Install Size Chart (Old)

With the NXE (New Xbox Experience) update, users were now able to install their games directly to their HDD. The benefits included faster load times (with the exception of a few), quieter drive, and no disc reading.

As of August 11th, 2009, another update was applied that would reduce the size of the install file. Below you will be able to find Xbox 360 games and their respective install size after the August 11th, 2009 update, and the difference compared to the NXE install size.

NOTE: It appears on average that there is at least a minimum of 100 MB saved (again, with the exception of a few), however, some games are reduced by an upwards of 3 GB. As of now, NTSC/PAL games will have the same install size. Also special thanks to everyone who has contributed, without such contributions this thread would not be able to exist!

*constantly updating, share experiences please!*

Install Size Chart

+ Green denotes a postive change (file size decreased from NXE install size).
+ Red denotes a negative or zero change (file size has increased or is the same as the NXE install size).
+ Black denotes an unknown change (file size change is unknown due to a release post August 11th, 2009 or information has not yet been acquired)

Not sure how useful this will be as I am sure there is a website for this somewhere, but to contribute anyway:

Guitar Hero II // 3.4 GB // 2.4 GB
Guitar Hero III // 3.4 GB // 3.4 GB (read elsewhere not personally found)
Ninety-Nine Nights // 5.6 GB // 5.4 GB

I can't remember the details for my other games.

They only have 1 game with the new size. At the very least this list can be used for the other lists around the web.

Thanks everyone, updating now!

Surprisingly, Mass Effect stayed at 6.8 GB.

Keep em coming!

[EDIT] Just installed Halo 3, went from 6.3 GB to 5.7 GB. Again, not recommended that you install as it increases load times, but I did so to prevent the disc from spinning and quiet down the system.

Dead Rising should have a warning next to it like Halo 3 =)

Since Capcom said installing Dead Rising would increase load times =)

Thanks for the above times. I'll add them once you get the Aug 11th numbers. Also I figured out the Ghostbusters NXE install time for you =P

I'll need some more confirmations or a link, but I'd be happy to add it once I get confirmation.

May I make a suggestion, change the games that go down in space green or something and the ones that stay change them to red to make it easier at a glance or something

And possibly a [-1GB] at the end or something, other than that a great idea

I was thinking about that, just trying to figure a way to add it.

I added a [x.x GB] at the front, green indicates positive change, red indicates no change or negative change.

Does it look out of place or too annoying?

I think it looks fine, if anything I think the // is a little annoying

but now I can easily find say Call of Duty and see that its Green for example and know its positive instead of looking through the // for its old/new rating

but now I can easily find say Call of Duty and see that its Green for example and know its positive instead of looking through the // for its old/new rating
Alright cool. I added the '//' in just as a divider until I can come up with something else. If anyone has any ideas on how to seperate the NXE Installs and Post Aug 11th installs suggest away =P

Working on Lost Odyssey Disc 2 and Madden 2009 now.

[EDIT] Lost Odyssey Disc 2 is done, Disc 3 is also done.

I personally would recommend installing it if playing the campaign and then removing when done as it was primarily for online matchmaking that it was not recommended.

I suggest creating a Wiki page for it and doing a table, easier to maintain and update, check out the one I created for Deals of the Week for an idea on how it can look.

I was considering making a table of some kind but I'm not sure how to formulate it into a forum-esc one.

For now I'll just leave it as be until I collect more information and decide what to do from there. I wasn't really considering a wiki-type page, was only planning on having it on Xbox360Achievements forum.

My main reason for suggesting a Wiki is that there are a lot of games and it would be easier to maintain if people can edit the page themselves with the games they have tested.

Also, if like me you do not have both details for your games to cross compare you can enter one and someone else can fill in the blank.

The problem with that is it becomes extremely redundant seeing the words NXE and Aug11 =/

Gotta think about how to format things >.<

Ah. No worries I'll just leave it as is for now. Until things become extremely chaotic or there's a huge information void I'll consider other things.

Working on the final Lost Odyssey Disc.

There is one thing I really want to know though as nobody seems to have bothered looking into it. Are there any games which vary in install size across regions? I know most wouldn't as the game is the same worldwide, but some will be different due to included language files or other things and does that have any influence on install size?

How about

[0.4 GB] Fallout 3 New: 5.5GB Old: 5.9GB
or
[0.4 GB] Fallout 3 N: 5.5GB O: 5.9GB
or
Fallout 3 5.5GB [-0.4 GB]

I like something along those lines, after all, who really needs to know the pre-update install sizes, a quick statement saying post update give x reduction should suffice.

I'll leave it as is for now just to compile some more information. If others feel the same I'll change how the layout is.

On a side note, completed both Lost Odyssey Discs 3/4 and Madden 09.

I'll put my 10 cents in here.

Prince of Persia went from 6.1GB to 5.2GB
Prototype stayed the same (sadly)
