sweatdog
The term "progressive rock" is a bit subjective, but I do love a lot of the classic rock bands that have been labeled such. My faves (in no particular order)are: 1. Asia 2. Rush 3. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer 4. Yes and while not a classic rock artist, Muse has been called a modern progressive rock band, so I put them as my 5th choice.

Searmex
No Scar Symmetry? That's a fuckin awesome progressive metal band. Especially their first two albums. Born of Osiris rules too.
s359284
Scar Symmetry is really good. But there are bands that transition between styles a lot more smoothly, rather than just being content with combining them. I thought they were really progressive when they came out--the first two albums were solid, and no doubt that have some great guitar work. But hybrids are the way in metal now, and there are plenty of bands with lots of crazy skill. Dude check out bands like Scarve and Sybreed... much more inspiring than the last two Scar Symmetry albums. My top 5 (past and present) Meshuggah Scarve Sybreed Devin Townsend/SYL Death
