What's so wrong with swastikas in the emblem editor?

Which reminds me....what did they do with that MW2 map with the islam phrase in the bathroom

It was removed/edited and the map came back into rotation not too long after.

if swastika isnt allowed in the emblem editor, why is it allowed to be on the teleporters on der riese and on all of the zombies in kino der toten and nacht der untoten

Propaganda? It's the same as Microsoft putting an advert on my dashboard for Lynx, where the ad is borderline porn, having a C-list blonde (Sophie Monk) talk about cleaning a guys balls and grabbing a large bag of balls (bag of soccer balls that is), but if I had something similar in my profile, it'd be some type of sexual misconduct and I will get in trouble.

Double standards. Nothing more, nothing less.

My argument is based on historic interest and the relevance to the game. Now I know it's not based on WW2 but it's still a military shooter. The SS and the Nazi symbol have military and paramilitary influence and significance just as any other political symbol out there such as the Confederacy and the USSR.

They all represent major eras of violent strife that significantly shaped our history therefore we should be allowed to create emblems that bear some relevance to the idea of armed conflict.

I think one should have the right to create an emblem of Nazi Germany. The whole troll presumption is just blatantly false. Some of us have legitimate historic interests and just because we create a symbol doesn't mean we adopt its meaning as our own.

It would be as wholly irrational to assume that because someone has an avatar of a female that the person is female. Just as it is wholly irrational that all these symbols (USSR, Nazi Germany, Confederacy, etc) represent the true view point and adoption of their emblem creators.

My message and main thesis just boils down to this: If they don't ban all political flags, they shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose which ones are acceptable. That is by statistical and historical preponderance irrational.

And please don't make this into a First Amendment debate (there's always a few who will be tempted). I know very well that I don't have free speech rights because it's a private venue. It's not about a constitutional right to create per se, it's about equitable consideration and fairness.

I'm just revealing through open discussion the hypocrisy surrounding emblem creation.

It should be noted that the CEO of Activision is Jewish. There is also a theory about the Jewish locus of control in mass media which could explain why there are few games in which you are allowed to play the role of the Germans rather than assuming the role of the Allies. I am not saying I personally adopting this view. It's just something to consider.

I am personally disappointed though. I have had a scholastic interest in Nazi Germany since I was very young.

I'm sorry, you are a f*cking idiot. Who type of insensitive idiot asks that?

And I believe that is the same thing I responded with when this thread was on the Black Ops forum.

You're being irrational and guided by purely cultural and emotional bias. Genocide has occurred since Mankind organized into larger societies. What makes the one targeting the Jewish people so special as to warrant extra consideration above any other historic incidence?

Why are you not offended by flags of the USSR? 90 million killed under communist rule doesn't move you? What kind "insensitive idiot" wouldn't want both flags to be banned.

This thread is a disaster waiting to happen. You CAN'T talk politics on the forums because the 'discussions' ALWAYS turn into shit storms. The same goes for religious topics. Read the site FAQ. Hoborg has been around long enough that he should know this shit.

My argument is based on historic interest and the relevance to the game.

It doesn't matter. You are still making your argument by bringing up politics. It's not allowed and this thread WILL eventually get deleted.

The USSR was an empire, but they didn't gas millions of people based on their religion, sexual preference, or skin color. The red, black, and white swastika is the symbol for Nazis. An organization that was full of cold blooded murderers.

And interest in Nazi Germany is one thing. How Hitler came to power and all of that is an interesting subject. But the swastika is representing hate. Period. End of discussion. Sheer hate and the fact that you don't have a problem with it is just pathetic. I've had family fight in WW2. So I'm not some kid who is just trying to stand tall. I'll leave you with that. I'm not going to spend any more time talking to fools.

You are actually factually incorrect. The communists did kill based on factors such as race, and religion. In fact, religious devotees were persecuted under the Soviet union. Likewise, there were many purges based on race which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocides_in_history#Soviet_Union

You are also incorrect about the origin and Hitler's intentions with the swastika.

It's not exclusively a symbol of hate. Your arguments are so rife with red herrings it makes it really hard to take you seriously. Any discussion is just undermined by your appeals to emotion by your vivid language.

This is an interesting question.

One with an Infinitely less interesting and ultimately extremely annoying answer:

Extreme Liberals and Political Correctness.

We Live in a Society and Culture(Especially in America) where doing or saying anything that any random person might find offensive is shunned and outlawed. We live in a society where people TRY to get offended by something. They go around looking for things to be offended by.

You can't have a Different opinion about something in the world today, and especially you can't voice your opinion without being considered a bigot, racist, sexist, etc. . .

Political Correctness is the problem, however only part of it. Ignorant, uneducated people who know next to nothing about history are also a part of the problem. Not saying I condone or agree with what happened under the Swastika in World War 2 of course, but I agree that it shouldn't be banned.

On topic, this is exactly the answer to the original question. The Swastika stands out as the most popular recognizable offensive image and regardless of whatever positivity it originally represented, it's been replaced by ideas of hate. So regardless of what it meant when it represented good, for the right or wrong reasons it's been forever marred. Whether or not other symbols are as bannable in this game just boils down to pecking order of what the most offensive are in the eyes of those who wield the ban hammer over at Treyach. The thing is, they would never be foolish enough to make a top ten list and release it to us so they leave it loosely termed as "offensive" so they can do whatever they please.

But let's not shit ourselves, anybody and I mean every single person who has a Swastika emblem on their profile in this game is doing it to be offesive and disrespectful.

Correction. You can't have an opinion unless it aligns with what is politically correct and is "progressive thinking". And they say they're doing it for the sake of preserving this country, while their every move is to tear the Bill of Rights apart. It's as ridiculous as jihadists claiming they're doing what they're doing in the name and by command of their god.

Respect, that's the biggie.

I'm not Jewish, but not taking on such matters lightly is the least I can do for people that have somehow suffered from that event. An emblem in a video game that you purposefully make in resemblance of such a horrible memory isn't exactly respectful.

That's bullshit!

Not everything to do with the Swastika is about Hitler.

They frown the use of something similar, yet they do it themselves. They only want to stir trouble but refuse to listen to your side when you do it for the right.

When it's educational it's a different story, It's not as if you play through a campaign as Adolf Hitler, rounding up all the innocent people and murdering them.

It teaches you what shit was really like if anything. We all read about it, see it in films etc but playing through a campaign that indulges such topics raises the situation from a completely different perspective.

Yeah, I know Buddhist symbol of some sort. (I'm working on a Divinities minor amigo :p)

Clearly not what the OP is talking about.

Right, but the perspective here isn't what you're talking about. There isn't anything educational about a Black Ops II emblem. (Somebody prove me wrong?)

There doesn't have to be an educational purpose. Just make sure if you're upset about the nazi flags, report the other political flags as well. Even the American flag represents some form of atrocity such as the treatment of the Native Americans.

You either ban all political flags or you don't ban any at all. Drawing arbitrary lines for what is offensive without a proper analysis as to why is the heart of this controversy and why it's so hypocritical.

The American Flag is associated with a country, not something that Andrew Jackson made up in his spare time. Most people don't know that the Swastika was "borrowed" for it's use in the Nazi regime. It's not hypocritical, it's just what people assume; and sometimes it's better that way. Ignorance is bliss. Being "misinformed" is a service depending on the person.

For the sake of completion, I answered- but it seems pointless to keep talking about something that is truly not worth talking about.

EDIT:

Great example I just thought was somewhat relevant to the subject:

I'm part Cuban, I've lived in Isla del Joven too: Whenever I see a Che Guevara shirt at the university, I don't ask why they're wearing a Communist symbol. I know they don't know what it's like to live under such pressures, I know they don't probably know half the man that Ernesto was, most importantly... I know they probably won't even be able to answer a simple gesture to the question about Communism; and if I ask- what would be the answer I get? Would I be satisfied with some half-assed comment? (Maybe the "f*ck off?")

It's just not worth it.

Hoborg, when I read your posts I'm about to puke ...

I'm german and I'm jewish. In WW2 my family was murdered by the Nazis almost completely. The whole family consisted of 17 people, most of them lived in Frankfurt and 14 of them got murdered, 12 of them in concentration camps, 2 were beaten to death on the street. Only my grandfather managed it to grab my grandmother and my auntie and move to Kenia in 1940. My father was born in Nairobi in 1946 and soon afterwards those four people moved back to Frankfurt were my grandfather was mainly responsible for reinstalling the jewish community in Frankfurt. I was born in Frankfurt in 1974.

I'm highly offended by people who use Nazi symbols as their logo or their avatar. If you choose something as logo or avatar you are practically saying that you somehow like it/agree with it/think it's cool or whatever you want to call it. You dont choose something because you want to say that you disagree with it.

I play videogames in my free time after work and I don't want to play with individuals who are basically admiring people that killed almost my whole family ...

That's all I'm gonna say in this thread ...
