Huge thanks going out to Rajeanero for the banner.

Howdy ladies and gents and welcome to the Spartacus Legends guide brought to you by THE DEADLY DOG.

The game has been removed from the marketplace and is no longer accessible to play. All achievements are now unobtainable.

Just a couple quick points before the G&RM:

  • I would like anyone who plays the game and wishes for the best possible guide to emerge for the X360A community to please contribute to the creation of this guide. Just because I started it does not mean other's should not take pride in the work.
  • This shouldn't discourage other's from trying their own hand at creating a G&RM.

X360A Community Members Who Contributed to the Success of This G&RM

Introduction:

CAPUA! Shall we begin? NO!

Welcome gladiators, warriors, and achievement hunting faithful to a special edition of Spartacus Legends brought to you by a true undefeated champion and his faithful sidekick dog. Remember your days of dreaming of fighting like Russel Crowe in Gladiator to the death? Ever dream of fame, glory, wine, wealth, and prosperity? Well this game will throw you down into the dirt and will disown you well before you are able to rise to the top echelon of glory and fame. We will need to put in a substantial amount of time, effort, button mashing, and maybe even money to come out on top of this one.

Spartacus Legends is a free arcade game brought to us by Kung Fu Factory, and represents a new trend of F2P games with micro transactions embedded within. The core of the game, and actually all of it, can easily be completed without even touching the spend Microsoft points section. The majority of the achievements can easily be obtained, but in order to get the full 400http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png, prepare yourself for a long haul grind.

Controls:

The game handles like many other fighters on the market today. Here is a brief overview of the different buttons, their effects, and how to use them in battle:

  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/ls.png - Movement.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/rs.png - Roll in the direction of the stick.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/downdpad.png - Taunt to increase your crowd favor.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/a.png - Pankration which is essentially guard break. Use this on an opponent that blocks constantly.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/b.png - Grab will allow you to either stop an assault or begin an assault by enabling you to grab and wound your enemy. This is also the button used to block a grab attempt.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png - Light attacks are always faster and weaker.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png - Strong attacks are slower and more powerful.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/rb.png - Dodge/Roll are evade techniques. This is crucial if you are either trapped in an assault, or are looking to space between you and your enemy.
  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/lb.png - Block of an enemy's attacks.

With the controls down your next step will be to familarize yourself with the different combos. Hit http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/start.png and go down to Help & Options and then to Command List to find the full list of attacks, dodges, blocks, ect per weapon style.

List of Perks

Tips & Tricks:

There is quite a bit to explain here so bare with me as we try to guide you along. First and foremost the game is as much about lucking out with the AI's difficulty as it is landing the right combo to get the job done. Even in situations where you have the match up you want, you can easily find yourself at the short end of the stick with random difficulty spikes that are beyond belief. With that said let's get into the largest portion of the RoadMap.

Gladiator Color Ranking System

Gladiators in the game come in six different classes.

  • White is the lowest and only allows for one perk slot.
  • Green is the second lowest and allows for two perk slots.
  • Blue is in the middle and allows for three perk slots.
  • Purple is the third best and allows for four perk slots.
  • Yellow is reserved for legendary gladiators and has everything custom made and set including weapons, armor, and perks.
  • Yellow later on in the game are the best rated gladiators and contain five perk slots for customizing.

Next up is a combo guide that I wanted to thank TheMajinLegend for helping to kick-start. Kindly note these are the best strategies I found, they may not work best for you.

Dual Daggers

For dual daggers you have a few choices to choose from to maximize killing efficiency and minimize dashboarding rage. Your number one choice for dual daggers is the legend from the second area, Acolytus who is beyond powerful. As far as what it works best against, the dual daggers work best against the shield and spear and the shield and sword opponents, although, dual daggers is by far the most effective spam choice out of all of the styles.

  1. Toward Enemy + http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png is good for closing the distance between you and your opponent and is coupled perfectly with
  2. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png which is a devistating power combo that once inside an enemy's space, is brutal to get out of.
  3. Down on the http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/ls.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png is another stellar quick combo that again is hard to get out of.

Dual Swords

Dual swords ranks second as the easiest to not only use, but to defeat enemies with and really only has one combo worth noting that tends to destroy all competition. Dual swords is best used on enemies with a shield (shield and sword, shield and spear), although in a few other occasions, can also be the go-to style. Spartacus is the top-notch gladiator in this particular fighting style and can be earned once you clear the last district and purchase him.

  1. Down+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png is not only a fairly powerful, but very quick and effective spam combo for dual swords. There is truly no other technique so deadly, or so efficient for the dual swords to note, but as always, checking out the command list will provide you with a full plethora of all the moves the dual swords have to offer.

Spear and Shield

Spear and shield can be tough to work with especially when your opponent either has range on you, or is just so fast you are unable to make a decisive move. We have a few options (not necessarily spam combos per say) that we can take advantage of to make fights in which we must use it easier. Domus Nobilium is your legendary who sports the spear and shield, and in my opinion, for the fights you need to use this combo, is well worth it.

  1. Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png is a powerful and rather quick (in terms of spear and shield style) combo that does decent damage. The only flaw, and it is a major flaw, is that an enemy that likes to move often will have no trouble getting away from this attack and countering with a flurry of hits. This combo needs to be used intelligently.
  2. Up+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png coupled with Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png is the preferred/go-to style when using the spear and shield. The key here is to begin with the Up+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png and if you successfully land a critical hit, or bloody your opponent to quickly use the time that he is staggered to blast him with the Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png to inflict massive damage.

Defeated all Primus Fights in all districts for the first time.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Primus fights are a combination of the fights that lead up to the legendary gladiator as well as the legendary gladiator himself. Each district has five Primus fights coupled with the legend to create the basis for this achievement. We will walk through each and every battle and examine what I did that I think you will benefit the most from. Shall we begin?

The first district available is:

Extremus District

Lethality: ★

Silver: ★

Fame: ★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Cloelius The Tortoise (Sword and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Toward+:ybut::ybut: on the dual daggers works really well on getting inside his shield and dealing good damage.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Nervus The Spastic (Dual Swords)

Style Needed: Sword and Shield

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut: is a good equalizer to his fast dual swords.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Albus The Garden Viper (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Dual daggers using Toward+:ybut::ybut: still works well if this is your first playthrough.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Calix Of The Iron Winds (Dual Swords)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: with dual daggers will keep him off balance and will help you easily win.

Primus Fight Five

Gladiator: Sandulf The Insane (Unarmed)

Style Needed: Dual Daggers

Strategy: Dual daggers will do fairly well against unarmed. Just make sure you do not allow him to break huge combos off on you. If in doubt roll out and restart the combat.

Legend Fight

Gladiator: Oenomaus (Sword and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: is the single best style for the defensive Oenomaus. He loves to block and roll his combos off of breaking your streak. He is a very defensive based opponent and will force you out of your shell in order to beat him.

The second district available is:

Mercatus District

Fame Required to Enter: 3

Lethality: ★★

Silver: ★★

Fame: ★★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Gallus The Stubborn (Sword and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Depending on what gladiators you own I would advise using the one you are strongest with. This very well may be the dual daggers character. If that's the case may I suggest Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: as the dominate combo/spam combo to use on him.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Gracilius The Gutter (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Dual Daggers

Strategy: Personally used Toward+:ybut::ybut: this time around. I needed something that would neutralize his speed. This combo does it easily.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Fulvius The Quick (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: This battle can easily be won with Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: when coupled with making sure he is not allowed to break a large combo on you. If you are in trouble roll away and begin the spam combo again.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Acteon The Aggressor (Dual Swords)

Style Needed: Dual Swords

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: is the combo to use here although this time we need to be even more careful of his break away speed and remember to not let him get a combo on us.

Primus Fight Five

Gladiator: Merbal The Anvil (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Merbal is a big time defensive user so you want to use a strategy that will keep the assault on him all the time. I used my speedster with dual daggers and instead of the usual combo, I went with Toward+:ybut::ybut: which neutralized his defense bar and inflicted big damage.

Legend

Gladiator: Acolytus (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Just like against Fulvius you want to eliminate his speed from the equation rendering him weak. Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: is what you should use and what you should pride your offense on although if he is evading too much remember Toward+:ybut::ybut:. Remember to roll and evade if he someone breaks through.

The third district available is:

Domus Nobilium District

Fame Required to Enter: 5

Lethality: ★★★

Silver: ★★★

Fame: ★★★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Tiberius Longsword (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: In order to negate his power we need to stay inside and need to stay quick. He loves to dodge and loves to roll so using dual daggers and Toward+:ybut::ybut: cannot simply be spammed. Well timed combos will allow you to do between 5 and 7 sequences without having to reset yourself.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Hamilmax The Smasher (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Sword

Strategy: We are revisiting Spamming :ybut:. Only thing to note about Hamilmax is that he loves to dodge and to guard break before he strikes.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Petrus Bloodtide (Two-Handed Trident)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I simply used Spamming :ybut: to counteract his range with the trident. He is defenseless when he cannot even get enough space to attack.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Velerian Swifthammer (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Sword and Shield

Strategy: I went slightly different for this one. Toward+:xbut::xbut: Away+:xbut::xbut: kept him off guard and disabled his big hammer combos. He just defends a lot which will eventually break enabling you to land the big ones.

Primus Fight Five

Gladiator: Prosperus Goldenrod (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I went back to the two-handed sword utilizing the Spamming :ybut:, reason for it was that he liked to defend often and the hits I delivered negated his defense and got me inside his spear.

Legend

Gladiator: Masonius (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Masonius is 100x more aggressive than Prosperus (the gladiator we just fought before this battle). I used the two-handed sword and utilized Spamming :ybut:, but I used it very gingerly. I started out spamming it and got caught in combo after combo. The key is to get inside his spear and to unleash. If he distances, re-position and go back in.

The fourth district available is:

Insulae District

Fame Required to Enter: 6

Lethality: ★★★★★

Silver: ★★★★★

Fame: ★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Otho The Savage (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Hammer

Strategy: I struggled a lot with this battle. He is so quick and takes massive advantage of the time between your last hit in the Toward+:ybut::ybut: combo and the beginning of the next one. Stay persistent, but get out of there if he breaks through.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Iduma Twin-Fang (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Sword

Strategy: At this point you should know what I suggest (Spamming :ybut:). It still works, just be careful of his speed.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Ferox The Skull Collector (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Trident

Strategy: Personally I liked Down + :ybut::ybut: which negated his reach and his power.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Lothar of The Hills (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Trident

Strategy: I went with Down+:ybut: as my dominant move also incorporating Toward+:ybut: if I successfully staggered him. You can easily catch him in this combo for the entirety of the match.

Primus Match Five

Gladiator: Ronan The Barbaric (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Using the two-handed sword and the Spam :ybut: combo is an effective strategy against another two-handed sword user. I had no problem with him as his defense bar quickly drops after a few hits leaving him defenseless.

Legend

Gladiator: Ixion (Two-Handed Hammer)

Style Needed: Dual Daggers

Strategy: This will be a tough battle. I suggest purchasing Acolytus (legendary dual dagger gladiator from the second district) if you have the gold coin to. He will come into the battle with great armor, perks, and weaponry. As far as attack style I rotated a bit. I predominately focused on Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: but even that was often not enough. He is super fast and will break your combo often leaving you scratching your head trying to regroup. My biggest bit of advise is to roll away often and simply begin the assault again. It'll take longer, but he can wipe your health away with a single combo.

The fifth district available is:

Oscan Capua District

Fame Required to Enter: 8

Lethality: ★★★

Silver: ★★★

Fame: ★★★★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Wilhelm The Proud (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Sword

Strategy: For some reason I struggled with this. I utilized Toward+:ybut::ybut: and Away+:ybut::ybut: as my primary attack style, and then used :abut:+:xbut: when I put some distance between us. I know not the styles listed in the RoadMap, but I found these ones working best for me.

The second district available is:

Mercatus District

Lethality: ★★

Silver: ★★

Fame: ★★

Legend

Gladiator: Acolytus (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Just like against Fulvius you want to eliminate his speed from the equation rendering him weak. Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: with the dual daggers is what you should use if you still favor the speed of the style and what you should pride your offense on at this point. Remember to roll and evade if he someone breaks through.

The third district available is:

Domus Nobilium District

Lethality: ★★★

Silver: ★★★

Fame: ★★★

Legend

Gladiator: Masonius (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Masonius is 100x more aggressive than Prosperus (the gladiator we just fought before this battle). I used the two-handed sword and Spammed :ybut:, but I used it very gingerly. I started out spamming it and got caught in combo after combo. The key is to get inside his spear and to unleash. If he distances, re-position and go back in.

The fourth district available is:

Insulae District

Lethality: ★★★★★

Silver: ★★★★★

Fame: ★

The Insulae district is a major location to grab a few achievements. First off we start by grabbing "Beat Strong, Bloody Heart," which is awarded for winning 5 consecutive battles in a row. Not too hard, just make sure to dashboard if you are going to lose. I also suggest grabbing "Rejected by Hell" while you are here. Rejected is awarded for having a gladiator die and reviving him. If it didn't come naturally up to this point you can do it now as this district has the highest lethality rating. Just buy a cheap gladiator and allow him to be killed.

You can also stay here to grab "Without Mercy" which is awarded for 25 slaughters or executions (slaughters are simply kills after the battle without the execution boost). If you decide to move on without grabbing it here, you will most certainly grab it naturally on your way to 50 fame.

Lethality: ★★★

Silver: ★★★

Fame: ★★★★

Legend

Gladiator: Crixus (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Best thing to do here is to keep Crixus away from you at all costs. Using Ixion from the Insulae District will help to better your chances by providing you with the most powerful two-handed hammer gladiator if you choose that path (which I did). I used a lot of :abut:+:xbut: with a majority of my attacks in the spamming :ybut: category.

The final district available is:

Spectacula District

Lethality: ★★★★★

Silver: ★★★★

Fame: ★★★★★

The second you win your first battle in the Spectacula district you will unlock "Opened Gates, Bloodied Sands." Once you have conquered Baal you will snag "The Champion of Capua," which is awarded for defeating all Primus fighters. After you defeat Spartacus you will unlock "Legendary Victory" for defeating all legendary gladiators.

If you've been working along at a good pace and are not too high of a level going into the last district you will unlock your final fighting style, which after buying and winning a match with that gladiator, will net you "Well-Versed in Weaponry."

Final Legend

Gladiator: Spartacus (Dual Swords)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I suggest using the two-handed trident and coupling that with the Down+:ybut: strategy. He will run into it more times than you can count making this final battle one of the easiest legend fights.

The Struggle to Become Legend (Grind):

Get ready to buckle down a for a long, long haul. In order to grab "Rich and Famous" you will need to do in the neighborhood of 3,500 battles (not factoring in double exp or boost fights). This is no cake walk, and is definitely not some easy task. After you've defeated Spartacus there is no need to go back through and fight all the enemies again in New Game+. You want to go to the Spectacula district and focus on the Spear and Shield challenger (bottom right) and the Mystery Challenger (above it). I suggest you find a style that you can dominate with and begin to wear the buttons down on your controller as you spam your slow way to victory.

Personally I like the two-handed trident because of it's ability to inflict decent damage at great range. I'm a huge fan of the Down+:ybut: technique and have used it for many, many battles. Here are a couple quick facts to remember, or note as you go through this section of the game:

  • If you are going to lose instead of allowing it to happen (especially if it will result in an execution), simply pause the game and dashboard. You get three strikes for this. The first two times are a slap on the wrist telling you not to do it again, and the third time results in your gladiator's deletion. Use the dashboard sparingly as the cool-down for a specific gladiator is unknown and quite lengthy.
  • Do not waste your gold coins on legendary gladiators, weapons or armor, or boosts aside from double fame. You will get to the point where the best armor, weapons, and characters can be bought with boatloads of silver (of which you will net in the market of 20,000,000 by the time you are finished).
  • The AI has a rubber band quality to it. Sometimes they are extremely easy, and other times you seemingly have to work for your single win. Be persistent and do not lose your focus for long otherwise you may find your gladiator dead.

Conclusion:

Overall the game is your stereotypical fighter, button smasher. The simple fact that the game is free is a huge selling factor especially in today's society where we pay increasing sums of money for everything. Many of the first day/week bugs and glitches have been since fixed and patched leaving us with a game that still leaves much to be desired, but is bearable sparingly. Just understand that in order to get the full 400:gsicon: you will need to put in close to, and most likely well over 100 hours easily depending on how persistent and efficient you are and more importantly how much real world money you spend on the boost to get double fame.

The game is fun though and will give you some enjoyment, even if it is up until you begin the grind for 50 fame. If you follow the G&RM you will be in the best position to take Spartacus Legends as far as you desire. Good luck!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/1.jpgWell-Versed in Weaponry 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Won at least 1 match with each fighting style.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

To unlock this achievement, you will need to win a fight with each of the fighting styles avaulable in the game.

  • Dual Daggers
  • Dual Swords
  • Spear and Shield
  • Sword and Shield
  • Two-Handed Hammer
  • Two-Handed Sword
  • Two-Handed Trident
  • Unarmed For unarmed you need to take any character and go into modify then remove weapon. This does not work on legends.

All of these styles will need to be used except for unarmed, in Primus fights as you progress through the story-line. If you want to get this out of the way though, you can simply buy the character with this type, and go back to the first district to grab a quick win.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/2.jpgHardened for Battle 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeated an opponent of Threat Rating 100 or higher.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Beating any of the legends will unlock this achievement, or simply progressing far enough into the game will also present you with the opportunity to defeat an opponent higher than 100 threat rating. If you have trouble snagging this please refer to the RoadMap for specific weapon styles, what they are good against, the combos you should use, and other tips and tricks as well as the require styles for each specific legend.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/3.jpgBeat Strong, Bloody Heart 40http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Won 5 consecutive fights in Insulae district.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Insulae district can be found on your world map in the bottom right corner, with a number '6' on it, which indicates that you need to be Fame level 6 to progress to it. The kicker for this district is that every battle ends with an execution so losing even one battle means the life of your gladiator. Luckily there are some little tips we can employ to make it through this.

Sword and Shield

Sword and shield is another tough style to use, and be proficient with because of its capabilities, and rather weak offensive chances. Unless you are trying to perfect combos and sequences with the sword and shield it's best to try and avoid using this style unless you absolutely must. The problem with the sword and shield for the purpose of quickly ending a battle is the slow rate of attack, and the technique of actually using the shield to defend oneself. The key to succeeding with this style is to know when to attack--plain and simple. There is really only one spam combo you need to remember to use when playing with this style although the second "combo" is a good strategy to utilize:

  • Down+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png Just like dual daggers this combo is the most efficient, but unlike dual daggers, it is MUCH slower which requires careful planning and less spamming.
  • Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png coupled with Away +http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png when you are inside of an enemy's zone the toward + xx will turn the tide in your favor and when your enemy get's too close the away + xx will put some distance to allow you to go back to the toward + xx.

Two-Handed Sword

Two-handed sword can be a very powerful and efficient style, if you are able to not only master some good combos, but are able to successfully dodge if your attacks do not slide in your favor. When using Crixus you can do cataclysmic damage and can definitely get used to the style. Below are a few good combos to keep your eyes on when using this particular style:

  • Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png works really well when coupled with well timed rolling and the careful use of backing away when too close to your enemy. Definitely a power tactic that will keep your enemy off of you.
  • Spam http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png is just one of those classic button smashers that is darn-near unstoppable. I've tried it against numerous styles with Crixus and I rarely get touched when I'm careful with moving to and fro.
  • Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png coupled with Up+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png works really well as it gets your opponents defense down and allows for a huge not only combo to take place, but intense damage as well. The only flaw to this strategy is getting caught by a speed opponent who does not allow you to get back into your combo. Just be careful, and be ready to roll away to reset yourself.

Two-Handed Hammer

Two-handed hammer is one of those styles you should get used to quickly, preferably early on, and rely on throughout your experiences as it is easily one of the best not only for spamming, but for actual playing as well. We will go over a couple good combos and where/when they can be used efficiently:

  • http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/a.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png This is easily the deadliest combo in the game. The move covers a tremendous amount of ground and does cataclysmic damage. A couple important notes about this though; The move does cover a lot of ground and during the period of air travel can be easily dodged, and counted for a tremendous amount of damage. You need to watch your distance and efficiently roll away if you are not going to land the attack.
  • Holding Away+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/x.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/a.png+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png in that order is another very good hammer combo that covers ground, keeps the enemy off guard, and deals incredible damage.
  • Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png and Away+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.pnghttp://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png also works really well if you are looking for a little more spammage.

Two-Handed Trident

This may in fact become your most go-to style for getting to 50 fame by far. The two-handed trident is beyond powerful, not necessarily in the damage category, but in range, defense, and ability--its almost unmatched. It's actually been suggested numerous times in numerous places that this may in fact be the best style for not only grinding, but beating the toughest challenges as well, such as Spartacus. We are going to go over a couple great combinations to utilize with the two-handed trident:

An important key to making a good two-handed trident gladiator is not killing his ability to roll while keeping the damage up. You will keep the enemy at bay, make sure you can get away fast enough so he doesn't do a massive combo chain on you.

  • Down+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png is the best move to utilize with the two-handed trident. The move does move you closer to your target so careful extractions from your enemy's zone will be necessary. The key to using this combo is to know 3 things: 1) That you need to roll away either if your opponent gets inside your attacks or if you start getting too close for the attack to be efficient, 2) Utilize Toward+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png when you stagger or bloody your opponent to come in with the single most powerful trident attack and 3) If you are too close and your character is not made for rolling you can always do Away+http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/y.png which is another good move to get some distance between yourself and your opponent.

Bottom line is that this will be your go-to style for grinding and beating bosses. Get used to it, embrace it, and let the wins roll in.

Unarmed

Unarmed is obviously the weakest of the styles and can be chosen by taking any gladiator and equipping his weapon. Although this style has the fastest combos, it is again the weakest, and only should be used to gain "Well-Versed in Weaponry." The key to victory with unarmed is to get in close and to keep the combo going for as long as you can, getting out of there if things go south.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:

The game will be tackled in two distinct phases: 1) The main story play through and 2) The grind.

Climb to the Top (Main Playthrough):

There are 6 districts you must progress through in order to complete 11 out of the 12 achievements. Each one differs slightly as far as combatants, scenarios, perks, and fame/coin rewards. We will be snagging quite a few achievements here so be prepared to get your boots wet with the blood of your enemies and learn the ropes of the game. We will be snagging quite a few achievements here so be prepared to get your boots wet with the blood of your enemies and learn the ropes of the game.

We start off with a quick tutorial guide in which we are able to dominate our competition with none other than Spartacus himself! After completing the literal step-by-step walkthrough on how to play the game you will unlock "An Educated Lanista."

The first district available is:

Extremus District

Lethality: ★

Silver: ★

Fame: ★

You can grab "Vidi, Vici, Veni" at any time during your duration in the first district. Simply go to the boosts section of editing a gladiator and buy the 500 silver boost for 5 executions. Following that win one battle and execute your opponent.

Legend Fight

Gladiator: Oenomaus (Sword and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: coupled with careful rolling and dodging will help you beat Oenomaus.

Following this fight you will unlock "Hardened for Battle" for defeating a gladiator above level 100 threat rating, "Legendary Victory" for defeating your first legendary gladiator and "The First of Many Conquests" for conquering your first district.

  • Dual Daggers coupled with the spam combos listed in the RM work wonders down here and tear through the competition. Dual swords also works well with the spam combos.
  • If you are about to lose quickly pause the game and dashboard out. You need to use this method gingerly though as too many dashboards in a row with the same gladiator will result in that particular fighter's deletion. So needless to say just be careful.
  • I suggest not doing the Primus matches unless you are sure of your abilities with particular styles as losing one there will reset your count.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/4.jpgRejected by Hell 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Revived a dead Gladiator for the first time.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

This will most likely come naturally unless you dashboard often. Revival occurs after any match in which your opponent executed your gladiator, and the first time per gladiator is free. You will be prompted with the menu instructing you that you can either revive your gladiator or move on in which, if you are going for this particular achievement, you want to revive him.

If you seem unable to lose you can always buy a low level recruit, take him into the Insulae district and allow your opponent to wallop on him.

Important Note: Legends cannot be revived. If you lose a legend in combat you will need to re-buy him with gold.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/5.jpgVidi, Vici, Veni 20

Drove the crowd into a frenzy and won a fight by executing your opponent with a finishing move.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Finishing moves are unique to the end of a battle. If you end up victorious and you do not deal away all your opponents health before the final blow you will have the opportunity to execute him with a finishing move, so long as you have the boost. Each character is able to buy a 500 silver perk unique to their fighting style that essentially glorifies the final death scene a bit, "driving the crowd into a frenzy."

In essence all this takes is winning a match with the execution boost purchased and you will grab this achievement naturally.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/6.jpgWithout Mercy 60http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Performed 25 executions or slaughters.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

"Without Mercy" is another one of those achievements that simply put, will come naturally as you begin the long journey to 50 fame. If you aren't interested in hearing about long journeys there are some tips and some words of advise to help you along.

This achievement includes both types of death to finish a match: Execution (which can only be achieved by purchasing the 500 silver coin boost) and Slaughter (of which you will rack up many in your career. As I said before there are two ways you can go about this, quickly actually shooting for the achievement, or allow it to come naturally as you progress.

Your best bet for grabbing this quickly involves spending a few thousand silver coins to purchase the boost which enables you to execute your enemy at the end of a battle. In tangent to purchasing the boost, simply go back to the first district and fight the easiest class of gladiators shooting for the execution every time. It'll be a bit tedious, but this is easily the fastest way to grab this achievement. If you don't mind a little extra wait, you can continue to battle your way through the story-line and as you do so slaughter an opponent every so often, or when you get to the Insulae district, every time. Either way this achievement isn't all that difficult and will come naturally--one way or another.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/7.jpgLegendary Victory 30http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Defeated a legendary gladiator.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Legendary gladiators are the final stop in each district, and by design, are the toughest. If you've watched the TV series some of these names should sound familiar to you, and rightfully so, we must conquer them.

Here is the spread of each District, the Legend's Name, and their fighting style:

  • Extremus District – Oenomaus fights with a Sword and Shield
  • Mercatus District – Alcolytus fights with Dual Daggers
  • Domus Nobilium District – Masonius fights with a Spear and Shield
  • Insulae District – Ixion fights with Two-Handed Hammer
  • Oscan Capua District – Crixus fights with a Two-Handed Sword
  • Spectacula District – Spartacus fights with Dual Swords

For advise on how to conquer these foes refer to "The Champion of Capua."

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/8.jpgAn Educated Lanista 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Completed the Tutorial fight.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

To unlock this achievement you need to finish the very first fight in the game where you will be in control of Spartacus and need to defeat a hammer wielding gladiator. The game literally walks you through the different controls and has you perform them numerous times before you move on. After learning these controls and defeating the gladiator, the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/9.jpgOpened Gates, Bloodied Sands 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Unlocked all arenas and fought in all arenas at least once.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

There are a total of 6 arenas spread across the game with a minimum fame level of 10 required in order to fight in them all. They are as follows:

  • Extremus District Unlocked from the beginning.
  • Mercatus District Unlocked at 3 Fame.
  • Domus Nobilium District Unlocked at 5 Fame.
  • Oscan Capua District Unlocked at 6 Fame.
  • Insulae District Unlocked at 8 Fame.
  • Spectacula District Unlocked at 10 Fame.

Once you fight in all 6, not necessarily win, you will unlock this achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/10.jpgRich and Famous 80http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Reached Level 50 Fame.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

This will absolutely be the most time-consuming, difficult achievement for you to unlock. The difficulty does go away once you perfect an attack style and use it beyond belief, literally becoming a champion of the arena.

Now the online versus match is technically faster than grinding out the two fights listed below because of the extra bonuses, but the chances of losing your gladiator are not worth the little bit of extra fame. It's best to stick with the following two fights located in the Spectacula District (a.k.a the last district):

  • Spear & Shield Challenger
  • Mystery Challenger

I recommend using the style you are most comfortable with as these two fights will easily become muscle memory by fame level 50. Personally I use the two-handed trident as it not only has good stopping power, but it has the all-mighty range, which can win any battle for you. Stick to these two battles and see your fame slowly...ever so slowly rise. Note that you can spend 20 gold coins on the perk Fame Boost which doubles fame for the next five battles, but this will drain your coin supply quickly, although there is nothing better to spend your gold on as the best weapons, armor, and characters become available through silver coins eventually.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/2431/11.jpgThe First of Many Conquests 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Conquered your first district.

All achievements are now unobtainable.

Conquering your first district can be done in any of the 6 playable areas. In order for you to successfully conquer a district you will need to fight in all the Primus matches as well as defeat the legendary gladiator at the end. Once you defeat the legendary gladiator you will unlock the achievement.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Seighart The Heartless (Two-Handed Sword)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: From the get-go you are are a power disadvantage and his ability to land one massive combo is almost unmatched as far as I've seen. Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: for the dual daggers was the only combo I could actually get on him, although he was often able to evade and smack me after I missed the entire spam. It's a very frustrating battle, just be patient and wait for your opportunity to dive into him. If you're in a position to use a different style, then go for it, hopefully you're able to conquer this guy.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Tacitus The Silent (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Hammer

Strategy: Another fairly tough fight you need to be on the top of your game when combating this power-defender. I went with the :abut:+:xbut: strategy and used it throughout the entire battle although doing this really slowed it down as I danced around for the majority of the fight.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Priscus Five Fangs (Two-Handed Trident)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: A fairly easy battle as I used the two-handed trident and simply spammed :ybut: technique. Remember to keep him at bay, and not to allow him to break a combo on you.

Primus Fight Five

Gladiator: Vitals The Leech (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Trident

Strategy: I relied on my farming strategy Down+:ybut: to be the work-horse in conquering him. Honestly wasn't too bad, just remember to keep him back.

I used a lot of :abut:+:xbut: and even did a few segments of :xbut::xbut:

The final district available is:

Spectacula District

Fame Required to Enter: 10

Lethality: ★★★★★

Silver: ★★★★

Fame: ★★★★★

Primus Fight One

Gladiator: Hrowulf The Impenetrable (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I went with Toward+:ybut::ybut: and Away+:ybut::ybut: when using the hammer character. I just felt as though I wanted something that provided a bit more speed as he liked to defend. Overall it's a fairly easy match as he likes to defend often and is easily broken down.

Primus Fight Two

Gladiator: Remus Wolf Child (Dual Daggers)

Style Needed: Spear and Shield

Strategy: Down+:xbut::xbut::xbut: all the way to the bank. Just put distance between the two of you when you get too close. He actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be since this style is my weakest.

Primus Fight Three

Gladiator: Hannibal The Cannibal (Two-Handed Trident)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I actually spammed Down+:ybut: for the entire fight using two-handed trident. Liked the way it kept me close against his long ranged trident. I know it sounds crazy but the AI loves to long range when they use the trident, so I like to close range them when I use the same weapon. Two-handed sword would have also worked really well here as well spamming :ybut:.

Primus Fight Four

Gladiator: Serverus The Hunter (Spear and Shield)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Trident

Strategy: I relied 100% on Spamming :ybut: to beat this aggressive fighter. Unlike the last guy, try to keep him off of the offensive so he cannot one-combo your life away as for some odd reason spear and shield gladiators have this uncanny ability to drop a huge spinning combo.

Primus Fight Five

Gladiator: Baal (Two-Handed Trident)

Style Needed: Two-Handed Hammer

Strategy: :abut:+:xbut: works wonders on Baal. You take away his advantage of the distance and deal amazing damage. Just remember to roll back and repeat to ensure he cannot get to you.

Final Legend

Gladiator: Spartacus (Dual Swords)

Style Needed: Any

Strategy: I suggest using the two-handed trident and coupling that with the Down+:ybut: strategy. He will run into it more times than you can count making this final battle one of the easiest legend fights.

Are you sure the game is offline?

Micro-transactions had me believe you needed to be connected in order to play.

Well I'm debating on that as well as you needing to be connected to the servers in order to play thus making it online.

Might need an exception notice?

I believe he's using online as single player, since you always need to be connected to the game, but none of the achievements require multiplayer

Right so then we need to decide whether or not the game's achievements should constitute online (as is required to get on the game although not to get achievements) or if we should keep it as offline and make the note that you need to be online in order to connect to the servers thus enabling play.

Rejected by Hell is super easy. Just use a very low skill fighter against a legendary fighter and let them get their Crowd meter full and then they will execute you. After the match you will be brought to a menu asking if you want to revive this fighter. The first time it is free (shocking), but it is 500 Silver after that. Select yes you want to revive him and the Achievememt unlocks.

Can probably be done vs any fighter, but it's easier/quicker against a legend.

The extras note it perfect.

Don't want people with no internet getting excited, downloading the game at a friends house onto their HDD and then getting upset they can't play it.

And that's what we were going for haha.

As far as attack styles this is what I've had/seen/know of so far:

Sword + Shield

Dual Swords

Two-Handed Sword

Dual Daggers

Unarmed

Two-Handed Trident

Dual Tridents*

Two-Handed Hammer*

Dual Hammers

The *s note ones I have not seen recruits have yet.

Looking forward to more details. I noticed that in the DCC2 guide that they made all achievement "online" even though most of them are done alone, though you must be connected to the online server.

I prefer SP/MP in the details, as having servers doesn't make it an "online" achievement, if it's done alone. Also, if you donwloaded the game, you have a connection, you just can't play unless you're online.

Anyways, good luck, can't wait until you update the "time to complete". Hopefully you show the difference in time to complete if you play for free and/or spend $10-$20, as it might be worth the difference to some people.

There will be almost no difference for anyone spending $10-20. There is no "win button" character to buy or anything. You keep posting about how this game is "pay to win" but did you even play it yet, man? I WISH I could just spend $10 to get a sick character and progress with ease in the campaign, but it doesn't work like that. Everything you can access is tied to your fame level and the stuff you can buy with real money is slightly better than the other stuff, but that's with a big emphasis on "slightly."

The only noteworthy boosts you can buy with real money is getting lucky and finding a beast of a gladiator in the recruitment screen, which doesn't happen very often, or buying the fame/silver boosts in the "boosts" section of the equipment screen. These cost 20 gold each and only last for 5 fights. I think getting from level 7 to level 8 took something like 15-20 wins. How many wins is level 49-50 going to take, like 500? Buying a 200MSP boost that lasts for 5 fights out of 500 is an absurd proposition and, again, not very much of a "pay to win" button.

Easy way to defeat a Legend. Found this on TrueAchievements and it worked first time:

Fight Oenomaus in the first district. Hold the left stick down and spam X. Use the following equipment: Weapon-Rusty Gladii, Helmet-Helm of Dolo, Torso-Rusted Iron Sementatae, Legs-Leather Fascia).

I was able to defeat him with a 36 rated dual sword fighter.

This works. And I also have another method.

Easy Wins

But if you have a Turbo Controller buy a Dual Dagger styled Gladiator from the Recruit station(i recruited a guy named Maximus) then Turbo Down the :ybut: button and Hold Toward your opponent. You will keep doing a spin slash attack. Defensive type foes such as Shield and Sword/Spear stand no chance against it. I even toppled some Trident users without any issues when using this method. It should work against other foes with different fight styles but I can confirm it works on the turtles the best. Try to alternate between the spin attack and :ybut:,:ybut:,:ybut: attacks since they hit grounded opponents. You also want to start fights off trying to get near your foe before doing this.

Also for Well-Versed in Weaponry apparently you can remove weapons from your fighters to make them go Barehand. I though it was a fight style all along but for those who don't have the achievement yet, just select a gladiators weapon then scroll to the very left and hit :abut: to remove it to make them go into Barehand style. Then win a match in one of the Extremus district(easiest fights) while barehanded. All of these other fight styles, you can find by recruiting more gladiators. You can simply delete the gladiator if you don't need them afterward(hit A on them, RB twice then press A).

Wish I knew this before, I would have had the achievement long ago.

Anyone managed to get Vidi,Vici,Veni achie?

Have executed several enemies alredy, but still nothing :(

It seems that you need to have an execution boost on for that achievement to pop.

You don't need it for the 25 executions, though, as my achievement popped when I didn't have one on.

You have to equip a "Finishing move"-boost in order to unlock the achievement. When you enter the Ludus and select your character the boost will be selectable at the very first slot. You should have "Hold still" 5 times for free for your very first character. In a fight: Just make sure you manage to Max out your frenzy, I would suggest picking a weak opponent. You max it out by hitting the enemy and not getting hit yourself.
