Microsoft Jigsaw achievement guide and roadmap

Overview: Microsoft Jigsaw is a FREE game for Windows 8. It's anything you'd expect out of a real jigsaw puzzle, being able to put pieces together and ultimately making what ever the picture you chose should be. But, in this game, you can even use your own downloaded photos as a puzzle too!

Estimated achievement difficulty:3/10

Offline: 15/20 (160:gsicon:)

Online: 5/20 (40:gsicon: (I think all Daily Challenge achievements must be done online, if anyone can please confirm, it would be greatly appreciated)

Approximate amount of time to 200:gsicon:: At least 12 months

Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 100+

Missable achievements: 0 (Puzzle select)

Does difficulty affect achievements?: Yes

Unobtainable/glitched achievements: Yes (Easy on the Eye, Jiggity Jig, Tough Cookie, and Great Expert have all been reported to not pop after completing puzzles. This includes almost all classic achievements as well)

Extra equipment needed?: None

Introduction:

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

Part 1: Classic Jigsaw. Doing these puzzles you should be able to unlock a good deal of achievements. By completing 10 puzzles on Easy, you'll get the "Easy on the Eye" achievement, 15 on Medium for "Jiggity Jig", 20 on Hard for "Tough Cookie", and 25 on Expert for "Grand Expert". While doing these, you'll more than likely unlock "First Unlock" for unlocking your first puzzle in Classic Jigsaw mode. While doing this, I'd recommend doing the Food Collection puzzles to get "Hungry for Puzzles".

Part 2: Jigsaw Jam Here, Jigsaw Jam is a timed game mode where you must complete a set amount of puzzles quickly and accurately. A great majority of your points comes from chains (the max chain being 10 before it resets back to 1). You'll get "Into a Jam" for completing the first pack, which contains 6 different "stages" of increasingly difficult puzzles. Also, "Speed Demon", "Chain Reactor", "Jam King", and "Jigsaw Jammer" can all be obtained here.

Part 3: Daily Challenges This is, by far, one of the most annoying and time consuming achievements ever. This mode is simply where you have a choice between 3 puzzles, all of them a mix between game modes "Lock Breaker", "Bug Catcher", and "Jigsaw Jam". This mode, you can get "Go for the Bronze/Silver/Gold". See "Go for the Bronze" for more details

Multiplayer:

N/A

Mop-Up: If you haven't already, go back and do 10 puzzles, once for each difficulty star (Easy, medium, hard, and expert) in Classic Jigsaw for the "Investigator" achievement. Everything else could be done, or at least really close. You should really only have "Going for the...." achievements left to do, which is more time consuming than difficult once you get a hang of the challenges.

Conclusion: This game is fairly easy, especially for a free game. The only things that may give you trouble is "Chain Reactor" and "Away from the Edge". The Classic Jigsaw achievements are a lot easier than the other two modes, as you don't have a time limit and can go at your own pace. You can even stop doing a puzzle, come back later, and finish it from where you left off!

Achievement Guide:

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/1.jpg Into a Jam 5:gsicon:

Complete the first pack of Jigsaw Jam.

The first pack of Jigsaw Jam is already unlocked for you when you start the game. This should be easy and the amount of stars you get should not matter.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/2.jpg Speed Demon 10:gsicon:

Complete a Jigsaw Jam pack with 3 minutes or more to spare on the clock.

Most easily done on pack 1-1. It's more reliable to go for speed than accuracy on this one. Nothing too hard if you're persistent about it. After about once or twice, you should know what the puzzles look like when it's done, so that should help you run through it quicker.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/3.jpg First Unlock 5:gsicon:

Unlock a puzzle in Classic Jigsaw.

To unlock a puzzle, it has to be a part of a collection, not a custom puzzle. It should unlock by completing the previous puzzle on any difficulty. You'll more than likely unlock this while going for "Hungry for Puzzles"

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/4.jpg Easy on the Eye 5:gsicon:

Complete 10 Easy puzzles in Classic Jigsaw.

This will be a cakewalk. All you need to do is complete 10 puzzles on Easy, which shouldn't be hard for even beginners, most easy puzzles are about 24 pieces, if not a little more. Will definitely unlock when going for "Investigator" Note: This will only unlock when the counter on the main menu says you have completed 10 puzzles, not when you instantly complete them. Sometimes this game only counts a puzzle as played instead of completed, so you need to keep playing until it counts 10 completed.(Credit goes to Kairi)

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/5.jpg Came to Play 5:gsicon:

Play your first Daily Challenge.

This must be done in Daily Challenge Mode.

Here, you can do either three challenges that appear, or even challenges on days that have already passed. Just completing one, regardless of difficulty, will give you this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/6.jpg Share 10:gsicon:

Create a custom puzzle and export it.

To create a custom puzzle, you must first choose Classic Jigsaw mode, scroll over to "My Custom Puzzles". From there, you can take a picture using your camera on your computer (if you have a webcam) or create a puzzle from photos, meaning any picture you've downloaded or taken can be used as a puzzle also! After choosing your picture, click "My Custom Puzzles", what ever puzzle you'd like, and complete it. After finishing, when it shows your stats, the last option to the right should say "Share". Just clicking it usually works and the achievement should pop without you actually having to share it.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/7.jpg Jiggity Jig 10:gsicon:

Complete 15 Medium puzzles in Classic Jigsaw.

Self-explanatory, medium puzzles are the next step to working your way up to Expert, but you should get this one after trying out difficulties and finishing "Investigator"

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/8.jpg Tough Cookie 10:gsicon:

Complete 20 Hard puzzles in Classic Jigsaw.

Same as the rest of the Classic Jigsaw achievements. While working your way up to Expert, you'll come across hard puzzles. Not too difficult, probably the right amount of challenge for most players. You'll be halfway done when you finish "Investigator"

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/9.jpg Investigator 10:gsicon:

Earn all four difficulty stars on any 10 Classic Jigsaw puzzles.

This has to be done on 10 separate puzzles, and can't be custom ones. In order to get stars, you have to complete the puzzle four times, once on each difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert). The game keeps track of what difficulties you've already completed on when you go to select the puzzle.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/10.jpg Hungry for Puzzles 10:gsicon:

Unlock all of the puzzles in the Food Collection.

First, the Food Collection isn't unlocked when you start the game, you'll have to unlock it using gold bars from completing previous puzzles. But some players have had it unlocked when they first started the game. Afterwards, you can breeze through unlocking all the puzzles, seeing as there's no difficulty requirement. This can be done quickly if you play each puzzle on Easy.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/11.jpg Puzzle Expert 10:gsicon:

Complete a puzzle in Classic Jigsaw at Expert difficulty in less than 60 minutes.

As the achievement says, this has to be done in Classic Jigsaw on Expert difficulty. The puzzle you choose doesn't matter. I'd recommend choosing a custom or a very simple puzzle to do this with, usually ranging from 124 pieces to 264, I'd do with whatever you'd think you can handle.

Note: You can click the settings option on the right side of the screen, and turn your timer on, this will keep track of how much time you've used up, but it won't start counting until you've moved your first piece.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/12.jpg Chain Reactor 10:gsicon:

Complete Jigsaw Jam Pack 2-6 without breaking an Accuracy Chain.

This must be done in Jigsaw Jam Mode! Pack 2-6 is in Collection 2 of Jigsaw Jam, which you unlock by using 1700 gold bars. In order to unlock 2-6, complete packs 2-1 all the way to 2-5.

The achievement here requires you to never lose your chain bonus, meaning one wrong piece can make you start the entire pack over again.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/13.jpg Jam King 15:gsicon:

Get 3 stars in every pack of the first two Jigsaw Jam collections.

This has to be done on Collections 1&2. Getting 3 stars might get a bit annoying, especially when there are more puzzles and your time bonus starts to dwindle. But, to help get around this, watch the ad it suggests to add 30 seconds to the clock (most of the time it doesn't even play the ad). Doing that has helped and boosts your points a great amount when it ends.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/14.jpg High Scorer 10:gsicon:

Achieve a score of more than 50,000 in a single Jam Pack.

The main way of getting high scores like this is to keep up the chain! I'd recommend attempting this in packs 2-5 or 2-6, you have a better chance of unlocking it while going for "Chain Reactor"

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/15.jpg Go for the Bronze 10:gsicon:

Win 12 bronze Daily Challenge badges.

This is the most time consuming achievement in this entire game. In order to get a badge, it has to be done in the Daily Challenge game mode. By completing puzzles, depending on the difficulty, you'll get a set amount of coins. The amount of coins per badge is as follows:

  • Bronze: 2,000 coins
  • Silver: 6,000 coins
  • Gold: 12,000 coins

Sadly you only get ONE BADGE PER MONTH

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/16.jpg Go for the Silver 10:gsicon:

Win 10 silver Daily Challenge badges.

See "Go for the Bronze"

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/17.jpg Away from the Edge 15:gsicon:

Complete an Expert Classic Jigsaw puzzle by finishing the interior before attaching any edge pieces.

This is really annoying, but is possible. The easiest way is to put all the edge pieces in trays so you won't attach them on accident. After all interior pieces are connected, empty the trays, and it should pop as soon as you finish.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/18.jpg Great Expert 15:gsicon:

Complete 25 Expert puzzles in Classic Jigsaw.

Self-explanatory. You should have only about 15 left from doing the "Investigator" achievement. Expert puzzles aren't hard, especially since you don't have a time limit. The only tips I can really give you is to always do the edge pieces first and then connect the rest, it will make it much, much easier.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/19.jpg Jigsaw Jammer 10:gsicon:

Complete two Collections in Jigsaw Jam.

You can complete any two collections (Collection 1, 2, or 3) to get this. Any star count will suffice for this achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2956/20.jpg Go for the Gold 15:gsicon:

Win 8 gold Daily Challenge badges.

See "Go for the Bronze"

  • 4 weeks later...

A couple things that I noticed that should be corrected

For Easy on the Eye, most puzzles on easy are 24 pieces, not 12. Also, for the same achievement, the achievement will unlock when the counter on the main menu says you completed 10 puzzles, not necessarily when you actually complete 10 puzzles. Sometimes this game only counts a puzzle as played instead of completed, so you need to keep playing until it counts 10 completed. The other Classic achievements are likely the same way. For example, the Easy achievement unlocked for me when it says "14 played, 10 completed" even though I actually completed 14 puzzles.

For Hungry for Puzzles, the Food Collection was unlocked for me when I started the game, I just had to download it, which didn't cost me any gold bars at all.
