Introduction:
Welcome to Call of Duty: Black Ops. The highly anticipated Call of Duty game released in 2010 from developer Treyarch, so large no other games would release even in the same week for fear of being swept away into oblivion. You play as characters who are special force operatives conducting black operations behind enemy lines in the time of the Cold War.

Breakdown:
Chances are you've played previous CoD games, and this one isn't that much different. If you are going for all the achievements, you will spend considerable time in the single-player campaign. The main choice you have here, is either to go for all the difficulty achievements in one playthrough, or complete the game on a lower difficulty before completing it again for the Veteran achievements. This personal choice. If you decided to play on Veteran later in a second playthrough, know that the game has no way of keeping track of which missions you've completed on Veteran, so it's a good idea to go in order.

After you've beaten the campaign completely, then it's time to clean up for the Zombie-mode achievements, and of course the final multiplayer/online achievements. But before we delved deeper, I should declare that this game does have cheats. From the Main Menu, if you alternate pressing and repeatedly you can escape from the chair, and access the terminal in the room with . By typing in the code ' 3ARC UNLOCK ' you unlock all the missions including all the zombie mode maps. This code does NOT affect achievements. There is another code you can type in: ' 3ARC INTEL ' which unlocks all the Intel in the game, and this code DOES affect achievements, in that you will not be able to obtain the "Closer Analysis" achievement. Please be aware of these two codes.

Step 1. - Start the Campaign

As you start the campaign, keep an eye out for Intel using the Intel Video Guide for each mission. (The video description will have all the time-jumps you need for each mission.) This will help you achieve the "Closer Analysis" Achievement. You'll also want to pay attention to any Mission-specific achievements, which are listed below next to their respective missions. Most of them are pretty easy, but a couple are tricky. If you mess up on any of them, try to kill yourself some how, with a frag grenade if you must (by holding ), because some of the mission achievements are well into the mission and it saves more time getting them right away than playing the entire mission again to get to that point. (This does not apply to the achievement "No Leaks", as if you kill yourself, then you would have effectively failed the achievement)

Completing the campaign will get you 11 story-related achievements that cannot be missed. If you do all the mission-specific achievements listed above, that will give you another 19. Complete the game on Veteran and you will have another 6 which are simply difficulty-related achievements. To round off the campaign, there are achievements that do not relate to any specific mission, but must be done during the campaign, and those are: "Closer Analysis", "Frag Master", and "Sally Likes Blood".

The achievement "Sally Likes Blood" is an exception; although this can be done in the campaign, it can also be completed in the Zombies Mode. However if you complete this during the campaign, you should have completed a total of 39 achievements out of the total 50.

Step 2. - Play Zombie Mode

After you have thoroughly completed the campaign, you should unlock a map for the Zombie-mode called "FIVE". There is an achievement specific to this map, called "Hands Off the Merchandise". You will also want to complete the achievement, "The Collector", after playing Zombie mode for a while and have become more familiar with the maps and gameplay tactics. You have 2 more achievements here related to this Zombie-mode, both of which require at least another player.
  • "See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me"
  • "Sacrificial Lamb"

Zombie mode is a game mode where you defend yourself against a never-ending horde of zombies. Here are a few tips that can help you survive more rounds:
  1. Try to go for headshots. Zombie kills with headshots gives you more points to buy ammo, buy new guns, or unlock new areas.
  2. Teamwork and communication is crucial to staying alive. Make sure you know where all the power-ups are in the map, most notably the Quick Revive machines, Mystery Boxes, Pack-a-Punch machine, and of course the Power Switch.
  3. You can repair barriers by standing next to them and holding , but you can also turn and fire at zombies while repairing, so don't forget to watch your back.
  4. You can clear new areas of the map to access new guns, or even find power-up machines, but don't clear areas unnecessarily, because this gives the zombies more locations to spawn from. Think strategically about using your points and what goals you want to achieve (go for the power switch, looking for the mystery box, etc).
Step 3. - Play Multiplayer/Online/XBOX LIVE

Now you have the zombie achievements out of the way, onto the online achievements. There are only 3 of them.

The "Ready for Deployment" achievement is obtained in Combat Training, while "In the Money" is obtained in Wager Match game mode. Combat Training serves as a primer for those new to online multiplayer, or those that simply want to practice different strategies. In a Wager Match game, all players wager their CoD Points against everyone else, and the top 3 players get the prize, which is also known as being "in the money". "Date Night" achievement involves going to Theater mode, choosing a recent game to download, and then inviting a friend to join your party to watch.

Step 4. - Unique Achievements/Mop-up

The final achievements are quite easy, and they are easter eggs in the game. These are the unique achievements involving accessing the terminal during the Main Menu, and you can complete them whenever you feel like. The achievement "Insert Coin" unlocks the third 'map' of the Zombies Mode called Dead Ops Arcade, which is an old-style top-down shooter. The achievement "Easy Rhino" is obtained in this arcade game.

Conclusion:
So if you were able to beat the game on Veteran, you should have a majority of the achievements. With the help of the achievement guide, you should definitely have all the mission-related achievements. You should be well on your way to 1000. The multiplayer achievements can be completed in time, but the Zombie Mode achievements may give you some grief. Use the tips provided in this roadmap, become more familiar with the maps and you should have them shortly. And lastly, enjoy the online multiplayer! If this guide helped you out, let me know, I put a lot of work into it.

I just wanted to give a big THANKS to all those that supported me in writing this first guide and roadmap. I have been on the forum for a while, and others have helped me, so I wanted to help in return. Special thanks to 'x DIAM0NDZ' for helping me transform the guide into something better. Many thanks to others that give positive comments - I appreciate them all.

After the scene in the Safehouse you have to lead them out safely - watch out for the two tangos after exiting the 'Safehouse', you need to select over them with to take them out. The aim reticule will turn red once you've selected over them. The other tricky area is just making sure to press stick down to go prone, when you need to. Lead your team to the 'Barracks' next, and then finish the scene in there. After leaving the 'Barracks', lead your team North as is directed and the achievement should pop then.
(video credit to: GAMESLATESTvideos)

Mr. Black OP - 50
Enter the Soviet relay station undetected.

In Mission "WMD", after you have finished rappelling down the mountain and proceed down some stairs, you will need to enter the relay station undetected. Use your crossbow to take out the enemies. Take caution - using your silenced gun on some enemies will give your position away. There are a couple of enemies in pairs; if you take out one, your AI team mates should take out the other. Be careful of shooting barrels or the gas can, as this will set off an explosion and compromise the achievement. The last enemy will be at the bottom of the stairs leading to the waypoint - killing him will pop the achievement right afterwards.

With extreme prejudice - 25
Get to the POW compound in the Hind using only rockets.

In Mission "Payback". When you and Woods escape to the POW Compound in the Hind, only use your rockets to take out the enemy. The achievement will show up immediately after you land the Hind.

Russian bar-b-q - 15
Incinerate 10 enemies with the flamethrower attachment in the POW compound.

In Mission "Payback". Immediately after landing the Hind, you will kill an enemy and Woods will tell you to pick up the Flamethrower. Press to switch to it. The achievement will pop after the last enemy has died from being flamed.

Light Foot - 30
Escape the ship with 2:15 left on the timer in Veteran.

In Mission "Project Nova", after you fight the British and escape you must set the explosive. Make sure you clear out all the enemies before planting it. There should be a Mosin–Nagant gun after killing the enemies in the first room. This should help you clear out the enemies in the second room, especially the enemies on the higher walkways. You can shoot through the metal gratings.
After setting the explosive, shoot the highlighted beam and make your way out. As you head out, there will be an enemy outside the door on your right, and another coming on your left. Kill these two, and then sprint down the walkway. There will be a few more enemies climbing onto the ship, but you should have no issues killing them and proceeding. A last enemy should be up high so be forewarned. If you die at any time during this run, you may still have enough time to make the run, as long as there is 2:15 left on the timer.

Some wounds never heal - 10
Escape the Past.

This is story related, and will unlock with natural progression. See "Stand Down" for info.

I hate monkeys - 15
Kill 7 monkeys in under 10 seconds in the Rebirth labs.

In Mission "Rebirth" when you first enter the labs out the elevator, there will be some monkeys in cages on the right side of the hallway. Use grenades/grenade launcher in conjunction with shooting to take them out to make this easier. Throw a grenade killing the monkeys on the right side, then begin shooting at the monkeys in the left lab. This achievement should unlock after you've killed the 7th one.

No Leaks - 50
Make it through the NOVA 6 gas without dying on Rebirth Island.

In Mission "Rebirth", when you are playing as Jason Hudson. This achievement begins when you have exited the tank, and have put on your hazmat suit. My recommendation is to play this on the Recruit difficulty, and take it slow. Use your gun's sights to highlight enemies from afar. You should have this achievement once you have completed the NOVA 6 gas area, and take off the mask.

Clarity - 10
Crack the code.

This is story related, and will unlock with natural progression. See "Stand Down" for info.

Double Whammy 15
Destroy both helicopters with one Valkyrie rocket from the deck of the ship.

In Mission "Redemption". During the objective to destroy the helicopters with the Valkyrie Rocket Launcher, you have to wait until the two helicopters converge near each other and then fire the rocket. You are aiming between the two, and then detonate the rocket by holding down . If you are playing on a higher difficulty, you may have to run for cover inside an alcove. You can determine where the two helicopters are by the yellow markers on your HUD/screen.

Stand Down - 35
Complete the campaign on any difficulty.

These are story related achievements and will unlock with natural progression through the game. Just complete each level on any difficulty.

BLACK OP MASTER - 100
Complete the campaign on Hardened or Veteran difficulty.

Complete the game on either Hardened or Veteran difficulty. You should play the missions in order, because the game does not keep track of which missions you have completed for which difficulty.

Frag Master - 15
Kill 5 enemies with a single frag grenade in the campaign.

In the Mission "The Defector", when you reach the objective to destroy the ZSU gun emplacement, you will head up with Woods upstairs. After clearing out some enemies, you should see a few enemies crowded by a car. If you toss a frag grenade through the window of the car, the resulting blast will kill the enemies and the achievement will pop. If you mess up or you didn't kill 5, cook a grenade to kill yourself and retry the checkpoint.

Alternatively, you can also try for the achievement during the Mission "Operation 40", as you are exiting Castro's compound. You must wait a bit for the enemies to cluster up, and then toss the grenade in the middle of the square. Here is a video of the method (credit goes to 'MrBlingBlingNr1' for the video):

Sally Likes Blood - 15
Demonstrate killer economic sensibilities by taking down 3 enemies with a single bullet.

You can do this in various ways. You can play Dead Ops Arcade (see "Insert Coin" achievement), and kill 3 zombies there with a single bullet. (credit to 'pougalbear' for confirming) Or you can try to line up 3 zombies by playing the Zombie mode. If you prefer to try it during the single-player campaign, I have detailed information below.

In the Mission "Numbers", when you are escaping with Dr. Clarke, he should open up his weapons cache. Grab the PSG1 gun from his wall, and as he opens the door, aim down the hallway and you will see an enemy running towards you. If you time it correctly, there will also be 2 other enemies right in-line behind him. If you shoot them all the achievement will pop up immediately. If you need to retry, just kill yourself with a grenade to restart the checkpoint. You have flashbangs in this level as well, if you need to stun enemies in place.

Unconventional Warfare - 15
Use the explosive bolts to kill 30 enemies in the campaign.

In Mission "Executive Order" and "WMD" you can use explosive bolts. "Executive Order" you may have an easier time since there are more enemies here. The achievement will pop once you've kill the 30th enemy.

Cold Warrior - 25
Complete "Operation 40," "Vorkuta," and "Executive Order" on Veteran difficulty.

Make sure to mark down which mission you have completed as a checklist each achievement. The game has no way of telling you which mission you have completed on which difficulty.

Executive Order on Veteran is one of the most trying missions, since there is a point where you must fight against infinite respawns. Since a detailed description may be outside the scope of this guide, I have attached a video. For any further questions, I'll answer them in this thread.

I have provided a video for all the Intel Locations. For a specific mission, check the video description and click on the specific time.
If you want text-only information of the Intel locations, please check out this guide made by 'mistical':
http://www.videogamesblogger.com/201...ps3-pc-wii.htm

Date Night - 15
Watch a film or clip with a friend.

This can only be done in Theater mode with a friend. Just invite them.

In The Money - 20
Finish 5 Wager Matches "in the money."

This achievement is done in multiplayer. "In The Money" refers to being in the top 3, so 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Do this 5 times and the achievement should pop up.

Ready For Deployment - 15
Reach rank 10 in Combat Training.

This achievement is done in multiplayer.

The Collector - 20
Buy every weapon off the walls in a single Zombies game.

This achievement is done in the Zombie mode, in a single game session. You need to buy every weapon off the walls of a single Zombies game. This means you need to have racked up enough points to open all the doors, and also have enough points to buy all the weapons. The last part is finding where all the weapons are located. I have detailed a video showing where all the weapons are for the first map Kino der Toten, along with the points required for each weapon. The best way is to open up all the doors to access the complete map, locate all the weapons, accumulate enough points to purchase all the weapons, and then in any round, kill all the zombies except one. This will give you an easier time going from one area to another. Once you've bought them all, an achievement will pop up immediately.

Hands Off the Merchandise - 20
Kill the Pentagon thief before it can steal your load-out.

The Pentagon Thief only appears after you have descended down to the 3rd level (by taking the elevators down) of the zombie map "FIVE" and have turned ON the power switch, which is located in one of the lab rooms in the center of that bottom floor. (You open up "FIVE" after beating the game on any difficulty.) This will turn on the teleporters. He will appear randomly after a round has finished. You will hear on the intercom that an alert has been sound, which will let you know he is coming. He can be identified by wearing a lab coat, goggles, and has gray hair. He is very difficult to kill. Also, the elevators will have a 'Security 115 clearance' on them during this time, so you will not be able to use them. He will run slowly at first, but will pick up speed and will be able to outrun you. If he steals your loadout, he will begin running away very fast, through teleporters until he finally disappears completely.

The strategy to kill the Pentagon Thief is as follows:
As you start, go buy a Quick Revive (500 pts). This is for insurance. Then, continue to kill the zombies as they come, until you have 500 pts to buy the M14. You want this gun over the Olympia because it can do headshots easier, when each headshot kill gives you 100 pts. After you have built up 750 pts, you want to open the map up, into the hallway that leads to the elevator. Continue to kill the zombies, but immediately once you've gotten 1000 pts, clear the debris to be able to get onto the elevator. Don't use the elevator yet.

From this point on, you want to continue killing the zombies to accumulate at LEAST 2750 pts. When fighting the zombies in this hallway, keep the left and right barriers near the elevator entry boarded up, and focus on the zombies coming down the hallway. Staying close to the elevator allows you to use it for 250 pts in case things get too dangerous and you need a breather. The idea is to use the elevator to go down a floor, and then use it again to go back up, because once you return to the first floor the zombies need to come out of the barriers once again to get you.

After you have 2750 pts, during the existing round you will want to kill all the zombies except 1 (and hopefully the slowest one). Use the elevator (250 pts) and descend down to the next floor, which is the main Pentagon room, with switches that can raise the Pentagon's DEFCON level. Clear the debris to access the lower level (1000 pts), and then clear the debris to access the elevator (1000 pts). Then use the elevator to go down to the labs (250 pts), which will leave you with 250 pts.

The lone zombie should still be following you, he will probably be awaiting your arrival after the elevator doors open to the lab. Ditch him the best you can, he may hit you once but you can still live, just run straight past him and turn at the first left and there should be a lighted lab you can enter that has the power switch. Turn that ON, and then head back to the elevator to return to the Pentagon floor. Now that the power is ON, this allows the Thief to appear.
The next part involves surviving until the Thief shows up, which is randomly after you have cleared a round. So now you can kill the lone zombie and hope the Thief arrives.

Stay on this 2nd floor, and make sure the elevator down to the labs is open. When the intercom sounds that a security breach is on level 3, you know that is when the Thief is coming. This is the important part: you will want to stay inside the elevator (that leads to the labs) and immediately when you hear the security alert that he is coming, cook a grenade to kill yourself. The thief will be coming from the teleportal in the middle of that room. Your gun aim should be focused on that teleporter the entire time, until he shows. When he does, shoot him with everything you've got, taking care you don't injure yourself with any splash damage. You should be able to kill him before he catches up to you, and the achievement should pop up.
(original strategy devised by me, key tactic to down yourself with a grenade credit to 'TheManx')

Sacrificial Lamb - 15
Shoot at or be shot by an ally with a Pack-a-Punch crossbow and kill six zombies with the explosion.

(This strategy is written specifically for the map 'Kino der Toten'. The method applies to all maps, as long as you know where the Pack-a-Punch machine and Mystery Box locations are.)
Firstly, this achievement requires at least two people playing in Zombie mode. Next, you or the other player needs to obtain a crossbow, which can only be found in the Mystery Box which is randomly place on the map. You can either open up the areas randomly, or you can head towards the auditorium to turn the power ON. Turning the power ON allows you to view various blackboards that have a chalk outline of the map area with light bulbs attached. The light bulb which is lighted is the location of the Mystery Box on the map. Head towards there, and use the Mystery Box, which costs 950 points. The weapon you get from the Box is random, so you may have to try several times. After you have obtained the crossbow, you need to head to the 'Pack-a-Punch' machine, which can only be accessed by turning the power ON. The 'Pack-a-Punch' machine costs 5000 points. In 'Kino der Toten', the machine is located in the projector room. In order to get into the projector room, you will need to unlock the doors to the auditorium, and then step on the teleporter pad to activate the link by holding . Then you need to run back to the main room foyer where you started in, and initiate the link there. Finally, you will need to head back to the auditorium back to the teleporter to get to the projector room. You only have a limited time in this room, so don't sit idle. Make sure you have your crossbow weapon as your main weapon, and make a purchase from the 'Pack-a-Punch' machine (5000 pts).
After you have the 'Pack-a-Punch' Crossbow, the other player will need to be shot at with the weapon and the resulting explosion has to kill at least 6 zombies. The best way is to have the person with the crossbow shoot the other player, and have that player run into a group of 6 or more zombies.

"Insert Coin" - 5
Access the terminal and battle the forces of the Cosmic Silverback in Dead Ops Arcade.

After you have escaped from your chair at the Main Menu (see the "Just ask me nicely" achievement), find the terminal in the room. At the terminal, type in 'DOA' (without the ' ) to play Dead Ops Arcade and unlock the achievement.

(credit to: KING COREY 23 YT: ShineLikeGlittah)

Easy Rhino - 10
In Dead Ops Arcade, use a Speed Boost to blast through 20 or more enemies at one time.

You can do this easily in the 1st Round, as shown in the video. Don't shoot any of the enemies, but just lure them around. Once you think you've gotten 20 or more, head around the boat so that they line up nicely, and at the last moment you can press to use the Speed Boost.

See Me, Stab Me, Heal Me - 15
Fire a Pack-a-Punched Ballistic Knife at a downed ally to revive them from a distance.

This achievement is similar to the "Sacrificial Lamb" achievement. You will also need at least 2 players in a single Zombie game session. Refer back to that achievement to find out how to obtain the Pack-a-Punched Ballistic Knife. The only difference is when you are buying from the Mystery Box, you need the Ballistic Knife, instead of the Crossbow weapon.
The best way to get this achievement is have one player get downed by zombies, and have that player clear out as many zombies in the area nearest to the downed player. The player with the Pack-a-Punched Ballistic Knife then has a clear shot at the downed player. Remember that with the knife, at distance it will drop below the aimed point, so adjust for this by aiming higher if need be.
Tip from Finaldark

Just ask me nicely - 15
Break free from the torture chair.

Just alternate pressing and repeatedly at the Main Menu.

Eaten by a Grue - 15
Play Zork on the terminal.

After you have escaped from your chair at the Main Menu (see the "Just ask me nicely" achievement), find the terminal in the room. At the terminal, type in 'Zork' (without the ' ) to play Zork and unlock the achievement.

Very Nice guide! I almost have all the achievements on my offline account so this should help patch some stuff up like the intel items and misc. achievements. I must say however that the veteran achievements are going to need some videos for tips and help, but otherwise looks fantastic. Keep up the good work.

How are there 22 missable achievements? Can't you just go to mission select like every other CoD game, and get it? I wouldn't consider it missable if that's the case.

I'm also a little curious about the 22 missable achievements? Can anyone elaborate?

Also, awesome guide, will definitely be using it after the midnight launch tonight.

Good work, sir. Shall come in handy. Seems like a halfway easy game to 1,000 GS. Veteran, I hear, is going to be a bitch though. Cant wait for tonight to get this!

not trying to criticise but can you be a bit more descriptive with how to get the achievements. i've got most of them but it'd be nice for others to know when and where you get most of them. say like the 'slingshot kid' you should add the best place to aim to get them, because its a pain in the arse using trial and error on them.

Is this for online play? If it's just level 10 for online... I think even I can hack that.

As for the 22 missable achievements, there's just a bunch of level specific achievements, which he lists in the guide. But with level select, then yea, it isn't really missable per say, just a poor choice of words.. you guys are freaking out over nothing.

Combat Training is another playlist in the MP menu, it pits you against AI bots and has it's own separate rank progression. You can play with friends, 6v6.

There are some achievements that can be missed during the missions, like "get to the compound in the hind only using rockets". But if you do miss these all you have to do is select the specific mission from mission select.

If you would like me to change it I will, this aren't completely missable, since you can redo the mission again to get them. By consensus, we can decide on that, it does not really matter to me. You can't really "miss out" on any achievement in this game.

Thanks, those are my golden eggs. Now I just hope no one else (like Rooster Teeth) tries to come by and copy the strat and mark it as their own. Keep an eye out. These strats should only be for this site.

No it doesn't, but that is the standard template questions used for roadmaps. If you would like for me to remove that line, I will.

Check the video out my dude, the level and even the objective in that level is pasted on the video itself. I don't leave things for people to guess. Let me know what achievements you are having issues with, and I'll fill in the details if need be.

The descriptive in the achievement itself is descriptive enough. I was able to complete them without having to need more hints. If you want a video guide for the Vorkuta sling shot mission, you got it.

Veteran is not really that difficult, there are 2-3 points in the game where it is frustrating simply because of the infinite respawn. The later levels are not an issue, at least for me.

Yes, thanks for mentioning that. That is exactly what I mean when I wrote 22 missable achievements. Though they are missable in a playthrough, they are not lost forever.

I have one could you please fill in details for the Hands Off the Merchandise? having trouble getting the zombie to appear?
