport Slam, the Reboomerang will hit Noob on its way back from the other side of the screen and break his momentum. In close, Jade can pressure with 3, 4 into her Staff Overhead and with low attacks comboed into her Shadow Kick. Noob's attacks in close quarters are just slow enough to not pose any retaliatory threat. This matchup can only be competitive if Jade can't maintain her Shadow Glow consistently. Jade has Noob's number from the beginning of the round until she finishes him."

The worst matchup for Scorpion is Mileena. From the guide:

"Her special moves naturally lend themselves to be counter to Scorpion's special moves. For instance, her Ball Roll goes under his Spear. Her Teleport Drop can land on top of him as he's performing a Spear or Demon Fire. She can perform her Air Sai Blasts very low to the ground so that Scorpion doesn't have enough time to react with a Teleport (to counter her from behind on her way down) or a Demon Fire (since he gets hit with the Air Sai Blast). This is a very competitive matchup on the surface, but Mileena definitely has Scorpion's number."

The worst matchup for Ermac is Shang Tsung. From the guide:

"Even with the ability to teleport behind Shang and punish a projectile, it's still hard to establish a rhythm against him without being worried sick about the Ground Skulls. If Ermac can determine when Shang Tsung will throw them, Shang can perform a Ground Eruption, which can stop Ermac from trying to follow up after a successful Force Port. Beyond Ermac's Force Port, he really can't hang with Shang Tsung's projectile game outside of Trading a Force Push with a projectile just to score damage. Either way, you still end up on opposite sides of the screen where Shang is at his most comfortable. This matchup can be competitive if Ermac can see patterns in Shang's projectile assault. If not, he is but another soul for Shang Tsung's collection."

I haven't played online matches myself, but I've watched my friend play quite a few of them, and these are the 4 characters I kept seeing the most. If there are other really popular ones, let me know and I will add their worst matchups to the achievement guide.

Either way you look at it though, you have to be really good in order to get this achievement. There's no two ways about it.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-4CHkg=.jpgUltimate Respect! - Earn 2500 Respect Points via King of the Hill Matches (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

King of the Hill achievements can be boosted with a party of only 2 people. One helpful tip to make this far less time-consuming is for both players to enter "044-440" at the versus screen, which will enable "Sans-Mode" (a one-hit kill mode), making the matches go by much quicker. (thanks to neubourn for tip)

If going for this legit, then this is another one that will come over time if you keep playing King of the Hill mode online. My advice would be to just get really good with a character that's not popular. You are likely to get more respect from people if they see that you are good with a character that not everyone in their uncles play as. Again, perfect way to get good? Take advantage of the Practice mode from the main menu. At this time, I'm unsure if this is boostable if you get into a party with 8 people you know. If it is, let me know and I will add this method to the guide.

One way to get this achievement is to boost it in a party of at least 2 people. If going for this legit, then it's the same as playing the game online, except you are playing in an 8-person tournament. For tips on fighting online, read the description for the "Outstanding!" achievement.

REGULAR OFFLINE ACHIEVEMENTS

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-jYrC4=.jpgThe Competitor - Complete 200 Versus matches (online OR offline) (30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

My advice? Obviously offline. I'm pretty sure Arcade Ladder matches don't count towards this, so your best bet is just to plug in a second controller and go to work in 1 on 1 versus matches locally on your 360. A bit time-consuming, but think of it this way, it's good practice.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-tMFiw=.jpgLicense to Kill - Complete Fatality Trainer (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Very easy. This achievement unlocks as soon as you perform one fatality in the Fatality Trainer. Simply press A to set the timer to infinite, then perform a fatality with your favorite character. Hidden fatalities can be performed in this mode, but not babalities.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-uApMc=.jpgA for Effort - Complete Tutorial Mode (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This is easy. Simply do what it tells you to do on the screen. This is a great way to get to know the new Mortal Kombat system, so I would recommend doing this before any other mode. Some people (including myself) have found that pulling off the combos for Johnny Cage in the tutorial can be tough. If you are having trouble, the key is to press the buttons in succession extremely (as in, ungodly) fast. That's the only way they will register. If it's not, it's because you still aren't pulling them off fast enough. Speed with combos is the key to completing this mode. As for when it puts you in the final tag fight against Sektor and Cyrax, make sure you perform all the tasks listed in the bottom right corner of the screen above the super meter as you fight.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-wQLuE=.jpgTag, You're It! - Perform and land a Tag Combo (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This should come naturally in the Tutorial Mode near the end when it has you play as Johnny Cage and Sonya. One of the requirements is to pull off a Tag Combo. See the description for "A for Effort" for more information.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-zlo6M=.jpgBlock This! - Perform a 10-hit combo with any fighter (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Shockingly, this is probably the easiest achievement in the game. Simply perform Sonya's X-Ray attack, which is an 11-hit combo. Bam, achievement unlocked.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-wDRos=.jpgHalfway There! - Complete Story Mode 50% (5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This achievement is story-related and cannot be missed. Before doing story mode, select the difficulty to Beginner. The fights will get harder as you go along even on this difficulty. Most of the fights will be very easy to win. Spam special moves and follow through with basic combos and you'll be fine. The only one that's likely to give you trouble is Shao Kahn during the two times you fight him.

Tips for the first fight against Shao Kahn as Liu Kang:

- Keep your distance at all times, and when he throws his spear at you, simply duck it

- Spam your low fireball from a distance

- When he taunts, move in slightly closer and hit him with either a bicycle kick or a flying kick

Tips for the second fight against Shao Kahn as Raiden (end of the game):

- Once again, keep your distance at all times, and basically just spam the Raiden's dive attack

- When Shao Kahn goes to hit a move on you, use Raiden's teleport, then spam the dive attack

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-4iTz4=.jpgBack In Time... - Complete Story Mode 100% (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

See the description for "Halfway There!".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-rZ9O0=.jpgThere Will Be Blood! - Spill 10,000 pints of blood (40http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This achievement will come naturally over time. I got this during my Story Mode playthrough, and that was the very first thing I did when I got the game.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-kYBcs=.jpgUndertaker - Unlock 50% of the Krypt (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Collection koins in this game is extremely easy. You will get a ton of them just from finishing story mode. To unlock everything, you will need approximately 294,000 koins. There are 20,000 that can be obtained in the Krypt just for discovering secret areas within it. These secret areas are marked by a swarm of little green bugs all crawling around in one little patch. I've noticed that the game seems to be glitched in discovering these, so once you spot the little patch of green bugs, look directly at it, then pause and return, and the game should register the sighting. Here are the four sections:

In the Deadlands, you can find the first 5,000 to the right of DL-52, which is left of the small building next to it.

In the Hollow of Infestation, you can find the next 5,000 along the side wall. It should be near the center. Look to your right with the right stick (if you are actually playing this with a regular 360 controller) as you hug the wall and travel along it.

You'll see the little patch of bugs on the ground in front of one of the wall statues.

In the Meadow of Despair, the next 5,000 are to the right of the nekropolis. Hug the invisible wall to the right of the Nekropolis then as you reach the center, you may have to back up a little bit and look down. Again, if you spot the patch of bugs and it doesn't register, pause, then unpause and it should.

In the Bloodmarsh, the final 5,000 can be located on the side wall to the far right of the Krypt. You should spot the patch of bugs on the crowd near the upper right corner. Again, just like with the Hollow of Infestion, hug the wall, but look left with the right stick. This one can be a pain to spot, but you'll get it with enough patience.

See the description for "Undertaker".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-z8zXw=.jpgYou've Got Style! - Unlock all Alternate Costumes (20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Very easily to obtain. You should have way more than enough koins to purchase all the Alternate Costumes in the Krypt by the time you beat story mode, even if you played it on Beginner difficulty. *Note that after unlocking the alternates in the Krypt, you must visit the Nekropolis to redeem them for use in gameplay. To do this, simply select the character model.

For a list of where the alternate costumes are in the Krypt, refer once again to this guide:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=306640

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-3jvhg=.jpgFatality! - Perform a Fatality (5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Ridiculously easy and self-explanatory. Fatalities are extremely easy to do in this game considering the time it gives you to perform them is about quadruple what it was in the old games. As soon as you win the fight, immediately pause the game, then go to your moves list. Hit A to go to special moves, then scroll all the way down to view your Fatalities. Make sure you scroll over the Fatality and take note of what distance it is telling you to perform it at (it will tell you on the right side when you scroll over it). My advice to perfectly perform a fatality is to first get to the appropriate distance, then use the D-Pad to pull it off. Look at your controller as you are doing it instead of the screen to make sure you are doing it right. You have to do the combination quick, but not as quick as in the old games. For the "Finish What You Start" achievement, perform one with every playable character including Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero. Note that this cannot be done in Fatality Trainer mode. It must be done in Versus Mode or Arcade Ladder.

For a full list of fatalities, refer here:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-xcCxo=.jpgFinish What You Start! - Perform a Fatality with all playable fighters (60http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

See the description for "Fatality!".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-0FWzA=.jpgThe Grappler - Perform every fighter's forward and backwards throws (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Throws in this game by the default controller configuration are mapped to the Right Bumper. You can perform a forward throw by getting right up next to a fighter and holding Towards and pressing the Right Bumper. To perform a backwards throw, simply hold Back and press the Right Bumper. At the time of writing this, I am unsure if doing this in practice mode works. Do this for all playable characters including Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero and it will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-myxRg=.jpge-X-cellent! - Successfully land every playable fighter's X-Ray attack (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

When you are going for the Arcade Champion achievement, simply use an X-Ray at least one time in one fight with each character. If you would rather get this beforehand, you can simply do this in versus mode, or by doing the first Arcade Ladder match, then quitting out and starting another. Not quite sure if this can be done in practice mode, however.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-jLxEQ=.jpgWhat Does This Button Do?? - Complete the Arcade Ladder without blocking (allowed to continue) (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Easy. Again, set the difficulty to Beginner with 1 round to win, then whatever you do, keep your finger away from the right trigger. I'm not sure if performing fatalities that use the RT negate this achievement, but I know accidentally blocking can. It's easy even for the most novice player to beat the Ladder this way without blocking. If you are having trouble on Shao Kahn, my recommendation is to use Sektor, keep your distance, duck his spears when he throws them (which is easy because they are relatively slow), and spam the teleport uppercut/uppercut combo. Follow it up with a straight missile, or start it off with one if he taunts, which he will be doing a lot of. For the "Where's The Arcade?" achievement, blocking is allowed; simply complete the Ladder. Blocking is also allowed for the "Arcade Champion" achievement; simply complete the Ladder as every playable character including Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero.

Another helpful tip for "Arcade Champion" is to set the timer to 30 seconds in Options and do Tag Ladders. Wins will count for both fighters when using this method, but you will only see one character's ending. To win each match in the ladder with only a 30-second limit, simply have more health than the opponent(s) by the time the clock runs out.

Pretty easy to do. Go into Options at the main menu and set the game to Beginner difficulty, and 1 round to win. Then select Arcade from the main menu and select Tag Ladder. Make sure to select the standard robot versions of Sektor and Cyrax, and not their alternate human versions, as this achievement will not unlock. Should be very easy on beginner difficulty, but if you are having a problem, remember to use block a lot, and spam moves on the computer such as Cyrax's net and Sektor's teleport uppercut, followed by an easy combo. Switch characters often, and use the tag move system as it catches the computer off-guard and deals quite a bit of damage. It might even help to go into practice mode first in order to get a better feel for the new tag system.

This is one of the hardest achievements in the game to get. To do this, you will not only need to absolutely master one character, but you'll also need to either be, or become naturally good at the game. Spamming special moves might work on lower difficulties, but it won't get you far on the highest difficulty setting. Again, the block button should be your best friend when going for this, and learning to pull off long aerial juggles in practice mode would be a very good idea before attempting this. I would recommend an online strategy guide, or the Prima kollector's edition one for the best strategies, combos, and juggles to use for each character. I'm pretty sure you cannot exit back to the character select screen before losing the fight since it will have the same effect as using a continue, but if I am wrong about this, someone feel free to correct me.

In this game, severed heads act as cups, and underneath one of them is an eye. Before you start, you are shown which skull the eye is under. Then, the game mixes them up. The object is to keep your eye on the head that contains the eye as it moves, then still able to determine the correct skull after they have all been rearranged. It gets harder with each challenge, but is doable overall. Completing all the "Test Your Sight" challenges in the Challenge Tower should net you this achievement.

This new mode is very similar to Test Your Might, except is both a lower limit and an upper limit on the bar. In order to break the object in the center without breaking the surrounding pieces, you must hit them just the right force -- that force is the threshold space in between the lower and upper limits on the bar. Like the other "Test Your" modes, it gets harder with each challenge, but is still doable. Completing all the "Test Your Strike" challenges in the Challenge Tower should net you this achievement.

This is purely a luck-based achievement. When playing in any mode of Test Your Luck (be it during the Challenge Tower or in regular Test Your Luck mode), all of the reels spinning need to land on MK Dragons. Think of it like a lottery with all the numbers being "9". Keep retrying Challenge Number 24 in the Challenge Tower, or keep exiting then restarting Test Your Luck mode and eventually, this will unlock.

The button mashing mini-game from the very first Mortal Kombat game is back once again. This is a lot like the new "Test Your Strike" mode, except there is only one line you must get above in order to complete the challenge. These get harder as you progress just like the other "Test Your" modes, but is very doable. Completing all the "Test Your Might" challenges in the Challenge Tower should net you this achievement.

*Note: playing through the Challenge Tower unlocks more materials to use in Test Your Might and Test Your Strike, as well as new challenges in all the "Test Your" modes except for Test Your Luck. That list is coming soon. If anyone wants to submit any helpful tips for any of these modes, feel free to post them in the comments, and I will gladly add them into the guide and give you credit.

There are 300 challenges in the Challenge Tower, many of which are easy, but many of which are also extremely challenging. Complete 25 of these challenges to unlock this achievement. At this time, I'm unsure the game counts any you buy your way past towards this achievement. Here are the strategies for most of the tougher challenges taken directly from the Prima Kollector's Edition strategy guide:

Challenge 9:

"Don't use your ground pound until you have killed about eight Tarkatans. Save up your Ground Pound to finish off the ones at the end of the screen, and spam your Wave Punch against the larger Tarkatan making his way toward you. It takes multiple hits to finish him off, ans you need to make sure the screen is cleared to get good shots at him."

Challenge 11:

"A close Ground Pound followed by a jump kick into Air Grab will start the fury on Reptile, but you need to stay on him. A jump-in Combo Starter to a simple uppercut takes off a good amount of damage and allows you to keep pace with Reptile, who will turn invisible shortly afterward. Continue this pattern once you get a close Ground Pound and you should be fine."

Challenge 29:

"Scorpion takes damage only when in the light coming from the ceiling. Simply crouch down with Nightwolf and do an uppercut when Scorpion gets close. The worst that will happen is that he might hit you with an unblockable Hell Fire, but the trade-off is worth it, as Scorpion always seems to walk into uppercuts if you are simply ducking and not blocking."

Challenge 47:

"With only 60 second to defeat a very motivated and angry team of Sonya and Jax, your best bet is to use an Elbow Dash to knock either one of them down; then perform a Slow Force Ball (which neither of them will block) and an uppercut. You can continually perform variations of this pattern and should not have any problem defeating Jax and Sonya doing this. If you try and perform normal combos and aggressively pursue them, you will probably lose the match."

Challenge 57:

"Use your slide continuously with Sub-Zero to knock the Tarkatan leader to the edge obliteration and win the challenge!"

Challenge 62:

"As Cyrax, don't attack Kung Lao when he is down because he constantly uses his wake-up Spin. Use a couple of sweeps to get him down, then jump in at decent angles with a combo starter into an uppercut combo, or just use some chain combos up close. Because of the time limit, always remember to dash in after each chain combo to keep up the pressure."

Challenge 77:

"Defeating Reptile and Ermac is not a problem, but this is your first fight against Goro! Simply jump in with a combo starter and hold up/toward to keep following him and crossing him up with a combo starter into Attack 1, or just a combo starter. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to defeat Goro almost flawlessly!"

Challenge 86:

"Jade's best way to attack using only special moves involves utilizing her Staff Smash, then juggling with her Shadow Kicks."

Challenge 87:

"Defeating 10 Tarkatan Soldiers is easy if you use a combo starter into an uppercut as one strategy and Jade's double Shadow Kick juggle as another!"

Challenge 101:

"The Tarkatan soldiers that have arms will stay on the ground; the ones without arms will jump at you. This is the way to determine whether to use an air or a ground attack."

Challenge 129:

"Zombie Jax and Sonya seemingly block everything and uppercut at will. There are angles you can jump in with a combo starter and do an uppercut, and there are also points where you can do Cage's Shadow Kick and Jax and Sonya will block and adapt. However, your best bet is to just move toward your opponent and tap 1, 1, 1. Eventually they will stay in block-stun for a short while or get hit.

Regardless, you will have the match fairly easily."

Challenge 131:

"To defeat Zombie Goro, follow the same strategy as that for Challenge 77."

Challenge 161:

"To defeat Shao Kahn within 30 seconds, jump in with a combo starter and press 1, 1. Repeat this technique, or you can jump in with a combo starter and press Away + 3, 1, 2 to begin a juggle combo that will lead him into the corner for big damage."

Challenge 185:

"Don't immediately jump at Sheeva with Baraka; she will usually Air Grab you. Get into a position where you can perform a combo starter into Attack 1, Chop Chop. Goro is a little bit trickier, as you have to avoid his wild punches that will occasionally hit you, but with the strategies mentioned earlier on how to defeat Goro, you should not have much of a problem. Against Kintaro, you can always hold up/toward and jump in with a combo starter and press Attack 1; then follow this up with the same repeating pattern and you will be fine. It may take a game or two to get the hang of dealing with one Life Bar and only a little bit of health rejuvenation after each successfully defeated character, but you will!"

Challenge 203:

"Unlike the other boss characters, Kintaro's style is not to attack often; therefore, Jade's golden opportunity comes with constant cross-ups and aggressive chain combos in order the floor the beast."

Challenge 250:

"In order to avoid getting hit by Shao Kahn's upward shoulder thrust, jump at him right before he is getting up and rush him down with varied three-hit chain combos -- Attacks 1, 2, 1 or Attacks 2, 2, 1; both work well."

Challenge 269:

"Your toughest challenge to date will be fighting an army of Shao Kahns! Simply go to the screen's end and use Stryker's gun. Each successful set of shots will hit Shao Kahn and his attempted spear toss. When you see him throw the hammer, jump straight up and down over it, and repeat shooting the gun, jumping straight up over each hammer, and continuing to shoot when you land. When you defeat each Shao Kahn, watch where the new one appears onscreen, as you will need to jump away from him immediately in order to repeat your pattern."

Challenge 275:

"First an army of Shao Kahns, and now an army of Goros awaits? Jump in at various angles with a combo starter into uppercut. When Goro spins away to the screen's end, you can throw a projectile that will hit him. Afterward, get close to Goro once again and repeat your combo starter into uppercut pattern or a combo starter into a chain combo of your choice. Remember that crossing up Goro is the key to his ultimate demise."

Challenge 286:

"A few well-timed jump kicks and up-close Attack 1s will get you the 10 hits necessary to use your mind control with Quan Chi and defeat Goro!"

Challenge 287:

"In order to complete this challenge, walk toward your opponent (meaning press Away in this special mirrored control mode) and press Up + 2 after blocking Quan Chi's attacks."

Challenge 299:

"Goro can defeat you in one hit; therefore, you must use Sheeva's Jump Stomp almost exclusively to build up enough Super Meter for her X-Ray Attack. It is the only way to consistently get a perfect on Goro at this stage in the Challenge Tower."

Challenge 300:

"This challenge is nearly impossible to defeat on the first try; you will need to be perfect in order to stand a chance. Each time you lose, the difficulty level becomes progressively easier. Against Goro and Kintaro, make sure to use the same strategies from earlier challenges. Consider using a character with a quick-stunning 1, 1, 1-type combo, such as Liu Kang or Scorpion. While fighting Mileena, be patient against her and find the right angles to jump in with a combo starter if she allows it. If not, your best bet is to bait her into doing a Teleport Drop, then block and uppercut her. Shao Kahn can be defeated by throwing projectiles at him, blocking his spear, and jumping over his hammer. After all is said and done, you to unlock a very sexy outfit for a very demented character!"

To gain mastery of a fighter, you must meet the following requirements:

1.) 100 Victories

2.) 100 -alities

3.) 150 X-Rays

4.) 10,000 pints of blood spilled

5.) 24 hours overall play time

First of all, to check your stats on these, visit the Nekropolis. Now, anything you do in the game except for any of the Training and Practice modes counts towards this, no matter what. As long as you are in gameplay, time should be passing. This can be a very time consuming achievement, and for 10,000 pints of blood, you can simply go into Test Your Luck and set the timer to 30 seconds on beginner difficulty. This will net you 10,000 a lot quicker. A very helpful method to netting 24 hours of gameplay for each character is to do 2 on 2 matches in versus mode with a second controller, and leave your game on. In order to get the "My Kung Fu Is Stronger" achievement, you need to master every single playable fighter in the game, which will take a looong time, needless to say.

SECRET ACHIEVEMENTS

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-+uwyA=.jpgComplet-ality - Perform 1 of each type of "-ality" (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

Very easy. Simply select any character then do an Arcade Ladder. There are two regular fatalities (three for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Reptile), one stage fatality, and a babality. The first fatality is already in your moves list from the start of the game. The second is the one you can unlock from the Krypt, while the others are secret. Note that you do NOT have to unlock the second fatality in the Krypt in order to perform it. You must simply know it. For a full list of finishing moves, refer here:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=305848

All you need to do to unlock this achievement is perform both fatalities (no need to perform the preorder fatality if you are playing as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, or Reptile), the stage fatality, and the babality in different fights on Arcade Ladder.

Or you can simply do them with a second controller with any characters in versus mode. Performing a babality will also unlock the achievement "Finish Him?"

Currently, there is some confusion as to how to unlock this achievement. Some are saying you only have to perform every character's Babality. Others are saying you have to complete all Babalities, Stage Fatalities, and Second Fatalities. Your best bet is just to pull them all off just to be sure. You can do this in Arcade Ladders or in Versus Mode. For a complete list of finishing moves, see the link in the description for "Complet-ality".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-6o3ps=.jpgYou Found Me! - Discover and fight Hidden Kombatant 1 in Arcade Ladder (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

This is by far the hardest Hidden Kombatant achievement, and also one of the toughest in the game itself. Before doing an Arcade Ladder, go into Options from the Main Menu and set the difficulty to beginner, but this time, make sure it's set to the regular 2 rounds to win the fight. It's important that it's set to TWO wins when going for the Hidden Kombatant achievements since there are two that require double flawless victories (this achievement is one of them). As of right now, there is a lot of confusion as to what the requirements are to fight klassic Jade and unlock this achievement. Some are saying that you must not lose a single round in Arcade Ladder, and that you cannot exit back to the Character Select screen if Shang Tsung negates your flawless victory attempt by hitting you, while others are saying you can. Some are even saying you don't even have to perform a fatality on Shang Tsung to unlock this. I won't post what the definite requirements are until all the confusion has been cleared up and there is a universally accepted method to unlocking this.

For now, all I can say is to not lose a a single round in the Ladder, then get a double flawless victory on Shang Tsung and finish him off with a fatality -- this method will definitely get Jade to appear. However, according to Gillbob316 on the MKO boards, you CAN return to the Character Select screen if Shang Tsung negates your double flawless victory attempt only AFTER you defeat him and it says "FINISH HIM!" across the screen.

Tips for getting a double flawless victory on Shang Tsung:

- Spam teleport moves into uppercuts

- If they block one of your moves, immediately get away from them however possible before they hit a move as blocking one of their moves will still cause minor damage to you and will negate a flawless victory

- If you are good enough, use long juggle combos

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-9IJgg=.jpgHide and Seek - Discover and fight Hidden Kombatant 2 in Arcade Ladder (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

The easiest to obtain of all the Hidden Kombatant achievements. Before doing an Arcade Ladder, go into Options from the Main Menu and set the difficulty to beginner, but this time, make sure it's set to the regular 2 rounds to win the fight. It's important that it's set to TWO wins when going for the Hidden Kombatant achievements since there are two that require double flawless victories. During the Arcade Ladder, when you Arrive at the Living Forest stage (the one with the live trees in the background), look for klassic Smoke in the background peeking out from behind one of the trees as you fight, just like he did in Mortal Kombat 2. Once you see him peak his head, hold Down and press the back button on your controller. Your opponent will disappear and you will fight klassic Smoke with Scorpion's move set, just like it was in Mortal Kombat 2. If the Living Forest stage isn't appearing, use the Pit Master strategy (as seen in the description for the "Pit Master" achievement) and continue loading new Ladders until it appears as the first.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/951/5-mhrXI=.jpgPit Master - Discover and fight Hidden Kombatant 3 in Arcade Ladder (10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/g-icon.gif)

The easiest and most stress-free way to obtain this is mostly by luck. First, go into Options from the Main Menu and set the difficulty to beginner, but this time, make sure it's set to the regular 2 rounds to win the fight.

It's important that it's set to TWO wins when going for the Hidden Kombatant achievements since there are two that require double flawless victories (this achievement is one of them). Before you fight the first character in the Ladder, make sure the stage ends up being the Night version of the Pit stage (the stage with the big moon in the background). If it's not, exit, and start a new Arcade Ladder. Continuing starting new Arcade Ladders until the first fight is on the Night version of the Pit stage. The stages and fighters are all randomized, so there's no telling when it will pop up. Once you finally get to the Pit, start the fight. First of all, as you fight, you must keep an eye on the moon in the background. Shadows of either Santa Claus or a witch must fly across the moon during round 1 of the fight in order for this to work. You then must get flawless victories in both rounds, then perform the stage fatality where you uppercut the opponent off the Pit into the spikes below. If Santa or the witch do NOT appear, you must exit back to the Character Select screen and keep trying until they do. After you get the flawless victories and perform the stage fatality, you will then be taken to the Pit Bottom stage where you will fight klassic Reptile. He will have Scorpion and Sub-Zero's moves just like in Mortal Kombat 1 back in 1992. Again, you do not have to beat him for the achievement to unlock.

Tips for getting a double flawless victory:

- Spam teleport moves into uppercuts

- If they block one of your moves (which is very unlikely if it's the very first fighter on beginner difficulty; the fighter is practically a practice dummy), immediately get away from them however possible before they hit a move as blocking one of their moves will still cause minor damage to you and will negate a flawless victory

- If you are good enough, use long juggle combos

Easy to obtain. When you reach the Temple/Cathedral stage (the one with the church-like altar with the skinless guy on top of the table), make sure Noob Saibot is standing in the background on the side of the table. If he isn't, press start and select your fighter again. Keep doing this until Noob Saibot appears. Once he does, win the fight without blocking. When you do, your opponent will vanish, and you will start a fight with klassic Noob Saibot. The achievement will unlock. You do NOT have to beat him, just begin the fight with him. If the Temple/Cathedral does not appear, you can always use the Pit Master strategy and keep loading new Ladders until the Temple/Cathedral appears as the stage for the first fight.

Something very useful to know for the You Found Me! achievement:

Alright, Alright, Alright... I just fought (and beat) Jade (Finally) and I have developed what I hope to be a semi-idiot proof way of unlocking the Jade fight...

After trying all day to get the damn fight to unlock, here's what I did...

I saw on TRMK a link where someone reported the way to fight her was to perform a fatality on everyone before Shang Tsung... and to double flawless Shang and perform a fatality, while not losing a single fight/round. That knowledge in hand... I played a little bit of trickery on the game...

Basically, if you win a match, but then pause it and go back to the character select screen... it doesn't count as a loss. In other words: If you quit back to the character select screen before the words "finish him" it does count as a loss. If you do it after "Finish Him!" but before the fight truly ends, it's not counted against you, and you can repeat the fight...

That said... any fight before Shang where I f'ed up the fatality... I immediately paused it and quit back to the character select screen. Repicked. Refought. Did it again until I got the fatality off...

Then ON Shang... same basic thing. Any time he got a hit off on me, I'd continue the fight and win... but after the words "Finish Him" popped, I'd pause it, quit back to the character select, and start over...

This way, I was able to perform a fatality on everyone, as well as double flawless & fatality Shang... without having any lost rounds or fights counted against me. (Incase that matters, and I suspect it does.)

And happy day, using this method, I did eventually double flawless Shang, performed a fatality on him, and happy day... the Jade fight unlocked.

I'll note, just for any curious parties... if you unlock the Jade fight, after Shang the game will IMMEDIATELY go to a load screen for Goro's lair. It will NOT go back to the ladder and show it moving up to Goro/Kintaro. It goes straight to the load screen. (This is similar to the way the Reptile fight goes immediately to the Pit Bottom load screen)

Just for the sake of misc info... Kintaro was the sub boss on this particular ladder. I did NOT flawless every round before Shang Tsung (though did happen to flawless a few). I DID win every round. I performed a normal fatality on every character (No stage fatalities or bablities), and as stated, if at any point I screwed up, I reset the fight using the method described above. I switched characters several times (quitting back to character select allowed me to do so, apparently without penalty) Used mostly Cyrax and Scorpion, spamming their 4-hit x button combos on Shang to get the flawless. I was on Beginner difficulty for easy wins. And finally, here were my final stats after completing arcade mode...

Total time: 27:39

Difficulty: Beginner

Fastesst Match: 25 Seconds

Matches lost: 0

Rounds lost: 0

Flawless Victories: 23

Total Damage Recieved: 1603%

Longest Kombo: 6 hits

Total Koins Awarded: 32395

Fatalities Performed: 8

I'll note that when I GOT to Shang Tsung, only about 7 minutes had elapsed... the other 20 came from me restarting the fight in an effort to flawless him. Same goes for all those extra flawless victories and koins. Those came from fighting and refighting Shang several times. (I would occasionally flawless him the first round, but fail the second round.)

Also final note: Having now beaten all 4 secret bosses... I can confirm that it unlocked absolutely nothing. My xbox gamertag is also Gillbob316 if you'd care to look my achievements up and verify that I'm not lying. :p

Oh, furthermore, I beat them all on the first try. Noob was the hardest. I had to use that cheap block/uppercut method you may have seen in some of the videos to kill him. The other three I just fought the same as I would any other fighter without problems. They're just a bit faster and more aggressive.

Beat Jade and Noob with Cyrax. Smoke with Scorpion. Reptile with Sheeva.

And THAT... is every last bit of information I have on this damn subject... lol...

Happy Jade hunting folks. Hope this method works out for the rest of ya'll...

If you get harmed during the Shang Tsung fight, then you can finish the fight up until the words "FINISH HIM" appear on screen. You may then quit to player select screen and re-fight him without having to go through the entire ladder again. All credit goes to the two people I quoted above.

At the time of making this guide, I'm not sure if this is boostable with a party of 8 people. If it is, the achievement can be boosted that way. If not, then you will need to obtain this legit. It's the same as playing the game online, except you are playing in an 8-person tournament. For tips on fighting online, read the description for the "Outstanding!" achievement.

This could be boosted. I earned it in a private King of the Hill lobby with only 2 other friends. We weren't trying to boost it. I earned it legit, but it proves you can do it in a private match with other people if you want to boost. I'd recommend at least 3 or more people in case someone disconnects. After about 30 total fights, we disconnected from each other. The number of fights before a disconnect could vary either way. I think that trying to earn something like this might be less frustrating after the servers have "stabilized" a bit more.

Also, I've been through the tutorial twice and the Tag Combo achievement never unlocked. Are you sure it can unlock in the tutorial?

How do we play the mini games for achievements such as These Aren't My Glasses? As you dont explain how to do this in your guide.

All the "Test Your" mini games have to be unlocked in the challenge tower before they appear under the "Fight" screen. Once you complete the tower challenge with the new level of Test Your Might/Strike/Sight, it unlocks to play anytime you want under "Fight". You never actually have to play them again for the achievement after you finish them in the tower. When you do them in the tower, it counts towards the achievement.

By completing Challenge Tower you should play each test your ... games after 10-15 challanges. As you finish them they will get harder. And when you finish the Challenge Tower you should automaticly unlock all related mini game achievements.
