What's wrong with Capcom these days?

Recommended Posts

To be honest, you might change the topic also in "What's wrong with ME these days?"

Why all the hate...

Don't blame Capcom or DR2: OTR cause I'm really looking forward to this and yeah Capcom seems to change & mix up anything in future games just as trying out new different things. I can't blame them, I'd rather support them.

My real problem with Capcom right now is their DLC policy and the fact they launch several versions of the same game (SF4 for example) instead of launching the right and complete one. And they always say that´s what the fans want, liars.

You have to understand they are one of the most successful japanese companies for several years even out of Japan, and their classic sagas has something to do about that. Is normal they use them as often as new ones. I just wish they do with more, not just some ones.

Where is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure?? I really want a new one on this generation for mayor consoles (360/PS3/PC no more portable exclusives or shit like that that never comes out of Japan). Or Darkstalkers and not just the usual cameos of Morrigan and Felicia in some other compilation fighting games (MvC). Final Fight (Streetwise does NOT count)or Rival Schools??. Damn, they could even return to make a side-scrolling action video game that´s not Bionic Commando, something on the tracks of awesome games like X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse , or The Punisher, they were masters in this kind of games.

And another great idea I give them for free is Okami. Just make a new one or launch the original on Xbox-Live and Playstation Network and I´m sure Capcom will swing in green, which is what seems to matter them this days.

I know initial thread is about new IP, but I think this decisions will bring lots of money and they could take more risk to make new things. And new things they actually care about, not just take another popular occidental games and copy/paste.Dead Rising is pretty new and pretty original, don´t know why you should complain.

Asura´s Wrath, mheeee, not feeling the need of another hack and slash right now. And Dragon's Dogma doesn´t look good enough to live under the shadow of some other mayor RPG coming to Xbox360 as Skyrim or The Witcher 2, so I pressume, high sels in Japan, very poor ones in Europe and even less in America.

I think that´s their problem with new IP, they do stuff they know has already been a hit, but don´t take a real advantage of that. Dead Rising is completely different, I really think is their truly one successful new IP in this generation of consoles.

Sorry, for long thread.

Agreed. It's ridiculous. I too would like to see a sequel to Rival Schools/Project Justice, it was probably the best fighter they've made and has such great potential...

Regarding Okami, that was the work of Clover Studios (they did the brilliant Viewtiful Joe and some other decent shit too) so you're not gonna see that any time soon as Capcom got rid of them for whatever reason. Most of the guys are part of Platinum Games now (Bayonetta, Vanquish) so keep an eye on them.

SFIV Arcade Edition? "Ultimate" MvC3? Now this shit?

Whenwas the last time Capcom did something completely new? Lost Planet?

I have to disagree. I want to see sequels to video game series. I like trying new games as much as anyone, but I also want sequels to games I know I like. That way I have games coming out that I'm pretty sure I will enjoy.

That being said, I'm not into the idea of a non-canon video game. I don't care for what if games/movies/books etc., but as long as they didn't take time away from Dead Rising 3 I'm okay with it, as it does look like fun.

Have you not been reading the thread?

How can you call Super Street Fighter 4 a sequel to Street Fighter 4? Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom a sequel to Marvel vs Capcom? All they did was add a few new fighters, still the same game, and sell it for a slightly reduced price.

Dead Rising 2: OTR uses the same map from DR2, just with a new character and story. Sure, it's not as shady as SF4 & MvC but it's still a shitty way to make money from people.

tl;dr - they're not sequels.

Agreed.

They're going in the completely wrong directions with all of these "improvements" if you will, of their current releases. They need to, as you say, get the right and complete version out without all this nonsense.

Then again, if "that's what the fans want" translates to "we're making more money this way, fools" then you can't blame them as business is business.

You're right. Capcom is released rehashes of all their games. SF vs. Tekken is a stupid idea as well. Hope the company is buried by all of the other companies producing good games.

Halo, COD, & GOW are acceptable because it's a continuation of the story or a new story with the addition of new gameplay mechanics and multiplayer modes, but Capcom releases games that are EXACTLY the same as the previous release with only the addition of new characters or levels which mean NOTHING in fighting games. Lost Planet is terrible as well.

I'm not sure why anyone would get mad at Capcom for putting out another game. DR2 has been out for quite some time now. It's not like they just released it 2 months ago and now re-releasing it. I'm sure that all Dead Rising fans have enjoyed DR2 for a while and are looking forward to playing something "new". For me, it's my most anticipated game of the year so far! Don't hate on anyone, just enjoy the fact that a new game is coming out. If you're still mad, don't buy it.

I kind of see where crow is coming from, yeah it does seem like everytime one turns around there is always a street fighter game out aand though there might be new faces, new moves its still the same ol street fighter. Capcom has such a large catalouge that they kinda don't need to rely so much on a handful of titles. My biggest fear is that Dead Rising will be like Final Fantasy and I really hope that doesn't happen. Only time will tell...

  • 4 weeks later...

Capcom actually did two versions of Lost Planet. The second had cross-platform play.

Regardless, I'm getting a little pissed at Capcom. I love the company, but I'm tired of holding out on games for a price drop, then seeing the enhanced version announced a week later.

At least with Dead Rising, the experience is something for the super hardcore. Dead Rising 2 was great and I don't feel like I wasted my money on it, but if you want Frank, you now have the chance.

I don't feel inclined to play it again, so I'm not. Simple solution.

I'm not trying to like "call you out" or anything, I'm just really curious about this: if you feel that way, why are reading & posting in this particular forum?

I, on the opposite end of the spectrum, got the "fancy" edition of DR2 the day it came out, and feel like just enough time has passed so that its like "A new, even more silly Dead Rising to play? Hell yes!"

On the pro-developers side of the coin, I point you guys to what I thought was a fairly interesting statement from John Carmack:

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/doom-creator-fires-back-at-devs-with-snooty-attitude/

His arguments defending sequels and the like are, I think, somewhat thought-provoking. Am I saying that Capcom essentially re-releasing a bunch of stuff repeatedly is a great thing? No! With Street Fighter 4, its growing downright silly. Unless you're a hardcore player into tournaments and the character rankings and stuff, SS4A in particular seems like a pretty egregious, cheesy release. That said, there guys I know who love that release and paid full price for it. At then end of the day, Capcom's a business. They do these kinds of easy / lazy releases because its a relatively safe and inexpensive way to wring some more money out of previous releases. It seems like they do it because they know people will buy them. So, if you hate this phenomenon and want it to stop, your solution is simple: Do not buy these games, or buy them 2nd-hand so Capcom doesn't get your money.

I am getting the game because I am Dead Rising fan. But I have my share of complaints.

1. When did Frank start making weapons? He should have stuck to photos only.

2. If it is a what if story, then why is there now new places in the casino to explore?

3. (spoiler? havn't played not sure) Why make Chuck a Psycho? (Heard he was, not sure if it is true) If so what happened to his daughter?

But my biggest complaint is:

Spoilers for DR2 if you havn't finished don't read

Why make a what if story? I would have rather pay $20 more for a story that showed how Frank got to vegas and what happened there with him. Then had it end with Frank saving Chuck at the end (True Ending).

Even though i have pre-ordered this,i do remain sceptical as it could very well be a exact copy of DR2 going by what has been shown (to a certain extent anyway) but most game series keep the same core mechanics with some elements changed (story, modes, gimmicks etc).

The concept of a "what if" however is in fact a double-edged sword as it gives the chance to explore new options within each fanchise without affecting the offical timeline however it can cause alot of uneasy questions/concerns and if delivered poorly, it could affect said fanchise's status within the gaming/media industry although the events never transpired.

Anyway i've digressed enough so in short even though this could be nothing more then another BTDT tale,i anticipate this should be a fun decent game none the less.

I totally agree with this.

I was also under the impression that it was going to be from Frank's perspective, going through separate events from Chuck in the same time frame. I was actually looking forward to this until I saw all the reviews and videos showing the SAME cutscenes, SAME psychos, SAME dialogue from DR2.

I just 1000'ed DR2 recently after finally doing the co-op cases, I guess that's why the thought of going through the SAME game again is not appealing right now.

On topic with the Capcom re-hashes, I have 3 friends who were also big fans of Street Fighter from back in the day, so naturally, we all bought SFIV when it released ($60). We played the crap outta it, and even bought costumes, etc ($?). We invested in fightpads/sticks. When SSFIV was announced, we griped about how Capcom COULD'VE made it DLC instead, but didn't. Well, we bought SSFIV too ($40), figuring it was going to be the final edition. Aren't we the fools for thinking that! Anyway, SSFIVArcade gets announced, and we just gave up. In fact, we're so frustrated with this trend, we didn't even buy MvC3. Def not going to bother with the 1st run of SF v Tekken.

Just going to buy Capcom titles used from now on.
