Enlightened Achievement Guide

*Disclaimer - This explanation will be long, because there is alot to explain. I did it this way, so that you can fully understand the reasoning behind this achievement.

I wrote this guide to help others out, please don't say that this method has already been tried, or that I am just guessing. I just wanted to be helpful, and post a guide that I know has worked to help others get the achievement

If you would like to just see the method / guide for this achievement, then look at the second Post

Research / History

Hey All,

Okay after much trying, and failed attempts at this achievement. I have done some research and finally figured out how to do this achievement, and the steps you have to do in order to acquire it. Rather than just post the way to do it, I personally like knowing why you do the things you do to become "Enlightened" or a higher form of man. Also, this achievement, and the way to achieve it has been confirmed by three different accounts.

Okay, at the beginning of the game, you hear Hunter referring to the dead Nosalis as "Tunnel trash", and nothing more. He then mentions the Novus Homo, and refers to them as "Superior Beings." After some research, I believe I have an explanation on how to save the dark ones, and evolve yourself to the level of Novus Homo.

The Novus Homo is defined as: how the lowly-born, but inherently worthy man may properly rise to eminence in the world. Basically, that means how man can evolve to a position of Superiority among his fellow people.

The Russian's referred to this evolution as "New Soviet Man" or "New Soviet Person" The "evolution" or "change" was developed by the ideologist of the Communist party. The candidate for this was describe as an archetype of a person with certain qualities, a person(s) who will emerge as the dominant or superior ones among all of the citizens. Basically it constitutes a stage of radical reconstruction of a man who has become transformed by his own hand. He is the object of "artificial selection, and psycho-physical training. Basically, a man will make it his goal to create a higher form of himself, evolving if you will.

The traits, and characteristics that one must possess to be a New Soviet Man are not hard to understand, but the reasoning behind them is kind of interesting. Below are the characteristics, and explanations of the term:

1) The Soviet man must be selfless, and basically broken down it mean's you care about others well being, before that of yourself. You are fighting the "Dark One's" and the "Nosalis", for the safety and well being of your fellow man, and have no concern for what happens to you in the process.

2)You are to be learned, healthy, and enthusiastic in spreading the socialist revolution. (Basically, you will help anyone who is in need of help, without regard to your well being, and will give money to help others until you are broke.)

This achievement is about evolving into a Novus Homo, and meeting the standards and expectations of the Dark One's. Your evolution is basically not caring about what happens to you, and putting the safety and well being of others before your own. This achievement is about giving hope, and raising the beliefs of the common people. So basically, I will explain the common factors involved in this way or evolution of man, and what they represent.

Flashes

So you have all seen the flashes you get when you find or talk to certain people. They play a big part in this achievement, and the reason why is because they are basically your mind telling you something. The following are the types of flashes, and the reason's you get them:

Common People / Children: You get these flashes, because you are giving people hope, and something/someone to believe in. They see you as a sort of prophet/savior you give them a sense of security, and hope for a peaceful future that they lost a long time ago.

Dead Soldiers: The reason behind these flashes is basically for your mindset, and your motivation. When you find soldiers, and you get a flash's, sometimes but not always. This basically is supposed to represent / stand for your cause for fighting. It gives you the will to go on, and you are atoning / honoring the life of the soldier that died in vain for something he probably should not have been fighting for in the first place. You are also paying your respect to him by finding his body, which if not for you would have never been found. So basically, you finding his body put's his soul at peace / rest.

Selflessness

The next thing is Selflessness, basically this is the act of sacrificing ones own interest for the greater good. Which basically means, you are not supposed to gain anything for yourself, at anytime throughout the game.

You think of the common person before yourself, and risk your well being and safety to save / help them. You will fight for the memory / families while gaining nothing for yourself in the process. With money / bullet's it matter's how you acquire them, and what you use them for. The following are examples, and the reasoning behind them.

Give / Help anyone in need. If someone asks you for money or if you find anyone that asks for it, give to them. If you come across a group of more than one beggar, give money to everyone.

Don't Steal / Don't Accept money for tasks. Basically, with this part you can only take gold bullet's you find in the open. Do not take any you find in someones sleeping quarter's or loot from the dead innocent commoners. Do not take from guitarist's performing around a circle, or anything near them.

Do not take any money for helping or completing missions. Basically, when you help soldiers on missions or from station to station do not accept the bullet's they give you as payment. The only time that this is the exception is when Miller, give's you money to buy filter's and you have no choice but to take them. Also, if anyone i.e. the woman's whose son you save try to give you bullet's don't take them.

Novus Homo / Evolution

In the game you will hear the Dark Ones whisper thing's like "He can help us" or "He brings peace". The reason's you can hear the Novus Homo talk, is because they are guiding you on the path to Enlightenment. They are watching to see if you are evolving, and taking on the trait's and characteristics of the superior man, or Novus Homo. If they see that you are not evolving, then by the time you go to confront them you will not get the option to save them. The reason for this is because you have not shown your worthiness, and you have not followed their standard's.

This achievement is about evolving into a Novus Homo, and meeting the standards and expectations of the Dark One. Your evolution is basically not caring about what happens to you, and putting the safety and well being of others before your own. If you follow the guide below, you will have no problem with this achievement.

Enlightened Achievement Guide

Below are the outlines for each level, that have been confirmed multiple times, to guarantee the Enlightened ending.

Another big thing is that you can get flashes from skeleton's, so just be on the look out for them.

Looting:

You can loot from soldier's do not loot from COMMONERS / NORMAL PEOPLE, basically soldier's are fair game. Do not loot from the houses, or shacks of the beggar's or people who are performing for cash, other than that everyone else is free game.

Exhibition (Infirmary)

+Talk to the guy seated on the box at the top of the stairs just before the entrance to the hospital.

+ Talk to the soldier standing in the line.

+ Talk to the guard inside the hospital.

+ Walk up to the cot with the wounded soldier in the middle of the room on the right.

+ Take the postcard from Hunter.

(Didn't take the gun from the supply locker during the attack)

Exhibition

+ Play the guitar in your quarters.

+ Play the guitar next to the child drawing on the floor.

+ Give a bullet to the man in the Market who asks for a bullet for his sick child.

+ Talk to your step father until the screen flashes.

(You will see two flashes with your step father, one for walking in the room. Then another for continuing the conversation to the end).

Riga

+ Give a bullet to the beggar sitting by the stair's in front of your father's office

+ Turn left and give a bullet to the man in the hallway in front of the tracks.

+ Turn the corner by the tracks, and give a bullet to the beggar

+ Give a bullet to the child who will guide you to Bourbon.

+ When heading down the alley toward's the Toilet's on your left give to the beggar.

+ Right before Bourban, on the second bridge pay all 3 beggar's

+ Do not accept Bourban's payment of bullet's for accompanying him.

Market Station

+ Give a bullet to the begger talking to the young child.

Dead City 1

+ Find and view the dead rangers, several will trigger a flash sequence. *Use this guide to help you find them all here.

+ Play the audio tape in the ranger stash in the building towards the end.

Ghosts

+ You will see several flashes while making your way through this level, just make sure you explore every area you can.

+ As you leave the lines to enter a room, straight ahead in the corner you will find a body.

Cursed

+ When you exit the level, in the room with the memorial / shrine, there are several bullets within the candles where Khan opens the grate. Collect them as you pass through to Armory. Khan mentions that this area is a shrine to hope, confirming the hope theory.

Frontline

+ Turn around and collect the night vision goggles from the storage box at the beginning of the tunnel.

+ Eavesdrop on the group of men sitting on the trolley you arrived on. (Beware though some eavesdropping constitutes as a bad thing.)

+ Find the body lodged in the pipes downstairs from the two injured fascist soldiers.

+ Save the Red Soldiers from the Fascists.

Depot

+ Killed the soldier to stop him from alerting the station.

Defense

+ Take the tape from the commander and broadcast his message to the other stations in "Outpost"

+ Walked through first train car inside the station.

+ Wander upstairs to the sleeping quarters to trigger a memory flash.

+ Find the armory, memory flash will trigger once you enter. (Located up stairs in the gas mask section)

+ Find the body with the cassette player, playing music.

Child

+ Refuse the ammo from the child's mother when you return him safely.

Black Station

+ Eavesdrop on the two guards at the beginning of the level.

+ Eavesdrop on the two guards standing in the hallway.

+ Complete the level without killing any soldiers.

+ Vision, walk towards the Dark One.

Driving to Sparta

+ Talk to Khan until he says you have to go, a golden flash will end the conversation.

Dark Star

+ Vision, walk towards the Dark One.

Caves

+ Did not take ammo or weapon from the fallen comrade.

Looting and collecting ammunition, weapons from here on out will not affect any of the final outcomes of the game.

Hopefully this will help you guy's achieve success with this bothersome achievement.

Im sure doing all this will most likely get you the achievement , but most of this has been covered before and I think your pretty much quessing like everyone else at what exactly triggers the second ending.

Like taking bullets when there put on the table for you , I dont think that affects anything , I took them every time and got the achievement.

I understand what you are saying, but like I said I tested this out on 3 accounts, and it worked everytime. The key to this achievement, is finding the bodies, and flashes, combined with not taking from others, stealing from the common man. It also has to do with giving and becoming a better person. Simply put, I think that combined with all of my research and reasoning behind the methods tried have alot of merit and make sense. Anyway to each their own, I was simply putting up all of the research I had done for this achievement, and I knew I would get a few saying this had already been posted, and it has been tried before etc etc. Simply put, I was just posting the way me and 2 other people got this achievement, it works and that's all that really matter's. I was also posting some information regarding to the game that people probably did not know about :)

Oh yeah, I'm not guessing at this like you said, if you read the post this method has worked 3 times, each time the game has been played the same way so no guessing here :) You can try it if you want and then come back and let me know if it worked :)

The flashes, are for both the explorer, and for this achievement! While playing through on this method, I achieved the explorer achievement, while also working towards the Enlightened achievement. My husband got this achievement, but already had the explorer achievement. He tried to get this achievement without the flashes, and it did not work. He tried to get this with all the flashes, and collecting bullet's, paying the beggars, but took the money for the tasks and did not get it. This achievement, like the explanation states, is a combination of the flashes, giving money to the needy, Do not take / steal from the commoner's, and not taking any bullet's for the tasks you help the soldier's for. All of these combined will net you this achievement. It is a combination, this achievement is based on Novus Homo. Anyway, like I told the other guy, try my method, and it will work. I have done alot of research on this, and everything I have found about it makes sense, and ties into the history of Novus Homo. :)

its not that hard to get the 2nd ending.. this is what i did

have to make a new game... Do the following...

1. Give bullet to the dad for his daughter at EXHIBITION.

2. Give bullet to poor kid and poor people at RIGA.

3.The level OUTPOST broadcast the commanders message.

4.While on the train going to D6 in the vision you have a chance to run towards the demon or a closed gate. run to the demon.

5.On the level DRIVING TO SPARTA go upstairs and talk to khan NOT the commander that will star your mission.

Not all of the listed requirements above have to be done, but there are certain things you will have to do to trigger the ending. If you just run through the game, ignore all flashes and don't concentrate on anything but the obvious moral choices you won't get the enlightened ending. You may have listed 5 obvious choices but you haven't listed anything else you may have done.

THQ have already confirmed that completing the obvious moral choices are half the requirements, that's why this guide is so detailed. And yes it does work before. As lily has mentioned it's been tried multiple times with success. Not every single choice will matter but if you follow this as a basis towards several achievements and the alternative ending you will succeed.

As you can see from this post on their twitter account "The Metro 2033 forums THINK they've cracked the alternate ending... they're right on SOME things - http://ow.ly/1qH75". So you what you listed if half the requirement, or part of it.

Is it a must to not take the weapons from the gun locker before the attack in the infirmary? I haven't played the game yet but I'm assuming this is at the part where you can also get the Quick Draw achievement. So should I get the Quick Draw achievement then reload and not take the weapons to get this achievement in the long run?

i did most of whats posted along with lots of looting and mass killing and got mine. i for some reason on 3 runs just cant get explorer. how sure are you that explorer can be attained from doing the above?

Basically, they way I got the explorer achievement while doing this one is, because I was searching for the bodies to bring up flashes. The easiest way I have found is to go wandering anywhere and everywhere. The more bodies and places you find the better. I would for sure use the guide for the dead soldier's that is stickied on the forum. Also, from what I've noticed, Explorer usually unlocks in the Library or Cave levels. Just go off the beaten path, and look in every pipe every door you can find, basically just be a nosey little ;) , and it should pop up. I wasn't even trying for it and I got it!

From the numerous playthroughs, and such what I would do if I was you would be to do the quickdraw achievement Then load back to the beginning again and play from there :)

I have to say nice guide, but seriously you are just giving people more work to do while playing this game, the achievement isn't hard if you just followed Renegade Snipers guide with the 8 points, I got my achievement, so have countless other people by just doing those 8 simple tasks, so why the need for like 30 different things??

There are not 30 different things to do, it just seems that way because I explained and went into alot of detail. If you look at the explanation's it really only the following taks that you have to do to achieve this guide.

So basically it's less than Renagade's guide of 8, mines only 4 things to do during the campaign. The second part of the post is what you need to do each level to get the achievement. I don't mind whichever guide you use, mines just seems like alot more because I have broken it down into explanation's of why you need to do what you need to do! :)

is there a dead bodie in the library that makes a flash when you see it or pick up ammo?

I believe there are a couple of bodies in there, and I don't remember if I got flashes, but I went up to every body regardless to get any flashes possible for this achievement. I noticed that for some people certain bodies flash for them, but not for others. So I think it's down to which bodies you have found, and what choices you have made along the way that affect's your flashes and such. :)

Nice guide, I'll give it whirl on my 3rd playthrough. I never had to play a game 3-4 times to get all of the achievements. I got over half through the 1st on Normal, but all of this searching in dark corners and secret cracks are are using up all of my filters. I hadn't bought any because I was saving ALL of my gold cartridges for the Scrooge achievement during my 1st go around.

These white flashes occur in many different forms and you just need to follow your guides' orders and do as he does, or if your on your own....search completely every corner of the map. I'll eventually get one playthrough.

This achievement requires certain things to be done in order to get the achievement. It is simply not just a case of shooting the targeting device off of the tower... Please read the entire achievement post and you will see what I am referring to!! You can ask anyone, this is simply not a matter of loading back and such to get the ending. :)
