FAQ

What classes can I play as in Borderlands 2?

There is currently a total of 4 playable classes in Borderlands 2.

The first Axton. His main focus is with grenades/rocket launchers and his turret. He has multiple ways to support himself and his team with his turret and is currently the most durable character to play as.

Next is Maya, the siren. Her main focus is locking down enemies with Phaselock and dealing damage with elemental weapons. She has many ways to support her team mostly in the form of health regen and revives.

The next Vault Hunter is Zer0. His main focus is with sniping enemies from afar or in CQC with a sword. He can provide his team with extra damage and a decoy to confuse enemies with. This class is considered to have the least survivability.

The final one is Salvador. He has the ability to dual wield any two guns and regen health/Ammo while doing it. He can provide his team with constant ammo regeneration and extra firepower. While he is considered to be the "tank" of the game his survival is relatively low.

How can I access True Vault Hunter Mode?

TVHM can be accessed after defeating the final boss of the game. Once you have done so, go to the main menu and select your character again but pressing the :ybut:. You will get a promt asking which difficulty you wish to play on. You may swap between TVHM and normal mode at any time from the main menu.

What carries over into playthrough 2?

You will keep you Badass Rank, guns, level, skill points, map progress, and challenge progress. Note that if you are going for the "Did it all" achievement then you must do all side-quests in a single playthrough.

What is the difference between TVHM and Normal Mode?

Enemies will be much stronger this time around but will drop better loot and give more experience per kill. You will also be able to get high level versions of the quest rewards again.

How do I unlock playthrough 2.5?

Playthrough 2.5 is unlocked once you have beaten the final boss in TVHM. Once you have, all enemies in TVHM will scale to the current max level (50). This includes bosses.

How do I fight bosses again?

Once you have killed a boss you can fight them again at any time provided the quest linked to them is completed. All you need to do it simply reset your game by save/quitting and going back to the area you fought them in. This can be repeated as many time as you want.

What changes in playthrough 2.5?

All enemies will scale to the current max level (50) and all bosses will become two level higher than max level (52). All side-quest rewards that have not been claimed will also now scale to 50.

How can I increase the amount of bullets/guns I can hold?

Once you have reached Sanctuary and talk to the town's mechanic you will have access to the Black Market who is run by Earl. He will sell SDUs that increase capacity for all weapons/inventory at the cost of Eridium.

The cost for each SDU is increased by 4 each time you buy the same item and each item can only be bought a maximum of 5 times.

First Purchase - 4 Eridium

Second - 8

Third - 12

Fourth - 16

Final - 20

Total Cost - 60

I found an awesome item and want to trade it. Where can I do this?

Please use this thread for trading items.

How can I trade between characters?

Once you have entered Crimson Raiders HQ in Sanctuary there will be a side-quest that you can get from Claptrap to use his secret stash. The secret stash only has 4 spaces and cannot be increased but can be used as a bank shared between all characters.

Can I transfer money?

Money can only be traded between players and cannot be stored in the secret stash or the player's vault.

How do I get X achievement?

Please visit this thread for help on a specific achievement.

How can I tell what rarity my gun is?

All guns have a rarity attached to them and you can tell by looking at the color of the text. Guns run from White(common) to Orange(Legendary)

White - Common

Green - Uncommon

Blue - Rare

Purple - Epic

Pink - E-Tech

Orange - Legendary

When can I fight Terramorphous?

Terramorphous can be fought after getting the "You. Will. Die.(Seriously)

" side-quest which is available after defeating the final boss.

Where is he located?

He is located underneath Thousand Cuts. Enter the Slab's camp and take a right and go past the ammo machines. Now take a left and near the edge of the cliff there will be a walkway to go down. Simply follow that walkway until you reach an Eridian doorway. You will need to have the side-quest or have it completed in order to place the 4 Eridium on the pedestal to open the door.

Terramorphous is too hard for me. I need help.

Please use this thread when looking for help with Terramorphous.

What is a SHiFT code?

After you have set up a SHiFt account you will be able to enter a code that can be used to redeem in-game items. To redeem your code simply go to the "Extras" tab from the main menu and click "Enter Shift Code".

Where is the Golden Chest in Sanctuary?

You will find the chest in the same room as the fast travel station.

What can I get from this chest?

Gun, Relics, and Class Mods. The items you recieve from the box will always be Epic or E-Tech with the exception that you can get Rare Relics.

How do I get more Golden Keys?

You get one Golden Key for being in the Premium Club and another for signing up for SHiFT. The only way to get more keys currently is from SHiFT codes which are tweeted over on the Gearbox Twitter.

Why do I throw my gun when I reload?

Check the brand which is located in corner of the description of your gun. All weapons made by "Tediore" are thrown when reloaded for extra damage.

I have all of the challenges but the achievement won't pop up.

You might be missing a secret challenge that you have not yet unlocked. Check here for a full list of all required challenges including the secret ones.

Why is this side-quest blocked?

Some side-quests are blocked when the person you turn the quest into is currently unavailable. If this happens you just need to continue the story and you will be able to finish it at a later time.

Where is Jimmy Jenkins?

Jimmy Jenkins is a very rare spawn and can be difficult to find.

F8L Fool wrote a guide to help increase your chance of finding him.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/borderlands-2/173785-how-find-jimmy-jenkins.html

My stats say I have 7/5 in a skill. Am I getting an added bonus?

Yes you will still get a bonus. If your skill increase gun damage by 10% per rank then you will have 70% gun damage with the added boost. You can see how much your class mod is boosting your skill by looking at the light blue text next to the skill.

I put on a class mod that increases a skill but I am not getting a bonus.

You must have at least one skill point in the skill that the class mod boosts in order to take advantage of it.

Why can't I drop this item in my inventory?

Some items cannot be dropped such as the Vault Hunter Relic while quest related items cannot be dropped or sold.

What is Badass Rank?

See this post for a full description on Badass Rank.

Bandits

Psychos

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/9/9c/Psycho.png/300px-Psycho.png

Weakness - Fire

Resistant - Caustic

Wears Shields? - Sometimes

Psychos are the grunts of the bandit army and their only tactic is to run at with either a hatchet or a primed grenade. As with all human targets their critical spot is their head and may wear shields to protect themselves. When playing on TVHM there will be a large increase in suicide psychos and as a new addition, armored psychos. One major change in BL2 is that Psychos can no longer be outrun by simply backpedaling.

Special Variants

Burning Psycho

Same as the regular ones but throws fires instead of hatchets and loses his weakness to fire.

Armored Psychos

These are the same as normal Psychos but their weakness/resistance values are swapped and can take a lot more punishment. These only appear in TVHM.

Gravedigger

These guys are a little different from the normal psychos. They will throw acid at you and always wear a shield. They also hit very hard with their melee.

Suicide Psychos

These guys act like all of the others but rather than trying to melee you they will run at you with primed grenades. Take them out quickly and watch out for the grenade after they are killed as it will still go off and in TVHM will put you in FFYL with nothing left to shoot at.

Nomads

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/0/09/Nomad.png/300px-Nomad.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Wears Shields? - Sometimes

Nomads are humans that like to carry around large metal shields that completely block bullet damage from the front and sometimes strap midgets to them. Dealing with a Nomad's shield can be difficult if playing solo for some classes as they will only open themselves up for attack when shouting orders to their fellow bandits.

Maya's Phaselock can render their shield useless for a short time while Axton's turret can completely ignore the shield and shoot right through it. Zero can also use his Deception ability to get behind them., however Salvador's only method is to either wait for an opening or get up close to they melee with their shield to create an opening.

Special Variants

Riot Shield

This is most common variant that is seen when fighting nomads. They will use a shield that will block all damage in front of them and sometimes will chain midgets that will attack him if released. All riot shield nomads that have midgets will have a hole in the middle of the shield.

Pyro Nomad

Never uses a shield but attack with a flamethrower and loses his weakness to fire based attacks.

Shock Nomad

Never uses a shield and attacks with a shock cannon and is resistant to shock based attacks.

Heavy Nomad

Never uses a shield but uses a rocket launcher that can easily down you in seconds from long range.

Marauders

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/f/f2/Marauder.png/300px-Marauder.png

Weakness - Fire

Resistant - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Most of the time

Marauders are not much of a fight. They all use the same tactic and fairly weak when it comes to the damage they deal. However watch out for the ones using shotguns are it will hurt you are in CQC with them

There are no special variants of this enemy outside of some using a shotgun rather than an assault rifle.

Goliaths

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/e/e5/Goliath.png/300px-Goliath.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Rarely

As long as you don't knock their helmet off then Goliaths are just bigger versions of Marauders and pose no real threat. If you do knock their helmet off they will chase the closing thing to them (friend or foe) and start to melee. Goliaths will level up whenever they get a kill and will increase their health and damage. Just like players, when a Goliath levels up it will regain all of its lost health.

Special Variants

Juggernaut

Doesn't wear a helmet and can't be set into rage mode. Always fights with dual shotguns.

One-Armed Bandit

Same as a Juggernaut but attack with one gun but has a lot more health and always carries a slot machine on his back.

Heavy Goliath

Knocked the helmets off of these guys is highly recommended since their rocket launchers can down you in a single shot if they both hit.

Rats

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/8/8b/Rat.png/300px-Rat.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Most of the time

Rats are like Marauders but are much more agile and accurate. They also have a lot more variants that can make them extra deadly.

Special Variants

Rat Thief

Very weak enemy who only special ability is to steal money from you can run away with it.

Lab Rat

This is the most durable out of all of the rats and has a very deadly eyebeam attack if you get close enough. If you are not in range for them to hit you with their beams they will just slowly walk to you and throws axes.

Plague Rat

Acts similar to a Psycho in that it will run up to you and melee you with its poison claws or throw caustic attacks at you.

Tunnel Rat

Low Health/Damage but runs around the map picking up items.

Field Rat

Medium Health/Damage attacks with an Assault Rifle.

Hyperion

Surveyors

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/d/d1/Surveyor.png/300px-Surveyor.png

Weakness - Caustic

Resist - Fire

Uses Shields? - Always

Surveyors are small ships that almost always accompany Loaders. They fly around the map shooting shock balls at you and will come to the aid of any Loader to give it Shields/Health

Special Variants

Shield/Repair Surveyor

Depending the name they will either repair loaders armor and limbs or give them constant shields.

Loaders

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/2/25/Loader.png/300px-Loader.png

Weakness - Caustic

Resist - Fire

Uses Shields? - Never

Loaders are the most common enemy that Hyperion will send at you and have a wide variety of variants.

Special Variants

Gun Loader

Standard enemy, shoots with assault rifle and throws grenades.

EXP Loader

Literal suicide bomber. They will run at you and explode if they get close. These will still explode even if killed so be careful of how close you are to them when firing.

Bul Loader

Protects himself with a giant shield and will try to ran himself into you with his shield. Shield will block all damage however his arm holding it can be shot off.

War Loader

Stronger Version of the Gun Loader. Uses two sets of guns so he cannot throw grenades. Can also launch missiles.

HOT Loader

Shoots fireballs and flamethrowers at you and will explode when killed.

JET Loader

Same as Gun Loader but then fly into the air to get around.

RPG Loader

Shoots rockets and will throw grenades. Has above average health compared to most.

PWR Loader

Walks at you slowly with spinning blades that will deflect bullets back at you. Shoot their legs to stop them then shoot their eye for a critical.

ION Loader

Creates a protective one-way shield for other Loaders to use as cover. You will need to either wait for the shield to drop or go inside to hit the Loader as the shield will deflect all damage and grenades will bounce off. The ION Loader will also use a short range shock attack against anyone inside the shield.

SGT Loader

Advanced version of Gun Loader. Uses shotguns and has very high health. Arms cannot be shot off.

Angelic Guard

Very high health and attack with a beam will deal high damage. Arms cannot be shot off.

Boss Fight Guides

http://i.imgur.com/LYrhy.png

Weakness - None

Resist - None

Uses Shields? - Given by Surveyors

Wilhelm will be the first "Boss" that you encounter in the story during the "Catch a Train" mission and this can be seen by the large health bar that is displayed at the top of the screen. While throughout the story he is hyped up to be some strong person that Jack sends when failure isn't an option he is actually a pushover and won't be much trouble for any class.

When he first spawns in he will summon multiple Surveyors that will attempt to repair his shields making it difficult to hurt him. Make sure that these are your top priority when fighting him. It seems he can up to 4 Surveyors at any given time.

His next ability will be to run up to you and do a whirlwind style attack that will deal medium damage and knocking you back a good distance. If you see him charging at you simple turn around and run away and you will not be hit by this attack.

Throughout the fight he will also summon Gun, War, EXP, Loaders. It seems best to just ignore these since he will just summon them again if you kill them.

Overall he is an introductory boss fight with no real special attacks and won't be any trouble and probably leave you thinking "THAT was Wilhelm?"

Weakness - Caustic

Resist - Fire

Uses Shields? - No

The BNK-3R is the third "boss" you will encounter in the story during the "Where Angels Fear to Tread" mission. While the BNK-3R may not do a lot of damage he does have quite a bit of health compared to Wilhelm and may take a bit longer to kill.

To start off, BNK-3R will always be flying in the air so melee is pretty much out. He will also spawn Bull, Gun, HOT, EXP Loaders during the fight which makes it very easy to get seconds winds should you go down at all.

His main attack to be hovering near one of the sides and shooting his auto-cannons at you. These deal very little damage and have no health at all but do cover up his critical areas so taking them out will be in your favor. Whenever you deal enough damage to cause him to stop shooting he will fly away and activate "Laser Countermeasures" which will cause lasers to sweep the floor. Best way to dodge these is to just jump on top of the boxes or go up the stairs.

While he is flying around he will also shoot out proxy mines that are very easy to see. They look like a standard mine covered in a red aura. Walking into the aura will cause it to explode and deal a large amount of damage.

After awhile of repeating these phases he will hover near the side but in a different position and will start to shoot his main cannon. It is best to take cover while he is doing this as it can deal significant damage when combined with the Loaders that will be shooting at you.

All in all it is a fairly simple fight. Kills Loaders as they spawn, take out Auto-Cannons, and avoid the mines/lasers and you will have him down in no time.

http://i.imgur.com/Kmyw2.png

Weakness - None

Resist - Fire

Uses Shields? - No

Special Effect - Takes reduced damage from all sources.

Warrior will be the final boss that you fight during the main story and can be quite tough if you don't know what to do.

At the start of the fight Rakk and Crytalisks will constantly be spawning so do not put much attention towards them because they will never stop coming. Also there are ammo containers that you need to activate that can be used every 90 seconds.

Warrior has quite a few abilities that he will cycle through and if you fighting him for the first time then you be able to hear Jack tell you what he going to do.

He first attack involves slamming the ground in front of him which will create a massive shockwave. The farther away you from him the less damage this attack will deal. His next is the exact opposite, he will slam the ground that is on the other side of him with his tail and the closer to him you are the less damage you will take. Both of these are easy to see with him raising his upper body and turning to his side respectively.

For his next attack he will attempt to Slag you by charging up his tail and shooting a beam that follows you. If you are hit by this you will take double damage for a short period of time. This attack can go through walls.

Next he will attempt to walk over you by just walking him one side to the other, dealing damage if you are in the middle. If you see him start to do this then get to the sides as fast as you can.

His final two attacks including breathing fire at a random location of the map and climbing on a statue to throw a rock at you. Both of these attacks can be dodge by putting something between you and him.

Now as far as damaging him goes he has four weak spots. The first being his mouth which he takes the most damage from and the others being his chest and sides, both of which are covered by rocks which must be broken to deal critical damage. If you manage to deal enough damage to him in a short amount of time he will go back under the lava and it will start to rise up closer to the center.

He is not to tough of a fight but can be mildly annoying especially on TVHM. Just watch out for which area of the map he is slamming and don't stand in fire.

Human Infantry

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/d/d8/Engineer.png/300px-Engineer.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Most of the time

Unlike the Loaders these guys are have very low health but can deal high damage if left alone.

Special Variants

Hyperion Engineer

Probably the weakest enemy in the Hyperion army.

Hyperion Solider

Wears armor so his weakness/resist are swapped and can deploy turrets. The turrets deployed are actually stronger than him so make sure to take them out quickly.

Hyperion Sniper

Very high damage enemy that will enrage from almost any range as long as he has line of sight on you. He will always wear strong shields but has very little health so shock weapons work best.

Hyperion Infiltrator

Basically a CQC version of the sniper. Uses a tactical cloak which will make him immune from being targeted by turrets and aim-assist will not help you shoot him. Always wears high capacity shields.

Hyperion Heavy

These guys hardly have enough health to register a health bar but have extremely high damage output with their launchers. These should be your first priority.

Constructor

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/6/61/Constructor.png/300px-Constructor.png

Weaknss - Caustic

Resist - Fire - Immune to status effects

Uses Shields? - Never

These are the biggest and toughest enemies in the Hyperion army and are no pushover. They can launch rockets and spawn up to 12 extra units to help fight for them. They can digi-struct any non-humanoid enemy from the Hyperion army to fight for them.

They can also launch missiles and will do a large explosive attack if anyone gets into melee range. This enemy has no special variant however the Badass and Super Badass versions can shoot Nukes that will instantly down you if it hits you and will always come with auto turrets attached to it.

Wildlife

Stalkers

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/4/4b/Stalker.png/300px-Stalker.png

Weakness - Shock

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Always

Stalkers are annoying creatures they jump in and out of cloak and try to take cheap shots at you. They only open themselves up for attack when they are attacking and their cloak can be disabled once their shields are down.

Special Variants

Rabid Stalker

Jumps on top of you and tries to bite you. In TVHM they will always be caustic based.

Cyclone Stalker

Similar to the rabid ones but does a whirlwind style attack and is loses his weakness to shock.

Needle Stalker

Launches spikes that will explode for average damage after a short period.

Varkid

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/2/2a/Varkid.png/300px-Varkid.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Never

Varkid are small little bugs that can either melee you or fly in the air and spit caustic slime at you. If there are multiple Varkid around then they will try and run away and pod up to grow into larger versions which have the same attack style but have more health/damage.

There are no special variants but they do get much stronger with each morph.

Varkid

Badass Varkid

Super Badass Varkid

Ultimate Badass Varkid

Supreme Badass Varkid

Vermivorous the Invincible

Rakk

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/e/e3/Rakk.png/300px-Rakk.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Never

These annoying little things just fly around and then dive bomb into from a random direction. There are no special variants and they have next to no health but they are annoying and always come in large packs.

Crystalisk

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/f/f9/Crystalisk.png/300px-Crystalisk.png

Weakness - Melee

Resist - Fire/Shock/Caustic/Slag/Explosive

Uses Shields? - Never

Crytalisks are slow moving creatures that either shoot exploding projectiles or do a ground pound attack if you are close. Their weak spot is the crystals on their legs however they will absorb all elements.

Bullymongs

http://i.imgur.com/hA4TG.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields - Never

Bullymongs are fairly basic enemies and don't have any real strengths. Their main attack is to just jump at you and melee or throw rocks if you are out of range.

Special Variant

Demonmong

The only special variant is the Demonmong and it is only found when playing TVHM in Eridium Blight. These guys attack with fire melee and fire novas and as such, lose their weakness to fire.

Spiderant

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/0/0d/Spiderant.png/300px-Spiderant.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Never

Spiderants are large creatures that will shoot webs and roll into you. Their front is reinforced when heavy armor but their back is exposed for critical damage.

Special Variants

Elemental Variant

Same as a regular spiderant but will have a random element and will be highly resistant to it.

Spiderant Queen

While her attack style is exactly the same as all other spiderants she will spawn more if she is left alone.

Skag

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/8/8f/Skag.png/300px-Skag.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Never

Skags are a little bit stronger this time around than they were in the first game but still have the same weakness of being shot in the mouth.

Special Variants

Elemental Variant

Same as a normal thresher but will have the stated element and become resistant to it.

Spitter Skag

This skag will shoot caustuc balls at you that will deal average damage. Since it has to open its mouth to spit, getting a critical won't be very hard.

Barf Skag

This one is similar to the spitter only it will try to get up close to throw up on who and it will deal massive damage.

Rabid Skag

A very fast skag that will attack relentlessly and can be difficult to shoot if he gets close since your aim will get kicked up every time he hits you.

Alpha Skag

Larger, stronger, faster version of the normal skag.

Thresher

http://www.bl2wiki.com/images/thumb/8/8a/Thresher.png/300px-Thresher.png

Weakness - Fire

Resist - Caustic

Uses Shields? - Never

Threshers are worm-like creatures that come up from the ground and attack with either their tentacles or shooting spikes at you.

Special Variants

Elemental Variant

Same as a normal thresher but will have the stated element and become resistant to it.

Wormhole Thresher

These will pop out of the ground will attempt to suck you into their spiked body to deal massive damage. These need to be killed the moment they show up.

Grouper Thresher

This thresher will always attack with his many tentacles and is highly susceptible to attacks that hit multiple targets since shooting his tentacles will also hurt him.

Awesome guide as usual Bahroo. I look forward to seeing it's completion. :)

Thanks. I hope to have this mostly done in a few days. I updated the company names and looking for an opinion on how those look. Sadly, Eridian, Anshin, and Pangolin don't have any high quality logos so I will need to find a way around that.

Great guide, sadly i cant open google docs from my end :(

anyway i have a blue gun that i think is rare. Not sure if i got it from a quest but its a pistol that has 3000% damage. and its corrosive, beating the last part of the game was easy due to this weapon.

Im not home right now so i cant see the item itself but it has some sort of 1970's related description. +50% love, +3000% damage, clip size=1970, reload 0.1. the gun looks like a nerf gun to me due to its color.

maybe you can add a "Blue Unique" item category? the ones with a red font descriptions on it like the Bane

I agree. The logos look fantastic. Maybe you could consider adding pics for all of the outfits and heads? I know that's a tremendous undertaking. So it's no big deal if it can't be done. The wiki is slowly getting some updates with screenshots. I've acquired the majority of them for Zero (my main.) But I'd like to see the other characters skins too. That way I'll be able to decide if I want to grind them or not.

Here's what the wiki has so far:

That's completely understandable. Don't strain yourself. I pretty much know where the ones I'm missing come from at this point. After seeing some of the screens available on the pages I linked, I really doubt I'll go to the dozens of hours of trouble grinding them for all the characters. I'm just going to get Zero to 100% and be happy with that. :p

I do wonder if Gaige will get a ton of customization options available when she launches later this month. It would be great if she came with a bunch of them already unlocked. That probably won't be the case though. I'm just glad my gamer OCD is being contained to completing one character in this game. That scale the radio tower challenge in Thousand Cuts made me crazy. Even more so when my friend joined my game yesterday and did it on his first try. lol

I'm with you on this. I'm also going for 100% with Zero and am pretty happy with keeping my OCD in check as well and leaving it at that. I considered going for everything with all of the characters but it's just unrealistic. Farming bosses is one thing but I don't think I have that many playthroughs in me or the desire to find people to trade that much stuff with.

Good start to the guide!
