Introduction:

Defenders of Ardania is a tower defense game that also allows you to summon your own ground and air units to attack your enemy while your defender from their attacks with your towers. Overall it's a relatively simple game, even for those new to the tower defense genre, although it does require a bit of luck for some of the resource limited levels and an understanding of some general tower defense tactics to make a lot with a few towers (most of them will come from playing the campaign, which has a steady learning curve). You'll need to play the game twice, as well as do some multiplayer and most likely struggle with the Survivor achievement, which can be very broken for most people (see the achievement for details).

Playthrough 1:

In your first playthrough you'll have a number of general achievements to do while you have the resources to spare. The very first mission will net you the Rookie achievement, which won't pop retroactively if you play out of the trial, so you'll need to simply redo that mission from mission select at some point. The next achievement you can get with ease is Librarian, which you can get by tapping :ltbut: while hovering over a ground unit to see it's info tab, and you can repeat this process all 10 times on the same unit. You can also get Vacuum Cleaner Agent without much trouble; all you need to do is sell 10 towers in a single mission, which at the very least will come while you're doing the survivor achievement. Around halfway through the game you'll have a level-specific achievement called Demolition Man, which will pop once you defeat the Minotaur mission. In the second half of the game you'll start unlocking the remaining towers for Straight Flush, which requires you to build all towers in one mission and Master Economist, which requires you to use all the economy upgrades in one mission. You can also get the Cunning achievement on a level in the second half if you beat it without using towers (any level will work, but that's the easiest). The last achievement, Veteran, will unlock when you beat the game.

Playthrough 2 - Limited Resource Mode:

Now that you've beat the game once, you can start your second playthrough, which you'll need to do by going through the Skirmish tab of the menu. Via skirmish you need to then go back through every mission and beat them on limited resource mode for Grandmaster. As the title states, in limited resource mode you'll start out with more resources than usual, but you will not get any resources during the game, meaning you need to finish the entire mission with a limited number of resources. You will also want to take this time to finish any campaign achievements you missed.

Survival and Multiplayer:

Now that all of your campaign achievements are hopefully out of the way you can get your multiplayer achievement - Lucky! - done by winning 5 multiplayer matches in a row. Perhaps the most frustrating part of the game will be Survivor, which is very easy but also very unlikely to actually unlock. If you're unlucky enough to not get this to unlock (most people are), then you'll need to follow the tips under the achievement to try again. Once everything else is done, Don't Panic should unlock. As with Survivor, Don't Panic may also glitch, and has the same fix, which is listed under the Survivor achievement.

Achievement Guide:

Build all tower types of one race in one mission.

This can be unlocked during the campaign, near the very end when you unlock the 8th and final tower - The Crystal Gun (on the "Temple of Wisdom" level). You do not need all 8 of the towers up at once, and the wall does count, so you might as well build that first since it's the cheapest, then sell it and build something else.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-jBCIg==.jpg Survivor 20:gsicon:

Survive 60 waves on the Survival game mode.

Important note: This achievement is highly glitched, read everything below thoroughly prior to attempting it

If the achievement does not unlock, finish ALL other achievements before doing the following fix:

1 Move your gamer profile to a usb drive

2 Start the game up and remove the usb drive when the Paradox screen comes up as you start the game

3 Ignore any prompts to input the usb drive until you get to the main menu

4 Once you see that it shows 0 achievements, put in your usb drive and your achievements will load

5 Repeat the Survivor achievement

NOTE: This will erase all of your campaign progress, hence why you should save this for last. Sadly, that also means you'll need to clear back through whatever mission you choose to do for the achievement

First off, this achievement is actually really easy, especially if you follow the basic guidelines outlined by the videos below. Basically, pick the third to last level and block off the left of the two paths that lead to your base while you build a line of Crystal Gun towers from right to left in the middle of the map on the same line as the square that increases the towers range. I recommend changing the video's strategy just a tad, by building walls on the resources off the bat to save some resources and jump right into building the line of Crystal Guns. I also recommend building the Repo (slow) tower on the range enhancing square to help deal with the ghosts that can go through your towers.

After upgrading all of your Crystal Guns and Repo Tower, remove the other towers you have near the resource squares to add two more Crystal Guns to the left end of your tower and a wall behind your Repo Tower to force the enemies to move between the Crystal Gun wall and the bottom of the screen. As you progress through the level you'll eventually need to start removing the lone wall in the back and placing it at the right end of the Crystal Gun line to force enemies to change their route. This will cause the opponents to bounce back and forth between route as you keep switching where the wall is, giving your towers more time to kill the enemies.

Sell 10 towers in a single mission.

This can be pretty easily achieved on any mission, although I would recommend waiting until the end, once you feel comfortable with your defenses. It is also best done on a tower that is out of the way so you can easily sell/rebuild it and repeat the process all ten times without opening a path to your base or anything like that.

To sell a tower, tap :abut: while it's highlighted to open the tower menu. Use :ls: to scroll to the gold icon to sell the tower. Once the tower has been deconstructed, you can build another tower in the same square and repeat the process.

Destroy the Minotaur Base.

Story related, unmissable.

In the Ghosts of the Past mission (the one on the island in the middle of the map) you will need to go against an army of Minotaur heroes. The difficult part of this achievement is starting out, as all of the Minotaurs have a lot of health, and do a lot of damage, so you will want to use towers to quickly fill in the gaps in the walls to make the longest path possible to your base. Once that is done, start spamming Dwarf Hammerers as they will take the time to stop and smack a Minotaur before running by it, and they do pretty good damage. You will also want to start spamming your other favorite unit(s) (I chose the basic warriors) so you can have a couple of heroes on the battlefield once you level up the correct unit to level 3, which we can now do by having them simply walk across the map. Once the Minotaur base is destroyed (note: NOT the building in the middle of the map) you will win the match, and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/+SpZoQ==.jpg Cunning 20:gsicon:

Win a level without towers.

You can get this on the "A Long Farewell" level if you simply rush the enemy with Rogues for the entire fight (and the hero once you have her). You will probably want to invest in lowering the cost of units by 20% at the start of the level, and increasing your resource gain by 20%. Other than that, keep spawning Rogues and make sure you have them run down the path of least resistance using the rally :ybut: to choose the path they go down. Note that you also have a new spell that shields all of your units for a few seconds, which you should use once the enemy starts to stack a lot of towers.

If you start rushing right off the bat, and you get lucky with the enemy's tower placements you will be able to be the level in under 3 minutes.

Use the unit info 10 times.

This can be achieved by using :ltbut: while hovering over an enemy unit (not a tower) to open up their stat sheet. Repeat the process until the achievement unlocks (you can do it on one unit).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-k9exQ==.jpg Rookie 10:gsicon:

Finish the first mission.

Complete the very first tutorial mission. Note that this is not retroactive if you unlocked the game from the trial, but you can simply redo the level via the level select (and you do not need to start a new game either).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-6+mVg==.jpg Veteran 20:gsicon:

Finish the Campaign.

Finish all of the levels in the campaign - get from the left side of the map to the right. Overall the game isn't too difficult, the a rather steady curve in difficulty. The primary notes are to be aware for super bosses that spawn after a base is killed in the last two levels. Three super skeletons (1 per base) in the second to last mission, and the final boss in the last mission (when the base is around 95% damaged). They all kill the base in one hit, so kite them around as much as possible by get them to move down one path, then blocking it off and opening up a new path so they stop and turn around. You'll also need to utilize the laser cannons as they do massive damage. For the last boss, he has a magic shield, and honestly I have no idea how he died but he destroyed me after 5min of running around the first time and randomly died the second after about 30 seconds.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-WhKyw==.jpg Master Economist 20:gsicon:

Use all Economy Upgrades in one mission.

There are a total of 8 resource upgrades (:dleft:) in the game that will unlock as you progress through the campaign. They increase mana production, decrease costs for everything, and do a number of other things with the last upgrade being the training ground upgrade, which will unlock on the level "Bridge of Despair".

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-IiyWA==.jpg Lucky! 20:gsicon:

Win 5 multiplayer match in a row.

Start up or join 5 multiplayer matches and win them. As the description states, you need to play and win all 5 games with no losses in between them, so you either need to be good, lucky or boosting with a friend (see the boosting thread for help).

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/-0lDfg==.jpg Grandmaster 20:gsicon:

Complete all levels in Limited Resource mode.

After beating the game, you will get the option to go back through the missions and defeat them on normal, survival, or limited resource mode when you select the level from the map. Go through all of the levels a 2nd time, selecting limited resource for each one, to get the achievement.

In limited resource mode you will start with extra resources, but you will not gain resources during the level so you must do it all with just the starting resources.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1800/s1.jpg Don't Panic! 20:gsicon:

Unlock all achievements.

Obviously this will be your last achievement, if you actually put the effort into getting the other eleven achievements, of course.

  • 10 months later...

Seems to me that 2/10 on difficulty is grossly underestimating it, even for experienced tower defense/strategy game players. Not to mention that it really is ?/10 since several of the achievements are known to be glitch (the 60 waves of survival especially).

Handy info though. Really having trouble with 3 Kings map in limited resource mode.
