Far Cry 2: THE ULTIMATE MULTIPLAYER BOOSTING GUIDE

After clocked 228:37 hours into this game, I decided to write a roadmap just for the multiplayer section of Far Cry 2.

Far Cry 2 is one of the longest 1000 G game ever on Xbox Live, the longest achievements in this game are Soldier of Misfortune and Warlord. If you are going for the full 1000 G, prepare for a long journey in what seems and endless game, but if you soldier on enough, you can achieve it!

Right now I’m rank 30, with 1,522,585 XP! After so many sacrifice, people scamming or giving up, I finally accomplished my achievement!

So, let’s get the basic first. Boosting Far Cry 2 its overall easy, just very time consuming. The majority of the multiplayer achievements can be boosted with just 3 people. 2 people aren’t enough for Soldier of Misfortune and First Response Team/Field Hospital, you need 3 people for revives and multikills. Obviously you can’t start a game with just yourself.

There’s just one achievement that needs more than 3 people, and it’s War Party, you need 16 people (including you) and you also need to win the match with ALL THE 16 PEOPLE TILL THE END OF THE GAME, if just one guy leaves the match, you’ll chance to get War Party are gone!

Far Cry 2 uses a XP system, you get points regarding how you perform during a match, these are the amount of points you make for doing certain tasks:

Killing an Enemy (Normal or Headshot): 15 XP

Killing a Downed Enemy (only on Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond and Uprising): 5 XP

Killing the Captain (only on Uprising): 30 XP

Reviving a Teammate: 15 XP

Taking an Enemy Diamond: 10 XP

Delivering the Enemy Diamond: 20 XP

Capturing a Capture Point: 5 XP

Winning the match: ranges from 15 to 67 XP (depends how you perform)

Suiciding: - 5XP

Killing a Teammate (including the Captain): - 15 XP

At the end of each match, there will be a total of the point you earned during the match and eventually points for winning it! A progression bar will be displayed on the bottom to help you know how much you are close to the next rank.

Now you should know everything, let’s focus first on the easiest achievements, assuming you are boosting with 3 people and just started the multiplayer part of the game:

Best in Class (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/+V9tBQ==.jpg

Get highest xp total in one match (Ranked Match)

First Response Team (10 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/achievements/592/UPuApn8=.jpg

Get highest revives count in a ranked match

Superior Captain (10 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/+35ksA==.jpg

Win a round as the Captain in Uprising mode (Ranked Match)

Battle Hardened (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-tyPSQ==.jpg

Play at least one full round in every Game Mode (Ranked Match)

Safari Tour (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-P2G-A==.jpg

Play at least one full round in every Official Map (Ranked Match)

Now, decide who is gonna host! The host have lots of advantages, the most important is that he can kick people, either in the lobby, either during the match, use this for kick randomers. When you are on the lobby, highlight the name of the randomer, press A then Ban Player.

If you want to ban a player during a match, press the Back Button, select the player you want to ban, press A then Ban Player.

For starting, from the main menu, go to Multiplayer > Ranked Match > Create Match

Game Mode: Deathmatch

Map Cycle: This will help for Safari Tour. Press A and, from Map List (left), add all the map into the Map Rotation list (right): Dirty Work, Last Bastion, Pit Bull, Love Shacks, Mud Muze, Cut Bait, Riot Control, Coup D’Etat, Rumble Strip, Rusty Beef, Far Cry, Crude Awakening, Clear Cut and Sand Blasted. If you have the Fortune Pack, those maps don’t count for Safari Tour. By selecting the map this order, when you finish the map it will be loaded the next map following the this order.

Minimum Players: 6. This is for preventing randomers to start the match.

Respawn Time: For some strange reason, you cannot decide the Spawn Time when your Game Mode is set to Deathmatch, it will allow you to change it only if you selected Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond and Uprising. Anyway, you should put 5 seconds.

Now go to Advanced Options and put “Yes” on “Hardcore Mode”, this will make the weapons a lot more powerful.

Finally, you can start the game by pressing “Launch Match”.

The lobby will be loaded. Now have you friend selecting from the main menu Multiplayer > Ranked Match > Join Custom Match. Change Game Mode to Deathmatch and Map to Dirty Work, then select List Matches. The list should refresh and you can choose the room. If there are other rooms with the same settings, just keep trying till you join with your friend. When all of you have joined, kick any randomer and press “Force Start”, this will start the match immediately, even if nobody are ready, be careful that after you selected it, you cannot stop the countdown. If a randomer joins during the countdown, don’t worry, you can kick it when the match starts!

Now, assuming you and your friend are the ONLY in the match, start boosting. One player goes for Best In Class, the best meeting spot in the map Dirty Work is the windmill, near a broken greenhouse with a supply box in the middle. You’ll be starting to upgrade your first weapon. The choice is yours, but I’ll go first with headshots. After 25 kills (or when the time runs out) the one with most XP gets the achievement, and you’ll be back in the lobby.

Now the host, before starting, goes to Match Options and changes the Game Mode to Team Deathmatch. The best meeting spot in Last Bastion is in the middle, Last Bastion is the best map for boosting, but we’ll talk about it later.

Force start the game and now have another one go for Best in Class, but this time, you can get revives. Have one player of the other team to shoot your teammate, when he fall down, you’ll see he is still alive, and it should be a green box with a medical white cross above him, this means he’s downed an can be revived, approach him and press Y to revive. Done, you just need the most revive in a match, one should be enough! Keep killing the enemy till the match ends.

After the match ends, have the host change the Game Mode to Capture the Diamond. Same as again, have one going for Best In Class/First Response Team by capturing the enemy diamond five times! And even that is done!

Again, after the match ends, have the host change the Game Mode to Uprising. Same as again, have one going for Best In Class/First Response Team and, this time, even for Superior Captain by capturing all the capture points and then killing the enemy captain.

After these 4 match, everybody should earn Battle Hardened! Now you can leave Uprising for the rest of your boosting sessions, as it’s the best mode for boosting thanks to the doubled point if you kill the captain, and this will make Safari Tour a lot faster. Now have who didn’t get Superior Captain to win as captain till both of you have the achievement, then take turns who will capture all the points till you played all the maps! The last map should be Sand Blasted. At this time, both of you should have earned Best in Class/First Response Team/Superior Captain/Battle Hardened/Safari Tour.

WARNING: Safari Tour is known to glitch if you have the DLC "Fortune Pack". If you glitched, check the solution wrote by Protium how to unglitch it HERE.

THAT’S IT! YOU DONE WITH THE EASY ONES, NOW… IT’S TIME TO SIT BACK AND START THE MOST PAINFUL PART OF THE GAME!

War Party (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/+L+Vlg==.jpg

Win a match with 16 players (Ranked Match)

There is nothing that I can suggest for War Party, either boost it or try to do it legit! There are still people playing this game, and you may get lucky and win a match with 16 people, but it’s a mixed bag, probably you’ll end up with a team of newcomers like you against some hardcore veterans going to kick your ass (from level 20 to level 30!!!!), and most of the newcomers will leave the match as soon as it starts. My only suggestion is BOOST IT! Use the [/url]FOLLOWING THREAD to search for partners.

The best way to boost it is to print a list of every players going for the achievement, have one host the match on Uprising, Last Bastion. Now people should use the Join Custom Match option and search for it! The host in the meantime ban any randomer, use the list to assure you’re not kicking the wrong guy, because if you do so, he cannot join a second time to the lobby and you have to recreate a new one! After every 16 boosters are in the lobby, force start. Decide which team have to win and have the captain capturing all the points and killing the enemy captain.

When the lobby loads again, probably the game will shuffle all the players to different teams so those 8 who didn’t get the achievement should now go for it, repeat the match till everybody have it! We have now one tricky achievement out the way.

Upgraded Player (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-R1+bw==.jpg

Upgrade one class 3 times (Ranked Match)

Hired Gun (20 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/UPpgXuw=.jpg

Reach Rank 5 (Ranked Match)

Professional (30 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-WJiiA==.jpg

Reach Rank 10 (Ranked Match)

Field Hospital (40 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-6WOFQ==.jpg

Get 500 revives (Ranked Match)

Here we go! Now your adventure starts here!

First thing first: now you’re gonna always host a match with this settings!

Game Mode: Uprising

Map Cycle: Last Bastion

Minimum Players: 6. This is for preventing randomers to start the match.

Respawn Time: 5 seconds.

Go to Advanced Options and put “Yes” on “Hardcore Mode.

Launch the match, have your friends join and start boosting!

Now, before starting the game, decide who will do revives! The one going for revives must be with another guy. After decided, start the game. Now you’ll clearly played this map, aren’t you? Your meeting spot it’s the boulder near capture point C. Meet up there. Now, the dummy, who is the captain on the other team, crouch near the boudler, his friend, the reviver, stands beside him, now the killer, the loan wolf in the enemy team, start slashing the dummy with the machete on the other side! You just need to press the right trigger ONCE, two strike of machete will down an enemy immediately. Now have the reviver to (obviously) revive the captain. You’ll probably see that each time you are reviving, the dummy moves some feet away the starting point. To prevent this, the killer and the reviver must block him by getting by his sides (ridiculous but true)! It won’t move from there! Now the killer slash the dummy again and waits the reviver to ACTUALLY revive him before rinsing and repeating!

Remember, when the killer have 1500 XP must stop! Every point exceeding the 1500 XP cap will be deleted when you turn off the game. After that, the "dummy" that is the captain, will capture every point and then kill the other captain, and the match will end!

Now you know everything to boost Field Hospital, you’ll eventually get rank 5 and even rank 10 by doing this. When you got 3 diamonds, upgrade just one class to get even Upgraded Player. To upgrade your class, from the lobby (or while ingame by pressing start), go on Load Out, select the class you want to upgrade and press X! Do not press Y, unless you want to redistribute the diamonds, but losing a rank and one diamond!

If you need to change captain! Call for a vote! Press Start, then select Call For A Vote and then select Change Team Captain. Of course, only the team with two people can change captain. After both have voted, have the killer on the other team to kill you (yay), so the game will switch the captain to another player! It may happen that the old captain will die by itself.

Soldier of Misfortune (40 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-GR-Mw==.jpg

Unlock field manuals for all weapons (Ranked match)

Oh, the infamous soldier of misfortune, one of my favorite achievement! To get this one, you have to upgraded EVERY WEAPON!

There are a total of 27 weapons, even if there are 30 weapons to choose. Three of these weapons: Makarov, Mac-10 and IED’s are inserted in two different classes, so their stats stack on both of them. So you don’t have to do that weapon twice. The machete, grenades, molotovs and emplaced weapons do not count for the achievement!

The weapons generally have three things you can upgrade: Operation Manual, Maintenance Manual and Bandolier. The operation manual upgrades with executions (killing a downed enemy), the maintenance manual upgrades with normal kills (NOT HEADSHOTS, NOT EXECUTIONS) and bandolier can be upgraded in two different way depending by the weapon: if the weapon it’s a normal weapon (not explosive), the bandolier will upgrade with headshots, if the weapon is an explosive one (grenade launcher, rocket launcher and IED’s) the bandolier will upgrade with multikills. The only exception to this rule are the LPO-50 (flamethrower) and the flare gun, they only have a maintenance manual.

You can check the weapons stats either on load out (while on lobby or ingame) or if you check your personal stats. By the way, checking personal stats gives you more details about your weapons, the weapons stats starts if you scroll down the stats page to the middle.

Here’s how many executions/kills/headshots or multikills you need for each weapon! Generously copied from the achievement guide in the site and fixed some errors!

Everything but multikills can be done with just 2 players. Multikills are the hardest to get legit. The easiest way to boost them is the following, always choose Uprising on Last Bastion!

You have to be ALONE on your team, and your two friends on the opposite team.

Have your friend crouch by the outside wall of that guarding building in the middle of the map.

They have to stay very close to each one!

Now bring out a normal gun and shoot one or two bullets on the chest of each enemy.

Bring out your explosive weapon, shoot in the middle of your friends. If everything is done right, you should earn a multikill. A multikill is earned when your friends die at the same time, you should see at your left your name in green and the weapon you used to kill them twice on the screen.

This trick is useful especially with the MGL-140, is the worst explosive weapon, it breaks easily and it does little damage even with hardcore mode on if compared with all the other explosive weapons. If your weapon breaks, just suicide or be killed but your friends. This trick may come in handy even for the flamethrower and the flare gun! For the normal weapon there’s no trick involved, just aim and shoot!

BTW, you need to get rank 19 to get the diamonds needed to upgrade all the classes and unlock weapons. So Soldier of Misfortune will help you ranking up, and even make you able to get close to rank 20, or even to gain it!

Mercenary (30 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-IKaGw==.jpg

Reach Rank 20 (Ranked Match)

Warlord (40 G)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/592/-kV2hg==.jpg

Achieve Rank 30 (Ranked Match)

God bless you! You reached the final stage! Going for the most time consuming achievement in the game, and probably, one of the longest achievement ever made! Way to go, Ubisoft!!!!!

Your last step is getting rank 20/30! And guess what, you’re not even halfway rank 30 if you are rank 20! Why? Because for Warlord you need 1,500,000 XP, and you get rank 20 with 250,000 XP, you have the feeling there’s still a VERY VERY LARGE GAP to Warlord? You are right, buddy!

The fastest way to Warlord is the revive/kill methods. But since you are three people, it’s gonna take FOREVER!

You have two choice: safe boosting or the painful “one session boosting”, I’ll explain it right here!

The safe boosting is the same adopting for Field Hospital, when the killer has 1,500 XP, stop and finish the match!

The “all-in-one-go boosting” is, on the other hand, exceeding a lot OVER the 1,500 XP till the match ends for running out of time! Assuming that nothing has happened (you accidently killed the captain, or the reviver cannot revive anymore) you can get the whooping amount of 11,000 XP per match!

This may be very pleasant, but you didn’t make bricks without straw! After the last FC2 patch, Ubisoft inserted a XP cap you can get per match, and that is 1,500 XP! Exceeding it, you still get points, and they will be added on your total at the end of the match! BUT, if you turn off the console or go to the Dashboard, and reload the game, those points over the 1500 will be vanished! That’s right! EVIL!

I don’t recommend the “all-in-one-go boosting” if you connection usually breaks, or your Xbox isn’t in good shape… and even for your sake: you are asking to boost non-stop for 20 hours straight! If the server suddenly go down, or the power cut out, you lose everything! You are at the mercy of things you cannot control, so think twice before going for it!

YOU CANNOT STOP

Now, let’s do some math.

If you are going for the safe boosting: you get 1500 XP in 3 – 4 minutes, and the match lasts 5 minutes (if everything is done right). Ignoring loading times and setting up, in one hour you can get 18,000 XP! 18,000 x 83.5 hours = 1,500,000 XP! Here we go! With safe boosting you are looking for 83.5 hours, and that’s if you are starting from scratch! 70 hours if you are starting from rank 20!

Let’s state that you and your friend are both rank 20, and it’s 210 hours of good solid boosting before everyone of you gets Warlord! :D

Here each ranks and the amount of point to earn them!

Rank 1: 0

Rank 2: 150

Rank 3: 450

Rank 4: 1,200

Rank 5: 2,100

Rank 6: 3,300

Rank 7: 5,500

Rank 8: 7,000

Rank 9: 10,000

Rank 10: 15,000

Rank 11: 20,000

Rank 12: 27,500

Rank 13: 40,000

Rank 14: 55,000

Rank 15: 75,000

Rank 16: 100,000

Rank 17: 125,000

Rank 18: 150,000

Rank 19: 200,000

Rank 20: 250,000 MERCENARY

Rank 21: 300,000 PROFESSIONAL

Rank 22: 400,000 VETERAN

Rank 23: 500,000 HARD CASE

Rank 24: 600,000 DOG OF WAR

Rank 25: 700,000 LIEUTENANT

Rank 26: 800,000 CAPTAIN

Rank 27: 900,000 COLONEL

Rank 28: 1,000,000 FIELD MARSHAL

Rank 29: 1,250,000 WARLORD

Rank 30: 1,500,000 GRAND WARLORD

If you think you are raking up fast from rank 1 to 9! You are! Then from 9 it goes slower and slower. And when you reach 21, you seem that you’ll take for ever to rank up… I’m not gonna say anything when you’re rank 28!

If you a brave enough to survive for all this long, you’ll got 1000 G to Far Cry 2 (unless you focused first with multiplayer, which is highly recommendable now)!

FAQ

1) When I play this game legit, I always get kicked, why?

The host is either a douche or a loser! This happens if you kill him many times, or if he just sadistic enough to kick without any reason. Boosting this game is better IMHO!

2) During the game I get “Far Cry 2 servers are unavailable. Please try again later”.

Oh no! Perhaps one of the most annoying message! That happens when your game lost the connection to the Ubisoft servers, either for maintenance, bad connection or worst… closure :(! Everything you did on the match is lost… “puff!”

3) During the game, I get the “Network error occurred” or something similar then the match ends!

This happen when you lost the connection to Ubisoft servers due of a problem of your modem, or when the last enemy player leaves the match! If the first thing happens, you lose the point because your stats cannot be saved into servers as the connection is missing, if the second thing happens, don’t worry then, you’ll stats will be saved!

4) I have fully upgraded a weapon, but when I load up the game after a while, some of my kills are gone, why?

Nobody knows the answer of that, it happened to me as well! Try to wait before quitting the game so your stats will be uploaded easily. It’s funny that you lose only weapon stats but not the XP you did!

5) After I went to the dashboard and reloaded the game, some of my XP are gone, why?

Maybe you didn’t read the warlord section, but I will explain It here! Due of Ubisoft not liking boosters, a patch was made to “prevent” this problem. It sets a 1,500 XP cap on each match, if you exceed that, everything but XP will be saved. That’s why you lose XP! And no, removing the patch won’t allow you to play on XBL, as the patch is mandatory! Avoid exceeding that amount… unless you are going for the “all-in-one-go boosting”!

6) Is it possible to earn achievement in player matches?

No! The achievements clearly says that you have to do them on ranked! And in player matches none of your stats will be saved and you only get to rank 19!

7) I don’t how, but the dummy just went through the map and felt into and endless pit, why?

Frankly I don’t know what’s happening, it’s a bug in the game! As I wrote in the Field Hospital section, the only way to block the dummy is to get close to his feet while he is on the ground and then reviving/killing it. By doing this, the dummy’s game still thinks he’s moving, but on your screens you cannot see it! If you are not fast enough to kill (or revive) the dummy, he will suddenly teleport outside the map and fall! The only way to stop this is to kick him!

8) I exceeded the 1500 XP cap, can I do something?

Yes, if the match is still running, suicide yourself. You lose 5 points! For example, If you have 1,520 XP, suicide four times, you’ll lose 20 points and you’ll be back to 1,500!

9) During the match I lost an huge amount of point and I deranked, why?

Because in the load out menu you pressed Y which will reset every diamonds you inserted and you even lose a rank for doing that! A message should appear warning you about that, you may have pressed A without read it! Try not doing this, because on greater ranks you’ll need a lot of points! If this happened, go to the dashboard or be banned from the game by the host! The reset option will stop working after you upgraded everything, well, because it would be pointless now to de-upgrade every class!

10) My custom map won’t work on ranked, why?

It would be too easy if you can upload a very small map for boosting this game! But it is not! Ubisoft will take a look on each map you upload, and if it’s good enough, it will be approved for ranked matches! Do not expect that your tiny map with all the respawning points close to each other will be used on ranked, I tried for myself, so don’t bother!

11) I cannot revive anymore or pick ammo/climbing leader, the Y prompt button won't appear, what happened?

It's a bug! Try these solutions:

1) Change your controller layout and change it back to your favourite, sometimes works.

2) Have someone kill you.

3) One of my fellow boosters, UNeakONE, suggested to switch from your weapon to IED's (if using Guerrilla or Saboteur), this will fix the problem, though it may still happen!

This problem won't happen to the host, so maybe you want have the host to be the reviver.

12) When I shoot someone, seems invincible, why?

When someone spawns, above his will be displayed an hovering white shield with a black medical cross on it, that's means he's invincible, the game gives 5 seconds of invincibility before be mortal again! If you want to remove this invincibility immediatly, have the invincible guy to shoot, no matter where, and all your problems are resolved!

13) Can I still get points if I ban everyone or everyone leaves?

Yes you can still get points, but I wouldn't ban everyone in a game (unless you're boosting) because this will harm your rep. Banned players cannot rejoin to your lobby, so you have to create a new one.

14) I have 3 Xbox, can I boost with those?

Yes! It has its pro and cons: pro is that you can do alone without waiting for players, cons is that you might get tired as you have to repeatedly press the right trigger in one controller and Y in another one. Of course, this works for every achievements but War Party.

15) Is still possible to boost 1 vs 1?

Well, yes but I wouldn't go for that: first you cannot get multikills or revives. Second, assuming the other guy is a dummy or a reliable friend who left the console for you, you can get 1,500 XP by going back and forth last bastion, but it takes the full 15 minutes to do that! (I tried, but it's long)!

That’s all, folks! I hope this guide will be useful!

thank you!!

right now i´m at level 16, boosting manuals for the weapons, and this guide gave me a few pointers that i didn´t know. i still have a few doubts and i´ll be very glad if you can help me:

i´ve heard that if you´re host and reach the 1.500xp, you can ban the players on the other team, end the match quickly, and still mantain you xp gained. i know that this way the reviver won´t get xp, but it´ll help if you´re boosting with 2 dummies. is this true? and can they join the match afterwards or do you have to create another session?

also, if you accidentally goes over 1500xp, when you back off to the dashboard you lose all xp or just the amount over 1500?

Yes this is true, you can still gain points if you ban everyone or everyone leaves. You can boost with 2 dummies and your main account, but it's all guesswork since you have to use two controller at the same time :)!

About the XP, you only lose what's over the 1,500 cap!

I should add this to the FAQ, help me get this thread stickied please, you would do me a great favour!

thank you for your answer!

right now i am boosting weapon manuals on last bastion 1x1, and it takes around 12 minutes to reach the 1500xp cap. if you move around correctly, the dummy account always spawn on the same 2 spawn points and you just keep running to them and killing.

i am only doing executions and headshots this way. for the remaining kills it´s faster to use a reviver, so i will be doing those with a friend.

also, what can i do to help stick your thread?

Your numbers of 11000+ don't add up for a 15 min match. We are hitting 7500 per match on average..

i did another run and finally got my achievement this weekend. i was able to hit from 10k to 12k in a very good run.

put the slasher on the red team, the reviver and the dummy on the yellow team; on the left side of the yellow base (near capture point C), there are some barrels were the reviver will jump and stay atop of them. the dummy have to face the barrels and to his right must be the short wall overlooking the central courtyard. the slasher stays the closer he can get to the dummy. also the reviver must be the host, otherwise the aim will auto-center every time you revive the dummy.

i have read this method in other forum but i don´t remember the name of the person who developed this technique. this is the fastest way to kill and revive the dummy i have come across.

This is actually way quicker and easier if you create your own map. Also when using the MGL, it's faster and more efficient to have one of the two people you're killing (for the multi kills) ALSO equip the MGL. Once in position and the spawn protection is gone just fire the MGL into the ground (at your feet, or for even more damage, against a wall you're standing next to) and it should knock out enough health from both 'victims' that the person boosting the MK's need only fire their MGL once. It's quicker and less annoying than shooting both players, or having them shoot each other, or firing 2 MGL rounds into them. This trick with the MGL is also handy when you're boosting the flame thrower and flare gun kills.
