Hey, I was just playing this with some of my buddies and we were all debating on which class is "the best." Needless to say we came to the conclusion that they were all balanced very evenly and there was a true "best class".

Then I was wondering what was the community's favorite class to play as. You can go ahead and add your explanation in a post if you wish, or just simply vote.

Thanks! :)

I always go medic (unless there is a shortage of objective necessary classes). A couple of good medics (you know, ones that don't just buff their own health and shoot at the other team) can be the key to pushing back an entrenched opposing team.

i enjoy playing as the operative the most.

sneaking behind enemy lines by disguising, marking targets that are sneaking upto the objective so my whole team can see em, spotting mines and ofcourse leaving caltrops near the objective to chip away the health of whoever gets close so my teammates have an easier job finishing them off :D

not alot of people who actually play this class to help the team with, so i usually take most people by suprise :D

I normally play as a light medic, flying around the map wall hopping and throwing out revives left right and centre is good fun, especially with the lazarus grenade. Also self revive is massively useful. I think medic is the easiest XP class, especially with AI who just go down like flies.

However the most fun class I've found is the operative, tactical play allows a good operative to single handedly sabotage enemy entrenched positions and MG nest by getting behind enemy lines aand playing with all they have to offer, turret hack, sticky bomb, caltrop grenades etc...

Honestly I'm surprised by the results so far. I expected to see the Soldier or Medic as the most played. But somehow the Engineer is winning.

I'm liking all the feedback. Personally I voted Engineer, but I do love to play a Light Medic. I feel more helpful when playing as a Medic, but the Engineer is just good fun to lay down turrets and mines then watching the other team second-guess every corner or pathway.

I'm a devious little bastard sometimes :)

Plus the damage boost or Kevlar boost are invaluable as assets for the entire team to have.

Operative, its just so fun sneaking around the map acting like im on the other team. What i liks to do the most as operative is kill someone and take a disguise then run past the enemy team and hack their turrets and command posts.

And get some quick kills with the sticky bomb :p

Engineer, simply because I can boost my/teammates damage, set up defensive turrets, plant mines, and be more combat capable because of repair and damage upgrades. It's actually the most effective all-around class, but I wouldn't mind playing as the soldier next, then medic, and operative last.

I'm going to have to agree with you. The engineer is the most combat proficient class in the game, especially in combination with a friend playing as a Soldier, you can do some serious killing. But that can only last so long, which is where you need a Medic buddy. LOL, the balancing is crazy!! But the Operative seems to fit a non-essential role; really, it's just more of a support class/role.

The engineer has the most objectives in the entire game. I prefer to use it. It's a basic "defense" class and using it for "offense" definately doesn't help you much until higher levels.

Order of how many objectives exist for each class, from least to most.

Medic.

Soldier.

Operative.

Engineer.

Engineers simply do EVERYTHING in the game. Repair, remove hackboxes/bombs, build routes, etcetera. Soldiers have THREE missions where they have to destroy something (I'm not counting obstacles that only exist if in an Engineer placed them, they don't count as an objective, as they don't exist if you kill the people building them while they're being built). Operatives have a FEW more objectives than Soldiers. I think they get like 5 or maybe 6 missions where hacking is essential or even able to open up side passages. And those objectives are few and far between. Medics only have an objective when you have to escort a hostage, and that's only twice in the entire game.

See, Engineers aren't that "balanced". They have abilities that on CERTAIN MAPS make their "power" meter pretty much infinite. Being only level 7, there were places where I had 6 pips of "power" that I could use, and never used them all. And some of the abilities you unlock later can make that meter go all the way around the circle and then some. And when you can easily buff your WHOLE TEAM with just six pips... They are extremely overpowered (especially when paired with a soldier or two who already have their top abilities). And when you can buff Kevlar too... Engineers are amazing.

They should've made the Operative more of an "annoyer" class. Right now, it does almost nothing. They should've made him able to remove buffs with a specific grenade. The Operative was CLEARLY your "annoyer" class, but it doesn't fill that role at all. All it's abilities are nigh on useless. I mean... I guess you could hack a turret... But you can render those useless with two grenades anyway (yes even the Gatling ones, one Soldier throws two grenades and it goes down, Molitov and Frag). So hack is useful for surprising your enemy, but not much else.

Medic starts out pretty useless, but gets pretty buff by late-game.

In any case, the Engineer is valuable in every single mission and the mortar that holds your team together.

I totally agree. The Operative seems like it should have been an annoyer class like you said. But even still the Engineer is the best overall and Medic is extremely beneficial to the whole team, but early on their abilities aren't all that great. Later on they get pretty amazing at what they do.

Off Topic: Love the Doctor Who avatar :)

See, the Operative has these INTERESTING abilities, but none are useful. He can disguise himself, that's awesome. Oh wait, it's useless because the minute you do anything except spot a mine with it, your cover is blown. That makes it nigh on useless in this game, since the game is a CONSTANT firefight. You can hack comms of downed enemies and get radar locations on their entire team... I never use the radar, so this is useless. The game is filled with choke points and it's pretty obvious where enemies will be coming from. Plus, the radar is so vague as to be virtually useless. Hacking is mildly useful as it CAN open up like two or three shortcuts in the entire game...

Operatives should be more useful than they are. The ONLY useful ability I've ever had for them was the Cortex Bomb. And really, it's funny to use against human players, especially when they're determined to stomp you after you've been downed. It's also useful for making yourself a landmine around blind corners.

But honestly, it's all they have that's of any real value or use. I even miss being able to use it when I switch classes around.

And to respond Off-Topic here for a second:

Yeah, I love Doctor Who. I've loved all the Doctors I've seen and have no preference for any of 'em. Though, I should update the picture to the new Doctor sometime soon... Ah, if only I could stop being lazy.

I love playing light medic but a heavy engineer is also really fun, and I also like operative, I think game is very balanced and so much fun, but I hate playing as soldier...

I loved playing a Light Medic! It was my first character and despite not having any of the main objectives to do, I felt the class was still fun and useful to the whole team.

I just started an Engineer, but I was playing to play him as a Medium character. I doubt I'll ever need the Heavy body type for anything.

Exactly. The Operative seems to this mish-mash of cool ideas that didn't really fit into any of the other class abilities. I would love to see the Cortex Bomb as Universal ability though... on second thought, no! That would insane! Every would 'sploding all over the place!

Off-Topic again: I never like any of the Doctors at first, but then by the time they get rid of one, I love the character and their unique spunk they add to the overall idea of the Doctor. I just caught up by watching last season on Netflix and I haven't been able to catch any of the new episodes this Series. i imagine they have them online somewhere, I just need a free afternoon/evening to watch them all :/

Final exams are killing me at the moment though.
