Introduction:

Lost Planet 3 is a third-person shooter that is set before the events of Lost Planet 1 and 2. You play as Jim Peyton who leaves his family on earth to pursue work on E.D.N III as a freelancer for Nevec. I like to say this game was feeling like Dead Space and Dead Space 3 like Lost Planet. This is because this game is darker/gloomier, has a more suspense feel and “scariness” with the whole Akrid popping out randomly and the eerie and creepy music. Dead Space 3 like Lost Planet because it looked more action based and added ‘snow’ as a big part of the game, both came out the same year. If you thought Isaac was an errand boy wait until you play as Jim…. Not only is this game a prequel to the first Lost Planet, but it was developed by Spark Unlimited instead of Capcom (like a lot of Capcom’s recent sequel games). This game plays and looks completely different than the previous games. It has a westernized feel, but the concept is generally Lost Planet. Although it is not the Asian style we’ve come to know and love, this game has fresh gameplay and is still fun in its own way.

Step 1 - Campaign:

You’ll want to play on hard so you don’t have to beat the game twice, don’t worry hard difficulty isn’t too bad and shouldn’t give too many problems. You’ll be getting all campaign achievements including: collectibles, upgrades, bestiary and mission achievements in this play through. My guide will go over everything you’ll need to know and I’ll provide YouTube videos for extra help on collectables. The collectables are pretty well hidden and can be missed by even the most thorough of searchers, like myself, especially for Audio and Text Logs. So check those videos out. Also many of the collectables you can’t even access/obtain until different parts of the game when certain tools/equipment is unlocked, so keeping track of everything can be a little overwhelming.

Here are the tools/equipment that you’ll need to get all collectables

Player Upgrades:

  • Grappling Hook - (Unlocked during ‘Escort the Pod’ Mission in ACT 1, unlocks early on in the game)
  • Zip-Line Attachment - (Unlocks during ‘DNA Tagger’ Mission in Act 1)
  • Magnetic Grappling Hook – (Unlocks during ‘Test the Grappling Hook’ Mission in ACT 2, this will be pretty far into the game right before leaving ‘The Camp Of The Forgotten’, you might have noticed red x’s on grappling points these are spots that need the Magnetic Grappling Hook and after obtaining it, they will change to purple points)
  • Albino Tarkaa Attractor – (Unlocks by talking to the Ethologist in ‘The Camp Of The Forgotten’, in ACT 2)

Rig Upgrades:

  • Winch – (Unlocks/Bought at Gale’s shop for free during the ‘Upgrade Time’ Mission, the Winch shoots out a cable from your rig that’s attached to your claw. When prompted with the button (LB) it’ll attach to the wall/rock then you will zip-line to that point)
  • Extended Winch – (Unlocks/Bought at Gale’s shop after completing ‘Get To The Source’ Mission in ACT 2, this will add 50% length to your Winch, which will open up previously inaccessible areas. I think there’s only two spots that use this, one on ‘Bishop’s Wake’ on the west side of the map in the open area, giving you specialized parts(s) and t-energy canister(s). The other spot is on ‘The Killing Fields’ on the far east side of the map, this area has a t-energy post, which should be your last one for the achievement)

Note: Please read the "Geneticist" achievement. Some bosses need to be tagged and you only have so many opportunities to do so (some you'll only have one chance to tag them, if you miss it and don't reload save right away, then you'll have to restart your campaign and re-tag everything)… Other achievements can be missed, but you can use the ‘Before the Storm’ save that is made for you towards the end of the game. This save can be used if you need to do other missed achievements, but not for "Geneticist". This game doesn’t have a manual save and saves usually when loading up areas (blue circle at bottom right of screen). It’ll make 2 save slots, one tilted ‘Latest’ and one ‘Previous’ and eventually ‘Before the Storm’ which won’t overwrite like the other two).

There’s a glitch that occurred during the ‘Access Base Armory’ Mission in Pickett’s Folly – Security Installation in ACT 2. The game wasn’t prompting the X button to repair the door to leave the installation. I tried everything and couldn’t get out of the area. Reloading my latest and previous save didn’t fix the problem. This was right after ‘Stay Alive’ Objective, during the ‘Repair the Entrance’ Objective. I’m not sure if this is a known glitch or I was just extremely unlucky, but I ended up restarting the entire game. I would suggest staying near the door when you’re fighting off the Wardeyes. This door is directly behind the turret that you come up with on a lift in the middle of the room. If the objective to ‘Repair the Entrance’ is active, but you can’t repair (the button prompt doesn’t appear) then reload the checkpoint or ‘Previous’ save if that doesn’t work. After repairing the door, then go ahead and search the armory/area and get collectibles, etc.

Step 2. Multiplayer:

The longest multiplayer achievement is "Sphere Complete" and this will require you to earn XP or Zenny (please see achievement for more details). Depending on how you do the multiplayer achievements it can take you anywhere from 8-25+ hours. If you’re boosting (with one other person) the achievements will probably take around 8 hours, but that will only be for one account. So the folks that have a dummy account, extra box and a second game would only really benefit from boosting. I personally did the multiplayer achievements legit and found the multiplayer to be pretty dam fun and competitive. It took me 13 hours to complete the multiplayer achievements (check your play time in lobby). Plenty of people still play this game (as of September 2014) so you can still get games if you play during the day and weekends. People were always joining and filling my matches (including 5 on 5 games), this would pose a problem for boosting because you would have randoms joining and ruining your session. Plus if you do the multiplayer achievements legit you’ll feel more accomplished and your achievements would be worthy and have more value. But do as you will, to each their own, this is just a suggestion.

Unneeded DLC:

This is only if you are doing the multiplayer achievements legit and want more weapons that are slightly alternated, but provide a competitive edge. I found them to be cool and useful, and also more characters are available.

The marketplace currently has 7 DLC packs to purchase. Three of them are Multiplayer Map Packs: 1, 2 and 3 (all three include two maps and are completely unneeded). Then we have the Assault Pack, Punisher Pack, Freedom Fighter Pack and the Survival Pack. The Assault Pack comes with 3 close range multiplayer weapons and a vague “powerful single player rig upgrades”. The Punisher Pack comes with 3 long range multiplayer weapons and a vague “powerful single player rig upgrades”. The Freedom Fighter Pack comes with 5 multiplayer characters including: Gale (future), Grace, Braddock, Diaz and Hunk from Resident Evil. Then we have the Survival Pack which includes all content from the last three previously mentioned packs. This is the best deal for your money and you’ll get everything. Oh, and about the vague “powerful single player rig upgrades” that is included in all 4 packs; it's two upgrades for your rig in single player. One is the ‘Pressurized Claw’ which increases crushing power by 25% and the second is ‘Tungsten Carbide Drill’ which increases damage to Akrid weak spots (bosses) by 25%.

Conclusion:

Lost Planet 3 is no groundbreaking game, but it kept me entertained and coming back for more for both the single and multiplayer. Getting all of the achievements isn’t very hard or time consuming, especially if you know the dedication and commitment that the first two Lost Planets required. Overall the achievements are a pretty fun list to complete. Give this game a try and you might just enjoy it.

Finished the Game on Hard Difficulty

Start your first playthrough on Hard difficulty. Not only is it available right away, but the game is pretty easy and doesn’t show too much concern or issues. Sometimes Akrid will gang up and kill you, but you’ll get a feel for the game and be flying threw it in no time. Plus the checkpoints/saves are pretty frequent so the game is forgiving, which helps on bosses.

Planted every Post

There are 6 t-energy posts, some require upgrades/tools to access them. These can be emptied later on for t-engery (2,000-5,000) after placing them. You’ll also get an upgrade from Gale during the ‘Upgrade Time’ mission in ACT 1. This upgrade is a t-energy detector that helps locate planting spots. When you’re close to a t-energy pocket, you’ll hear beeping and when you’re really close a hollow white silhouette of the post will be shown on your screen.

Roman gives you a mission to tag Akrid for research during the ‘Test The DNA Tagger’ in ACT 1. She gives you Specialty Ammo for your pistol (Hold X Button), shoot an untagged Akrid and remain aiming at it until the circle fills up. You can see your progress of DNA tagged Akrid in your Bestiary (Back Button). Make sure you keep track of which Akrid you’ve tagged, especially Bosses, some will only have one opportunity to be tagged.

  1. Akrid Egg (Can’t miss, main mission based)
  2. Tarkaa (Abandoned Base, During ‘Find A Way Out’ Mission in ACT 1)

Finished Kovac's Quests

Dr. Kovac is located in the Hangar Upper Level in ‘Coronis: Kovac’s Lab’. This part of the map is under construction (shows yellow wrench symbol on map) and isn’t available until after talking to Braddock during the ‘Investigate Com-Relay’ Mission in ACT 1. Kovac gives you quests to kill Akrid and collect their t-energy samples to determine if they’re pure enough for harvesting. He’ll give you one Akrid to hunt at a time and provide a ‘Sniffer’ that automatically collects t-energy samples. Some missions won’t be available right away and will need to be done in ACT 2. He’ll reward you with 2,000 t-energy and make Specialty Ammo available for purchase in the shop for each mission completed. He’ll also put a 3-d image of the Akrid currently being hunted on the table in front of him, if you need help identifying the Akrid.

*Note: You won’t be able to talk to Dr. Kovac about the next mission unless you have already bought the associated weapon that he’s providing Specialty Ammo for…. You can potentially get the first three missions done, one after another (assuming you have bought the weapons required).

  1. Sepia (20) - Unlocks Shotgun - Bounce Shot (If you talk to Dr. Kovac right away, you can get this while going to Diaz Cavern to empty the T-Post mission)
  2. Dongos (4) – Unlocks Assault Rifle - Incendiary Rounds (Can get right after Sepia mission, go to White Canyon Junction for all 4 Dongos)
  3. Goonroes (6) – Unlocks Hunting Rifle - Depleted Uranium Rounds (Can get right after Dongos mission, go to Bailey’s Crossing 4-6 will be near the t-post in the south cave and another 3 while doing the ‘Clear Frozen Pump Jacks For Credits’ Optional mission in Bailey’s Crossing as well)
  4. Tarkaa (10) – Valkyrie - Explosive Rounds (You’ll get to ACT 2 and the Camp Of the Forgotten, after finally returning to your base you can get the mission from Kovac and go to Marshall’s Gorge – Power Plant)
  5. Wardeyes Female/Male (5) – Unlocks P.I.G - Stinger Rounds (After Tarkaa mission, go to Pickett’s Folly – Security Installation)
  6. Suwankaa (1) – Unlocks Grenade Launcher - Biotox Rounds (After Wardeyes mission, go to Marshall’s Gorge or Shackleton’s Peak)

Found all Mementos

Soichi will eventually give you an Optional Mission to ‘Find Four Mementos’ this is right before returning to Coronis and your old base. You’ll need the Magnetic Grappling Hook Upgrade, which is given to you by Mira once you return to the Camp Of the Forgotten after leaving the Security Installation. After collecting all four Mementos return them to Soichi and he’ll reward you with ‘Enhanced Vitality’ which increases your maximum life by 50%.

  1. Memento Of Colonel Mason Pickett (Pickett’s Folly, use winch to zip-line over and grapple up and you’ll see a magnetic grappling point above)
  2. Memento Of Silvia Herrera (Pickett’s Folly – Security Installation, where the single turret is in the middle of the room (on the lift you originally came up on) the magnetic point will be above a room on the ceiling)
  3. Memeto Of Juro Katsuragi (Marshall’s Gorge, winch over, rappel down the holes, grapple up a ledge, pass a footlocker, drop down a short ledge and you’ll see the magnetic point above on the left side)
  4. Memento Of Lagan Cherupara (Marshall’s Gorge – Power Plant, on an upper floor you’ll see a hole in the wall above, not the ceiling, not hard to find just grapple up to it)

http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/achievements/2312/5-hZvPA=.jpgMaster Huntsman 50 http://www.xboxachievements.com/images/site/gp-g.png

Purchased all Ethologist Upgrades

This will require you to buy all upgrades from the Ethologist by DNA tagging all 10 Albino Tarkaas. After getting this optional mission (he's located in the Camp Of the Forgotten) the Tarkaas will spawn where they’re supposed to (they will not be in their spots before activating the mission). He’ll provide you with a mating call to your wrist computer that constantly plays (you can’t hear it). This will cause the little Tarkaas to make noise when you’re close and keep them in place giving you unlimited time to tag the little guy. If you happen to accidently shoot the Tarkaa instead of tagging it with your Specialty Pistol Ammo he’ll die/run away, you can just reload the map and he’ll respawn.

Ethologist Upgrades:

  • Technique – Luckshot (Costs 2) Aiming reticule while blindfiring from cover
  • Technique – Quick Fingers (Costs 3) Improves weapon reload speed by 25%
  • Thermalized Suit (Costs 5) Improves health regeneration by 100%

Albino Locations:

  1. “Cross a flying fox to her perilous home near a groaning ravine.” (Coronis, Exit the hangar doors head left/West, go down the path and you'll see a big metal door/wall, stand next to it and look up the mountainside northwest) (If you’re having trouble use the winch to zip-line right above that metal door/wall, look back up and see if you can spot it)
  2. “An elevator reaches for a stormy sky – at its foot, look high.” (Marshall’s Gorge, use the winch to reach southeast ledge, drop down, enter the open garage, go past second door and look right up a rocky wall)
  3. “Seething Akrid cave with stalactite teeth – skyward is she found.” (White Canyon Junction – Diaz Cavern, enter cave southeast side of White Canyon Junction, clear out any enemies, in the open area look east where a Genessa was/is and look high up to find the Tarkaa)
  4. “T-ENG tank near our Forgotten home – go below to find her above.” (The Killing Fields, use winch to enter northeast cave, use magnetic grappling hook, drop off north side and go up stairs to the left, look up left)

Travel to Shackleton’s Peak and dock your rig, go up the stairs push the button and ride the lift to the top. Use the elevator down, head west and head back down the mountain. Going down a few flights of stairs, drop/grapple down, head around and grapple down another ledge (if you’ve left the snowy ground and entered a black-ish cave you’ve gone too far). Grapple again and then you’ll see the magnetic grappling point, continue forward and enter the cave to discover her fate.

This is pretty self-explanatory just win 25 matches, must be done in player matches (private matches don’t count). You’ll definitely get this achievement if you’re going for the rest (legit that is).

Won every Scenario

*This is an online achievement*

There’s 6 different scenarios all on different maps. Just win on each map, regardless of which faction you play as (Snow Pirate or Nevec). You only need one person on each team to start the match. On the Alpha Lair and Outpost maps, both teams collect a T-ENG Canister that is dropped from a Suwankaa or Tangee when killed, then delivered to a drop off (kinda like Capture the Flag). For Contact, Quarantine and Research Lab, Snow Pirates have to do map-based objectives, while Nevec prevents. Stronghold has Nevec escorting the Battlecat and the Snow Pirates try to stop them.

Killed 20 Wardeyes

*This is an online achievement*

This must be done in 3 on 3 Akrid Survival in player matches and you have to get 20 Wardeye kills in the first two waves/phases of the game. You can start the game with one other person, make sure you vote for the map Research Lab as it must be done on this map. Both waves/phases are Female Wardeyes and they kill you pretty quickly, especially since they love to gang up. Just try to take one out at a time, rush if you have to. The pulse rifle seems to be the most effective (the Driller specialty ammo rounds make it even more powerful, you can get two kills with one clip if you don’t miss). You have about 5-6 minutes before Wardeyes stop spawning; keep picking up ammo as there’s three packs in both phases. I used the Survivor ability and its upgrades and picked the ammo deployable. The disc grenades are great and can kill a Wardeye with both grenades if landed correctly. Then you can pick up an ammo pack and get two more discs. Press :back: to check your kills in the scoreboard.

Delivered T-Eng Canister 2 Times

*This is an online achievement*

This must be done on Alpha Lair or Outpost in Scenario mode in player match. You have to kill the Suwankaa or Tangee and pick up the canister dropped by them and deliver it to the enemies base. Then the next Akrid will spawn (rinse and repeat). You have to be the one that actually captures the canister, the first team to three captures wins the game, so two people (one on each team) can potentially get this achievement (unless you’re boosting, then its guaranteed of course). If you’re going for the "Top Dog" achievement, just capture all three.

This is pretty simple; just play on Stronghold in scenario mode in player match. It doesn’t matter which side you play as, but Nevec does spawn with the Battlecat. Get behind the Battlecat and push the button when prompted and you’ll climb on top of it. All you have to do is get a kill while riding on top, killing an enemy who is also riding the Battlecat counts.

Unlocked all Sphere Cells

*This is an online achievement*

This requires you to buy all 100 items in the sphere, you can access the sphere by pressing :xbut: in the multiplayer lobby or game lobby while waiting for a match to start. You have to purchase items with Zenny (like XP), which is earned for doing things in multiplayer matches (can only earn Zenny in player matches). The sphere consists of Characters, Weapons, Specialty Ammo, Upgrades for weapons, Abilities, Upgrades for abilities, Deployables and Deployable Upgrades. There’s also 13 skill items that require you to collect Emblems before being able to unlock them. Each item counts as 1% (there’s 100 items) and your rank is based off this and whatever your percent is that’s your rank (shows percentage in the sphere and rank next to your gamertag). Items costs anywhere from 8,000-35,000, characters costs the most. The total amount of Zenny needed to complete the sphere is around 1,300,000. You can earn anywhere from 10,000-40,000 Zenny a game depending on your methods, game mode and skill.

Earning Zenny:

Zenny is rewarded for varies actions and accomplishments. The most common way is from hurting enemies (shows Zenny being earned while damaging enemies). Both Akrid and players can earn you Zenny from damaging them, killing them gives you extra. You can earn Zenny from doing objectives and doing certain things. I would highly recommend equipping the Credit Booster ability ASAP as it will increase Zenny earned from damaging enemies and Emblems. The best way I found is playing ‘3 on 3 Akrid Survival’ there are 3 phases, the first two phases is unlimited waves of Akrid for about 5-6 minutes, so if you kill them fast you can earn good amounts of Zenny (I usually was able to earn 10,000+ on Research Lab). The 3rd and last phase is kinda like king of the hill or hard point. It puts a capture point on the map and if you capture and remain in the zone you and other teammates in the capture zone will get 20 (35 if you have the Credit Booster Ability equipped) Zenny every 1-2 seconds so this is by far the fastest way to earn Zenny. You have 5:30 minutes in the last phase and you can earn just about 2,000 Zenny a minute if you stay in the capture zone. So you can potentially earn around 10,000 just from staying in the zone itself, but that’s only if you stay in the zone the entire 5 minutes….. I was earning an average of 30,000 a game (legit), a bit less in other game modes, but I’m pretty dam good. My kill death ratio was almost always 20-25 kills and 0-6 deaths…. Anyways at the end of the game your total Zenny is displayed in a results page. This is where you can see your Emblems (kinda like ribbons) which can earn you quite a bit of Zenny. Emblems will be listed below. Continue reading for more help and details

*Note if the game has already started and everyone quits on the other team the game still continues and everything will still count. I guess because two of the phases are waves/phases. Then on the third phase you can just chill in the capture zone and get a free 10,000 Zenny. (Take advantage of this if you’re boosting with a partner, he can just join so you can start the game and then he can leave).

TIPS:

*If you’re boosting with a partner or have a dummy account, you can earn anywhere from 25,000-35,000 Zenny depending on your methods. Playing Akrid Survival is the best (like I mentioned above). You can just kill your partner/dummy while staying in the capture zone. (Contact map seems to be the best for this because you can use the sniper/rifle to headshot your partner/dummy, he’ll spawn straight across every time. You can stay in the capture zone near the doorway and headshot him right when his invulnerability/spawn shield comes off for the whole 5 minutes. Alternatively you can try to combo some Emblems into your game. I tried and tested pretty much everything, from using the faster repair ability and constantly repairing my turret/VS while my dummy constantly damages it, to reviving teammates…. The best method I found was supplying ammo to teammates, from the Ammo deployable. You’ll earn an Emblem worth 375 Zenny, this emblem only requires you to supply one team member’s ammo. So if you’re playing with others legit, you can rack up some t-energy by killing Akrid and just keep throwing ammo at your teammates. This emblem is rewarded not from a time limit or an ammo amount. All you have to do is throw it, it’ll give ammo ONCE, then give you the Emblem. Just keep throwing it over and over. But make sure they’re shooting off some ammo, as long as they’re missing one bullet from their reserve it will give you the emblem. If you have the Ammo deployable upgrades it should only cost 20 t-energy each throw.

Skill Unlocks (These are items that need to unlocked by collecting Emblems):

Mark Time Boost (Collect 10 Spotted Emblems) Teammate incapacitated marked enemy player

Range Boost (Collect 10 Cyberman Emblems) Hack enemy Deployable

Speed Boost (Collect 20 Cyberman Emblems) Hack enemy Deployable

Area Of Effect Boost (Collect 5 Special Delivery Emblems) Supply teammates with ammo

Fire Arc boost (Collect 15 Turret Time Emblems) Enemy player killed by turret

Deploy Discount (Collect 25 Turret Time Emblems) Enemy player killed by turret

Regeneration Rate Boost (Collect 10/20 Harmony Emblems) Restore teammate health, this one is weird because it doesn’t seem like an amount of health healed or fully healed your teammate or time limit. Just one emblem rewarded for each deployable thrown and it needs to heal like 75% of your teammates health, without them being hurt again or getting out of the bubble.

Blast Radius Boost (Collect 10 Fatal Step Emblems) Kill player with Proximity Mine

Deploy Discount (Collect 25 Fatal Step Emblems) Kill player with Proximity Mine

EMP Resistance (Collect 3 Guardian Emblems) Deploy 3 T-Energy Shields

Deploy Discount (Collect 10 Guardian Emblems) Deploy 3 T-Energy Shield

Hey, yeah this guide was written by me 10 months ago, I would say its complete and anyone using it would definitely get a good understanding of each achievement. I made sure to keep it clear and concise and even went out of my way to give extra tips and methods for multiplayer posted at the bottom of the guide. Thanks!

Thank you very much for the guide. Hey Admins (if anyone still manages this site), Why hasn't this five year old guide been added to main page Achievement Guide? this is why most people use TA as they are more organised. Please step up your game. Thank you.

As you can see two posts above yours, this guide was noticed by staff and moved into the Greenbook in 2015 because it was unclear at the time if it was completed. Even though the author replied a couple of weeks later by saying "I would say it's complete", the guide was still never submitted by them.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We'll look into it.
