JonnyC VT
This is a pretty random post from me but our community is pretty informative & reliable, so I'll inquire here first... My question is geared to people that record any type of music and upload their songs to the net. I use a Macintosh and would appreciate any Mac (or PC) user's response. I've been playing guitar for a couple years, as well as banjo for the past year, and I'm really passionate about writing and playing my own music. I've got a Mac laptop computer that I've recently been using to record some of my songs with the 'Garage Band' application. I know Garage Band isn't the greatest out there, but I'm just learning it and will move on to something else soon (I've used much better programs at friends houses, so I know what works). Anyways, I've been steadily completing songs whether they be Rock, Acoustic, Country, Rap, Metal, Bluegrass and more. Most of my stuff is serious, but I also write many comical songs as well. When I complete a song in Garage Band, I export it to iTunes where it can be played as a full MP3 file. This file also is on my computer as well. I've been getting lots of requests from friends to let them hear my stuff but I don't really know the best way of doing this. I noticed some of you guys have your own bands and uploaded your songs to myspace, so I'm sure you may be able to help. Is there a website I can upload my MP3's to and share the link from there, or even the file? Should I rather put them up on myspace? What should I do, what's the best thing to do to upload and share your work? I'm wanting some friends to hear, and I want to let the community here experience them too since I've got some funny ones that need hearin! Someone help... Love, Jon
Im a Manatee
If you're just sending it to some friends, you could create an archive with 7-zip and send it to them via email or one of the numerous uploading domains on the net. I use Fileden, but Microsoft just started one called sky that I hear is very fast, but you're running OS X, so that is null and moot.
JonnyC VT
If you're just sending it to some friends, you could create an archive with 7-zip and send it to them via email or one of the numerous uploading domains on the net. I'm really new at this, so bear with me. 7-zip...what is this? Is it a website (7-zip.com) or something else? As far as uploading domains, you said Fileden...When I go there to upload, I'm sure I must register first, after that, what kinda steps do I take? I'm assuming I have to browse my files from my computer and chose the ones I want to upload. From that point, when their uploaded, how do people hear them? Do they click on them and they play, or do they only see the physical file and have to download it? I'm sorry for the ignorance, but I'm really...well, ignorant. Im a Manatee
After you register on a site like fileden, there is an upload button towards the top of the page. Find the file with the browse button, and then click upload. You could send the link to friends, and they would download and listen after unpacking the file with their own 7-zip. 7-zip is a compression utility, like Winzip or Winrar. When you download and install it, you'd lasso some files and create a compression archive to your desktop.
