72/72 Locations Guide and FAQ

Hopefully this guide and FAQ will cut down on the amount of redundant posts in the 71/72 discussion thread, since no single source of information is readily available without reading through all 25 pages of that thread. I will hopefully/eventually add maps with the locations pointed out when I find some blank maps I can use. Maybe videos if I can't find maps. Until then, words will have to suffice.

The guide is now complete. Anything I may have missed or have incorrect, or any FAQs you feel should be added, don't hesitate to post them and I'll add it immediately.

1. Important information you need to know

- There are only 71 actual locations in the game. The gas station in Moresby counts twice (after the patch). To get it to count twice, once you've been to the gas station and it has counted once, quit out (Start, Y), return to the dashboard, and then reload your game. Your achievement tracker will have gone up by one location.

NOTE: As of patch 1.3.0 on 11/10/11, the 72/72 glitch has been patched. If you have 72/72, load up the save file and you'll get the achievement.

- You need 57 locations before going to the prison. There are 15 locations at the prison that can all be found by doing all of the quests. It's relatively linear, and there are no "hidden" side quests. Do all of the quests the prisoners give you and you'll find every location in the prison.

- I've listed a lot of locations below as "Unmissable." Obviously this is assuming that YOU do the quests and complete the story. Don't let co-op partners run through quests without you while you're busy messing around, looting, or killing zombies. I can't stress this enough. Missing one location will be a huge pain later when you have to check every location again.

- Green on your maps means you haven't explored there yet. As a point of reference, when you've gotten all of the locations in Moresby, there should be NO green left anywhere in the city, and the west and south coasts will not be green. There WILL still be quite a bit of green left on the Jungle map, and some on the Resort map. These two maps have much fewer locations, all of which are pretty straightforward, so follow the guide below to check them.

- The locations are color coded in the following way:

1) Locations that are unmissable, even when playing in co-op, because you're forced to go there to resume the quest.

2) Locations that are unmissable by simply playing through the story quests (i.e. not letting someone play through quests while you sit idle)

3) Locations that are unmissable if you play through every side quest (again, not letting someone else play them while you sit idle)

4) Locations that require extraneous exploration

2. Location Lists

Resort

1. Golden Beach - You will go through here on your way to the Lifeguard Tower.

2. Hotel Bungalows - Your story quest marker will take you through this location on your way to the hotel. These are on the south side of the Hotel.

3. Golden District - You will go through here during the first Lighthouse story and side quests.

4. Silver District - You will go through here during the first Lighthouse story and side quests.

5. Diamond Beach - North east corner of the beach. The Resort Bunker 2 fast travel location is on Diamond Beach

6. Diamond District - These are the bungalows east of the Resort Bunker 2 fast travel location. The side quest "Family Matters" will take you here.

7. Lighthouse Gas Station - This is the first gas station you go to, when getting a can of gas for Mike at the lifeguard tower. You will also get your first box of juicepacks here.

8. Hotel - Unmissable. The story will take you here.

9. Old Marina Workshop - Unmissable. The story will take you here. This is where the mechanic works on your truck.

10. Old Marina - Unmissable. The story will take you here. This is the area surrounding the workshop above.

14. Pool - The story will take you here.

16. Control Room - The story will take you here. This is where you talk to Mike Davis.

17. Server Room - The story will take you through here. Just make sure you don't let your co-op partners run in and reboot all the servers without you.

18. Parking Garage - The story will take you through here. Just make sure you don't let a co-op partner run in and get in the truck (which initiates the cutscene and ends the Hotel area) before you enter the parking garage at the end of the Hotel map.

19. Church - Unmissable. The story will take you here.

20. Graveyard - Just outside of the church is an obvious graveyard.

21. Victory Hill - Southeast of the church/graveyard, in the northeast corner of the map. You'll pass this on your way from the Church to the Warehouse when doing the quest to hang posters.

This is in the northwestern area of the map.

26. Gas Station - Unmissable. The story will take you here. **See Section 1 about counting this location twice.

27. Canal Street - Not far north of the gas station, running through the quarantine zone. The Third Head of Cerberus side quest will take you here.

The following quests will take you through quite a bit of the city: "Message to the Masses," "The First/Second/Third Head of Cerberus," "Last Chance On The Wall," and "A Voice From the Sky." Also, there is a quest given you to by a man in the south west section of the city where he tells you his daughter has been kidnapped and asks you to rescue her. 3. FAQs

Q: How many locations do I need before I go to the prison?

A: 57

Q: I read that some people only needed 56 before going to the prison. Is this true?

A: No. It was a glitch/luck. Do not rely on this. Make sure you have all 57 before heading to the prison.

Q: I have 56/57 and have looked everywhere but can't find that last location! Help!

A: Assuming you've already been to the Moresby Gas Station, which you will go to as part of the Chapter 15 story quests, quit your game, exit to dashboard, and reload your game. You counter should now be at 57.

Q: I tried quitting out but I'm still stuck at 56 locations. Help!

A: Then you've already been to the Moresby Gas Station and have had it count the second time. You missed a location somewhere!

Q: What are the most commonly missed locations?

A: The south-southwestern waterfront in Moresby is a very common one, as well as the warehouse north of it which is caged in. Also check the Overpass Camp in the Jungle (See Section 2)

Q: I've checked the commonly missed locations but they weren't my last one. Any suggestions?

A: Have you played co-op? If so, it's possible your co-op partners completed a quest for the team by going to a location, and you didn't end up going because they completed the quest for you. This is common in the Hotel Parking Lot in the Hotel and the Chief's Office in the Police Station. Go back to each location and make sure you got them.

Q: I tried all of that, but still no luck. Now what?

A: Either follow Section 2 and check every single location again, or finish the Prison, start a New Game +, and do EVERY side quest YOURSELF.

Q: Will completing every story quest take me to all side quests, and in turn all locations?

A: NO! The story quests and side quests will not take you near the Overpass Camp in the North-Northwestern Jungle. There is a camp up there with multiple side quests, one of which will take you to the Jungle Village, another location that other side quests will not take you to. Also, the Southwestern Waterfront in Moresby is a location that no quest or side quest will take you to.

Q: Is there any information on when a patch will be released to help those that are stuck at 72/72 with no achievement?

A: Yes. Patch 1.3.0, released on 11/10/11 fixed this problem. You can now simply load your save file with 72/72, after downloading the update, and the achievement will unlock.

Q: Is it possible to still get glitched at 72/72 without an achievement?

A: No, after downloading update 1.3.0. This will unlock the achievement for anyone already stuck at 72/72, and will prevent future players from being stuck at 72/72 with no achievement.

So are these correct? Im suppose to have 18 before the city, then 45 before the jungle and then 57 before the prison. If so, im gonna use this to check before I go into each location to make sure I know which ones im missing before I move on...

Haha yes they are correct. And yes those are the tallies you can double-check on before you move onto the next act. Just remember you're only gonna have 44 after Act II, and then you'll need to quit out and reload to get to 45.

Looks really good! 5 stars

I would add that any area that's green on the map hasn't been explored (yeah it's a no brainer but still) and that only the jungle will have green left on the map after you've explored everywhere

Thanks man. The Resort still has some green in the middle doesn't it? Anyway I added that to Section 1 for a point of reference.

I am torn. I love this guide as much as I find it bloody irritating. It is very helpful, but would have been more so if you kept to a standard layout. By this I am referring to the fact that sometimes you say unmissable, sometime you say "the main quest will take you there," etc.

I do like it, but it makes it hard to decipher what I might or might not be missing. Colour codes would be slightly more helpful.

I was torn between when to use "unmissable" as well, because it shouldn't be missable, but I guess a lot of them could be, if you just sit idle and let someone else do the quests for you.

Wasn't it stated that it's unmissable if you do the quest but can be missed it a co op partner does it while you stand at a base, ie lighthouse, but for the main missions you have to have the whole party there

I can figure it out, but I think the guide could be made a bit more useful and obvious, that's all.

I'm not sure how I can make it more useful, since all of the locations are clearly there, along with a bunch of other info, but I can try to make it more user-friendly. How about this: I color code locations to distinguish between 1) locations that you can't miss, no matter what, because even in co-op you're forced to go there to proceed, 2) locations that you won't miss as long as you follow the story quests, 3) locations that you won't miss as long as you do all of the side quests, and 4) locations that require extraneous exploration.

Will that subdue your bloody irritation? Then I'll just take out the "unmissable" in the descriptions.

Ok I've color-coded all of the locations. I'll edit the text for each one when I get a chance. If I have any colors wrong, please let me know, along with justification. I worked completely off my memory from playing these quests at least a week ago. I have a pretty good memory, but any corrections are welcome. The main one I wasn't sure about was whether or not all party members need to be present when you talk to Mike Davis in the Security Room in the Hotel? I couldn't remember if it was possible for a single person to play through the entire hotel or not.

You all have to be present to talk to him but a single person can go do the sub quest he gives you while the other person waits with him

[spoiler=obvious]everyone has to be together to get into the hotel, get the elevator to open and get into the garage. I don't think it allows fast traveling so the only area you could miss is the server room which I don't think is a location

Ok thanks I'll update it accordingly. The server room is definitely a location. And you don't have to all be present to get into the garage. It's just a door you hit X on to open, and then you run to the truck and press X to get in, which likewise doesn't require everyone being there. I've heard of a couple people missing the garage as a location because someone ran and jumped in the truck and ended the Hotel area before the rest of the people walked into the garage.

Could someone help me find the Jungle Village? I believe it is my last location as Overpass Village just unlocked #71. I do not know where the Jungle Waterfall Bunker is nor which Overpass Village quest takes me there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I just answered my own question and got the achievement!!!! For anyone who is having trouble, it is ESE of the Overpass Village (if you follow the east-west road east from the village it is no more than 150 m on the road slightly south.)

Thanks to all who created this guide! What an annoying achievement! and I didn't even get stuck with the 71/72 glitch like so many did. Nonetheless, I thank you and will try to find a few more exceptional items to 1000 this game. Some tough achievements for a great game.

You are a star. And apologies on my part for not factoring in the fact that multi-playing could screw location finding up. I know you said be careful, but it didn't really register as I had played mostly SP.

I was at 56 / 57 and the location I missed... the overpass camp. I was 100% sure I had explored there... and when I actually bothered to check my map there was a great big green area in the middle... stupid me.

Thanks for taking the feedback on board and thanks for your effort.

No problem, and thanks for the constructive criticism. The guide definitely looks better now as a result of your input.

Just wanted to add myself as one more dumbarse who forgot the boat location in Southern Moresby!!

Just got the achievement on NG+ after finishing with 71/72 locations!!! Went to that boat and BOOM! Achievement unlocked!! :woop::Bounce::woop:

Well it doesn't help that there is no reason whatsoever to go there, other than for the location. At least you're finally done.

This is awesome work!

If you get most of the locations through side quests, is there a list of sidequests to see if all of them have been found?

You mean a list of all possible side quests? I haven't seen one. There aren't really many "hidden" side quests in the game. In Moresby, they all come from the Church and Warehouse, with the exception of a few random people (3, that I can remember) that ask you for help when you pass by them/their apartments on the street. One is Alicia, ENE of the Warehouse; one is a man who asks you on street to go into his apartment and clear it out (can't remember where in the city he is, but you pass him while doing the poster-hanging quest); the third I can think of is the man who asks you to rescue his kidnapped daughter (I believe he's in the west/southwest area of the city).

In the Jungle, the commonly missed side quests are the ones in the Overpass Camp, since the rest of the quests don't take you there, and then the one given to you by a woman east of the Jungle Village who asks you to find 4 red skulls in the Ghost Town.
