ckleckner
thinking about LoS and the older castlevania games my theory on the backstory would be that Gabriel becomes Dracula but not before have a son that he knows nothing about and then kills him and his son would also become a vampire but tries to destroy him. meanwhile draculas grand kid grows up and goes after Dracula and defeats him or so he thought at the time. I think it sounds like a plausible backstory using original castlevanias and LoS as a reference
Quid Squid
Did you play Mirrors of Fate? It explains a lot you could benefit from in connecting the stories (unless they do some sort of intro sequence to cover both games).

ThePumpkinKing
Gabriel = Dracula as explained in LoS DLC Trevor is Gabriel and Marie's son, hidden from Gabriel after his birth and trained by the brotherhood. Trevor, years later has a son, Simon. Shortly thereafter, learns the truth about Gabriel/Dracula, and heads out to kill him. After being fatally wounded by Dracula, he revealed that he was Gabriel's son. Dracula, overcome with grief, cuts his own wrist, and pours his blood into Trevor's dead mouth, thus saving him the only way he can by turning him. Trevor is "reborn" as Alucard. Years later, Simon enters the castle looking for revenge on Dracula for the slaughter of his village and family years earlier. Meets Alucard, they join forces and defeat Dracula. But they do not kill him. That about sums up what MoF. Ps. Original Castlevanias have nothing to do with LoS. Completely separate verses and canon.
