French_Kid
Cliff Burton and Jason Newstead. I only say Newstead because that was the Metallica I grew up with so thats who I knew. Listening to the past albums, Cliff Burton was definetly wicked. I also enjoy Les Claypool...he does some fantastic stuff with that bass

Spade.
Gotta add Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. He did a good lob on 'Run To the Hills' imo. Pretty great on some of their other tracks.
Ctrl Alt Defeat
Justin Chancellor - Tool John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin Geddy Lee - Rush Flea - RHCP John Myung - Dream Theater (probably the most technical man to pick up a bass) John Eintwistle - The Who Paul McCartney - the Beatles. Make me want to start a favorite drummers and guitarists thread. LMFAO.

Mutalus
Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse came to my mind first when thinking about bass players.
The Bum-Mobile
Flea from the Chili Peppers not only got me playing bass, but exposed me to a whole line of great bassists I wouldn't have known about. Tim Commerford from Rage has some great basslines backing up Morello. Mostly simple stuff, but it sounds great. Paul McCartney of course. Larry Graham, the almighty creator of the slap. Paul Simonon of The Clash. I'm not a huge 311 fan, but P-Nut is a great bassist. SO many more.
