Introduction

Hungry Shark Evolution is the latest iteration in the popular eat em' up series in which you play as various species of shark. You must consume the schools of fish, human swimmers, birds, and other sharks around the ocean to survive. Eat more to score points and level your shark up to increase in size. Your health bar is always depleting and is refilled with food. The game is freemium, so there is the two obligatory types of in-game currency — gold coins and gems. The gold coins can be earned at a relatively moderate pace in-game by eating gold fish, finding secret treasure, and completing missions. The gems can be earned in-game at an extremely slow rate, but are basically there for you to purchase with real money. The game can be difficult at times, an aspect that begs you to spend some real money to make it easier. Currently the game is listed as FREE in the Windows Store.

Step 1: Complete all 9 missions for the Reef Shark

When the game starts, you will be playing as the reef shark. Explore the surrounding ocean to collect 8 seashells to unlock all 8 missions for the reef shark. Then, take as many runs as you need to complete the missions. When you complete the last one, the 9th mission, also called the Super Mission, will unlock. Super Missions are always score-related. Completing this mission will pop the "Reef Shark" achievement. After completing this challenge, grind the reef shark to Level 10 with a 100% filled bar (pseudo Level 11) to attain maximum size. This is required to "unlock" the next shark, the mako, for purchase with coins. If you need to grind coins to afford the mako shark, do so and then purchase it.

Step 1: Repeat Step 1 for Mako, Hammerhead, Tiger, Great White and Megalodon Sharks

The process from Step 1 needs to be repeated for the remaining 5 shark types: the Mako, Hammerhead, Tiger, Great White, and Megalodon. The first few sharks are relatively easy to finish, but the latter ones will test your skills to the max. See the Guide for the best methods to succeed and be sure to follow the "Time Glitch" outlined at the end of the Roadmap for a method to quickly amass coins and gems. The Great White and Megalodon are particularly expensive to purchase. Significant coin grinding will be needed for those especially.

Conclusion

Hungry Shark Evolution is a satisfying game to play. Ravaging the entire oceanic food chain has never felt so good. The achievements are very straightforward, but they do become quite challenging for the latter shark species. Spending some cash or grinding a bit (following the Time Glitch detailed below) will make the game significantly easier.

GENERAL TIPS:

  • After purchasing the Mako shark, it is probably best to shell out the 2,000 coins for the map. It will be invaluable to navigating around the ocean terrain.
  • The game doesn't save any progress from a run until the post game screen. You can use this to your advantage. Say you have 1 gem saved. You are working towards a mission and you die. Use a gem to revive yourself. You die again. While the death animation is playing (your shark is rag-dolling downwards), quickly swipe in from the left to bring up the multitask screen, then close the game. When you load back in, you will still have your gem and the last run will not have happened.
  • Try not to spend any coins upgrading your sharks unless you are absolutely stuck and cant complete a mission. Most times, with a small amount of perseverance, you can complete any mission with an un-upgraded shark. This is important to save coins.

  • Save all your coins to purchase the next available shark. This will reduce the amount of time you will need to grind coins.

  • SCORING BIG: In order to score big, you need to focus on the multiplier. Eat fish in succession to increase you multiplier. Go long enough between eating fish, and your multiplier disappears. The key is to go quickly, but not too quick. Eat large groups of fish slowly, while scanning the area for the next fish you are going to eat. Once you eat the last close fish, boost to find more quickly. Multipliers go from x2,x4,x6, to x8. Each creature you eat has a base score that is multiplied by the current multiplier when you eat it. Keeping your multiplier high is key.

  • SCORING VERY BIG: Now, to rack up the very high scores for the Super Missions, you will need to take multipliers to the next level by combining them with the Gold Rushes. Gold Rushes occur when you score enough points to fill the Gold Rush meter (yellow bar on screen). During a Gold Rush, all fish will be gold (meaning they payout coins when you eat them) and fish spawn much more numerous than normal play. Additionally, you get a special Gold Rush multiplier. This multiplier compounds your normal multiplier and is fixed based on your shark type (i.e. Reef gets x2, Mako x3, Hammerhead x4, Tiger x5, Great White x6, Megalodon x7). So for example, if you enter Gold Rush with a x8 normal multiplier with a Megalodon, your multiplier will instantly become x56 (8x7). You can see how this can lead to massive scores quickly. You can increase your base multiplier during Gold Rush, but it is better to have a large one active when it starts. Focus on staying alive, avoiding mines/jellyfish, keeping a constant multiplier, and timing your Gold Rushes.
  • Purchasing accessories is not recommended. Their price is just too high relative to their return in most cases. The exception may be for those that increase the length of Gold Rush (Gold Rush +5s).
  • TIME GLITCH - Fastest Method to Grind Coins and Gems: You can exploit the time settings on your device to obtain unlimited coins and gems. To do so, you must first load up the game normally with the correct time and date. Once you are at the Main Menu of the game and you see you are signed into Xbox Live in the top right corner. This step is important, otherwise you wont be able to sign in. Push the Start button to return to the Start Screen. Go into time and date settings. Advance the date one day forward. Swipe in from the left of your screen. From the multitask screen, return to the game. Load up a game with the Reef Shark (because this shark spawns closest the Reward chest) and pick up your Daily Reward from the chest. As soon as you collect the reward, pause and quit the game. Once the Main Menu loads, return via the multitask bar to the Settings screen. Advance the date forward one day again. Repeat the whole process. You will get 200 coins on Day 1, 300 on Day 2, 400 on Day 3, 500 on Day 4, and 5 Gems on Day 5. When you get to Day 6, the rewards will reset to Day 1. Because of the load screens and sluggishness of the game, the process is a tad tedious and annoying, but it is still faster than playing the game. It also takes much less effort and concentration. You will roughly be able to earn 11,000 coins and 40 gems per hour. NOTE: You will only be able to collect the reward for each date once. Always choose different dates when advancing.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3172/1.jpg Reef Shark - 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete Super Mission 1 using Reef shark.

The Reef Shark is available from the start of the game. When you begin, you will need to explore the surrounding ocean with the Reef Shark to look for eight orange seashells (there are more than eight to find, so there is some leeway) to unlock each of the eight missions for the Reef Shark. The eight missions and some helpful tips are below. Each of the requirements must be met in a single run with the Reef Shark (revives are OK).

  1. Tropical Terror - Eat 50 Tropical Fish: Tropical fish are generally brightly colored. They are found everywhere.
  2. Swimming Lesson - Swim 500m: Just swim 500m. Use boost to go faster.
  3. Man Eater - Eat 3 people: People are mostly found on the surface and near beaches, but deep sea divers will also count. Just be wary of their knives.
  4. Pelican Pinch - Eat 5 Pelicans: Pelicans are the white birds at the water's surface. Eat 5 total. Scoop up the ones floating, or boost upwards out of the water to jump for the flying ones, if necessary.
  5. Mini Jump - Jumps 3m out of the Water: Go down under water a big and aim upwards. Use boost towards the surface to breach and jump out of the water.
  6. Turtle Neck - Eat 4 Turtles: Turtles will be hard to find during this mission. They are generally just a tad below the surface. Near the first sea bottoms.
  7. Survival Chief - Survive for 4 Minutes: Stay alive for 4 minutes. Go slow and eat as much as possible. Staying near the surface is a good idea too. There is less things to kill you there and ample humans and fish for food.
  8. Innocent Bystander - Eat 3 Beach Bystanders: Eat 3 people that are standing on the beach. Check all the beaches. You are looking for the people that are out of the water. Boost up towards the beach and exit the water to grab the bystanders.

Once you complete all 8 missions, the ninth mission, Super Mission 1, will become available. It requires that you earn 25,000 points in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

After you earn the achievement, you need to continue playing with the Reef Shark until it reaches Level 10 with 100% of its bar filled (effectively Level 11). This is important because this will allow you to purchase the next shark for gold coins, rather than gems. Continue playing to earn enough coins to purchase the Mako Shark for 1,500 coins. You should have plenty of coins.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3172/2.jpg Mako Shark - 20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete Super Mission 2 using Mako shark.

The Mako Shark is available for 1,500 coins once you max out the Reef Shark. When you begin, you will need to explore the surrounding ocean with the Mako Shark to look for eight orange seashells (there are more than eight to find, so there is some leeway) to unlock each of the eight missions for the Mako Shark. The eight missions and some helpful tips are below. Each of the requirements must be met in a single run with the Mako Shark (revives are OK).

  1. Caught a Bite - Eat 3 Fisherman: Fisherman are only located on the medium-sized fishing boats. There will be 3 fisherman per boat, so you only need to find one. Patrol the surface until you find it.
  2. Diet Swim - Swim 200m Without Eating: This is not difficult. Just go slow and avoid everything, but not too slow that you die.
  3. In Flight Meal - Eat 3 Flying Pelicans: Pelicans are the white birds at the surface. You need to eat 3 of them that are flying. Do so by boosting upwards towards the surface and breaching to grab the pelicans that are flying.
  4. Cannibal - Eat 3 Enemy Sharks:Sharks can be found almost anywhere. There are usually a few at your dropoff point. Approach them from behind and boost towards them to kill them. Going in from the front will get you bit.
  5. Survival Ace - Survive for 6 minutes: Just go slow and eat everything in sight.
  6. Fast Food - Eat 3 sailfish: Sailfish are very fast fish that have pointy horns on their face (like swordfish). You must approach them from behind to eat them. You will need to use your boost to catch up with them. They are fast. They can be found at medium depth in large, open expanses of water.
  7. Minesweeper - Clear 5 Mines: The only way to clear mines is to swim directly into them and take damage. There are plenty of mines around, just be sure to kamikaze them when you are near full-health and take some time to recover between blows.
  8. 1 Sunken Object - Find 1 Sunken Object: There are 15 Sunken Objects hidden throughout the entire ocean that are always in the same spot. Find one. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for a map of their locations.

Once you complete all 8 missions, the ninth mission, Super Mission 2, will become available. It requires that you earn 50,000 points in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

After you earn the achievement, you need to continue playing with the Mako Shark until it reaches Level 10 with 100% of its bar filled (effectively Level 11). This is important because this will allow you to purchase the next shark for gold coins, rather than gems. Continue playing to earn enough coins to purchase the Hammerhead Shark for 6,000 coins. This should take less than 1 hour.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3172/3.jpg Hammerhead Shark - 30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete Super Mission 3 using Hammerhead shark.

The Hammerhead Shark is available for 6,000 coins once you max out the Mako Shark. When you begin, you will need to explore the surrounding ocean with the Hammerhead Shark to look for eight orange seashells (there are more than eight to find, so there is some leeway) to unlock each of the eight missions for the Hammerhead Shark. The eight missions and some helpful tips are below. Each of the requirements must be met in a single run with the Mako Shark (revives are OK).

  1. Crab Clearance - Eat 40 Crabs: Crabs are mostly found in the top half of the ocean on either rock bottoms or ceilings. They don't offer a large nutritional value, so be sure to eat lots of fish while searching for the crabs.
  2. Speed Eat Sardines - Eat 30 Sardines Within a Minute: This is the most challenging one for this shark. Sardines becomes rare and hard to find. They swim in schools of 5 to 15 sardines. You will need to find several schools and eat them all within one minute. Sardines can be found just about anywhere in the ocean.
  3. Stingray Revenge - Eat 5 Sting Rays: Sting Rays are generally found a tad below the surface. They are large flat creatures. Approach them with a boost from behind to eat them.
  4. Jellyfish Swim - Swim 1000m Without Getting Stung: Just take it slow and be sure to avoid jellyfish, which can come in many shapes and sizes. Avoid using boost if possible. Not that difficult if you take it slow.
  5. Fish Feast - Eat 200 Fish: Will come with time. Just go slow and stay near the surface where there are large schools of fish.
  6. 3 Sunken Objects - Find 3 Sunken Objects: There are 15 Sunken Objects hidden throughout the entire ocean that are always in the same spot. Find three in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for a map of their locations.
  7. Survival Pro - Survive for 8 Minutes: Just go slow and eat everything in sight.
  8. Cannibal Run - Eat 20 Enemy Sharks: All sharks are enemy sharks. Swim around to find 20 of them. Sharks can be found almost anywhere in the ocean.

Once you complete all 8 missions, the ninth mission, Super Mission 3, will become available. It requires that you earn 100,000 points in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

After you earn the achievement, you need to continue playing with the Hammerhead Shark until it reaches Level 10 with 100% of its bar filled (effectively Level 11). This is important because this will allow you to purchase the next shark for gold coins, rather than gems. Continue playing to earn enough coins to purchase the Tiger Shark. This should take less than 1 hour.

Complete Super Mission 4 using Tiger Shark.

The Tiger Shark is available for 15,000 coins once you max out the Hammerhead Shark. When you begin, you will need to explore the surrounding ocean with the Tiger Shark to look for eight orange seashells (there are more than eight to find, so there is some leeway) to unlock each of the eight missions for the Tiger Shark. The eight missions and some helpful tips are below. Each of the requirements must be met in a single run with the Tiger Shark (revives are OK).

  1. Angler Attack - Eat 10 Angler Fish: Angler fish can be found in a few places around the map, usually in the deep ocean. The best place to knock this mission is pictures below. There will be 15+ angler fish in that small caved area.
    14898338913_d09173a901_o.png
  2. High Jump - Jump 8m Out of the Water: Gain some speed going upwards with boost to the surface and breach. 8m is not hard at all to do.
  3. Jet Lag - Eat 3 Jetskiers: Jet skiing humans can only be found at the surface. You need to eat them from the side. If you come below, you will hit the jet ski and send the human flying. After exploring the surface tons for this mission, there was only 3 total jet skiers to eat. One was in the furthest right open area, and two were closer to the middle of the map in the big open area.
  4. Kempy Kill - Find and Eat the Mythical Kempy Bass: The Kempy Bass is a large fish boss that is easy to kill. The exact location is seen below. It is said that you should wait until at least the 3 minute mark before entering the long, windy cave. Otherwise, the Kempy Bass doesnt spawn. Eat fish while you navigate the long tunnel towards Kempy. More than likely you will die after killing Kempy, as there wont be enough fish to make it back through the long tunnel.
    14878130412_7407f6df1d_o.png
  5. Mass Murder - Eat 30 People: Stick towards the surface. People are everyone and constantly spawn. All humans count: including swimmers, divers, jetskiers, fisherman, beach bystanders, and the paragliders.
  6. Survival Pro - Survive for 10 Minutes: Just go slow and eat everything in sight.
  7. 5 Sunken Objects - Find 5 Sunken Objects: There are 15 Sunken Objects hidden throughout the entire ocean that are always in the same spot. Find five in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for a map of their locations.
  8. Depth Charge - Swim 250m Below Sea Level: Keep swimming down and eating fish along the way until the mission completes. 250m is about 3/4 the way to the bottom of the ocean. Easy as that.

Once you complete all 8 missions, the ninth mission, Super Mission 4, will become available. It requires that you earn 200,000 points in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

After you earn the achievement, you need to continue playing with the Tiger Shark until it reaches Level 10 with 100% of its bar filled (effectively Level 11). This is important because this will allow you to purchase the next shark for gold coins, rather than gems. Continue playing to earn enough coins to purchase the Great White Shark. This could take up to 4 hours, depending on your skill. You may also choose to use the Time Glitch (see "General Tips" section of the Roadmap.

  3. Subzero - Destroy 3 Submarines: Submarines are the missle-launching ships that hang out at depth in the ocean. To eat one, you must boost directly into the front, before it begins firing missiles. Approach it from behind, get into position, and get ready to boost as soon as it turns your way.
  4. Big Gulp - Eat 10 Gulpers: These fish can be found in the very bottom right corner of the map. Just swim directly down to the bottom of the ocean from the spawn point.
  5. Speed Eat - Eat 100 things in 1 Minute: Boost around as fast as you can and eat. Stay near the surface for the best chances of success. Upgrade your boost if needed. Taking an antidote before you start can help mitigate jellyfish stings.
  6. Survival Master - Survive for 15 Minutes: Just go slow and eat everything in sight
  7. Mine Sweeper Pro - Clear 15 Mines: The only way to clear mines is to swim directly into them and take damage (unless you buy the flak jacket, in which case you are immune). See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

After you earn the achievement, you need to continue playing with the Great White Shark until you earn enough coins to fully max the Great White's Bite, Speed, and Boost bars. Do so will unlock the Megalodon, the legendary shark that is required for the game's final achievement. In total, this will require 50,000 coins. This will be the longest grind of the game and will require 10 to 15 hours of solid playtime with the Great White of using the Time Glitch detailed in the "General Tips" section of the Roadmap.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3172/6.jpg Megaladon - 50 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Complete Super Mission 6 using Megaladon Shark.

The Megaladon becomes available once you fully-upgrade the Boost, Speed, and Bite of the Great White Shark. The Megaladon will be fully-maxed out from the start. When you begin, you will need to explore the surrounding ocean with the Megaladon Shark to look for eight orange seashells (there are more than eight to find, so there is some leeway) to unlock each of the eight missions for the Megaladon Shark. The eight missions and some helpful tips are below. Each of the requirements must be met in a single run with the Megaladon (revives are OK).

  1. Crowd Surfer - Eat 100 Beach Bystanders: These are the people out of the water on the beaches that you must breach to reach. Head up out of the water and grab 100 total people. Check every single beach.
  2. Jelly Junkie - Eat 100 Jellyfish: This should be no problem. Just eat 100 of them.
  3. Mine Eater - Eat 125 Mines: Same as above. Mines are everywhere.
  4. Paraglider Punish - Eat 5 Paragliders: Paragliders are the people attached to kites being pulled by boats. You must make time breaches at the surface to grab the paragliders in mid-air. This can be a difficult challenge as the spawns for this seem to be very rare. Check all surface areas of the ocean, especially the large open expanses of ocean.
  5. Harpoon Boat Bite - Eat 5 Harpoon Boat Men: Harpoon boat mean are the men throwing spears at you when you get close to their boats. Simply eat 5 of them. Search all surface areas to find them.
  6. Flying Feast - Eat 100 Flying Fish: This will be no problem as flying fish are everywhere. They are the tiny fish found near the surface the jump out of the water to escape from your shark. Eat 100.
  7. Boat Breaker - Eat 12 Fishing Boats: Fishing boats are red and have men fishing from both the front and back. Eat 12 of these boats, found anywhere at the surface of the ocean.
  8. 15 Sunken Objects - Find All 15 Sunken Objects: There are 15 Sunken Objects hidden throughout the entire ocean that are always in the same spot. Find all of them in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for a map of their locations. This will be a very tough challenge as staying alive this long is difficult. Also, the map tends to crash when opening, so it is best to attempt this challenge without it, going in blind from memory and using the ocean map given in the Roadmap as a guide.

User tnk recommends this approach: "Start from the leftmost side with the Guitar, then move to the Jade Dragon, Wakaba, and then Moon on a Stick. Be very careful while going for Moon on a Stick because the maze is quite long and any inaccurate move will cost you a life. It is best to look at the map on a PC to determine which way to go. Once out of Moon on a Stick, you should go for Fake Teeth next since the water current flows from left to right, which makes it easier.

Then move to Toy Robot, Teddy Bear, Dartboard, Egg Picture, Bog Brush, Robot Gibbon, Leaning Tower, then Lucky Horseshoe. The maze to Lucky Horseshoe is short but quite narrow. You may die a couple times here. The next stop would be Covenant and finally Ghetto Blaster, which requires you to boost from the shore on to the land."

Once you complete all 8 missions, the ninth mission, Super Mission 6, will become available. It requires that you earn 5,000,000 points in a single run. See the "General Tips" section at the end of the Roadmap for tips to scoring big. As soon as you complete the challenge, the achievement will unlock.

Thanks for the guide. Do you know approx how much coins is needed to buy the map as well as get to the last shark? Just wondering how much I should aim for if I decide to grind using the time/date method.

The information your request is at some point, mentioned in the guide.

The standard map is 2000 coins, the shell and treasure maps are around 200 Gems total.

The Great White will cost 35,000 coins, and to get Megalodon, the Great White needs to be fully upgrades, which costs 50,000 coins. When you complete Great White missions, you will still need 30-40k.

If you are having a lot of trouble with the game towards the end, it may even be worth it to grind 90k coins for the laser. Though that is about 8 hours of solid time glitching..
