ZombieLover84
As we all know, some peoples save filed are getting corrupted. Thanks to members on the gamefaqs message board, we may know WHY this happens. They have been able to recreate the file corruption when a character has more than 175 items in thier inventory. Of course that includes equipment, crafting items, blueprints collectibles and anything that takes up a slot. Note that things like id cards or a stack of bleach would count as one item. So for those out there, do not cross over having 175 item slots. They have been able to recreate the corruption everytime they go past 175. On PS3 and 360. Also they noted that sometimes they had to load a file two or three times before it became corrupted, but that it always did corrupt. Just a heads up till this gets patched. TigerII
Mine freeze when an escort character dies. When I press start to reload checkpoint, the game freezes, and the save is corrupted.
ofay
I had more than that in just oleander for dozens of saves with no problem. Then this weekend I froze, so this may contribute to the cause but is not a definite cause
rickr304
If you think about it, this explanation makes sense without having to do any testing. What does everyone who is experiencing the loading bug have in common? They've progressed far into the game. I don't think I've ever seen someone say "Man, I've been playing this game for an hour, and my save corrrupted!!" It's only after people have played for 30/40/50 hours. Since we can't narrow it down to a specific quest, we have to look elsewhere for an explanation. What's the most obvious difference between a three hour save and a forty hour save? Craploads of items. Will having a smaller inventory guarantee never encountering this loading bug? Maybe not. But could it help? I really think so. After all, the email DeReZZd received from Deep Silver at least partially confirmed this. A lot of players at the moment are (ab)using a glitch in the game to duplicate items. By doing so you have a good chance to ruin your save game because you might exceed an 'invisible' limit for some craft items. We are not 100% sure about this, but too many craft parts of some sort in the inventory could trigger the bug (even if you haven't been duplicating). Another theory claims that it might be the number of different/unique inventory items and not the total number of each or a combination of both, we are still working on it. I intend to regularly clean up my inventory just in case. And I suggest you guys do the same. I also will still keep saving to a USB as backup. Because you never know with this game. I also wanted to mention that while they were testing this, sometimes it took three to four autosaves and loads before the files corrupted. Even when they reached say 230 items. But again it was confirmed EVERY TIME that the file would corrupt at some point. This is verified on the PS3 as well so to me the corruption HAS to be coming from the item limit since it's been tested on both consoles.

Also as mentioned above, sometimes it takes multiple loads for the file to become corrupted, so indeed you may have exceeded the limit and didn't see the effect till the weekend. xOhNoes11
Pretty sure I've had more than 175 items at one point or another. But damn at least I made it through the game without a hitch. Must mean I travel light.
Necrophage33
Pretty sure I've had more than 175 items at one point or another. But damn at least I made it through the game without a hitch. Must mean I travel light. Same here. Most oleander I ever bought at once, just to be safe, was $400k. So if each oleander costs $115, and you can hold 30 in a slot, that's 115 slots. Then 18 weapons, plus all of the other miscellaneous items... I had to be pretty damn close to 175! Guess I just got lucky. I had two friends get corrupted saves cause of buying too much oleander. I recommended they buy no more than $400k worth, just cause that's what I did and I had no issues, but they may have bought slightly more, and had more miscellaneous items. Although, I had a friend whose game locked up before he did any oleander glitching. We were just playing naturally, and had just gotten to the labs. Using my example above of how much oleander I bought, it seems extremely unlikely he could've exceeded the 175 slot limit without doing any duplicating, and by just playing naturally. Logically it makes complete sense for too much inventory to cause a problem. I don't understand why they didn't program in a limit, even if it was pretty high. I highly doubt it would've inconvenienced anyone playing naturally, not duplicating or buying excessively.
axeuup
my first freeze most assuradly did not have too many items. my 2nd did. i have definently noticed that a high percentage of the freezers seem to have an over abundance of items but this is not the entire explanation for the freeze issues. i honestly dont really care what the reason is, all i care about is that they fix it. i should be able to carry as many things in my inventory as the game allows. TigerII
You might have had more than 175 items without realizing it. The first times yes, but then I created a new save from the furthest chapters. Twice I had below 20 items and it froze on that screen. For me, having an escort character die is the same as the old days when there were no saves. You had to start at the beginning. Anyways, I've lost too many saves, I'm done with this game until this is fixed.

Silverbolt00
There's definitely something more than just inventory item crashes going on that messes up the game and corrupts save files. I'm lvl 40 Xian in Act III and didn't have half the ammount of what is stated in this thread (I counted this morning) and tonight i can't load up as my game now crashes. I was at the Lab where thing's have gone bad and you have to get back there in a hurry .... I even made a back up of a slightly earlier save but even that will not load so even though that save is at an earlier level (39 i think) the game still wont have it constantly crashes and i ain't starting all over again so i hope they fix this quick sharp! Even if they fix it, it seems highly unlikely to me that your save files will suddenly start working again. I guess it depends on what the problem is exactly, but it seems like it'll be a preventative measure to prevent future recurrence, not something to correct problems that have already occurred. Silverbolt00
Well, you're probably right but one can hope. I just think it's pretty unfair and shitty if everyone who's had their game crash and not be able to go back into it because of a bug after putting in 10-15 hrs+ that happens because of the game trying to load then they should damn well fix it or shouldn't be putting out a game that has game breakers still in it. (I know, it's not just this game that has those) Anyway, this is for another thread .... lol
Boss Frogger Sajeon
I've noticed that the game seems to freeze when you load your last checkpoint.. whether that means you hit start and load it, or your survivor dies and you choose to load instead of quit. I've had two of my saves get corrupted now, and both times I was trying to load the last checkpoint. One, survivor died, two, I was lost as hell and couldn't figure out how to get out of some place.. I'm also positive that my inventory slots were well below even 100 the 2nd time.
Tapion
It happened to me twice. First time yes i duped alot. So if it is the problem than yeah screwed myself. Second time just played the game got to the lab. Someone joined my game and the thing froze turned it off and back on. And loading freeze yay. axeuup
the OP title claims are incorrect. there is no one answer. my first freeze i was loading up my own game not co-op and it froze and i had well below the number of inventory items that the op claims, as if fact, cause the freeze. it does not matter why it freezes. fix your broken game so that we can play it without BS like the freeze happening to us. three weeks and counting, no fix.
