Your Party

Just wanted to know who everyone uses in their party and why really. The tactics used and all.

Theron (Me) - Dalish Warrior - I do all the front line combate with a main hand weapon and my one handed dagger combo's.

Shale - Golum - Also doing all the combat and taking the damage.

Morrigan - Witch / Mage - I have Morrigan standing back and dealing damage without recieving any so if it comes to it I fall back to her still with 100% health. Due to her Mage abilities I can always move forward in a transformed ability to deal damage if the enemies are storming in.

Leliana - Rogue - I use Leliana with the Falon'Din's Reach (Longbow) also standing back with Morrigan dealing damage with the Longbow and the Captive Song Bard ability to stun opponents to make things easy.

She's of course also handy to use as she can open all chests along the way.

Talents wise I am building my character's duel weapon abilities and Berserker abilites.

Shale's specific Golum abilties, currently the top 2 tiers are maxed with the other 2 one off on each.

Morrigans shapeshifter and Entropy abilities have been concentrated on being built up.

Whilst with Leliana as mentioned I have maxed out her Bard and Archery abilties as much as I currently can.

My party sucks. I use Morrigan as a healer with only one offensive spell being used, which is ice. I use Alistar as a shield warrior. And my last member is Leliane as a dual rogue. I needed to give Morrigan some more offensive spells, but then again, she is only a healer to me in my party.

My character is a dual warrior, so 3 melee characters and a healer with limited magic damage. Melee is the way to go in this game it seems. Although, I would change the spells and skills if given a chance to. But I don't wish to start over.

When I was playing a mage I had Alistar as a warrior, Wynne for healing, and Leliana as ranged/to open locked things and xp from traps.

When I played as warrior I had Morrigan and Wynne for mages and again Leliana.

When I played as a rogue, I had Morrigan, Wynne and Alistar..

I think you can get the progression xD

2 mages + warrior + rogue is the best imo

I'm using:

Me - Female Elf Rogue with maxxed out archery and ranger specialization so i can sit and fire from the back also put a few points on dual wield incase i get overwhelmed equipped with the antique warden bow and wades superior dragonscale stuff i can summon a bear also in crowded battles too take out some guys

Morrigan - Offensive mage but with a few tactics too heal the team when they get hit she is on arcane specialization so has some good armour

Alistair - Maxxed out sword and shield and his 2 specializations maxxed hes one of my main frontline he has blood dragon armour and starfang with runes

Dog - High strength and constitution so makes a good frontline warrior

Depends on my character ... my first warrior I used:

Me (dual wielding)

Shale (err ... golem-ness)

Alistair (sword/shield)

Morrigan (mixed)

A simple set up - me, Shale and Alistair go beat the shit out of everything and Morrigan stays back and uses long range attacks (some buffs too).

On my rogue (which I think is a lot better set up then my warrior)

Me (Archer, if it's a big battle I set traps first, otherwise nothing special but fun)

Wynne (LOVE her, just heal heal heal revive buff etc etc she rules)

Zevran (just make him do the basic stuff, used skills when possible/useful)

Sten (another basic powerhouse, I'm using him mostly just cause I want to try all the characters - I'd rather have Shale)

I like the idea of the tactics system but I wish you could do more than just 'if X happens then do Y'. I liked the Tales way of party member tactics, if those 2 fused it would be awesome.

Ive made a rouge and mage, but havnt gone anywhere with them yet, as for my first playthrough, the 3rd party slot varied a LOT, but from the get-go i used me (A human warrior), Lelianna, and Wynne, and the 3rd slot usually belonged to Shale, although the dwarf warrior (cant spell his name) or Alistar got the slot from time to time.

I play as a mage and I do most of the damage dealing myself, I then have:

Wynn - for healing, obviously, specced her to have as much mana as possible for longer fights and have her setup for healing only.

Alistair - for tanking and for his mana draining ability which I find quite useful

Zevran - for additional dps, I mainly play him as straight forward damage, dual-wield and hardly ever use stealth, he also serves as off-tank from time to time seeing as he can take more damage than Wynn.

I also chose these three due to them being on par with most of my decisions in various moral questions, I couldn't stand having all the whining that my choices caused all the time from different characters and these three suit my way of playing this character. Alistair and Wynn are always pro taking the moral high ground and saving people and stuff and Zevran basically goes along with anything I tell him to.

My new party is me, Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliane.

My current character is an Arcane/Blood mage. I have like 7 sustainables running. One being flame weapons for my party. As well as miasma which makes every enemy weaker. Flame weapons add like 12 damage currently to melee hits. The only thing that can hurt me is orange mobs. And even then, I don't think they can get me down to half.

Leliane adds some damage with dual wielding daggers, she has like a 65% backstab/critical rate with her armor and weapons. Her bard song also helps me maintain my shimmering shield, my mana never runs down to 0. I also use her for lockpicking and trap disarming experience. I haven't got her any dual wielding skills except for the two passive ones. To be honest, the only ones I want for her are sweep and whirlwind, but whirlwind takes so many points. I am struggling with getting her the bard song for attack, but I guess mana/stamina regen works better with my party right now.

I have Alistair as another tank. He does decent damage, and shield knockdowns are always nice. I made him a berserker, so using berserk gives him extra HP regeneration and like 5-7 extra damage with every attack. I wish I had made him a champion though.

I use Morrigan as a healer basically. She has a few sustainable skills running which only help her though. The only offensive spell I give her is winter's grasp or something like that, which hits pretty high. She is doing like 45% more ice damage, so I may get her blizzard. I also want to get her crushing prison though, so I am unsure of what I will be able to get.

I'm still pretty early into the game, but I have myself, a human mage, Alistair as my tank, Wynne who is basically set up to only heal, and I switch out Morrigan and the other chick (the Chanty one? I don't use her very much >.>) as needed. Sometimes having the three mages helps, but I keep the rogue about just in case I need something unlocked.

I heard a few people on another forum mention that relying on Mages is a bad strategy.

Personally I love using Wynne (in Drake Scale Armour), Morrigan & my own Mage in Blood Dragon Armour (Mage, Spirit Healer & Arcane Warrior spells maxed out) and focus on the fire, ice, shock and telekinetic spells.

* My own character uses the staff available from the Templar Quartermaster in the Circle Tower.

It's about 130 gold, but it's well worth it in my opinion.

Wynne doesn't have quite as many spell options available as Morrigan, so I just maxed out what she did have and gave her Arcane Warrior specialisation, while I made Morrigan another offensive Mage with the group heal & revival from Spirit Healer just in case the other two are knocked out.

I don't really like the Shapeshifter specialisation at all.

I tend to rotate between Allistair & Shale, Allistair seems to be good at groups, while Shale is great for powerful enemies.

I don't really use Rogues at all, and don't use Archers as I can never find a good bow.

Some of my party experience:

I always have a Tank-specced warrior and a healer in my party, old habit from playing WoW I guess. A rogue for chests and traps (extra xp) is also nice, last spot goes to a damage dealer, be it a mage, offensive warrior, dog or golem.

The tank should have Shield Wall and Shield Expertise (knockdown immunity! yay!) as well as Taunt and Threaten. Later he becomes a Champion for both the buff (Rally) and the War Cry, which is awesome when it knocks down all near you (Superiority).

The healer should have all basic healing spells, using Regeneration if the Tank is below 90% and Heal if he is below 75 or 50%.

So far for basic tactics.

In my first party I was a noble dwarven warrior and tanking myself, Wynne was healing me pretty well and Leliana and Morrigan did the damage.

On my second playthrough I'm a city elf rogue going dual daggers with cunning and Momentum always up. Since I wanted evil characters, I used the tome duplication glitch to add some talents to Sten and Morrigan so that they could tank and heal instead of dps/dps. The second dps spot goes Oghren. He's so funny.

On my third playthrough I'm goin to be a mage, healer myself so that I don't have to bring boring Wynne again. I'm also focussing on crowd control spells like Sleep, Paralyze and the likes and buffs for melee attackers.

My tank will be Alistair, since I ignored or mocked him in the runs before and he needs some love, too. For the rogue I think I'll take Leliana again because she's so cute, the last spot is still vacant.

Guess I'll take one I never used much before so that I can experience some additional companion chat I didn't have before, maybe Zhevran because he's also cute (and two Rangers in the group would rock) or Shale (though I dislike the fact that you don't have many tactics options due to the modes you have to activate) or I'll try to use my mabari a whole playthrough because I have grown to like him, too.

First run I used:

myself as a Dual Wielding Rogue/Assassin

Leilana as the Archer Rogue Bard

Wynne as the healer

The last spot would rotate between Shale, Alister, Dwarf guy, and Morrigan.

This time I'm going with

me as a Arcane Warrior/possible Blood Mage

Leilana as my rogue/chest opener

Alister as my Warrior

and haven't exactly decided who the forth will be but Sten is filling in for now.

I was going to have Wynne be the counterbalance to my magic spells but I killed her. Stupid bitch attacked me just for agreeing with Morrigan.

I would guess I have around 10 hours tops in my playthrough left but I have a few idea's of who I will use next playthrough etc.

Thinking of being a female rogue assassin etc but using a crossbow. This way I can use someone different to Leiliana as I can deal with the chest's etc and as I will be female I can clear up romance achievements.

Think I will take Alistair as I haven't used him at all in my current playthrough and use him as a tank.

Morrigan again as I think she is real useful in battles and has the healing as well which is of course useful, plus I'm not a fan of Wynne as she just comes across to be real boring.

Then I think I will go for Oghren or Zevran although I'm not sure how early exactly you can get Zevran in your party. Not a fan of Sten at all to be honest and I will need to leave the Dalish story until last anyway to side with the Warewolves in that story.

You can get Zevran right after visiting Redcliffe Village the first time. So you'll have to defend or abandon the village, then travel somewhere else and you should get his encounter.

It's faster to get him than to get Oghren I think, because for him you'll have to do the first two main quests in Orzhammar and the carta one takes quite long.

Myself - Warrior, I dish out a whole lot of damage and can act as a tank.

Zevran - Rogue, I get him to dual wield and just basically deal a lot of damage.

Morrigan - Mage, at the back, casting spellzzzz.

Leliana - Rogue, I make use of her by giving her a bow.

Seems to work fine. Managed to beat SPOILERZZZZ

SPOILERS

Flemeth at like level 10 with this party no problems.
