Best And Worst Bands To See Live

Mines won't be metal like the majority but I have been to alot of concerts:

Best

Pearl Jam (shocker, I know, lol...9 times, yes 9 times)

Ben Harper

Rage Against the Machine

Alice in Chains

Dave Matthews Band

The Ramones

Korn (they are pretty good live)

311

Tool (incredible live)

Worst I've seen:

Incubus (their equipment was horrible)

Godsmack (another equipment failure)

Linkin Park (do these bands have decent roadies??)

Staind/Limp Bizkit (along time ago, it was a drunken disaster)

Ziggy Marley (I was shocked at how shitty he sounded live)

Most of the bands I listed as worst, were mainly because of the equipment malfunctions....They def. sound better in the studio. Not to mention a drunken Aaron Lewis constantly slurring words and forgetting lines.

Best:

Pearl Jam

Dave Matthews Band

Linkin Park (I saw them before Hyrbrid Theory became popular. $15!!)

Outkast (their music is made to be performed live, saw them twice in one year)

Lifehouse

Disturbed

Britney Spears (pre-meltdown Britney, my lady friend got the tix as a b-day present, Brit even came out in the all diamond suit she wore in her Toxic video! dont care what anyone says she is one hell of an amazing entertainer)

Ben Harper (saw him in a small venue at the Fox Theater in Boulder and it was amazing!)

Jack Johnson

Worst:

Avenged Sevenfold (no encore, played all the stupid new shit and hardly any old stuff)

Tool (lighting was awesome, mood was shit, and Maynard had too many drugs because his singing and lack of motivating the crowd was goddamn awful)

50 Cent (I didnt pay for the tix but this is easily the worst concert I have EVER been to)

Dont get me wrong I love A7X and Tool but they were just freaking awful live.

I should have added Jack Johnson to mine as well. He is amazing live. I'm assuming you saw Tool more present day? I have friends that said they sucked at more recent shows. I saw them when they were touring for Aenima and it was a great show. I haven't seen them since. I saw linkin park in 04 and they had way to many technical difficulties onstage. Again, I have some friends that have said they usually put on a decent show but sound at a live show is something important to me. PJ seems to nail it perfectly everytime ;)..Those official bootleg cds sound just flawless. I am shocked that some of those are actually "live" because they sound so incredible.

Tool (lighting was awesome, mood was shit, and Maynard had too many drugs because his singing and lack of motivating the crowd was goddamn awful)

Maynard doesn't motivate the crowd anymore. If you're lucky enough to be seeing Tool live, get your own damn self motivated. I do wish he was "old" Maynard, the Maynard I have seen in tour videos from Ænima and Lateralus tours, though.

Anywho, I've not seen many bands live (unfortunately), but here are the ones I enjoyed and didn't.....

Best:

Tool (seen 'em twice)

Dethklok

Buckethead

That 1 Guy

Godsmack

Rob Zombie

Metallica (not seen them live yet -- show is on Oct. 18th -- but I know it will be awesome and I will have an nerdgasm)

Worst:

Metl-Banana (fuckers tired to destroy my ears -- and not in a good way -- before seeing Tool for the first time)

Best:

Dethklok/Chimaira (Dethklok obviously shone above Chimaira, but I thought they were still pretty good)

AC/DC / The Answer (The Answer didn't have much time, but it was good)

Van Halen (06-07 tour, Eddie played a 14-minute long Eruption)

Jounrey/Night Ranger (saw them last week, AMAZING show, new vocalist for Journey blew my mind)

Styx

Worst:

Soilent Green (first opener for Dethklok, they sucked it up big time)

Def Leppard (came on after Styx and sucked in comparison)

I've got tickets for Metallica (along with openers Lamb of God and Gojira) in October, and I'm making plans for the Dethklok/Mastodon (along with two lesser known bands) in November. Hopefully I'll come back with some more bands to add to my "Best" list.

EDIT: Hey Saiyu, looks like you're from NC as well. That's the same date I'm seeing Metallica. Did you see Dethklok at the Myrtle Beach House of Blues last year as well?

Pretty damn hard when I was motivated but

A) had to pay $90 to see them in a shitty venue in Denver when they could have had an epic show at Red Rocks... but no Coors Ampitheater/Fiddlers Green

B) Jackass was stumbling everywhere and mumbling the lyrics

C) They came out like 30 minutes late

D) The encore was 2 songs and shitty ones at that

E) They played more off of 10,000 Days which is fine but out of the old songs they played they missed quite a few of their classic ones.

I will never pay to see Tool live ever again. Love the band to death but they can kiss my ass for this shitty showing they had when I saw them.

The best:

Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl is the nucleus of the entertainment obviously with Taylor Hawkins right in there sometimes I wish Nate and Chris would be a little more active with the joking around. Hands down the best concert I had ever been too, ACC March 23rd 2008, never forget the day...mind you I think the 23rd is the wrong day lol. Dave Grohl just had so many jokes throughout the night his one line that has stuck with me was when he got fucking Rush! yes, Rush! to come out and play with Taylor Hawkins on drums, played YYZ. Dave Grohl said "Man that was fucking beautiful, I cried man teards during sound check earlier, they're tears that come in under your eyelids....AND I HAD A BONER AT THE SAME TIME!" The place roared. The crowd was in it the entire night, he'd throw off lyrics to like 20,000 people and it was just amazing, had a nice intimate acoustic set in the middle. It was the epitome of entertainment)

Godsmack (I'll keep this short and sweet, good fun hard rock)

the worst

Hifi Handgrenades (crappy powerpop/punk rock, all the songs sound the same)

Whole lotta Metal in this thread. \m/

I can't believe people actually remember bad concerts, though. I really do try to purge the things from my mind.

Best concerts I had ever been to that didn't involve a guy with a guitar and a guy with a piano playing chords as fast as they can would be:

-Five Iron Frenzy at their final Rocketown show in Nashville

-Barenaked Ladies with Steven Page still in the group up in Cincinnati

-Staple at Ichthus Festival in Asbury, KY.

-Phish at Bonnaroo 09

Oh, I suppose I can remember a few I don't like.

-Kutless - liked their early albums, doesn't have a good "feel" live, though

-Third Day - Wasn't a fan to start with, and they're insanely, technically talented guitar players, but it just feels so dull

Man, I guess that's what I get for going to festivals without being completely coherent. I can't remember anyone at those things.

Gallows were absolutely horrible live. Hated every minute of it.

Machine head were insane, as we're Poison The Well and Fightstar. Deftones had the best show ever, and Slipknot weren't bad. My Mind's Weapon, from Aberdeen have an awesome live show...Check them out if you can.

My two favourite bands play live in December within a few days.

Firstly Madness, then Depeche Mode.

Seen both live several times and they put on a great show each time. DM can be a bit morbid but how can anyone not like " enjoy the silence "

Seen Oasis again this year, maybe for the last time, very good as usual. Sorry also forgot the Prodigy.

Worst band was probably the Manic Street Preachers and i like their music.

I want to see "All Time Low" "The Killers" and "Blink 182" live, im not sure if they are any good live? anyone seen them bands before live?

I saw All Time Low and am seeing them again.

Not a fan of their college humour. (Replacing lyrics with the words 'dick' or 'tits') But they were pretty entertaining, if you can get past the teenage girls screams.

Yes sir, I am. And yes, I did. I was about four or five people back from the stage, a bit to the right of center. I'll hopefully be going to either the Dethklok show you mentioned or the Megadeth one that is taking place the Monday before Thanksgiving.

*shrugs* Oh well. Both times I have seen them, they have been spot on, Maynard was been pretty much flawless, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Cool deal man. When I saw Dethklok I was right behind the sound booth, AWESOME spot to stand if you're there for the music and want to avoid the moshing haha. Nobody to block your view and full scope of the stage.
