Ravenhood
Overview Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10 Offline: 24/24 (1000G) Online: 0 (0) Approximate amount of time to 1000G: 4 - 6 Hours Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1 Missable achievements: None (Chapter select available) Does difficulty affect achievements?: No Unobtainable/glitched achievements: None Extra equipment needed?: None Introduction: Bedlam - The Game, is the video game adaptation to the novel Bedlam, written by Christopher Brookmyre. You control Heather Quinn, aka. Athena, as she finds herself thrown into the world of an old video game that she finds herself unable to leave. She soon discovers an oddly interconnected universe of video games spanning the history of the FPS genre and, at times, gaming in general. Athena must shoot her way through these worlds if she hopes to find a way out. Step 1: Campaign The entirety of Bedlam - The Game consists of 20 single player missions; 19 of the 24 achievements are story-related and are, as such, unmissable. It's entirely possible to receive all 24 achievements by the end of a single playthrough with no need for using Chapter Select later, though you may have to reload certain checkpoints or saves to retry certain achievements. Throughout the story, you'll unlock "Flex Those Fingers", "We're not Jammin'", "Domina Tricks", "Short A Bob Or Two", "Is That Wheelie The Boss You Can Do?", "Who Guards The Guard Towers", "... But You Wouldn't Want To Live There", "Make Them Rue The Day", "Allo 'Allo", "Tank Busting Makes Me Feel Good", "Don't Mess With Valve", "We've Got a Killscreen", "Shall I fetch a cloth?", "Great Baws O' Fire!", "Wee Plushies", "Corruption Leaves Me Cold", "Up-Diddley-Up-Up", "2D or not 2D?", and "GG". Step 2: Mop-Up w/Chapter Select This step is only necessary if you simply played through the story without achieving, attempting, or focusing on the 5 non-story achievements. With Chapter Select, you can attempt any of these 4 achievements with relative ease. In the case of "Winners Never (Rage)Quit", you'd have to play through the entire chapter again using Chapter Select; I would recommend making frequent saves throughout this chapter so you can reload a previous save closer to when this achievement is attainable. The other 4 achievements are either very quick and simple to obtain ("Clipping Error?") or are meant to be attempted during the full duration of the chapter ("Killing Spree", Ding!, and "1337 b0mb4D33r"). "Clipping Error?" can be achieved in Chapter 1: Alive1. "Killing Spree" can be unlocked in Chapter 5: Pure Rocket Arena. "Winners Never (Rage)Quit" can be achieved in Chapter 6: Rage-Quit Reactor. Ding! can be achieved in Chapter 17: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Planetfire. "1337 b0mb4D33r" can be achieved in Chapter 19: Rescue Run. Conclusion: Bedlam - The Game is a simple and short 1000G to obtain. The style and story is entertaining enough to make the whole package worth the playthrough, and the connections to the novel will entice fans of the original story to play this to see what else this universe contains. If you're a fan of old school Quake/Doom/Hexen/etc.-styled shooters, this game is worth a try. In order to earn over 3500 points, you must shoot almost every available enemy on screen, with only 1 or 2 deaths MAXIMUM allowed, as you lose points for every death. The most important thing to remember is to shoot constantly with , and drop bombs to attack the ground-based enemies with . Keep in mind that you need to lead your bombs; they don't fall straight down, instead arcing down to the right in front of your ship. You may need to restart this chapter a few times before getting a run just right. http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3413/108679-lo.jpg2D or not 2D? Complete the secondary objective This is attainable in Chapter 1: Alive1, and is almost impossible to miss. As you progress through the level, you'll notice a secondary objective on your screen appear that says "?". Follow the paths/the orange icon on your compass to locate a white, cracked-looking portal. Walk/jump into this, and walk through the new area you find yourself in. You'll find one object on the ground while you're here. After reaching this item, exit the area via your original portal, and you'll be back in the main area. The achievement will unlock by the time you leave this "secret" area. http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3413/108682-lo.jpgCorruption Leaves Me Cold Escape from Age of Attrition Story-related, unmissable. See "GG" for more details. http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3413/108683-lo.jpgDing! Hope Springs Eternal This achievement is obtained during Chapter 17: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Planetfire. Near the end of the level, you will need to retake a spawn point, and soon after reaching it, waves of enemies will almost endlessly attack. During this time, you should venture outside of the base to take out as many enemies as you can, making sure to keep an eye out for the various health packs and armor pickups littered around the area. Defeating a large number of enemies here before Bedlam tells you to escape will result in Athena saying she deserves an achievement. Once she makes this comment, the achievement will pop. It is possible to defeat the waves of enemies BEFORE reaching the spawn point objective. This, however, could result is Athena never commenting on getting an achievement, thus never triggering the achievement. To be safe, make a save before defeating too many enemies, and before reaching the objective, so you can reload and re-attempt the achievement a different way if necessary. Credit goes to user DeltaKappaEcho for pointing out the potential non-story-related nature of the achievement. http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/3413/108684-lo.jpgDomina Tricks Secure Sigma Sector Story-related, unmissable. This achievement, along with 18 others, will be achieved by the time you've played through the campaign. Difficulty does not affect any achievement, so you're free to play through on any of the three difficulties you so choose. The enemies you fight here are the only ones in the game who can kill you in seconds. Luckily, you respawn immediately, and have multiple chances during the chapter. You must successfully kill 5 enemies in a row without dying within a 15 kill limit. This means that, if you die during your 11th overall kill, and have not already unlocked the achievement, you must reload the chapter or a previous checkpoint to try again. You can find higher ground to take a vantage point with a long ranged weapon (if you have one), or find the rocket launcher in this stage at the highest point in the Arena. You will eventually come across one of the white portals; around this time, a 20 second countdown will begin. DO NOT go through this portal once you reach it. Instead, continue following the hallway you're standing in to the right, and make your way through a short number of rooms and enemies to find a button which controls the reactor. Push this button with to stop the impending explosion. The achievement will unlock shortly after pressing this button. DeltaKappaEcho
One note - "Ding!" is NOT a story-based achievement and can be missed. On the stage "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Planetfire" you will be given objectives as you advance. The third objective is to retake the spawn point. Once that objective appears, avoid entering large bases and just keep traveling along the outside areas of the map and kill the seemingly endless amount of enemies. Honestly it can take awhile but eventually Athena will comment on how she should get an achievement for her actions and then it will unlock. Entering a base and triggering the defend objective resulted in it never occurring for me on my first attempt and based on the amount of users that have unlocked it versus all the other achievements - it seems quite easy to miss. Ravenhood
Is that so? Hmm, I wasn't aware there was a chance of missing that, as every time I remained inside of the base, the enemies would come after me anyways. I'll make a note of it, thank you! Edit: I'll be testing this out to see if she makes a note about getting an achievement or not shortly. I'll double-check on TrueAchievements to see if there's anything more there. Edit 2: Are you the writer of the guide for Ding! on TA? Or just relaying that information? There isn't much discussion on there about this either, so I'll test it out myself to make sure all the same. Edit 3: I've just tried staying inside of the base, to see if her comment still occurred, and it definitely did. I'll test out not going into the base at all for a time, and see if she says it before activating the objective. My assumption here is that the achievement is SUPPOSED to be story-related. And the Steam discussion hub seems to indicate this as well. The only guide on the game related to achievements doesn't note Ding! as being non-story-related, while listing the other 4 non-story-related ones. Edit 4: I just tried clearing out as many enemies as possible before touching the secondary objective. Not only did Athena NEVER bring up the desire for an achievement, but enemies stopped spawning altogether, so there were no more kills to achieve to trigger the comment. Holding off the assault consisted of standing around doing sweet FA until Bedlam told me to get moving. So, it appears as though the only way the achievement is supposed to NOT trigger is by killing enemies BEFORE reaching the objective. Essentially, the comment isn't triggered unless the objective is reached prior to defeating the waves of enemies. As for why yours didn't pop, I can't say. And while I do believe this is SUPPOSED to be story-related, I do agree with you that, based on this possible batch of outcomes, that it CAN be considered non-story-related. Edit 5: It should be noted that the achievement unlock percentage on TA is roughly equivalent to that of the achievements directly after "Ding!". Both "Up-Diddley-Up-Up" and "2D or not 2D?" are currently at 27% unlocked, with "Ding!" at 26%. "1337 b0mb4D33r" is at 19%, with "GG" at 24%. So, there is a certain likelihood of the achievement being non-story-related, though I continue to assume the intention was for it to be story-related and unmissable to begin with. Maybe there will be changes in the future to correct this? Edit 6: I've credited you with the information on "Ding!". Thank you for the information! I've edited it here, as well as in my official guide submission. If there's anything else, feel free to let me know! DeltaKappaEcho
Sorry for the delay - yes, I added the comment on TrueAchievements because that was the first place I looked. To be clear - when I first went through the mission I navigated to the third objective point skipping as many enemies as I could and "retake the spawn points" turned into defend and she never said the line when the defense sequence ended. I did remain in the base where the third body was the whole time and let them come to me. After searching TrueAchievements (which I could swear had a lower completion percentage yesterday but maybe I misread it) and this guide - I found a similar question pertaining to the unlock on the Steam boards - http://steamcommunity.com/app/261490/discussions/0/618457398968474074/ I noticed the user mentions Athena asking for an achievement after he killed a large number of enemies so I simply replayed the level and killed every single enemy all the way up to the third objective "retake the spawn points" and then I refrained from locating and the final body and just kept killing outside. I didn't notice the objective change to "defend" but a ton of enemies spawned in various spots and the music kicked in maybe two minutes into the killing and a few mins later she said the line, I got the achievement, and the game hard crashed my system (in Preview Program - second achievement in this game to do so) so I can't verify what happened after that objective wise but simply wanted to note this as based on my experience and the post on the Steam boards - you seem to need to trigger her line and I know it can be avoided accidentally so wanted to mention in case anyone else ends the game and realizes it didn't pop. Ravenhood
No worries! I'm just glad you pointed it out; I was able to make the changes here and to my submission in the official forum posts. Hopefully they stick there, but at least I've got the info to edit the guide later if only the original draft is accepted. It does seem somewhat finicky on exactly how it unlocks. Like I mentioned in my edits on my previous post, trying it your way on my own test, killing as many as possible before reaching that objective, resulted in Athena never stating the line at all. Entirely alternatively, it seems like that's the exact way that you DID manage to unlock it. So, I'm unsure of whether or not it's random, but it certainly seems like the best thing to do is just kill everything. If it doesn't work one way, then the other should suffice. I also noticed the Steam question a few days ago. It didn't seem to be specific to our current issue; from what I had read on a few topics, a couple of the achievements we see in the One version were added post-release on the PC version (was it Early Access? Or just well updated?), so it seems as though some achievements never had their in-game triggers activated. Hence why the dev mentions activating the unlock for GG in their next patch. johnb
Your explanation of Ding! worked for me, thanks! Once I arrived at the base to retake the spawn, I ran around outside for ~3 minutes killing enemies and the achievement unlocked.

Ravenhood
Glad we could help out, johnb! I'm still a little shocked there's any chance at missing this one; it came so naturally while I originally played that it seemed like it was meant to happen at all times. But I'm stoked that my guide and Delta's contribution is going to be able to help people out. =)
