Overview:

  • Estimated Achievement Difficulty: 9.5/10 (Personal Guess)
  • Offline Achievements: 12
  • Online Achievements: 0
  • Missable Achievements: None (Stage Select)
  • Do cheats block achievements?: N.A
  • Approximate amount of time to 100%: 50+ hours (Depends greatly on skill)

Roadmap:

Sine Mora is a strange beast in the Shoot-Em-Up genre. While the game isn't particularly difficult, the achievements require some damn fine skills and a lot of repetition. As such, I can't even begin to guess how many playthroughs you will have to undertake before you can obtain every achievement.

Still, you will probably want to beat Story Mode twice. Unless you're a god at these types of games, jumping into challenging will require skill. You are required to finish the game on Challenging to unlock the "Alternative Narration" for another achievement, so that will add another playthrough.

On Normal, the game is about 90 minutes long. On Challenging, that time can triple. You are given 10 continues to finish the game with, though stage select will not bar you from pressing forward. Once all your continues are gone, just stage select the level you were on and press forward.

You can keep track of your Promotion/Achievement status with the in-game achievement menu. You just select whichever promotion you're gunning for and then complete the tasks associated with it. That is certainly far easier said than done.

Step 1:

Complete Story Mode on Normal

Start up the Story Mode and select Normal difficulty. The game will begin with a Prologue chapter. As soon as you can, die to unlock the Stercus Accidit achievement. After that death, you'll want to restart the Story mode as that death will cost you a continue.

After finishing the story once, you will most likely have these achievements:

  • Stercus Accidit
  • Nascentes Morimur

Step 2:

Repeat the Prologue Chapter aiming to obtain Sine Mora

Now just reload the Prologue chapter by selecting New Game -> Story Mode -> Stage Select. You can do this on any difficulty as the Prologue doesn't get harder. Sine Mora requires that you kill every enemy in the prologue and take the advanced path without taking a hit.

That sounds daunting, but it really isn't too hard. Just make sure to kill everyone as fast as you can before the path selection and then liberally use your Speed Up Capsule technique to gun down each turret. You cannot hold it down forever as that will screw you during the vertical navigation sections.

Step 3:

Promotion Time

Now it's time to tackle the different promotions. You'll probably give yourself some progress by beating the Story mode a second time on Challenging. Like I mentioned earlier, this has to be done to unlock the "Alternative Narration" mode which is required for Repetitio Est Mater Memoriae.

After that, finish the Story Mode again using the Alternate Narration. It simply shows the game from a few different viewpoints and even includes the "True Ending." After that, you'll just have to check the requirements for whatever challenges await you and go to it.

The Promotions require that you obtain previous achievements before unlocking. You can do any of the tasks out of order, but you won't get the higher promotion achievement until obtaining the one below it.

See the individual achievements below for details on how to obtain each individual promotion.

Misc. Achievements

Fail the Prologue

You will likely obtain this while going for the Sine Mora achievement. Regardless, if you want it as soon as possible, just die during the Prologue chapter and you'll have this. It probably would have happened, anyway.

Destroy everything in the Prologue and remain unharmed

This wonderful little achievement is pretty damn hard. It's not impossible, but considering a tutorial level shouldn't be killing you multiple times, this one is a doozy. You need to kill every enemy in the turtorial, select the Advanced Pilot path and then destroy every turret without taking damage.

You cannot run into the walls, either. That will count as damage. You can, however, get to the Advanced Path without taking damage and then die and continue. Since you are given the Speed Up Capsule and it has a fairly large amount of meter, if you liberally apply it you should be able to get this.

Promotions (Part 1)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1602/+SDddA==.jpg Nascentes Morimur 5http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Promoted to Airman

These are the requirements to obtain "Airman" rank.

Complete a stage (Any Game Mode)

You will easily obtain this while playing through Story Mode. No need to fret.

Destroy 200 enemy units (Any Game Mode)

There are certainly more than 200 enemies during Story Mode, so, again, no need to fret.

Empty 3 full capsules (Any Game Mode)

This refers to the Blue Meter under your gun power up meter. What you need to do is completely empty three of these using the Speed Up Capsule during the course of the Story Mode. You can also empty this in whichever over mode you'd like (Score Attack, Boss Training, etc.).

Note: The Capsule must be entirely full for this to count. You do not have to drain it in one burst, though.

Deploy 5 sub-weapons (Any Game Mode)

Sub-weapons are deployed by pressing B on the controller. Since they come in handy in tight situations, I don't think you'll have a problem using 5 of them.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1602/+wHUwQ==.jpg Lex Talionis 10http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Promoted to Sergeant

These are the requirements to obtain "Sergeant" rank:

Promoted to Airman

You must first obtain "Airman" rank.

Crash into 15 enemies (Any Game Mode)

You need to simply ram enemies for this. The game counts each impact as an additional crash, so you can run into one enemy 15 times if you'd like (though that is highly unlikely).

Complete a stage without using a continue (Any Game Mode)

You cannot die during the duration of an entire stage. You will probably unlock on the first stage in Story Mode while playing on Normal. It really isn't hard, but if you don't get it, just keep practicing.

Finish any stage with an "A" (or better) rating (Any Game Mode)

Mulitple factors are counted in the games ranking system. These are:

  • Score (Successful enemy/boss kills and picking up orbs)
  • Time Remaining (Killing enemies or picking up timb orbs will increase this. The Max is 99.99)
  • The use of sub-weapons and capsules (Any use of sub-weapons will decrease your overall rank. You can still obtain S while using them, though.)
  • "Penalties" (Any kind of damage you take during a level)
  • Continues (Dying and selecting continue will negatively effect your score)

The easiest level to get a high rank one would be the first. Even with using sub-weapons and getting hit a few times, I was able to obtain an S Rank. It can't be done, just be patient and aware.

Finish any stage with a hit ratio over 75% (Any Game Mode)

This game has huge hit-boxes, so your chances of getting less than 90% are fairly slim. Still, if you are having trouble, just try to position yourself in front of enemies before holding down the A button.

Destroy 100 stationary units (Any Game Mode)

Stationary units count as tanks, turrets and any other enemies that are not moving.

Promoted to Master Sergeant

These are the requirements to obtain "Master Sergeant" rank:

Promoted to Sergeant

You must first obtain "Sergeant" rank.

Clean game time is over 2 hours (Any Game Mode)

What this refers to is the amount of time you have played the game. This doesn't mean you can leave the application running and rack up hours on Steam, though. Any time you are actually controlling the game, the counter for "Clean Game Time" will go up. You should have this by the time you finish Story Mode once and start it again.

Find the weak spot of the Matouschka boss (Any Game Mode)

This would be pretty hard to find your first time facing the boss. Thankfully you can obtain this in Boss Training mode. This boss' weak point is all the way to the right of the screen, between the cow catcher and a turret. Let this picture guide you better.

http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/559841097362327056/9F71DE518A931F48DDECEEDF2A57910D89642F7E/

Using Boss Training mode, you will be able to make your guns max level and give yourself a full capsule. This should help in obtaining this task.

Finish any stage with a hit ratio over 85% (Any Game Mode)

You will more than likely get this on the first stage of Story Mode. If you are having trouble, though, just try to position yourself in front of enemies before holding down the A button.

Destroy 50 ships (Any Game Mode)

Ships refers to enemies that are in the water. To grind this requirement, do Stage Select on Stage 2 in Story mode. Destroy the ships leading up to the first boss, restart the level and repeat the process. In all honesty, though, you will probably obtain this during Story Mode.

Destroy a boss with 90+ Seconds on the timer (Any Game Mode)

You just need to finish off a boss with more than 90 seconds on the timer. The easiest boss to acquire this on would be the "Matoushcka" boss. It has a lot of turrets which quickly add up time.

You can even obtain this in Boss Training Mode. Simply give yourself full stats, select Matoushcka and have at it (make sure to not get hit, though).

Promotions (Part 2)

Promoted to Lieutenant

These are the requirements to obtain "Lieutenant" rank:

Promoted to Master Sergeant

You must first obtain "Master Sergeant" rank.

Destroy Siriad on normal difficulty (Story)

Siriad is the final stage of Story Mode. Unpon completing the mode, this task will be finished.

Continue 100 times (Any Game Mode)

Using a continue requires you run out of time and die (or encounter one of the many one hit deaths). This can be grindined out in Story Mode. Dying and using a continue in any other mode will not count, despite what the game says.

A good way to grind this is selecting Stage 6 in Stage Select and setting the difficulty to challenging. Now just run into enemies and their bullets at the beginning until you die. Rinse and repeat until satisfied.

Survive for 200 seconds without getting hit (Any Game Mode)

There really is no solid way of obtaining this. Practice is obviously key. The first level is probably your best bet as the enemies are fairly docile. This can be accomplished on Story Mode on Normal, so that will ease the pain a bit.

Note: Cutscene time does not count towards the 200 seconds.

Finish any stage with an "S" (or better) rating (Any Game Mode)

Refer to the score break I listed for the Lex Talionis achievement.

Cut down every leg of Kolobok (Arcade or Score Attack)

This cannot be done in Boss Training Mode. Select Stage 1 in either Arcade or Score Attack (your choice of Difficulty is either Hard or Insane. Good luck). When you get to the second form of the boss, make sure you destroy every part of it's leg. I would advise saving your sub-weapons specifically for this section.

Destroy 10 enemies with their own bullets (Arcade or Score Attack)

This requires that you use the Reflection Capsule (one of three choices you can make in Arcade and Score Attack modes). Focus on reflecting bullets back at larger enemies or one that shoot a lot. Small planes probably won't give you enough ammo to kill them with.

Finish any stage on the highest rank (Arcade or Score Attack)

You must finish an Arcade or Score Attack stage with an "A" rank. Refer to the score break I listed for the Lex Talionis achievement.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1602/-0PHqw==.jpg Repetitio Est Mater Memoriae 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Promoted to First Lieutenant

These are the requirements to obtain "First Lieutenant" rank:

Promoted to Lieutenant

You must first obtain "Lieutenant" rank.

Complete the story with alternative narration (Story)

To first unlock "Alternative Narration," you need to beat Story Mode on Challenging. After doing that, beat the game again with the narration turned on to complete this requirement.

Absorb 200 score tokens (Any Game Mode)

Score tokens are dropped from every fifth enemy you kill. Collect 200 of these to complete the requirement (the total is cumulative).

Empty 100 full capsules (Any Game Mode)

Just like how Nascentes Morimur requires 3 capsules be emptied, you just need to empty a few more and this requirement will be yours.

Finish a stage unharmed (Any Game Mode)

You need to successfully finish any stage without taking damage (the Prologue will not count). I suggest Stage 1, though any level you are comfortable with will work.

Fully upgrade your primary weapon (Any Game Mode)

You can upgrade your weapon 9 times passed it's base level. The upgrades for it are red orbs that enemies drop at random. If you take damage, you will lose ALL of your orbs. You can pick them back up before they disappear, though. Simply get your gun to it's max rank and you'll have this (selecting Level 10 in Boss Training does not count).

Clean game time is over 5 hours (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of "Clean Game Time" in the Tempus Neminem Manet achievement. This should come naturally over the course of gameplay, though.

Complete the same stage with all airplane types (Any Game Mode)

There are three airplane types available in the game. You can select any one you want for Score Attack and Arcade mode. Just beat the first level with one, restart it and select a different ship until done.

Spend 100 seconds on the highest rank (Arcade or Score Attack)

Since this requirement is cumulative, there should be no problem in obtaining it. It may take you quite some time, but it will eventually happen.

Promoted to Captain

These are the requirements to obtain "Captain" rank:

Promoted to First Lieutenant

You must first obtain "First Lieutenant" rank.

Complete the story using only your primary weapon (Story)

You must beat the game using only your Primary weapon. No sub-weapon or time capsule usage. This can be done on Normal, so it's not too bad.

Destroy 2,000 flying enemy units (Any Game Mode)

Flying enemies are enemies that are flying through the sky. You cannot kill airborn enemies underwater for this to count. If you're working on getting to Captain rank, though, you probably already have this. If not, just grind out Stage 6 in Stage Select until this is done.

Annihilate 42 boss enemies (Any Game Mode)

This will have to be done through stage select and Boss Training Mode as there are not 42 bosses in the game. The easiest boss is probably Matouschka.

Finish any stage with a 100% hit ratio (Any Game Mode)

This isn't impossible. The game actually rounds up your accuracy, so if you focus your shots, you should be able to obtain this.

Deploy 200 subweapons (Any Game Mode)

This is a cumulative total. You might even get it during your first playthrough of story mode. You can do this in Boss Training, though, so if you don't already have the requirement unlocked, just spam your sub-weapons and set them to max.

Play with 25 different chronomes (Any Game Mode)

Chronomes are choices you can pick for your pilot before starting a level in Score Attack or Arcade mode. Since there are well over 50 different choices and the game conveniently tells you which ones you've previously selected, just continue until you've tried 25 of them. You don't even need to finish the level, either.

Clean game time is over 10 hours (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of "Clean Game Time" in the Tempus Neminem Manet achievement. This should come naturally over the course of gameplay, though.

Hold the highest rank for 90 seconds (Arcade or Score Attack)

This is not a cumulative total. This must be done in a single level without taking damage or using sub-weapons. Obtaining A Rank for the level will not guarantee this.

Promotions (Part 3)

Promoted to Major

These are the requirements to obtain "Major" rank.

Promoted to Captain

You must first obtain "Captain" rank.

Story 1CC (Complete Story without using a continue) (Story)

Getting this requirement on Story Mode is easy as pie. You simply just go to Stage Select, pick the last level and beat the boss without getting killed. That will unlock this for some reason.

Use the Roll Back capsule for 30 minutes (Any Game Mode)

The Roll Back capsule is sort of like how Prince of Persia: Sands of Time works. You get to redo mistakes by using your capsule ability, even if you die. The time is cumulative, so just enter Boss Training and set your capsule to max. Deplete your meter, restart the level and repeat until done.

Clean game time is over 15 hours (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of "Clean Game Time" in the Tempus Neminem Manet achievement. This should come naturally over the course of gameplay, though.

Use the Speed Up capsule for 20 minutes (Any Game Mode)

The Speed Up capsule is the only one you are allowed to use in Story Mode, so you'll probably have this without trying. If you can't get it, though, then just enter Boss Training mode with this selected and set to max. Deplete your meter, restart the level and repeat until done.

Collect every score token through 3 stages (Any Game Mode)

This will require a lot of skill. Dying will reset this counter and the prologue will not count towards progress on this requirement. I suppose tackling the first 3 levels would be the best bet, but level 7 is fairly short.

Complete a stage utilizing the Extend power-up (Any Game Mode)

The Extended Powerup is a purple orb that enemies will randomly drop. After picking it up, once the timer runs to 00.00, you will be granted an additional ten seconds. What you should aim to do with this requirement is pick up a purple orb and get a boss down to 1 or 2 hits. After your timer runs-out and is refilled, kill him and this requirement will be done.

Immediately recollect 9 primary weapon power-ups (Any Game Mode)

This is cumulative for some reason. The easiest way to get this is to enter Boss Training mode, set your weapon power to max and allow the boss to hit you. When that happens, collect as many orbs as you can and then repeat it a few times until you have 9.

Destroy Siriad (Arcade)

Siriad is the final stage of the game. Arcade mode can only be bested on Hard or Insane, so this will be difficult. Using the reflect capsule will probably be a life saver in Arcade mode, but you can select any combination of pilot and ship you feel is best.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1602/-kXaEA==.jpg Suaviter In Modo 20http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Promoted to Colonel

These are the requirements of obtaining "Colonel" rank.

Promoted to Major

You must first obtain "Major" rank.

Pick up 1,000 power ups (Any Game Mode)

This is cumulative over all game mods and playthroughs. This should come naturally.

Clean game time is over 20 hours (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of "Clean Game Time" in the Tempus Neminem Manet achievement. You may struggled to get this amount of time, but another promotion requires more, so this won't be a problem in the end.

Reflect 10,000 bullets (Any Game Mode)

This requires the Reflection Capsule. Just select that in Arcade or Score Attack and get reflecting.

Play with 40 different chronomes (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of Chronomes in the Inter Caecos Regnat Strabo achievement. You just simply select 40 different ones and you're good.

Finish every stage with an "A" (or better) rating (Score Attack)

The in-game achievement menu will give you a percentage of the levels you have completed at A rank, but will not tell you which ones. There are not a lot of levels, but you can always keep track on paper until you get this. You can also use Steam screenshots as reminders.

Complete Arcade with 2 different pilots (Arcade)

When starting Arcade mode, you are given a choice of which pilot you want to play as. The Dies Irae achievement requires you beat Arcade with every pilot, so getting 2 won't even be an issue.

Finish any stage on Insane difficulty (Arcade or Score Attack)

This is simple in wording only. Stage 1 is probably the easiest level in the game and you should have some of the enemies patterns memorized by now. You never have to beat the full game on Insane, so count your blessings.

Promotions (Part 4)

Promoted to Major General

These are the requirements of obtaining "Major General" rank.

Promoted to Colonel

You must first obtain "Colonel" rank.

Collect 50 score tokens with 100,000 value (Any Game Mode)

The game gives you a multiplier for every score token you collecting. Collecting them consecutively increases their value (1000, 2000, 4000, etc) until you hit 100,000. This counter is cumulative. If you focus on not getting hit, you should easily have this.

Considering a previous rank required you to beat 3 levels collecting every token, odds are that you already have this.

Destroy a boss with its own bullets (Any Game Mode)

This requires the Reflection Capsule. Just go into Boss Training mode and s elect whichever boss you see fit. This can be done on any difficulty. Don't start using your Reflection Capsule until the boss is almost dead.

Destroy 1,500 enemies with your subweapons (Any Game Mode)

This counter is cumulative and counts on any enemy in the game. You can grind this out in Boss Training if you so desire, but I find it easier to just kill the cannon fodder in Story Mode.

Play with every single chronome (Any Game Mode)

Refer to my description of Chronomes in the Inter Caecos Regnat Strabo achievement. You just simply select whichever ones are remaining and you're good.

Complete Arcade with 4 different pilots (Arcade)

The Dies Irae achievements requires you to beat Arcae with all 8 pilots, so you shouldn't have an issue with this.

Reach the canyon without using a continue (Arcade)

Since one rank requires you beat the game using only 1 credit, this will come naturally during that playthrough. If you want to obtain only this, though, then the game is referring to Stage 3 - Cardinal Canyon. This has to be done in Arcade mode, though, so no Level Select.

Destroy every boss using only your primary weapon (Arcade)

This does not need to be finished in a single Arcade mode run. You just simply need to kill each boss with your primary weapon, however many playthroughs that takes. Any difficulty is fine.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1602/-BvPQg==.jpg Dies Irae 50http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png

Promoted to General of the Air Force

These are the requirements for obtaining "General of the Air Force" rank.

Promoted to Major General

You must first obtain "Major General" rank.

Clean game time is over 24 hours (Any Game Mode)

A whole days worth of playing this game. Sounds like absolute hell, right? Well, just keep trucking along. You honestly could be able to finish everything in this game in under 24 hours, but I doubt anyone will.

Encounter the killer piano (Any Game Mode)

The Killer Piano is a random orb that enemies will drop during the game. It can appear on the first enemy in the game to the last boss. It appears in any mode and at any time. The orb is slightly blue and contains a symbol that looks like the Roman numeral for 3. Simply pick this up when you see it.

The orb causes instant death and there is no way to avoid that. You just have to suck it up, die and be thankful this requirement is done.

Finish a stage with half or less second remaining (Any Game Mode)

A tough requirement. Simply go into Boss Practice mode, select the last boss (Ophan) and pick normal difficulty. Any ship is fine, but make sure you take the Speed Up Capsule.

When the boss is down to a sliver of health, simply back off from attacking him. His final burst of attacks takes 13 seconds to finish, so you should plan to hit your final bullet somewhere around 13:40-13:20. Using your Speed Up Capsule will ensure you get a good line on him.

If you take any damage during the boss' final burst, you'll simply have to restart. You won't have enough time to finish this.

Complete arcade mode with all pilots (Arcade)

Just beat Arcade mode with every available pilot. While it's not difficult in theory, getting through Arcade mode 8 times will be challenging.

Arcade 1CC (Complete arcade without using a continue) (Arcade)

Just like the good old days of trying to best Contra with 1 credit, this requirement tasks you with going through Arcade mode without dying. It certainly will be hard. I'd recommend the Reflection Capsule and putting the game on Hard so as not to kill yourself.

Complete arcade using only your primary weapon (Arcade)

This tasks you with beating the entire Arcade mode without using any sub-weapons or capsules. I believe it is cumulative, but I honestly couldn't tell you. Beating Arcade without using anything is hard enough. You can lump this together with your 1CC run if you'd like, but you can die on any stage and still get this.

Finish a stage on insane without picking up anything (Arcade or Score Attack)

Probably the hardest requirement in the game, aside from 1CC Arcade. The last boss might honestly be the easiest level to do this on, but since he'll be a pain in the ass, I'd recommend Stage 1. Just try to avoid every power-up and you'll be golden.

  • 2 weeks later...

I see, a guide has been written. At least there is one. Personally I think the guide needs more information. You simply repeat how to do things and do not really offer help for the harder requirements.

At least I have inspiration to actually finish my guide now. I guess we can have a battle then =).

Good work though.
