How do you get two companions??

I doubt I am the only one, but I like to roam alone. Since I only play on hardcore, I don't want to worry about my companions dying. Once recruited, and unless I am doing their quests, I sent them all to Lucky 38. I don't want conversation or help killing things. The game is far too easy without help or additional perks.

Vast emptiness and desolation is the beauty of this type of game. Also with the long haul perk, if I am carrying too much stuff, I fast back to Lucky 38 or Novak and drop it off.

For one, I like sneaking. Seeing that enemies are in the area is a great help and offsets having a lower endurance. Also I only had 6 Perception, but then found out about the implants and got a perception implant. And for Rex, I am pretty sure I have that setting turned off because I haven't seen one of the cinematic cams in a really long time.

And with the Cook-Cook part, having the Bloody Mess perk makes enemies randomly completely explode when they die, so having Rex kill him definitely saved me the annoyance of reloading saves. I remember shooting a Legionary with an assault carbine in the chest and he literally turned into a mist of organs and blood with no recognizable limbs apart from a hand left lol.

And for the caps, yeah I know there are a lot of caps, but I still want more and I don't want to resort to gambling because I don't like gambling in games or real life for that matter!

Since this thread is about companions I would like to find out:

apart from Rex, do you use any other companion or their perk?

I amagine Boone or Lily to be likely candidates.

On my next playthrough I'll give "Bloody Mess" a try. Sounds like it might be funny.

Regarding gambling; I only did it in the beginning of the game to get the achievement for getting kicked from the casinos.

The other way of making money is by doing the caravan-minigame. This hardly classifies as gambling because you can manipulate your own deck AND the opponenet never plays face-cards on your deck.

How do you feel about caravan? Do you consider it gambling or a mental exercise?

Don't worry, you're not the only one. Sometimes I wander into the desert and fancy to do some sniping on ghouls and rad-scorpions.

However I do benefit from my companions perks. I just go to the Lucky 38 and tell them to wait for me there. That way they're safe, they're not with me AND I still benefit from their perks.

I use Cass right now, but I haven't tested out the others. I would probably choose Boone since Lily would probably be bad to sneak with, until the enemies spot her and then she and Rex draws all the attention.

Bloody Mess is good. The only problem is when all the chunks get mixed together and it becomes hard to determine which hunk of meat belongs to which enemy. It is great because it adds a +5% damage increase to everything!

I haven't tried Caravan yet, I always figured it was just gambling you could do outside of casinos in case you get kicked out of all of them. Although I will have to gamble and play Caravan for the achievements.

One question I have to ask, I have not heard of people having this problem either:

a. BEFORE the latest patch

b. BEFORE the DLC

I've heard of companion problems after DLC so if you can check with bethesda site to see if its a problem. Otherwise, try clearing the cache and not installing the patch and see what happens...

If you want two melee characters then try the following:

- Use Rex ... obviously.

- Equip Boone with a Power Fist; good conditioned and preferably a unique version.

I know Boone starts out as a sniper, but he is really good at unarmed. You will find him to be better than Veronica. In addition you can benefit from his spotter perk.

Boone is more of a melee character rather than an unarmed and Veronica with a ballistic fist = "pwnage" 2-3hits and nightkin are body parts. Along with most other creatures.

(Not to sound mean but) How is Lily a candidate? Her perk is useless is you have a high sneak skill... There is no need for stealth boys late game.
