Introduction:

Welcome to Riptide GP2 by Vector Unit. This game may bring back some nostalgia to the days of Waverunner 64. Similar games in style and gameplay. This game is not very hard or very time consuming just a small grind for money which buys you upgrades and new hydro jets.

Step 1: Play the game

You can go about this a few different ways but it ultimately comes down to two ways. Play naturally until you finish or can't go further, or start the grind very early on so that you can essentially plow through the game.

Either way you will ultimately want the Manta Hydro Jet, it is the best all around one in the game. Once it's fully upgraded you shouldn't have much trouble 3 starring most events.

Freestyles:

Freestyle events are timed events in which you attempt to earn points by doing different tricks. As you progress through the Freestyle Events attempting to 3 starts you will earn Stunt Novice as it becomes a score you need to obtain in order to earn 3 stars in the later events. You will also obtain Stunt Expert and Stunt Master on the way to 3 starring each Freestyle. In order to do well in these events I would advise unlocking several tricks of varying levels, as to keep your tricks fresh and make it easier to build up points.

Getting 3 stars in all Freestyle events will net you Tricky Racer

Races:

These are your par for the course get from point A to Point B races. 1st will get you 3 stars, 2nd will get you 2, and 3rd will get you 1. If you're struggling with these you can buy some upgrades for your hydro jet or you can save up and buy a better one.

Getting 3 stars in all Race events will earn you Pro Racer.

Elimination:

Similar to standard races, elimination events are about speed and getting those tight turns. The main difference being is whoever is currently last place is eliminated. If you're the 3rd to last alive you get 1 star, 2nd to last you get 2, and not being eliminated gets you 3.

Getting 3 stars in all elimination events will earn you Aggressive Racer

Hot Lap:

Hot lap events are when you are trying to beat a set time for one lap around a course. Each Hot Lap event has different time requirements for the different amount of stars. Really only use simple tricks that do not stall you when you land. Otherwise the boost you gain from that fancy trick will slow you down more than you gain. Also don't hit every ramp, as tempting as this is that extra air time is probably hurting you in the long run.

Getting 3 stars in all Hot Lap events will earn you Speedy Racer.

Miscellaneous:

There are some silly little things you need to do in order to round out this list. Like smack yourself into a particular bridge, finishing a race off your hydro jet, and finding the hidden easter egg. You will also need to buy 8 hydro jets, and do some painting. None of these are hard, but you still need to do them for all the achievements.

Conclusion:

This game is not very hard. Although there might be a few events you struggle with but with the right hydro jet fully upgraded most of them should come with in a few tries. Good luck and have fun.

Place 1st in any event.

Simply win any event. Milk Run, the very first event is an extremely easy win.

Get 1 star in all Career events.

This really just comes down to finishing each event once.

See Champion for more details on how to unlock this achievement.

Get 3 stars in all Career events.

This achievement pretty much sums up what you're going to to be doing the entire game. Each of the 4 event types have different rules and different ways to earn stars. In races you earn them by placing well; namely first place for 3 stars. In Elimination you earn them by being the last one standing. In Hot laps you get 3 stars for besting the time constraint for finishing the lap. Then finally for Freestyle you need to earn the specified amount of points to reach 3 stars; having a diverse bag of tricks is never a bad idea here.

The gist of what you need to do to make this as easy as possible is grind out money for the Manta hydro jet. The base stats are pretty good to start with and are the most well rounded/best in the game. Once upgraded most events should be pretty easy, there might be a few you will struggle with. Which will ultimately coming down to learning what tricks to use, what ramps to avoid, and just generally learning the course.

Now that you have the Manta it's time to revisit events and 3 star them. Check out Speedy Racer for Hot Lap tips, Aggressive Racer for Elimination tips, Pro Racer for Race tips, and Tricky Racer for Freestyle tips.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97910-lo.jpg Speedy Racer 30:gsicon:

Earn 3 stars in every Hot Lap.

For this try to remember that as tempting ass it is to hit ramps so you can do tricks for boost, don't do it. Hit only the necessary ramps and only use tricks that allow you to keep momentum after you land. You will shave off precious seconds by doing both of these things. The very last Hot lap allows for next to no room for error in your run. Saving yourself those half seconds here and there makes the difference between being done and having to do it again.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97911-lo.jpg Tricky Racer 30:gsicon:

Earn 3 stars in every Freestyle.

As you level up you gain access to more and more tricks which you will need only some of them to get through this in one piece. Pick a handful of tricks varying in level that you like and that can work together and basically stick to those. The more you try to complicate this, the harder it gets. While you're doing tricks try to see which ones flow together, and which ones cause you to stall on landing. This becomes very important in later events where there are only small margins for error.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97912-lo.jpg Aggressive Racer 30:gsicon:

Earn 3 stars in every Elimination.

This boils down to being ahead of someone at all times. Ultimately you will need to be ahead of everyone in order to get 3 stars, but making it to the next round so have that chance is more important. Good handling, top speed, and good use of minor tricks for boost will allow you sneak ahead of the next person when it matters most.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97913-lo.jpg Pro Racer 30:gsicon:

Earn 3 stars in every Race.

Out of all of the events this is the most straight forward. Having a good hydro jet with a high top speed and good handling will usually be enough for these events.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97914-lo.jpg Stunt Novice 15:gsicon:

Get at least 1000 points in a Freestyle event.

You WILL need to do this in order to get Champion and Tricky Racer. You will earn this fairly early on in the game. See Stunt Master for more details.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97915-lo.jpg Stunt Expert 30:gsicon:

Get 1500 points in a Freestyle event.

You WILL need to do this in order to get Champion and Tricky Racer. See Stunt Master for more details.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97916-lo.jpg Stunt Master 45:gsicon:

Get 2000 points in a Freestyle event.

You WILL need to do this in order to get Champion and Tricky Racer. The very last Freestyle event requires you to get a score of 2000 or more for 3 stars. Everything that applies for Tricky Racer, applies here as well.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97917-lo.jpg My First Hydro Jet 15:gsicon:

Buy 1 Hydro Jet.

From the main menu, select the name of your hydro jet in the top left (i.e Stingray) and press :abut:. This will bring you to the garage where you will get this and a few other achievements. Go to buy new and buy the Photon for $25,000 or you can wait and save all your money for the Manta which $300,000.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97918-lo.jpg Enthusiast 30:gsicon:

Buy 4 Hydro Jets.

From the main menu, select the name of your hydro jet in the top left (i.e Stingray) and press :abut:. This brings you to the garage. You will need to buy an additional 3 hydro jets on top of the one you bought for My First Hydro Jet.

For the sake of ease, save this til after you have the Manta and have it fully upgraded. This way you can funnel all your winnings to getting through the events and 3 starring them instead of constantly upgrading bad/mediocre hydro jets over time.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97919-lo.jpg Collector 45:gsicon:

Buy 8 Hydro Jets.

From the main menu, select the name of your hydro jet in the top left (i.e Stingray) and press :abut:. This brings you to the garage. You will need to buy an additional 4 hydro jets on top of the ones you bought for Buy 4 Hydro Jets.

For the sake of ease, save buying most of these til after you have the Manta and have it fully upgraded. This way you can funnel all your winnings to getting through the events and 3 starring them instead of constantly upgrading bad/mediocre hydro jets over time.

If you need money, repeat the highest paying event you can nab 1st in almost every time. So that you can maximize payout vs time.

  • Photon $25,000
  • Striker $35,000
  • Fireball $48,000
  • Typhoon $62,000
  • Lancer $100,000
  • Shockwave $170,000
  • Hammerhead $240,000
  • Manta $300,000

Total cost is $980,000

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97920-lo.jpg Mechanic 15:gsicon:

Upgrade a Hydro Jet.

From the main menu, select the name of your hydro jet in the top left (i.e Stingray) and press :abut:. This brings you to the garage. The first option is Upgrade, select it, and you will see 4 thingss you can upgrade on your currently chosen hydro jet

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97921-lo.jpg Tricked Out 30:gsicon:

Upgrade a Hydro Jet fully.

Aside from the Manta you really have no reason to fully upgrade anything else. Only use the upgrades you need in order to progress as needed. Over spending will increase the amount of money you will need in order to finish the game. This may increase the time you have to spend grinding. You have 4 things to upgrade; Acceleration, Top Speed, Handling, and Boost.

Lv 1 - $1,000

Lv 2 - $3,000

Lv 3 - $6,000

Lv 4 - $15,000

So it costs $25,000 to fully upgrade one aspect of your hydro jet, making it $100,000 to fully upgrade 1.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97922-lo.jpg Still Counts 30:gsicon:

Win a race without the rider.

There is only one way to get off of your hydro jet, fail a trick. So basically you need to fail a trick while in first and cross the finish line. This is easier than it sounds but might take a try or 2. The race Milk Run actually has a ramp right before the finish line. So do the race as normal and be in first place, as you're finishing your 2nd lap hit the ramp and do a trick late. This will cause you to crash and you should be sent to the finish line without your hydro jet.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97923-lo.jpg It's a Secret to Everybody 60:gsicon:

Find the hidden easter egg.

This on the VR challenge Harbor Master. Very early in the race you will see a Yacht and some rocks. Go around the left side of the Yacht, you will go out of bounds but ignore it, start heading in the direction of the rocks on the yacht. You will see an object floating above the water on the left side of rocks. It's a literal easter egg. Ride the waves to hit it and unlock the achievement.

Thanks to ArndaldoDK for the video.

Jump over 200m.

This will come over time while playing the game. There are some huge jumps in some of the courses that will make this pretty easy.

Unlock a level 10 stunt.

You will need to be at least level 10 to unlock this achievement.

At the main menu scroll over to your gamertag in the top right hit :abut:. Hit learn Skills and scroll over to level 10. Each of these cost 4 skill points, and some require stunts from previous levels in order to learn. Buy one of them and the achievement unlocks.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97926-lo.jpg Seasoned Vet 175:gsicon:

Reach level 20.

You earn exp after each event based on your performance. This will come naturally while grinding for money and trying to get 3 stars on everything. In fact you will very likely unlock this before finishing each event once.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97927-lo.jpg Call Me Picasso 15:gsicon:

Paint your Hydro Jet.

From the main menu, select the name of your hydro jet in the top left (i.e Stingray) and press :abut:. This brings you to the garage. The 4th option is paint shop. Go there, and you will be able to select your default colors for your rider's gear and your hydro jet. When you're set on your colors, hit:abut: to save and unlock the achievement.

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2997/97928-lo.jpg Destructive Tendencies 15:gsicon:

Smash a bridge in the Factory Shift event.

Early in the course there is a ramp right in front of a bridge. You will need some speed to hit the bridge, but if you go too fast you will go over it. So go at a medium speed and you will break the bridge.

Here is a quick video demonstration by me:
