The update is good so far. Still have to get use to picking up items instantly and kicking costing stamina.

The XP award for challenges is insane. 60,000-100,000 for challenge level 3-4.

Thank god! The challenges were so worthless before this. Most take a really long time to complete, and there's no way you'd be less than level 40 by the time you finish them, yet the XP was like 1000, which is meaningless at that level. So glad to hear about the increase.

So far new patch is great! Fixed "there and back" for me (popped after loading a save), and the chapter select lets you keep your character totally intact now (level/inventory) which is awesome. Planning on doing the prison over and over to get to level 60!

Does the buying and selling the Orleander to tribe guy still work?

Also is the Right 4 Life achievement tracking each character fixed?

The Oleander thing still works, but instead of being rewarded 1000xp it's only 600 now :/

Does anyone know how much XP it is to get to level 60?

I'm almost done with most of the achievements, and the one that will take the longest is getting to lvl 50.

I tried playing with my lvl 37 Xian who has already completed the game once, but I saw no increased quest rewards. Getting Sinamoi's Keycard from the bungalow still only awards 400 XP, but I do have to hack my way through lvl 37 zombies while getting there. It all seems rather strange to me.

I've heard talk of people actually getting higher quest XP, and not only increased Continuous Event XP and increased Challenge XP. Can anyone confirm or debunk this? I haven't encountered any of the Continous events yet to check, so I'm not sure wether or not those increased.

Is it possible this has to do with the fact I started the New Game+ prior to the 1.3 patch, and you have to actually finish the game post 1.3 and then restart the story just to have the game register it?

If it turns out to be a pain in the ass to get to 50 without increased Quest XP I think I'll just remove the update and lvl using the Thug method.

What if you use the chapter select to load your character in a specific chapter? Maybe that will work?

I tried that after noticing the quest rewards in my second run turned out to be the same as before.

I went to start new game, selected chapter 1, and selected my lvl 37 to import stats and inventory. It started me in the Life Guard station with skulls on the map as if I had to clear it from undead, but the quest tracker said "talk to Sinamoi". I went over to the hut on the beach where the game starts after the prologue, and saw Sinamoi's red exclamation mark, but all doors were locked and I could not get in.

I reloaded from last checkpoint and it started me right in front of Sinamoi this time. He still offered me only 400 exp for retrieving the Security Card.

Seems these new features are hardly tested at all... :(

I think Quest XP should always scale to your level, as the enemies do as well, so a quest never gets really easy as compared to the first time. On the contrary, quests only get harder, as zombies get stronger and more agressive on higher levels.

For example: I completed two ACT 1 runs last week without dieing once, and when restarting ACT 1 with my lvl 37 Xian I got killed on my way to the Lifeguard station because the zombies acted way more agressive and fast as opposed to my lvl 1 runs, and they totally tore me a new one.

The balance is way off in this game, which is a shame, as it's still a pretty fun game to play.

If you are only trying to grind to level 50 why don’t you chapter select to later in the game where you get more exp for completing the missions.

Just keep playing the prison. There is a fair few thugs and rams towards the end plus you get big exp for killing Ryder White. Plus you get a Zeds demise every time you do it.:)

Yeah I was thinking about that, including trying if the actual run after finishing the game again does indeed give boosted XP for quests. But I really hated the last parts in the game, especially the part leading up to and including the Helipad bit.

In the hallways leading there the enemies (most notable Rams and Infected) just seemed to respawn rather fast and close by me, and when facing 3 or more infected I usually get demolished pretty bad. So I died at least 3 or 4 times in the hallways leading up to the helipad, and 3 or 4 times on the actual helipad because I kept gettign swarmed by infinite spawning Infected (that's one of the things I truly hate, things spawning right in my face). In the jungle I didn't even die once, except in Ope's village trying to escort Yerema and once again getting tore up by multiple infected swarming me..

So I'd rather skip that part and grind some exp the boring way as opposed to getting raped some more by those damn infected.

Or maybe it really is a lot easier now they don't interrupt your attacks anymore. Hmm, I might try it anyway, but I'd really rather not. ;)

One weird bug I spotted... with my corrupted level 45 Sam B save (I'd basically done all the side missions initially available in the Jungle, ready to head on and do more plot). After the game fixed the corruption and used chapter select to start me at the beginning of the jungle (chapter 10)... it also cleared my progress on most of the quests in the resort and city.

I've spent several hours redoing the quests in the earlier 2 areas to get some more XP as I work towards level 50. Anyone else loading a corrupted save spotting this?

When you use chapter select it is basically creating a new game, and it treats some of the main quests as completed (I think), but everyhting else is seen as imcomplete, it doesn't actually look at what quests you had finished in the game you imported progress and items from.

I noticed exactly the same, and I think it's a good solution, it enables you to get your current character to a certain area and do a specific quest for a reward you are looking for, or for example getting into the Abandoned House in Moresby for the skull pickup and dropoff if you missed out on that and can't return anymore.

Well there's your problem. The patch increase XP for quest rewards on consecutive playthroughs. So starting at chapter 1 won't affect anything. You have to complete the game and start a new game + for it to increase XP for quests. At least, from what I understand of the patch.

Yeah I was figuring that too, but I did have an actual subsequent play save in a second run, however it was started before the patch, so I guess that won't work.

I just did it the Thug way now. I uninstalled the patch, loaded up my lvl 14 Sam B I used for Right 4 Life, and lvled to 49.9 on the passive Thug at Harlan. Then I reapplied the patch, Restarted at Chapter 1 with my lvl 49.9 Sam B, and unlocked the achievement on my 3rd zombie kill.

So it still works, but just needs a little extra effort. Took me roughly 60-90 minutes to unlock it.

Ok so here is what I noticed about the update;what follows are my likes and dislikes.

Likes:

-Zombie Damage has been Nerfed ( A lvl 50 infected can't break me down in one combo)

-Increased lvl cap to 60

-Increased XP ~25% more

-All the chest have weapons and you know when you are using your lock pick skill

-Saves fixed I can use my lvl 32 Xian again

-MP connections seem more stable and quicker

Dislikes:

-Kicking takes Stamina (reminds me when they did this to L4D)...brutal against a horde

-Thug arm XP exploit fixed

-All my weapons got nerfed!!! This one aggravates me the most as I had an Ultra Rare Exotic Mace with a flame Mod lvl 50 worth ~$9000 that did 980 +500 and +80 for fire dmg...its now worth ~$4000 and does 490 +500 +60 fire dmg...seriously, wtf!

-Dupe trick, however the MP dupe trick still works as well as the drop stuff and blow yourself up method still works

-Ultra Rare Items cost and arm and a leg.. I found a lvl 51 ultra rare rifle on sale for a mere $325,000

That's just my two cents. Overall I'm happy with the patch, hopefully now the DLC's for this game will start dropping soon.

Cheers

Edit: Just went to Svetlana to give her Champage for Diamonds and it gives you 1000xp for every bottle you give her. Just got to lvl 51 from this...3341325 to get to Lvl 51...now it cost 3710976 to get to lvl 52...I'll need ~375 bottles to gain 1 more lvl!!!!!

Almost same here.

The fact the Infected only cost 1 bar of HP is such a relief.

For the chest thing, I know they said there will be rewards in every chest.

But no, I have got several chests in jungle with nothing inside.

Kicking stamina thing really kinda sucks, so is the thug arms.

Item cost is ridiculous. I saw a rifle priced at $135.5k and it is not so strong.

And I really like to fast looting. Save me a lot of time when looting bunches of lugguages.

==========

Finally, as many may think the Dup trick is gone, it is NOT.

They just try to fix it by not allowing you to drop weapons while you are preparing to throw (i.e. Hold LT/RT --> Hold Y won't do anyting).

For this trick to work with patch 1.3.0, you will have to "Throw the weapon while you are dropping it" instead of "Dropping the weapon while you are throwing".

In other words, hold Y and quickly hold RT then hit LT(Analog control). It requires perfect timing though.

Try to hold Y and wait for about 1/2 sec., then hold RT, then hit LT when you raise your hand to the top.(Again for Analog control)

The timing is HARSH. You may only dup once with like 30 trials(if you're good or lucky).

But the point is it still works, right?

==========

If you just want to keep yourself well-armed, it will do.

If you wanna make money out of it, you may want to just unplug your HDD.

BTW, any one find the item stat. is kinda wierd now?

I had a katana for Lv33, and just got one for Lv40.

But they are almost the same in everything. Lv33 is Tiring and Lv40 is Flimsy.

Mnwlkr is correct, I did the dupe trick after a dozen or so tries, its still possible to do but as he said the timing is rather strict which doesn't make this a viable source of income...that is if you are not able to master the new timing.

Awesome job figuring out the new timing, this could still come in useful for those super expensive weapons we've been seeing.

Cheers

Achievement fixed.

Duping no longer works with the LT, RT+Y

Exploiting exp with the Thug that does not fight back in the shack...no longer worked for me on Purna. No longer get strings of "Break's" for extra exp. Don't know about other chars. Also, the shack is no longer a save point. Used to be able to beat the Thug to death, then reload checkpoint and be back at the shack with a new Thug to beat up. Now you load back at the Lifeguard Shack.

YESSSS There and back again is fixed. I had alittle faith this would be fixed and just load a save and it popped.

I'm kinda annoyed at the new bug where throwing a weapon causes all of your equipped weapon to un-equip themselves.

This is really bugging me as I'm playing as Logan and have a load of throwing perks making him practically useless after throwing a single cleaver!

As for the dupe trick, I've managed to do it once the original way (don't know how) but, this caused the blade on the Machete to look like it had optic camo on :p I've not been able to reproduce it thus far and I'm having no luck with the "new" timing :(

EDIT: figured out the weapon un-equip issue. Seems that holding X to pick up an item to use instantly will now over-right the current inventory slot. As you throw your weapon each time, a new "available" weapon is cycled into your empty hands thus every time you hold X to pick up a thrown weapon, you're effectively "clearing" that slot once it's thrown again. Either way, I still prefer the original method of picking up my knife ¬__¬
