Achievement Guide and Road Map

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME FRIEND REQUESTS. I AM HAPPY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS BUT I MAY HAVE RENTED/TRADED THE GAME ALREADY. I DON'T ACCEPT RANDOM FRIEND REQUESTS.

Roadmap:

- Estimated achievement difficulty: 7-8/10

- Approximate time: 16+ Hours

- Offline: 1000

- Online: 0
- Missable Achievements: 3 (Freakshow Rodeo, Leave No Man Behind, Party Pooper)

- Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2 (Suggested)

- Avatar Awards: 0

- Glitched achievements: 0

- Cheats: 0

Introduction:

Play your way through riddles, puzzles and taking on the odd Gotham psychopaths as you make your way through Arkham Asylum to stop the Joker playing his sick games. As you complete various tasks through the game you will unlock challenges and various other trophies. Your going to have to spend most of your time thinking about how to take on most enemies and playing with different techniques to take them out so be prepared to deal the scum of Gotham, solve the Riddler's puzzles and fight your way through the challenge arenas.

Breakdown:
Most of the game is fairly straight forward, solve the puzzles and beat your way through the various enemies. Half of the achievements are story related and can't be missed, there are a few that can be missed without knowing.

Riddles:
As you start to solve the riddles you may feel a little overwhelmed. There are 240 riddle challenges in the game but there not all related to answering the riddles. You will need to find and answer the following items:
  • Answer the riddles
  • Destroy the chattering teeth
  • Find all the stone plaques
  • Collect every audio interview
  • Find all question marks
  • Collect all the riddler trophies
Before you start looking some of these items you will need a few upgrades, you must have the Explosive Gel, Batclaw, Upgraded Batclaw, Upgraded Cryptographic Sequencer, Zipline. You will be able to collect quite a few of these items early on but others you will need to progress through the game until you have obtained all the required upgrades.

If your not to concerned about the riddles and collectibles while going through the game you can go back and pick them up once you have finished the main story. Just continue your game after the credits and use the following guides to help you find and solve each one.

Riddles Guide
Riddles Challenge Guide

Playthrough 1:
Before you progress on your first playthrough you have a choice with your difficulty. You can either start out on hard but I recommend starting on normal so you can get used to the controls and solve all the riddles.
  • Complete the game earning easy and normal (Hard) achievements
  • Solve all the riddles
  • Earn all weapon upgrades
  • Earn all misc weapon/fighting achievements
  • Complete the challenges (on going)
Playthrough 2:
Alternatively if you decided to play the game on hard the first time you will just need to play through and work towards the achievements which you may have missed.
  • Complete the game on hard
  • Finish off other achievements you may have missed the first time
Upgrades:
As you start to earn XP from solving the riddles and beating your foe you will be prompted to upgrade your weapons, armor and physical combos. Make sure you upgrade fairly and don't lump all your upgrades on one section of the catalog. Depending on how you play will result in what you upgrade first but unlocking the remote controlled batarang early will save you a lot of hassle while fighting certain enemies.

Challenges:
Once you start progressing through the game you will want to start doing the challenges either along side or after you finish the game. As you progress you will get better at the controls and build your upgrades, the more you upgrade the better your combos will become. It may take a while to beat some of these challenges as their quite tough later on.

If you have decided to jump into the challenges without any upgrades or without playing through the main story you may find some of them a little difficult as you wont have the experience to complete the levels.

If your having issues with any of the challenges read through the following guide for pointers and tips to beating each challenge.

Combat Challenge Guide

Conclusion:
Once you master the combos, solves the riddles and get addicted to the challenges you should be well on your way to 1000 in no time. Follow the achievement guide closely to make sure you don't miss any achievements.

Big Bang - 50
Complete story mode on Easy difficulty

This is a story related achievement.

See " Biggest Bang"

Bigger Bang - 50
Complete story mode on Normal difficulty

This is a story related achievement.

See " Biggest Bang"

Biggest Bang - 50
Complete story mode on Hard difficulty

This is a story related achievement.

Like every game the harder difficulty's can cause issues for some players. I suggest you play through the game at least once to learn all the movies and the general dynamics of the game. If you don't feel like running through the game more than once start out on hard.

While playing through make sure you pick up and solve as many of the riddles as possible to help build your XP level. The more you build on your character the easier the game will be in the long run.

Look through the secret achievements for tips on how to deal with the bosses you may be stuck on.

These achievements do stack so playing through on Hard will unlock Easy and Normal.

Party Pooper - 10
Time to break up this party

This achievement is missable.

You can only unlock this later on when you have to deal with The Joker. You will be summoned to The Jokers party, head over to the visitors center and beat up the goons outside. Once you enter the visitor center do not walk through to the next area. Beat all the enemies in this hallway and the achievement will unlock once you kill the last one.

Freeflow Combo 5 - 5
Complete a combo of 5 moves (any play mode)

This will probably be your first achievement in the game, just link together a combo of five hit or more on enemies you first encounter by press in sequence.

See "Freeflow Combo 40"

Freeflow Combo 10 - 5
Complete a combo of 10 moves (any play mode)

See "Freeflow Combo 40"

Freeflow Combo 20 - 10
Complete a combo of 20 moves (any play mode)

See "Freeflow Combo 40"

Freeflow Combo 40 - 10
Complete a combo of 40 moves (any play mode)

This is one of the hardest achievements to complete. You will need to string together a comb of 40 hits without being attacked from your enemies. You may find this a little easier with the weapon upgrades as you can pull off far stronger combos and raise your level faster.

Once you raise your combo level it will turn gold allowing you to pull off stronger hits. You will also be able to take longer breaks between combo attacks on enemies giving you time to think about each move you pull off.

While fighting with the Titans you can build up a high combo level while riding on their backs and hitting over Jokers men. Just take your time and practice.

See "Freeflow Perfection" for combo combination.

Night Glider - 5
Glide continuously for over 100m

There is only one place where you can get high enough to earn this. Climb Arkam Mansion and head toward the clock tower. Once your on the very top platform hold down and run off the platform, keep holding down to glide down towards the door which leads you to Arkam North.

Rope-A-Dope-A-Dope - 10
String up one henchman and drop him to surprise a second (any play mode)

You can only earn this once you buy the skill upgrade ability to perform inverted takedowns (Black title with white eyes). Either enter a challenge or story mode, jump up to a gargoyle and hit to hang upside down. Once an enemy passes bellow you press to drop down and leave them hanging from the gargoyle.

Jump to another gargoyle by hitting the then select and aim your Batarang using the . Aim for the rope holding the enemy and press the to throw the Batarang and cut the rope to drop the enemy in front of the others.

Mano-A-Mano - 10
Take on a beast in hand to hand combat

This achievement is missable within the story.

If you miss this achievement within the story mode you can play challenge mode to take on a Titan in the extreme combat challenges.

This is going to require some patience. Once you first encounter the Titans you need to defeat them using only your fists. If you use the Batarang you will void yourself of earning this achievement.

Once you start fighting the Titans make sure they run into each other and dodge out the way. Once a Titan is worn down enough and holding it's head start attacking. Make sure to evade side swipes, you may need to attempt this more than once. You don't need to kill both Titans just one.

Catch! - 5
Catch a Batarang (any play mode)

Before you can attempt this achievement you need to unlock the Remote Controlled Batarang upgrade. Keep earning XP and you should be prompted to upgrade soon enough. Press the to enter the upgrade menu when prompted and scroll through until you find the upgrade.

Once you have the Batarang head to an open area and throw the Batarang, use the to fly around the open space and back towards Batman.

Freeflow Perfection - 10
Perform a perfect combo including all of Batman's combat moves (any play
mode)

This is one of the harder achievements, this may be easier in the challenge modes where you can practice and take on various amounts of enemies. You may find the visitor center the easiest spot in story mode to earn this as none of the enemies will have weapons before you face The Joker.

Some of these will require you to upgrade Batman's combo skills, earn XP from killing enemies or finding/solving the Riddler challenges.

Basic Combo:
- Strike
- Counter
Tap Twice - Evade
Tap Once - Quick Batarang
Tap Twice - Quick Batclaw

Upgraded Combo:
- Stun
+ - Ground Takedown
+ - Throw
+ - Takedown

Freakshow Rodeo - 10
Ride a beast and unleash its power, knock down 10 thugs (any play)

You may expect this to unlock when you first fight the Titans but you will earn it later in the game. On your patch you will be taken to the underground sewers which you need to escape. Joker will force you to fight a horde of enemies as well as a single Titan. Throw a quick Batarang and dodge out the way until you have worn down the Titan.

Climb on his back by pressing to throw a few punches and then climb on, control the Titan with the + and knock down as many enemies as possible before the Titan throws you off. You should get this once you knock down four or five guys.

Freeflow Bronze - 10
Achieve 8 medals on combat challenges

See "Freeflow Gold"

Freeflow Silver - 25
Achieve 16 medals on combat challenges

See "Freeflow Gold"

Freeflow Gold - 50
Achieve 24 medals on combat challenges

These challenges will be a lot harder for some people seeing as you need to beat the highest scores on each challenge map. Before you can start working your way through the challenges you'll need to collect the riddler trophies to unlock them. See "Crack The E Nigma" for more information.

You need to beat the following scores to earn a gold medal on each map:
  • Intensive Treatment - 18,000
  • Sewer Bat - 18,000
  • Shock and Awe - 30,000
  • Rumble in the Jungle - 30,000

  • Intensive Treatment (Extreme) - 30,000
  • Sewer Bat (Extreme) - 50,000
  • Shock and Awe (Extreme) - 30,000
  • Rumble in the Jungle (Extreme) - 50,000

Predator Bronze - 10
Achieve 8 medals on predator challenges

See "Predator Gold"

Predator Silver - 25
Achieve 16 medals on predator challenges

See "Predator Gold"

Predator Gold - 50
Achieve 24 medals on predator challenges

These challenges are far more straight forward than the combat ones but they will still be a challenge until you find the best way to complete them.

Refer to the following guide for tips on how to beat the criteria.

Predator Challenge Guide

Invisible Predator - 10
Complete one predator challenge by using only Silent Takedowns and without being detected

This is a lot easier than it sounds, pick on of the earn stealth challenges. You will want to take your time don't rush this as you may get caught. Drop down and hold the to sneak up behind enemies. Press to perform a silent takedown, once you have killed the enemy your after make a quick escape to one of the gargoyles or another section of the map.

Using other weapons or takedown tactics will cause you to miss out on this achievement so make sure you don't use the Batarang, Batclaw or glide takedowns.

Flawless Freeflow Fighter - 10
Complete one combat challenge without taking damage

This will either come with practice or patience. Play through the first challenge map "Intensive Treatment" there are less enemies and they won't be armed with any weapons. keep your distance and use some of the tips provided in the videos for "Freeflow Gold", they may be for the extreme maps but they will give you some guidance on techniques for taking down enemies quickly.

Make good use of your Batclaw and Batarang, keep evading and watch out for enemies which may attack you from behind.

Crack The E Nigma - 20
Solve every riddle on the island

Once you solve every Riddler challenge you will be rewarded with this achievement. This may seem quite tedious to start with as there are 240 challenges through Arkham Island but it doesn't take that long to complete. You won't be able to collect every single item from the start of the game, you will need to acquire upgrades for your weapons such as:
  • Answer the riddles
  • Destroy the chattering teeth
  • Find all the stone plaques
  • Collect every audio interview
  • Find all question marks
  • Collect all the Riddler trophies
You will need the following upgrades to access all the challenge items:
  • Explosive Gel
  • Batclaw
  • Thee Shot Batclaw
  • Cryptographic Sequencer (Distence Upgrade)
  • Zipline
You won't start out with these items as you acquire them while progressing through the games story mode. Before you panic about missing any of these collectibles you can go back in a free roam style to collect all the challenge items at the end of the game. Just continue from the main menu.

While playing through the story you will find maps which indicate where all the Riddlers challenge items are located. Make sure you pick up all these maps when you see them to save any hassle finding each item. There not hidden away but they will be on your patch or in plain view.

If you are stuck on any of the Riddler's questions use the following site:

Riddler's Challenge Guide

Arkham Analyst - 20
Solve 5% of Riddler challenges

As you start out you will find yourself picking up trophies and audio recordings while solving the riddles. This achievement unlocks fairly soon as it doesn't require you to collect many of these riddles. You will unlock most of the achievements towards "Crack The E Nigma" without really trying as you will want to pick these items up to build XP.

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Cryptic Investigator - 20
Solve 10% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Lateral Thinker - 20
Solve 25% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Mystery Solver - 20
Solve 40% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Conundrum Cracker - 20
Solve 55% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Mental Athlete - 20
Solve 70% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

Riddle Resolver - 20
Solve 85% of Riddler challenges

See " Crack The E Nigma"

World's Greatest Detective - 20
Solve Arkham's biggest mystery

You find Chronicles of information documenting the villain's from previous crimes around Arkham Island. they are located everywhere but they are fairly easy to solve. The following guides will help you find any articles you may be missing:

Arkham East
Arkham West
Arkham North
Arkham Mansion
Botanical Gardens
Caves
Intensive Treatment
Medical Facility
Penitentiary

Once you have collected everything and all the stones you will hear from the Riddler one last time. Once he has finished talking head to the Penitentiary and go to the security booth. Head up into the booth and scan the big circle on the floor, the achievement will unlock once you collect this last article.

If your having trouble finding the security booth its in the same room with Clayface and the mysterious man with one arm.

Perfect Knight - 75
100% Complete

This will be your last achievement and most likely your most annoying. You need to fill a list of requirements before the achievement will unlock. You will need to complete the following criteria before this achievement will unlock:
  • Unlock all 20 upgrades
  • Solve the 240 riddles
  • Earn a gold medal on all challenges

It seems to me your description for 'Worlds greatest detective' isn't complete.

Following Riddler's maps and getting ALL 240 puzzles, that still leaves 1 chronicle missing that is not highlighted on the map. There's 24 altogether and you only get 23 form the Riddler challenges . You need that 24th for the achievement.

If its in that list of each area you've provided, then that's great, but you need to highlight which one is the one NOT shown on the maps.

I'm not sure what your on about, there is an explanation on how to get the 24th plaque. I did make some quick alterations once this guide was added a while ago but long enough ago for that information to not have cached.

Either way it's there, try refreshing the page if it's not.

Thanks, I've been stuck on the Combat challenges for a while now, it's one of the few things stopping me from 100%, but these videos should help.

Awesome, awesome guide.

Only thing is, for the Party Pooper achievement, it is not really necessary to KO the goons outside, only the ones inside. Like i said, its not a big deal, i mean, its only like 3 or 4 guys, but, just saying.

There not a requirement but you may as well kill them for the XP.

Can the mano to mano achievement be done later in the game or does it have to be during the first titan boss fight? I thought there were gonna be more of these things so I didn't get it during the boss fight.

It doesn't matter where you do it but your first encounter is much easier than later in the game.

Good guide mate! Just curious to why the rodeo achievement didnt pop up. I had jumped onto a titans back when you have to fight two of them. Should it pop up here or does it pop up when you fight one and the guards around it?

all i need to finish off the riddler challenges are the last 2 teeth in Arkham West, by the Penitentiary and the Hospital. I can't find them for the life of me. Am I going to have to get all 240 again when I play through on hard, or could someone give me a location of all 10 teeth on that section of the island? It would help out alot. Thanks in advance.

Basically as the achievement says, you can't earn it when you first encounter two of them for the first time.

You will come to an area with one Titan and horde of enemies later on.

Hey fizz, this guide is loooking siiick !!

one question before i start the game, can I just play though the game on normal just as a casual playthrough getting as much collectible as possible , and then go back and get all of riddler challanges and then finish hard - or does it not work like that? or is this a bad idea ?

you can pick up all the collectibles you can, then go back and continue with the island empty to finish off the collectibles.

Then play hard, the collectibles don't carry over to a new save.

They have to be done in a single combo. It takes some practice, i haven't yet managed to do it.

Good guide Fizz but I think in the challenge section you should use all 8 videos for both, not just the extremes. People will have troubles a different places. Also just because they are the same level it doesn't also mean the same tactics

Just wanted to add something...the Mano-A-Mano achievement isn't missable. It can be done in the Rumble in the Jungle combat challenge. You face a titan thug along with a group of regular thugs in round 4. It isn't easy, but that's how I got the achievement after forgetting to do it in the story mode.

EDIT: For that matter, I'm assuming Freakshow Rodeo isn't missable either...since you can easily jump on the titan's back and knock down 10 thugs in the combat challenge. I can't confirm it though, because I already had the Rodeo achievement unlocked when I played this challenge.

Yes but most people will use a batrang, which therefore makes it misable. It's not the not fighting titans that's the problem it's that people stick with known ways to deafeat things.

Well if you don't take on a Titan hand to hand at any point you will miss both as most people will use the Batarang. Using the Batarang will cause you to miss beating up a Titan with your fists and no weapons and you won't ride it to knock people over if your just jumping around and punching it once in a while.

Not everyone will play the same way you have to pointing out the obvious is what the guide is about. Not pointing it out and people missing it will just say the achievements are glitched when their not. Covering all bases really .

Climb on his back by pressing to throw a few punches and then climb on, control the Titan with the + and knock down as many enemies as possible before the Titan throws you off. You should get this once you knock down four or five guys.
This is slightly wrong. I know this as this is one of those achievements that the description changes after you unlock it.

My description now reads: "Ride Titan henchman and knock down 10 thugs (any play)"

So 10 guys need to be knocked down, I suppose that's why people get confused as to why it doesn't unlock

Yes I know, in order to unlock both achievement in the challenge mode, you'll have to play Rumble in the Jungle twice. Once using only fists, once using the batarang. I'm merely trying to let people know that if they miss these two achievements in the story mode, they don't have to start story mode over again. They can just get it in the challenge mode.

Same reason why the combo achievements aren't missable. If you don't get them in story mode, they can be done in the challenges as well.

Awesome guide

Fantastic guide, well done. The only thing I have to comment about is that I noticed was your mention of the night glider achievement says it's only possible on the top of Arkham Mansion. I managed to get this after exiting the batcave (I'm pretty sure it was the second time) at the point where you have to glide/line gun your way through a series of natural platforms over water. I was able to get the achievement by gliding left of the first tiered and obvious platform and hanging to the right after that and "escaping" with RB when it flashed. When I got back on the original ledge, the achievement unlocked. It's not any easier, but I just thought I'd share.
