Introduction

Earth Defense Force 2025 is the sequel to the 2006 game Earth Defense 2017. Taking place 8 years after the first Ravager invasion, humanity has managed to rebuild itself, and the widespread belief is that the Ravagers have been defeated, and their giant insects have been completely eradicated from the Earth. However, it turns out that the single mother-ship that almost destroyed all of humanity 8 years ago was only the initial Ravager assault. Over the past 8 years, the Ravagers have been preparing their second assault, waiting for the few remaining giant insects hidden underground to breed and evolve, in hopes that they will overrun the Earth and make for an easy defeat of humanity. However, the Ravagers are not the only ones who have been preparing. The human race, anticipating a second attack from the Ravagers have been training more EDF soldiers, as well as adapting new technology and new ways to combat alien threats. Now, the human race must fight to survive against an alien force 10 times the size of the force that nearly annihilated them during the first invasion. It is up to you, a Commander in the EDF to fight off the alien forces and save the human race.

EDF 2025, unlike its predecessor, has 4 different classes you can play as. Each of the four classes is suited for different styles of fighting and each come with their own stats and weapons sets. As you progress through the game, you will strengthen your soldier, as well as unlock new weapons to use in battle. Unlike most games, it is almost required to start this game on normal difficulty. If you try and dive straight into the games hardest difficulty, the dreaded Inferno mode, you will quickly get killed due to your lack of armor and strong weapons.

Starting a new game

When you start a new game, you will be prompted to select a save file. Once this is done, you will be brought to a menu that presents you with three options, Mission Mode, Online Mission Mode, and Versus Mode. Mission Mode is where you can complete missions locally with either 1 or 2 players. Online Mission Mode allows you to team with up to 3 friends over Xbox Live. A second split-screen guest can join a player in online missions, however, they still share progress, weapons, etc. with the first player on the console. Versus Mode is just that, a death match between players.

Classes

In the game, players can select between 4 different classes: Ranger, Wing Diver, Air Raider, and Fencer. Each of the classes has its own health and armor, its own pool of weapons, and its own strengths and weaknesses. You can change your class in the class/equipment menu in the Mission Mode menu.

Ranger

The Ranger is your basic all purpose soldier. Ranger class starts off with decent armor and has a max armor of 1000, and starts out with only an assault rifle and a rocket launcher, but can unlock several others by collecting weapons crates during campaign missions. The Ranger can unlock numerous weapons ranging from shotguns, to tracking missiles launchers. I highly suggest that this class be the first class that new players use, as it is rather easy to use, and can withstand a good amount of punishment before going down.

Wing Diver

The Wing Diver sacrifices armor for maneuverability. By far the most maneuverable of the classes, the Wing Diver sports a jump pack which allows them to quickly traverse the battlefield. The jump pack, as well as most of the Wing Diver weapons draw off the players energy reserve displayed on the right hand side of the screen. If this energy is completely used up, it will take a while to recharge, so try to not let it get emptied. In order to be able to be so mobile, the Wing Diver cannot have much armor (max of 550), and therefore it is best to stay out of the battle and use your maneuverability to your advantage to dodge enemy attacks.

Air Raider

The Air Raider is primarily a support class, however if used correctly, they can be a devastating front-line combat class. In terms of maneuverability and armor, the air raider is at par with the ranger class, however it is the air raider weapons that sets them apart. Air raiders are capable of carrying two weapons as well as a vehicle request. Being the only class who can call in vehicles from command, the air raider can be a great asset when backed by other more offensive classes. In addition to being able to call in vehicles, the air raider can sport a wide variety of devastating weapons, ranging from the starter limpet gun, which shoots explosive sticky bombs that can be remote detonated by the player, to devastating artillery strikes that can easily wipe out half of an enemy force.

Fencer

By far the most powerful of all the classes, the fencer sacrifices speed and maneuverability for raw firepower and high armor. The fencer's control scheme differs greatly from the other classes, and I suggest only seasoned players attempt to use the class, as it can be rather difficult to control. However, when used correctly, the fencer can easily combat entire enemy forces by itself. The fencer is capable of carrying four weapons at once, ranging from miniguns, to portable artilley, to close range melee weapons, and even sheilds. The fencer can also have a whopping 1250 max armor, making it a variable tank.

Enemies

Throughout the many levels in EDF, you will encounter a multitude of enemies. Each enemy has a different fighting style and each has a different strategy for fighting them. Several enemies also have variations that are handled differently than the basic enemy.

Black Terror Ant

http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120813023619/theearthdefenseforce/images/thumb/0/04/Black_Terror_Ant_2017.jpg/180px-Black_Terror_Ant_2017.jpg

The black terror ant is the most common enemy in every EDf game. They are rather easy to kill and don't pose much of a threat by themselves, but the can be deadly in large groups, especially on higher difficulties. Black Ants shoot acid out of their abdomen. The amount of acid they shoot varies depending on difficulty, ranging from only a few drops on Easy to a full fledged acid shotgun on Inferno.

Tactics:

  • Always keep moving: If you stop moving, even for a second, you can easily fall prey to the ants acid or get bitten.
  • Always watch your back: Make sure you are always aware of what's behind you. Ants can easily get behind you and surprise attack you. While on Easy difficulty, this won't normally be a problem, on Inferno difficulty, one close range ant acid splash is all it will take to kill you.

Crimson Terror Ant

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140827085935/allspecies/images/thumb/8/80/Crimson_Terror_Ant.jpg/100px-220,643,0,422-Crimson_Terror_Ant.jpg

The crimson terror ants are a variant of the standard black terror ant. They have significantly more health, however they cannot shoot acid. Because of this, the crimson terror ant's main attack is to charge and bite its enemies. The ants telegraph their charges rather obviously, slowly backing up and raising their abdomen well before charging. When they charge, get out of their path, as they cannot change direction once they begin charging.

Tactics:

  • Always keep moving: As with the black terror ants, always keep moving. If you stop, you're likely to get bitten.
  • Always watch your back: Again, as with the black terror ants, always be aware of what's behind you. Crimson ants can very easily bite you if you aren't aware of what's going on behind you.
  • Spray and Pray: While shooting crimson ants, they are momentarily paralyzed and cannot charge at you. When facing large groups of crimson ants, try to spray and hit all the ants to keep them from charging you.

http://im8.trueachievements.com/imagestore/0001356200/1356227.jpgMaster Ranger 15:gsicon:

Ranger's health has reached 1000.

During battles, enemies will drop random items. One of these items is the armor crate.

http://cdn2.gamefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/EDF2025-1-3.jpg

When you pick up an armor crate, it will increase the max health of your current class. The amount by which it increases your health is adjusted for each class in order for each class to require exactly 1725 armor crates to unlock their achievement. This means that the ratios of health increase per armor crate for each class are as follows.

Ranger: 0.464:1

Wing Diver: 0.232:1

Air Raider: 0.464:1

Fencer: 0.580:1

If you actually collect pickups during your campaign runs (which you'd be insane not to, as you will get destroyed on higher difficulties if you don't have a lot of armor and powerful weapons), you should have this achievement unlocked by the time you unlock the four campaign achievements for each class. If you have beaten all four difficulties for each class and still haven't unlocked these achievements, there are two main ways to acquire lots of armor crates, and they are listed below.

1. The non-grinding method involves killing all but one or two enemies in a level and then going around to collect all the pickups before killing the last enemy and ending this mission. For this strategy, it is best to leave a weaker enemy as they will be less likely to kill you while you collect your pickups. Be careful not to leave the last remaining enemies near NPC EDF soldiers, as they will attempt to kill it and occasionally end the misson prematurely. This strategy will not work on levels that have mission a completion requirement that is not to kill all enemies, such as Level 69: Tower Siege, where you must destroy the giant wasp nest to complete the mission.

2. The grinding method is simple. Change your loadout to include an explosive weapon that does high damage and has a large blast radius, and an assault rifle for clean up. Once this is done, start up a level that has some type of structure or vehicle that spawns infinite amounts of enemies (And preferably stays in one place). When the enemies spawn, blow them up, clean up survivors with the assault rifle, collect pickups, and repeat. This method can also be used to farm weapons, however more powerful weapons are required to farm for hard weapons or higher.

http://im4.trueachievements.com/imagestore/0001356200/1356223.jpgRescue 15:gsicon:

Rescue 5 other players in co-op play.

To rescue someone, you must be playing in co-op, either local or online. In order to rescue a downed teammate, walk up to them and hit :back:. Doing this will take away half of your health and give it to the downed teammate. Do this 5 times to unlock the achievement. If needed, you can down your own teammates by shooting them.

http://im3.trueachievements.com/imagestore/0001356200/1356222.jpgMedic 10:gsicon:

Healed another player in co-op play.

This achievement is fairly easy. It can be done in either local splitscreen or online co-op. Both Ranger and Air Raider classes have early weapons that can heal teammates. You might have to farm a little to get one, but once you have one, go into a co-op game. Walk up to a injured teammate and use the healing item on them. The achievement should pop as soon as you heal the teammate. Keep in mind that your teammate must be injured in order for you to heal them. If needed, you can shoot your teammate in order to damage them.

Mission Mode

EDF 2025's Mission Mode consists of 85 missions with 5 difficulty levels each: Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardest, and Inferno. Unlike in EDF 2017, there are no achievements for beating all missions on easy difficulty, however new players may find it useful to complete easy mode first to build up their armor and weapons, especially if they are having difficulty with normal difficulty. A list of all missions, along with a description of the mission, can be found below.

Mission 1 - Reconvene

Enemies: Black Terror Ants

A fairly simple mission. The mission consists of three groups of black terror ants attacking civilians. On this level, the ants will only bite and will not use there acid. Kill all of the ant in each group to make the next group spawn. Don't worry about civilian casualties, they don't effect anything. Once the third group is defeated, the mission will end.

Mission 2 - Spreading Disaster

Enemies: Black Terror Ants

Another easy mission. Now, the ants will start to use there acid. Keep moving to avoid being hit by their acid blasts. While one ant's acid is not very dangerous by itself, you can easily be killed when the ants are in a large swarm. The level consists of two waves of black ants. Kill all of the ants in the first wave to make the second wave spawn further down the street. Once all the ants are killed, Ohara will have a short amount of dialogue about the wing divers. Once Ohara is done talking, the mission will end.

Mission 3 -Winged War Goddess

Enemies: Black Terror Ants
