Batman Assault on Arkham 9/10

DC has done an amazing job with their animated movie series. This one had more focus on the villains (Suicide Squad) than Batman but it fleshed them out and gave them personality which I think many comic movies tend to miss out on and just give us the generic villain.

You gave Her a lower rating than The Hobbit? I need unsubscribe to this thread ASAP. Peter Jackson is a hack, Spike Jonze is a visionary.

Just watched it too and I'd give the same rating. Definitely have to watch it a few more times to get it all together as crazy as all the different characters are.

And I thought The Hobbit was about 3/10, but have never even heard of "Her"... so there are things called opinions and we are all entitled to them.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Ah well, where do I begin? I have been waiting for this movie for nine years, that's right it has been nine long years since the original Sin City came out. I love the first one, it was a good, stylish homage to film noir which adopted it's source material surprisingly well.

There was so such time between the two that the hype just kept building, as least for me. A Dame to Kill For is no way a bad movie, but it could have done a lot more to improve and expand the overall Sin City universe. With newcomers like Josh Brolin, Eva Green, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt the acting talent was off the charts and the acting, as a whole, might have been better than the first, but the intersecting story lines were not as brutal and the characters weren't as interesting as the predecessor. The ones that kept me interested were Green and Levitt's characters because they were fresh. I could probably go on and on about what Rodriguez could have done better but I won't.

But one thing though, Eva Green my goodness. She is one of the most beautiful women on the planet.

TL;DR A Dame to Kill For is a pleasant ride for fans of the original and holds true to it's campy violence and film noir vibe.

7.5/10

Some people have awful opinions. That's my opinion, at least. Some people call their girlfriends "Bae," I'd rather not associate myself with those people. If in your opinion "Bae" is cool, just please let me know so that i could avoid all of your future opinions. Slavery used to be a popular opinion, with a very high approval rating. That changed. I don't really respect people who have a high opinion of Peter Jackson and Michael Bay. Those people are the reason production companies are giving these guys millions of dollars to create their trash, think about all that wasted money. Think of all the mouths it could feed. But no, the American general public absolutely neeeeeeeeeeds fucking more Lord of the Rings movies. In fact, let's take a 300 page book and turn it into a fucking trilogy, that way we can make 3 times as much money out of these suckers. It's horrible, and I'm amazed at how many people fall for that shit.

I know what I'm saying is controversial, and will probably ignite a large debate on this forum that I won't take part in, but that's just my opinion, and I'm a very opinionated person.

Opinion, opinion, opinion, opinion, onion.

Lucy 6/10 Run of the mill release with the sos for a story line. I wouldn't say it's bad but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, unless you literally want to stare at Scarlett Johansson for an Hour and a half.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - 8/10

It may not have the same impact that the first one brought up when it first released, but I'm just very glad that this sequel didn't turn out to be bad at all.

The visuals are just as good as the original, everyone did a great job in their roles, and the new characters/stories went out pretty solid.

Only gripes are that some of the dialogue was pretty weak, and at one point it got anticlimactic towards the end.

Overall it was over-the-top, violent, stylized and more entertaining than I expected for a sequel like this, I had a pretty good time with A Dame to Kill For, if you enjoyed the first Sin City a lot I don't think you'd be disappointed with this one.

This is hands down Robert Rodriguez's best film since....Sin City 1.

Yeah man, I'm a fan of Christopher Nolan, Momento was awesome. Batman Begins bored me to shit. The Dark Knight was great, only because of Heath Ledger's performance, but The Dark Knight Rises just felt pretentious. Couldn't stand it. I really enjoyed Inception, but disliked all the publicity it got, people thought it was better than it actually was, which was like an 8.5/10. Really excited to see what Interstellar will be like. Gained a lot of respect for Matthew McConaughey after Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, so hopefully his performance will make that film top notch. That alongside Nolan's creativity could result in A+ filmmaking

I don't have a top 5, but here are five movies I've watched more than 5 times, because I enjoyed them so much, lol.

American History X
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Hobo With a Shotgun
Inglourious Basterds
Fight Club

But, there are certainly a lot more that could have been up there, it's tough to choose favourites. Pretty much anything by the Coen brothers I'll enjoy, same with Charlie Kaufman. I think Drive deserves a spot up there, and Team America.

Godzilla ... 8/10

I take off two points because they killed Walter White far too early in the movie and he was the the most talented actor in the film. Other than the acting issues, the film is awesome.

I can say this though, after spending 30-40 hours this week playing Diablo III, all three of the "monsters" just looked like D3 mobs

Edit: Turns out it's a two movie night ...

Toy Soldiers ... 9/10

No terrorist takes over Samwise's school and gets away with it. Too bad they killed Westley Crusher ;(

Real score = 7/10 ... But I give it 2 bonus points for nostalgia!

Those are some great picks even though I've never seen Hobo with a Shotgun. I probably couldn't narrow down a top 5 either because I love so many. But movies that I watch repeatedly and it makes me feel like the first time:

1. Fight Club
2. Cidade de Deus (City of God)
3. American Beauty
4. The Silence of the Lambs
5. Pulp Fiction

I'll watch anything David Fincher or Taratino.

Hobo With a Shotgun is a Canadian exploitation film. The director (Jason Eisener) got money for production after he submitted a fake trailer for it in a grindhouse trailer contest and won. It wasn't too popular with critics, because of its silliness, but it has a dedicated cult following, and if you really understand what the director was going for, you'd see that it was a masterpiece. Probably the most deranged and disturbing movie you'll ever see, but it holds some good laughs as well. Most of the time you don't know whether to laugh or feel sick to your stomach. It's definitely a fun film.

Carrie (the 2013 remake) ... 8/10

It's better than the original film, if only because it seems a bit more true to the book. Still, just like when I was a kid and read the book, I was rooting for Carrie the whole time. I definitely enjoyed the little twist at the gravesite at the end.

I'm probably one of the biggest Stephen King fans out there, almost read his whole bibliography, re-reading the Dark Tower, and oh my god, that Carrie remake was just horrible. I almost walked out of the theatre. Chloe Moretz was not very believable, the directing was extremely poor, and the whole thing was cheese upon cheese of cheesy.

EDIT: Just saw Guardians of the Galaxy. 7.5/10

It was fun. That's about it.

The Counselor - 3.5/10

First thing it needs to be said, the movie has a few positives, including some good actors giving good performances (for the most part), the direction and choreography is around pretty, and it has some great violent moments. Brad Pitt had the best death scene in the movie easily, oh spoiler btw but who the fuck cares. The movie is fucking boring, bland and pointless, the writing and story was more than uninteresting, it lacked big time, and it was way too stretched out from how little it had to offer. Sure it get's a little better in the second half of the movie, but overall this is just a big disappointment coming from a talented director (Alien, Gladiator) and a masterful book writer (No Country for Old Men, The Road).

Sucks because that cast is really strong outside of Cameron Diaz.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 10/10

At this point this is the second Wes Anderson film I've seen, and like I said with my experience with Moonrise Kingdom I knew that he had a unique and original style of directing film as I've seen then. But to be honest, The Grand Budapest Hotel may be one of the biggest surprises I've seen this year.

The direction it took, along the tone and style of it, it in my opinion it was brilliant filmmaking, another thing that took me by surprise was the dialogue and the route the narrative took, the writing was incredible, it was much funnier than I thought it would be and it was also unexpectedly suspenseful at parts.

The chemistry between M. Gustave and Lobby Boy was fantastic, all the actors did a phenomenal job, the effects the film used where great, etc.

The only thing and flaw I had with the movie was that it felt a little repetitive with the techniques of jokes and direction, though it completely fit the cartoon-quirky feel of the movie. Also for the fact that the ending felt a bit rushed, but saying that it didn't changed the experience at all, same way with what I though about Spike Jonze's Her and loving that film despite the little problem I've had with it's ending.

Overall as Wes Anderson films goes, I've love it way more than Moonrise Kingdom and makes me want to check out other films of his even more, I'm glad to say that this is one of the best films I've seen this year.
