Proudclad - second encounter tips!

one could be forgiven for thinking of this boss as one of the hardest in the game, so here's some tips to make the battle a tad easier based on my encounter with him.

character levels.

Lightning: COM L4, RAV L4, MED L3

Sazh: COM L4, RAV L3, SYN L4

Vanille: RAV L3, SAB L1, MED L4

character skills.

(you should at least have these)

Lightning: Cura (MED)

Sazh: Haste (SYN), Bravery (SYN), Faith (SYN)

Vanille: Raise (MED), Cura (MED)

paradigms.

(top is primary)

Lightning: RAV | Sazh: SYN | Vanille: MED

Lightning: RAV | Sazh: RAV | Vanille: RAV

Lightning: COM | Sazh: COM | Vanille: RAV

Lightning: MED | Sazh: SYN | Vanille: MED

accessories.

stock up on HP+ and defensive accessories, your gonna need em.

strategy.

while in ground form / annihilation mode, the boss will spam his 'beam' attack, dealing moderate damage to your entire party, Depending on how your characters are leveled and geared, this attack can devastate the party in a short amount of time.

As such its best to start with Lightning as COM, Sazh as SIN, Vanille as MED so that you can spend the first couple of rounds, having Lightning attacking the boss, Sazh buffing your party and Vanille healing everyone as required.

Once all party members are fully buffed, you should notice a significant decrease in the amount of damage dealt by the beam attack and having spent most of your time buffing your party, you may need to heal up before staging your assault, this is best achieved with the MED, SYN, MED paradigm, biding your time until the enemy shifts to its aerial defence mode for the first time.

(note: the proudclad seems to like to shift to aerial mode, just as its about to be staggered in annihiliation mode, so raising the stagger meter may encourage the transformation if you find it doesnt shift to aerial defence mode in a timely manner)

the proudclad's shift into aerial defence is your signal, to shift to the RAV, RAV, RAV paradigm and stagger the opponent, during this time keep a close eye on the stagger gauge and shifting to COM, COM, MED or COM, COM RAV just as the opponent staggers (depending on your current health situation).

the COM, COM MED paradigm allows Vanille to heal your characters while they deal substantial damage to the staggered proudclad and once your characters health is at a suitable level have Vanille join the fight with the COM, COM, RAV paradigm.

at the end of the proudclad's stagger sequence, it will unleash 'retaliatory attacks' which again, can severely cripple your party, during these phases, stick with the MED, SYN, MED paradigm, waiting for the attacks to cease, or the proudclad to return to annihilation mode.

after the first 1 or 2 stagger sequences the proudclad disables its limiters, heals back to full health and gains an additional attack whereby it quickly performs an aerial defence mode transformation and deals damage to your entire party. when faces with this attack your best defence is to shift to MED, SYN, MED as soon as you see the prompt and keep your party healed to a nice level, and fully buffed.

although the enemy has returned to full health, dont become disheartened just keep up the same tactics as with before, keeping an eye on your health & buffs, then staggering the opponent after his major attack, and inbetween & during his beam attacks (if you can withstand them in the RAV, RAV, RAV paradigm)

eventually you should settle into a fine rhythm of the enemy attacking, while your healing and rebuffing as required, then followed by unleashing the RAV, RAV, RAV paradigm to stagger the opponent in either of his forms and finally shifting into the COM, COM, MED paradigm if you need to heal while the enemy is staggered or COM, COM, RAV to deal as much damage as possible (keeping in mind, the retaliatory attacks that will follow the enemies recovery from stagger)

'repeat, many many times'

final tips.

trying to keep Lightning and Vanille alive and close to full heath should be your main focus during this battle, as Vanilles 'raise' skill will allow you to bank your TP until its absolutely essential for you to perform a renew or summon in order to revive lost party members.

you dont need to perform a summon in order to beat this boss, and ideally you will want to hold out on using one here unless your supporting party members are killed.

there have been posts yes. i acknowledge that.

but as with some of the eidolon fights, there is no background information as to where your characters should be at prior to engaging the boss.

i figure its better to post a thread, or to one, in an attempt to help people, rather than randomly troll threads and post useless replies.
