Do you recommend this game?

These games need commitment. Before I get into this one, is it worth recommending to someone who enjoyed Final Fantasy VII?

Comparing Final Fantasy VII with Blue Dragon wouldn't make much sense, but if you like JRPGs you want to play this game. The story is shabby, but the gameplay is good (although easy on the regular difficulties), and it's also long lasting.

If you haven't already played them, Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia are the two masterpieces among the JRPGs of the x360 and I'd recommend them more than Blue Dragon, which is still a good one, but its story and easiness cost it some points.
The atmosphere of Lost Odyssey is the closest one to Final Fantasy VII's anyway.

So, I would recommend Blue Dragon, but only after LO and ToV.

I've just checked out Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia on YouTube. They both look good but a quick visit to Amazon made up my mind. ToV - new is 90 quid! A quick look on eBay - over 30 and could end higher. Lost Odyssey on the other hand has a used price on Amazon of 2.96. Would you say the price is a reflection of quality or is ToV for collectors?

Tales of Vesperia was released in a very esigue amount of copies, and until a few months ago it was almost impossible to find it, new or used, even on the internet; the few used copies available were for like 80+ each. Now the game came on the marketplace, so the online sellers can't abuse of the unavailability of the game in the stores and have lowered the price, which is still rather high since the game is a good one, belongs to a famous series, and is still not common (you can't find it in local stores, and new copies of it are very expensive, if there is any at all).

I doubt Tales of Vesperia will be available for lower costs anytime soon (actually, it's very likely to be stationary or increase in price as the time passes), so get the deal and buy it for 30: it's worth it. Lost Odyssey never had problems with limited amounts of copies, it stands for its own, but its current price doesn't reflect its value (I'd value it around 25 right now, but only because it's been years since its release). Considering the whole of it, it's probably a step behind Tales of Vesperia; considering the story, it's three steps beyond it. Trust me, you'll fall in love with the story of Lost Odyssey and if you like JRPGs you will play Tales of Vesperia for hundreads of hours and never get bored.

The videos on youtube won't give you idea on how good Lost Odyssey is, since it's the whole atmosphere of that game which makes it so "special" (gameplay videos probably show a "meh" game without anything particular), and also Tales of Vesperia, with a load of sidequests, abilities to learn and basically a whole world to explore, can't be glorified with gameplay videos.

So, again, if you want an advice from one who likes JRPGs, buy both and play Lost Odyssey first; after the fantastic adventure with it, start your journey with Yuri (ToV ;p).

Thank you for explaining that. I'll get Lost Odyssey and keep an eye out for Tales of Vesperia second hand. Call me old fashioned but I still like to own a game I can physically touch and see in my collection so I'd rather pay the extra. Cheers.

Yea, I meant buying a real copy of it (even if, sigh, pre-owned), not a shabby digital copy. I know what you mean, and especially for games like these it's a sort of "honor" to have them in your collection
You won't regret your choice. Have fun ^^

Just give it a whirl; buy it pre-owned and if not then you'll not have wasted alot of cash.

I have over 24 hours of gameplay logged, but I'm only 1/3 of the way through. ONly get if you will devote days of time

I own all 3 of the games recommened in this thread. I personally love Blue Dragon. In my opinion it has a pretty good storyline. It is worth the $10 you pay for. ToV was a very good game as was lost odyssey. In terms of achievements: i found Lost Odssey to be easiest. I Tho both LO and Blue Dragon have max character achievements. Not my favorite.

If you are playing just storyline all of them are worth the commitment and time. You won't be disappointed If you are, the Gamertag is Auron Surmount

I forgot about Last Remnant! That is an awesome game too! All of which you have to devote days of time towards. But is well worth the gameplay!

I have a friend who really liked Blue Dragon, so I tried the demo and didn't care for it. To each his own.

Blue Dragon costs next to nothing and its in no way a restricted JRPG. In fact it's a damn good one. Developed by Mistwalker, characters designed by Akira Toriyama and music by Nobu Uematsu.

If ya like JRPGs, Blue Dragon couldn't be recommeded enough.

I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the turn based battle systems of games like Final Fantasy.
Unlike the second poster, I feel the storyline was quite intrinsic. Maybe a little childish, but some of the best stories start off hard to grasp.

I've played and loved every Final Fantasy (including 7) and I loved the idea and story of Blue Dragon just like I loved Final Fantasy 7, you can't really compare them but I would recommend this game, yes!
