Introduction

Magna Carta 2 is a Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG) with a free-action battle system similar to Infinite Undiscovery. It has some unique battle features that help it stand out though. I suppose it is technically a KRPG since it was made by a Korean company, but as genres go, it is right in line with most JRPG on the market.

The only thing you'll need before starting your playthrough if you only want the original 1000 is the Quest Guide. I will include the locations of the three recipes that can be found only in chests inside that walkthrough to simplify things. However, if you want the full 1240, you'll also need to consult the Weapons guide.

Downloadable Content

If you plan on getting the full 1240, purchase the Magnacarta 2 Bonus Pack for 400 Microsoft Points before beginning your game. Make sure you do this BEFORE collecting all the weapons in-game, as there may be a bug that will not give you the achievement just by buying the DLC after you've got all the in-game stuff, even though that still meets the requirement for the achievement. If you want, you can watch the Live Dramas right away from the main menu, but I'd suggest saving them until you are familiar with all the characters. Unless of course you don't care about that.

If you don't care about playing the game "pure," this content is also fabulous for powering through quickly. The extra weapons that you are given have ginormous damage output, killing most of the enemies and bosses in the first half of the game in just a few hits.

Play the game

Well, this is actually the only step to getting the entirety of gamerscore since there is no end-game component, secret dungeons, multiple playthroughs or anything like that. If you follow the Quest Guide and Weapons Guide diligently to complete all the quests, grab the few items that are found specifically in chests and collect every weapon, you will easily have all the achievements. One of the simpler JRPG lists for sure! Be sure to do Chain Breaks whenever possible though, and follow some of the tips for the skill mastery achievements if you're going to try for those in a single playthrough.

Learn Co-op Technique for Juto & Zephie.

You will learn Imperial Blade through story progression just before leaving for Darkblade Fortress. You do not have to use it for the achievement to unlock.

To perform a co-op technique, the two characters involved will need to have the correct weapons equipped (for this specific one Juto needs a 2-handed sword and Zephie needs her fan), then initiate a chain between the characters (see "500 Chain Breaks") and finally press :dright: with at least 5 Kan in reserve for both characters.

Master Rue's Shuriken skill tree.

To completely "master" a skill tree, you have to purchase all skills, stat bonuses and upgrades, as well as learn all co-op techniques.

The best way to do this with little issue is to simply not use any of your SP until you have amassed about 700. At this point, save your game. Now spend all your SP and master a tree for each person. Reload your previous save, then master the other tree. Be aware that some of the co-op techniques are only learned through quests, so wait until you have all those before doing this.

To completely master both skill trees for everyone at the same time, you will need roughly 1400 SP per person. This is nearly impossible, since after level 65, the experience you gain vs. the experience required to level up will cause hours of grinding for a single level. Even with the methods listed in the next paragraph, it is extremely difficult to pull off.

To speed this process up, there is an item called Pendant of Skill that adds +50% SP upon leveling up. You get one from Quest 48 and there is another in a chest just after rescuing Zephie in Belfort; as you descend the large sets of stairs, you will find a dead-end set of stairs on the eastern side with the chest. What you'll want to do is be diligent in checking when people will level and equip the item on them shortly before, then switch it over to the next closest person after the previous person levels up, and so on. You can couple this with Belt of Experience to help everyone level more often. There is also a special Kamond called "Seeker" which will add +30% SP upon leveling. You can equip multiple Seeker Kamonds on a weapon and they do stack. You get one free from Quest 33 and more can be purchased in Cota Mare, but only during Celestine's "coming of age" ceremony. They disappear after that.

Use Enhancements on a weapon.

You will first learn the ability to enhance weapons after a meeting in Abazet Port. You should by now have a few Kamonds collected, so open the menu and select the Enhancements option. From here you will have a list of weapons. Some do not have a board to fit Kamonds in to, so choose an appropriate weapon, then select an open slot and finally chose a Kamond to place into the weapon.

Obtain all item recipes.

All you have to do to unlock these achievements is collect the recipe, not actually create the item that it offers. These are gained mostly through quests and one boss, except three that are found in chests. Those are included in the Quest Guide as well. There are a total of 12 recipes to be collected. In the order you will find them:

  • Snow Crystal: Defeat the Werewolf Boss in Abazet Field.
  • Red Jewel: Complete the "A Tooth for a Tooth" quest.
  • Wizard's Rocket: Complete the "Gather Cursed Grass" quest.
  • Iron Heart: Complete the "Hunt the Fleeing Soldiers" quest.
  • Ring of Conquest: Complete the "Dunan Field's Seeds of Suffering" quest.
  • Proof of Soldier: Complete the "Find the Scout, Jeroha" quest.
  • Patience & Will: Complete the "Emergency Rescue" quest.
  • Golden Frog: Inside a chest to the north of all the tombstones in the Undersea Tunnel while looking for the Cota Mare war documents.

  • Reward for Effort: In another chest grouped with Golden Frog.
  • Ultimate Shot: Complete the "Ultimate Wonder Potion" quest.
  • Mark of the Hero: Complete the "Kill the Inferno" quest.
  • Perfect Ring: This is directly next to Malaccia for Quest 92. In the Ruhalt Plateau, head north over a bridge near the save pillar that can be found in a clearing east of Belfort and north of the Bluemoon settlement.

Complete 500 chain breaks.

This video from one of the game's producers explains this system very well. For a chain break to occur, you have to successfully perform the following steps in battle:

  1. Overdrive: Have a character use more Stamina than the total amount of Stamina they actually have.

  2. Chain State: Use the d-pad to switch leader away from the person in Overdrive status.

  3. Chain Drive: Again, use more Stamina than you have available with this second person before the original person recovers.

If either leader in the above steps is knocked down, the chain will end and you will have to begin again. Likewise, you can not use items or switch away from Combat mode with either character.

The best combination I found for this is Argo and Juto. Both of them store their Kan internally so it is always available, whereas others need the Kan to be in the air around them which can take some time to build. Don't have either person on focused attack strategy, that way each one can build toward overdrive on different enemies, then unleash their overdrives back to back without getting in each others way or killing the mob too quickly.

The best enemy to grind for these on are either the Phongs or Mighty Lappers outside Abazet. Since they take almost no damage, you can get a whole bunch of Chain Breaks on each enemy before they die. Don't have Zephie in your party when fighting Phongs and don't use Argo's Armor Break against the Lappers though, or they become vulnerable and die quickly.

Again, these all require that you have purchased the DLC pack mentioned in the Road Map. However, these are a bit more difficult in that you have to collect every weapon in the game. There ARE missable weapons, namely because of story progression when shops upgrade their stock, getting rid of weaker weapons. This occurs for both Abazet and Cota Mare. Be sure to purchase every weapon available at a shop ASAP when you come to it, and check upon every new arrival in a city.

If you need to raise money for a group of purchases at a shop, grind away on enemies and complete quests. There is also accessories with "Sacrifice" in the name that will increase SID gain, as well as Kamonds called Golden Clover.

All the weapon locations can be found in chronological order in this thread.

To unlock the achievements, you have to have all the weapons in your inventory, so DO NOT SELL ANY WEAPON, EVER! The only exception to this is the "Wooden Sword" which is Juto's starting weapon. This is removed from your inventory once he grows a pair and starts using real blades. Losing this item does not affect the achievement in any way. From then on though, you need to keep everything.

on the dlc achievements for collecting all weapons...i didn't buy them all either, and not only that...i sold some of the older weapons. i'm guessing that you have to have them all in inventory to get the achievement....which sucks, lol. i won't be able to check the game until later....do vendors keep weapons sold back to them?

I doubt they would have anything you sold to them, just whatever they normally stock for sale. Which I'm hoping just expands as the game goes on and doesn't get overwritten like in many games. I know I didn't buy some stuff early on, so if those shops upgraded and got rid of their weaker weapons, I'll have to start over.

Yup, I'm officially starting over myself. I will be keeping this save file though to make it easier on myself to finish up the Chain Breaks and the other set of skill mastery achievements.

I updated the guide quite a bit today with tips on how to do the skill mastery achievements in one playthrough, though it is a bit involved. I also added the DLC achievements.

Luckily for everyone that may use this guide in the future, starting over will give me a fresh start to work on the Weapons Guide for the DLC achievements.

Just for note, as best as I can tell, you will need to start with a fresh game to have any chance of getting the weapon achievements.

After downloading the DLC, the new weapons did not appear in my exisiting save game inventory. When I started a new game I did receive a message that the DLC was activated and when I was able to view my inventory, all 12 were present.

On a side note, Thanks Pants Party, love all your guides.

Nice guide so far Pants. I'm getting this game this weekend so I'll be making good use of it. So you recommend getting the DLC right away? If I don't get the DLC and start the game, will I need to do another playthrough?

no...you can wait on the dlc if you want....just be sure to obtain all weapons for every character. what happened with me..i sold some, and didn't buy a few when they were available at merchants. you'll eventually need the dlc weapons to get the achievements obviously.

I had the opposite experience. I downloaded the DLC and then loaded my save (I was already on Disc 2) and all the weapons were there. Of course, I had missed earlier normal weapons in Abazet so I started over anyway, but the DLC ones do show up for game saves you started before you bought the DLC.

And thanks for the compliment. :)

@Filter: I would get the DLC right away. You don't have to use the super weapons they give you if you want to play the game for real, but you'll have them in store at any point if you get stuck and need a little boost for a boss or something. ;)

I'm using them right now just to get back to where I was on Disc 2, then I'll probably equip normal stuff and continue on.

I have a question. I just past old fox canyon and reached cota mare. I didn't buy the weapons at Abazet. The next time I go to Abazet, would the beginning weapons be there so I can buy, or should I just start over?

If you don't know, how soon would I be going to Abazet, so I can check. I need to go rescue some people while I left the princess at cota mare. If it won't take too long I might as well continue and hope for the best. If not, I probably should just start over.

You don't need to get the DLC to get the original achievements.

Now I don't like the fact that when getting the DLC, the achievements it has requires more work for the regular game to get the achievements. What's next? Another DLC which requires you to open all treasure chests or collect every item?

Is there any stealing in this game? I don't want to miss a weapon because I was supposed to steal it from a specific boss and now I can no longer get it. Anything like that? I assume everything can just be bought from a shop.

Thanks for all the great work on the guide so far!

There is no stealing. Weapons are only found by defeating bosses, completing quests, opening chests and buying in shops.

On your chronological weapon guide thread is that the complete list of non-dlc weapons or is that what the list looks like so far as if there is more non-dlc weapons than the 19 already listed. Sorry if i worded that wrong.

That is definitely still a work in progress. After each weapon it shows the progress for that character. IE "Juto 1/21" means that is the first of his 21 weapons.

You're still ok. On your second visit to Cota Mare, the shops still has all its original weapons. I will put a list on the Weapons Guide of when things become unavailable.

I think it's a scam that you NEED to buy the DLC to get the original achievements. DLC achievements should be DLC-related (like GTA IV).

As eektor said, you don't need the DLC for the original 1000. The weapons achievements require weapons from the original game, but they are all from the extra 240 gamerscore. You can get 1000 gamerscore without any DLC.

Hey Pants i thought u might want to add this to the Guide if you wanted. But i was playing yesterday i was thinking that getting 500 chain breaks seems like a pain seeing how i didn't even get my 100 till almost disk 2.

So i was fighting on of those Phong or the Pophong(stonger ones) and realized seeing how they only take 1 damage an attack you can repeatedly do chain breaks with Juto and Argo.

Now i know Zephi some times take it shield away so if you have say anyone else they take a long time to kill and you can get at least 50 chain breaks per enemie.

This is just incase one you dont get a lot of chain breaks because your to high level or eveything just dies to fast or two you suck at chain breaks(which i dont).

Good tip, soop! The Mighty Lappers are also a great enemy since you can't hurt them unless Argo breaks their shell.

After restarting, I am already back at Dunan Hill, so I'm making excellent progress back to where I was before the DLC was added. The Weapons guide is current to just before Dunan Hill and the Quest guide is complete to where I was on my original save file, just before Ruhalt Basin. I can't play tonight (boosting Damnation), but I'm off work tomorrow, so I'll get a lot done then.

I missed talking to hwan on the battlefield and cannot go back and im at cota mare now. Should i ef this playthrough and restart?
