Everyone who's given achievement help/videos

http://i56.tinypic.com/4qr6h5.jpg

Overview:

Estimated achievement difficulty: 4/10

Offline: 48 [875:gsicon:]

Online: 2 [125:gsicon:]

Approximate time: 10-12 Hours [Depending on Skill]

Minimum number of play-throughs needed: 1 [Chapter/Course Select]

Missable achievements: 0

Does difficulty affect Achievements? No

Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No

Introduction:

Here we are again in the palm of GLaDOS and her wacky challenges. If you've played the Portal series before the game will be familiar with you and if you haven't well have fun and put some money aside for those extra controllers!

The game plays exactly the same as the first but with a few new gadgets and powers added in. Overall the game is pretty easy and shouldn't prove to hard or long to get the full 1,000:gsicon:

Here's how the roadmap will be laid out:

  • Story
  • Story Misc
  • Coop [Multiplayer]

Note:

Just to inform you before you read any further, the guide will be laid out in how the achievements will unlock as you advance through the campaign. So if you follow it from achievement to achievement, you shouldn't miss on story related and misc achievement.

Story:

The campaign in the game is a little longer than the previous Portal but its a fun ride and achievement wise isn't to daring. There's a few achievements you'll need to look out for but these will be mentioned in the 'Story Misc' section.

Here is a full list of the story related achievements which cannot be missed:

  • Wake Up Call
  • You Monster
  • Undiscouraged
  • Bridge Over Troubling Water
  • SaBOTour
  • Stalemate Associate
  • Vertically Unchallenged
  • Tater Tote
  • Stranger Than Friction
  • White Out
  • Dual Pit Experiment
  • Tunnel of Funnel
  • The Part Where He Kills You
  • Lunacy

For more information on each achievement, please see the guide below.

Story Misc:

These will be all the misc achievements that you'll have to watch out for. Some are pretty simple, and others may take some time and a bit of skill + re-doing of a course. All of these are in the main solo play campaign and cannot be done in the coop story.

When looking through the guide, both the Story/Story Misc achievements I've posted will be in order of when you unlock them.

Here's a full list of all the Misc Story achievements:

  • Drop Box
  • Pturretdactyl
  • Final Transmission
  • Preservation of Mass
  • Overclocker
  • Good Listener
  • No Hard Feelings
  • Scanned Alone
  • Schrodinger's Catch
  • Ship Overboard
  • Door Prize
  • Portrait of a Lady
  • You Made Your Point
  • Smash TV
  • Pit Boss

For more information on each achievement, please see the guide below.

Coop [Multiplayer]:

Now the coop is a mix and match and not all need to be done over XBL, but its easier to keep them all under one group (Online) for many reasons, as some of you may not be able to play via a system link or split screen.. All but 2 of the achievements - Friends List With Benefits & Professor Portal - can be gained via system link or split screen with a second controller but a few you'll have to get a XBL friend involved to unlock them.

When looking through the guide both the Coop [Multiplayer] achievements I've posted will be in order of when you unlock them or be looking out for them.

Here's a full list of all the Coop [Multiplayer] achievements:

  • Narbacular Drop
  • Air Show
  • High Five
  • Team Building
  • Rock Portal Scissors
  • Triple Crown
  • Iron Grip
  • Confidence Building
  • Empty Gesture
  • Portal Conservation Society
  • Can't Touch This
  • Bridge Building
  • Four Ring Circus
  • Party of Three
  • Still Alive
  • Obstacle Building
  • Gesticul-8
  • Asking for Trouble
  • You Saved Science
  • Friends List With Benefits
  • Professor Portal

For more information on each achievement, please see the guide below.

Conclusion:

Again, the game is pretty simple and not too difficult to get the full 100%. Some achievements may take some time but its nothing out of the ordinary!

Use an Aerial Faith Plate to launch a turret

This and the next 2 achievements [Final Transmission + Drop Box] can be gained in Chapter 2 - Advanced Aerial Faith Plate Test Chamber 6. So please read ahead a bit, so you don't make any mistakes or miss them.

When you get to this chamber, play through it until you come to the switch on the other side and make sure both your portals are still on the inclined slabs. Now press it once and the tube back where you started will shoot out loads of junk. Wait for it all to settle around the chamber, near you or down below behind you and then look for the turret.

Once you've found it, and if you can from your current position, pick it up [:xbut:] and make 2 portals so you head back to the start. Head over to the launch pad with the turret in hand and drop [:xbut:] it on it.

Find the hidden signal in one of the Rat Man's dens

Following on from the turret, you now need to find the radio. Again once you've found it, portal your way back to the start. Now look over to the two inclined slabs and put a portal on the right hand side one. Then on the wall to its left in the top right corner [so when you hit one portal and come out of the other, you'll fly across and over the top of them], put the opposite coloured portal.

Now pick the radio up, hit the launch pad and let the scene play out. When you come out of the second portal you'll land in a secret rat man room. Walk into it and the achievement will unlock.

Place a cube on a button without touching the cube

Now following on from the above achievements, head your way back to the switch. If you look to the left corner you'll see the button you need to get the cube onto. Look above it and place a portal on the ceiling slab. Now put a portal of the opposite colour on the first inclined slab.

Push the button again, the cube will be released and will now land on the button without you ever touching it.

Break the rules in Test Chamber 07

This can be gained in Chapter 2 – Test Chamber 7.

This one is a lot easier than is seems but you would miss it without knowing you could do it [make sense?]. Play the chamber as normal up until the point of walking through the exit door.

The disintegration field on the door is broken, so head through it and place a portal on the wall on the other side of it. Now head back into the main chamber and put another portal on another passable wall. Now pick the cube up, walk through it and head to the lift for the achievement to unlock.

During this chapter you'll come to a part with 2 conveyor belts which are the full of dead turrets. Its on the second one where you'll find the 'not so dead' one.

Make your way from the first belt across to the second and work your way down. You'll notice the turret as it still has a flashing laser light. When it gets close, simply pick it up to unlock the achievement.

A little further into the chapter, you'll come across a turret scanner. Once you've made your way into the control room with Wheatley, let the scene play out until he's smashed the glass. Now put a portal on the inside of the booth and one outside.

Enter it, walk to the turret and lift it off. Now walk into the space where the turret was and let the scanner scan you for the achievement to unlock.

You'll obtain this during Chapter 5 and it is story related, so it cannot be missed.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-gBGuo=.jpgDoor Prize 20:gsicon:

Examine all the vitrified test chamber doors

This can be gained in Chapter 6.

For this achievement you'll need to find 6 doors which has the word 'VITRIFIED' painted across them in yellow and an intercom button on the wall next to them. Once you've found one of the doors, press the intercom button for it to count towards your total. Some don't have the 'VERTIFIED' on them, so look out for the intercom, but they're all in groups of 3.

The first 3 are once you've taken the lift up the tall metal rig, exit and u-turn to the left. You'll see across the gap a little walkway and 3 doors. Place a portal across the gap then one on the wall to your left.

You may now want to refer to 'Master the Repulsion Gel' & 'Schrodinger's Catch' below before you look for the final 3 doors, seeing as they're later on in chapter 6 and there's still some achievements you'll need to get before you get to there. Once you've got them, see to the paragraph below.

The next 3 are in the same corridor you take to get the 'Ship Overboard' achievement. After a long way into the chapter 6 you'll exit through a door and be in an open area. If you look across the area you'll see a glass building with a banner saying 'CONTROL ROOM' across it in yellow.

Make your way up and in there and look in the left corner behind a cabinet. You'll come across hidden metal door which will automatically open as you get near. Walk through it and you'll see the remaining 3 doors and their intercoms.

From here please refer to 'Ship Overboard' once you have the final 3 doors.

This can be gained in Chapter 6.

While making your way around the destroyed base, you'll finally come to a room which has a cube locked inside a glass box. Make a save before you start this and follow the tactic in the video below.

Its the best, fastest and safest way to do this without having to do multiple tries and I got it first time doing it this way.

This can be gained in Chapter 6.

Following on from 'Door Prize's' position:

After a long way into the chapter 6 you'll exit through a door and be in an open area. If you look across the area you'll see a glass building with a banner saying 'CONTROL ROOM' across it in yellow.

Make your way up and in there and look in the left corner behind a cabinet. You'll come across hidden metal door which will automatically open as you get near.

Walk and follow the corridor all the way to the end and walk through the blasted open door to the right. Once you're in the new area, walk down the walkway to your left and as soon as you get to the gate the achievement will unlock.

Once you've cleared the first Propulsion Gel room and walked through the door, head along the cat walk but stop a bit short and you'll notice a locked gate to your left. Now carry on down the walk way until the metal plates break up revealing a gap and wall at the top of the stairs.

Portal the wall and then put a portal on the wall to your right. Walkthrough, and head right into the office. The portrait is on your right.

This can be gained in Chapter 8.

After you've put the moving cube on the button and confronted Wheatley, you'll then make your way along a walkway then up a lift. When you enter the next area you'll be in a new test chamber.

You'll see the button in front of you when you enter. Now don't touch it! Just stand still and let Wheatley talk and after a while he'll get annoyed, the screen will slightly shake and pop goes the achievement.

Break 11 test chamber monitors

This can be gained in Chapter 8 – Chambers 1-19.

From chapter 8, you'll come across some large, portrait video monitors with Wheatley's face on them. Your objective is to smash all 11 as you make your way through the follow champers.

There's a couple of ways to smash them. You can either use momentum from either yourself, a cube or a turret. You can use a turret itself, just simple place it in range and facing the monitor and it will shoot it. The last one is to direct the laser beams at it for a few seconds. Once the glass has been broken/smashed it counts as breaking it.

Note: Ignore the video for monitor #10. If you look opposite it, there a portal wall up above and one on the floor below. Do the jump down and through momentum thing and you can smash it with yourself. You do not need the propulsion gel!

Wheatley tricks you as you enter this chamber and hit the launch pad. When you finally land on the platform surrounded by his death trap, aim and shoot a portal on the wall up ahead past him and then when the Conversion Gel hits you, put a portal under your feet.

Now that you're on the walkway, start to walk away from Wheatley. He'll then ask you to come back and jump in the pit below. Doing so, and killing yourself will net you the achievement.

Celebrate your cooperative calibration success

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This is the first thing you do when you start up a new coop game. Its just some simple tests and chambers to introduce you to the coop features and gameplay.

Once you reach the end, both robots will high five and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-gyI-Y=.jpgNarbacular Drop 25:gsicon:

Place a portal under your co-op partner while they are gesturing

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

To preform any gesture, simple press :udpad:and use the :rs: to to select what gesture you want to do.

This can be done as soon as you're heading to the first course. While you walk along the platform towards the door to the left you'll see a portal slab on the floor in the corner. Have your partner wait here over the slab.

Now head up and go through the door. Look to the right and you'll see another portal wall. Place a portal here and head back to your partner. Have them pull a 'wave' gesture and as soon as they do, put the opposite portal under their feet and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-+xwbo=.jpgFour Ring Circus 25:gsicon:

Enter 4 different portals without touching the ground in co-op

This can be gained in Course 1 – Team Building Test Chamber 1 or Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 5 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

In the room with the 2 buttons is where you'll be preforming this. You'll want to partner to place his 2 portals down on the floor, side by side. Then you'll want to walk up and place one of your portals next to them.

Now look up and place your 2nd portal above your partners 2nd portal – so the middle one in the line. Now jump into your portal so that you come out of the ceiling, land in your partners 2nd portal and come out the first one. As you come out the first one, make sure you look up at at ceiling and as you exit place you second portal again, so you come out of your original one.

It may sound hard reading the above, but its actually quite easy and the video below explains it well!

Perform all 8 gestures of your own volition in co-op

When you unlock a new gesture, the robots will preform it automatically. This does not count as you personally doing it. So as soon as you unlock a new one, bring up the gesture menu and preform it again.

Preform all 8 for the achievement to unlock:

  • Wave
  • High Five
  • Rock, Paper, Scissors
  • Laugh
  • Dance
  • Core Grab
  • Hug
  • Portal Shot

Taunt GLaDOS in front of a camera in each of the five co-op courses

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

The first glimpse of what you need to do for this is at the end of the test chambers. When you reach the end you'll go into camera view of what GLaDOS is seeing. This is what you need to do in each of the 5 courses.

Just get in front of a camera and do any gesture you see fit. As long as it goes into the camera view it counts.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-vz0tA=.jpgAir Show 20:gsicon:

Perform 2 aerial gestures before touching the ground in co-op

This can be gained in Course 1 – Team Building Test Chamber 1 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

Simply put a portal on the ground and one vertically above it. Then have your partner or yourself jump in and preform 2 'wave' gestures!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-633AE=.jpgRock Portal Scissors 20:gsicon:

Win 3 co-op games of rock-paper-scissors in a row

This can be gained in Course 1 – Team Building Test Chamber 4 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

First off you can only unlock the achievement if you initiate the gesture! You'll unlock this gesture when you start chamber 4. Now just face one another and choose the Rock, Paper & Scissors gesture on the right. You need to win 3 in a row and its all down to luck.

If your guy cheers and jumps around then its a win, if he puts his head in his hands its a loss and if both of them shake their heads is a draw which does not count as a loss or win. See below for a little trick on how to get it faster.

The game seems to cheat you out a lot when you reach 2 wins and the 3rd is always a loss. As stated above you must initiate the gesture for it to unlock BUT its does not matter when! I noticed that when your partner did the gesture, you would get 2 wins in a row most of the time!

So have you partner initiate the gesture, let your guy get 2 wins, then you initiate the next one for the 3rd win in a row. You now have a higher chance on winning 3 in a row doing it this way instead of you constantly doing the gesture.

Complete all test chambers in the Team Building co-op course

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

Complete all test chambers in the Mass and Velocity co-op course

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

These are a total of 8 chambers you play in this coop course. Simply go through them and once you reach the end of the 8th chamber, the achievement will unlock once you're back at the HUB.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-za8E8=.jpgIron Grip 20:gsicon:

Never lose a cube in Chamber 6 of the Mass and Velocity co-op course

This can be gained in Course 2 – Mass and Velocity Test Chamber 6 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This chamber is made up of 2 rooms. The first has a cube in it but you can't/shouldn't lose it. The next room is where timing is everything. Place a portal on the hanging slab above the entrance and then another on the incline one across the water to your side.

Now one of you use the launch pad to access the other side of the area and then get ready to use the launch pad next to the cube chute. Your partner should be at the start, ready to push the button to release the cube. What happens is, when its released it'll fall out and get sprung to the other end of the room near inclined portal but it won't go through it. That's the point when its that close that you have to grab it otherwise it'll be to high.

Hit the launch pad, and as you get about half way in the air, have your partner hit the switch. By the time you come out of the second portal, be ready to grab the cube right away. This all comes down to timing, so if you miss it and it falls into the water or its too high up for you to grab, then you can simply restart the chamber later on from the menu.

Solve 3 co-op chambers in the Mass and Velocity course in under 60 seconds each

This can be gained in Course 2 – Mass and Velocity Test Chambers 1-8 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You'll most likely have to do these again, after you've completed them once. Learn what to do, and where to be at the right time and you should have no trouble getting through some of the chambers in under 60 seconds.

You don't have to do all 3 chambers in a row, you just need to complete 3 under 60 seconds. So if you fail one, just return to the HUB and start again. The best ones to do this on are chambers 2, 3 & 4.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-yl7Kg=.jpgBridge Building 15:gsicon:

Complete all test chambers in the Hard-Light Surfaces co-op course

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

These are a total of 8 chambers you play in this coop course. Simply go through them and once you reach the end of the 8th chamber, the achievement will unlock once you're back at the HUB.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-q56pA=.jpgEmpty Gesture 25:gsicon:

Drop your co-op partner in goo while they are gesturing by removing the bridge under them

This can be gained in Course 3 – Hard-Light Surfaces Test Chambers 1 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

As soon as you start this chamber you'll see the light-bridge. Place a portal on the wall at the other end then one up above so it goes over the goo to your right. Then have you partner jump on and make their way across it until they're above the goo gap.

Now have them make a gesture and while doing so, place your portal in a different location on the wall so the light-bridge is moved from under their feet, thus making them fall to their death.

Complete Chamber 3 in the Hard-Light Surfaces co-op course using only 5 total portal placements

This can be gained in Course 3 – Hard-Light Surfaces Test Chambers 3 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This may take a few tries an it can be tricky in some areas. The chamber consists of 2 rooms and you can only use a total of 5 portals between you. So if you use 4 you or your partner can only use one more before the counter hits 5. So remember its not 5 portals each.

You'll want to use 3 portals in the first room, then 2 in the second. The best way to complete this without a wall of text is to watch the video below as it shows it at its best!

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-iY4yU=.jpgCan't Touch This 10:gsicon:

Dance in front of a turret blocked by a hard light bridge in co-op

This can be gained in Course 3 – Hard-Light Surfaces Test Chambers 6 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You can do this right at the start and it doesn't actually have to be a dance gesture (I used 'wave'). When you start look through the light-bridge and to your right and you'll see 4 turrets behind a bared cage.

Simply look at them and do a gesture and the achievement will unlock.

Complete all test chambers in the Excursion Funnels co-op course

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

These are a total of 8 chambers you play in this coop course. Simply go through them and once you reach the end of the 9th chamber, the achievement will unlock once you're back at the HUB.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-nS22U=.jpgParty of Three 25:gsicon:

Find the hidden companion cube in co-op test chamber

This can be gained in Course 4 – Excursion Funnels Chamber 9 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This is pretty much at the end of the 9th chamber. Once you make your way through the last checkpoint gate use the Excursion Funnel to get across the first gap and make sure your partner blocks the turrets. Take the funnel to the end and look down to your right for a place to put another portal to carry on your journey.

Place the portal and fall. As you enter the new area, you'll see a walkway to the left and a office type building to the right and then the gap you're going through inbetween them. Just before you reach the office, look left and re-direct the funnel so that you're now heading right along it.

Just stay in the funnel and keep looking along the same wall as the office. A wall will open which will reveal the cube and the achievement will unlock.

Complete Course 4 with neither you nor your co-op partner dying

This can be gained in Course 4 – Excursion Funnels Chamber 1-9 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This will take some time. You'll most definitely have to go through this course to get all 9 chambers memorized so that you make no mistakes.

Just go into each one, learn how to play it and don't worry about deaths. Set up a plan of who does what in each course so you don't make any portal placement mistakes and you should be good to go. Please remember that this all has to be in one go and cannot be done by doing one chamber at a time then quitting out. So if you die at chamber 9, you'll need to do 1-8 all over again.

Complete all test chambers in all courses of co-op

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You'll have a total 39 chambers to complete across 5 chambers to unlock this achievement.

Course 1 - Team Building Chambers 1–6

Course 2 - Mass and Velocity Chambers 1-8

Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chambers 1-8

Course 4 - Excursion Funnels Chambers 1-9

Course 5 - Mobility Gels Chambers 1-8

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-0JMcA=.jpgFriends List With Benefits 50:gsicon:

While playing co-op, hug 3 different people on your friends list

This has to be gained over XBL as split-screen does not count.

You'll first need to make sure the person is on your friends list and that when you go to hug them, you're in your game. You'll also need to make sure you've passed or got to Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 8 as this is where you unlock the hug gesture.

Now simply invite your friend into your game and use the hug gesture. Repeat 2 more times and the achievement will unlock.

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/1383/5-oTKkM=.jpgProfessor Portal 75:gsicon:

After completing co-op, complete Calibration Course online with a friend who hasn’t played before

This can be gained in Calibration Course and has to be gained over XBL as split-screen does not count.

You first need to make sure you've completed all the coop courses. Now once you've done that you need to find a partner that hasn't touched any part of the Portal 2 coop story [single player does not matter].

You cannot gain this achievement over split-screen or using any form of guest accounts. It has to be over XBL. Once you've found your partner, invite them to a new coop game and complete the Calibration Course for the achievement to unlock!

Thanks buddy! Yours is looking good to! I finally got the chance to sit down last night and finish it off and 1k it lol

I started writing the guide before release date but then said screw it and deleted all my information (was only about 30% done) and then 3 days later said "damnit, I want to make a guide again for Portal 2".

There is only one problem with your guide, and that is that it's looking good! =p And the reason I say that is bad is because that means I have competition for the main site guide! And I believe I will get my bronze roadmap and achievement guide awards after this one! But hey, I like writing guides whether I get the award or not! Best of luck! I'm heading off to bed

I was the same! I left it until way into the story to then decide to make one! There were some main reasons and one was because of the first guide put up. I hated looking at it and the OP not editing it when people said it was wrong etc..

Though I didn't actually want to make a guide for this game I was going to let others come in and make one but seeing that one up for so long and nothing else (eg yours) popping up drove me to making it lol.

Actually looking at it and seeing what guides aren't stuck yet from my list. If this one does and I do one more and it also gets a stick I'll be on Gold lol.

I've now to to sort the layout for submission but that can wait until the month is up for the sub rules etc! lol

Really great guide Noz, Good work :D

I still haven't received my copy yet (expecting it to arrive on Tuesday/tomorrow), So this should come in Handy.

This is the only thing that's bugging me though, I don't really like to watch a part of walkthrough, where no achievements is popping. it gets' a little confusing mate.

It would be much appreciated if you could find another video or write down the time, of where the part is :)

you get this in the part where the scanner is scanning the turret routines. and you have to remove it and replace it with a dud turret. just stand in the scanner

I knew that, it was just the video, It doesn't state where the achievement is located, and it starts from Chapter 4 till 5.

Another video or just write down the time for where it is should do it, as i stated above :)

"Take GLaDOS' escape advice

This can be gained in Chapter 2's escape.

While escaping GlaDOS with Wheatley, you'll come to a part where she'll reveal the 'last test chamber' and a light bridge will form. Instead of going right and following Wheatly, take the left route and into the 'last chamber'.

Once inside you'll be confronted by a nice surprise and the achievement will unlock."

on this one, it should say chapter 4 instead of chapter 2

For the Schrodinger's Catch achievment, I found this too, but I didn't put the gel on a second time. After washing it off, I simply jumped in and picked it up off the bottom of the cage. I guess because it was bouncing before and I picked it up without it touching the ground, it still counted.

I think the 8-10 hours is a little too generous. I would calculate it as: 6.5-7.5hrs (for sp w/ mop-up), and 3-5hrs (for co-op w/ mop-up)

I think it's closer to 10-12+ hours personally, and if nobody else agrees, then I will not speak of it again. :p

PS. It's a shame Overkill gave both other guides a 1-star rating.

Coop [Multiplayer]:

Now the coop is a mix and match and not all need to be done over XBL, but its easier to keep them all under one group (Online) for many reasons, as some of you may not be able to play via a system link or split screen.

You say this in the roadmap but in the overview you've put this:

Online: 2 [125http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/misc/g-icon.gif]
and grouped the rest of the co-op achievements under Offline.

I don't know whether this is a oversight on your part or me not reading the sentence correctly.

I seemed to notice that I would always win the rock paper scissor games if i held the gesture till it activated, as opposed to flicking to the gesture with the stick, can someone else confirm this as I might be slowly going out of my mind without a companion cube present
