Lack of Split Screen nowerdays?

Has anyone else noticed that over the past few years split screen has completely died out? I understand the fact that every man and his dog is available for online play now, but I don't think that games developers should just scrap split screen modes. I mean, who didn't have fun in the old days playing games like 'Halo 2' and 'Timesplitters' split screen? (Well, before you accused your mate of screen-watching).

But what happened to co-op split screen? Most games have now forgotten about it. I'm at university and live with 2 other gamers, we have a main set up in the front room. It would be awesome if we could actually split screen again and actually make everyone in the room involved with the game.

I personally think that games shouldn't necessarily take a step back, but just include these options, it would certainly make gaming in our house more interesting. What do you guys think? Also could you recommend any games that still include split screen. (Apart from Resi 5).

Yo pretty sure screen watching started with Goldeneye on the N64. Yea I agree with you tho split screen is awesome (except the small screen). Great games that include split screen Borderlands 1+2, Minecraft (think it's up to 4 players), Halo 4 (comes out today sure it's going to have it also probably 4 players), Black ops 2 (zombies) (comes out next week if not Black ops 1 had split screen zombies). There are also tons of games where you can share a screen like the Lego games, family game night 1, and many XBLA games which are remakes of 2 player games (Guardian Heroes [XBLA Dotw for 400m$ tomarrow<--Get it], Streets of Rage Collection, Aegis Wing [FREE], Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, ect., ect.)

Again...I agree 100% with Gackt!

The thing about split screen is, even on a 73" TV, you still lose a lot and it's hardly worth it. I'd rather hook up two 360s and play on different TVs like that.

You have a 73 inch tv?! Holy poop on a stick. Gaming must be a proper treat for you. I've got a 42 inch rv which looks big to me, but 73 inches of televisual goodness must make the experience so much better.

I do like a bit of co op. Only Minecraft gets played on split screen now as none of my current games have the option of split screen.

Gackt and I both have a 73" TV, same model and all...unless he's sold it...which I doubt. But it not only makes gaming the best but any HD program just awesome. 6' x 3' of screen.

I think every game with multiplayer should have splitscreen for the day when I have friends again :) I always found it more fun than playing with people online.

Yeah same. I have friends over sometimes and can't play most of my MP games because of the lack of splitscreen.

As to the TV size discussion going on: I wouldn't want a TV that big. Anything over 34 inches and you're just hurting the look of your picture.

I still have it, but I do my gaming on a 46inch Samsung LED now, picture is a lot better. I use the 73inch for movies :D

It's true that split-screen is lacking in most serious games these days, but I agree that it's not completely neglected. CoD Zombies is totally one good use of it. I don't think you should have to carry another xbox and tv around with you if you want to play locally at someone's house. LAN is for parties and computers, not casual play.

The OP was talking about split screen disappearing, not local co-op.
