Is it possible to cheaply repair loose controller analog sticks?

I'm on my second 360 controller where the analog sticks have gotten loose on me and don't center properly, causing my characters or camera to go off in random directions when I don't want them to. The first time this happened, I just bought a new controller as I thought maybe I got a bad one somehow. But now, it seems like it's just the sticks wearing out over time, and I don't feel like buying new controllers ever 2 years or so if I can find a cheap and easy way to fix the ones I have.

Invest in a security torx-8 screw driver so you can take apart the controller and fix the analog stick. The screw driver is around $2-3, maybe a little more. It'll save you a lot of money. I have 6 controllers and 4 of them are hand me downs from people who have sticky buttons and what not. The screw driver gives me new controllers by taking out the buttons and cleaning them, etc. So, invest.

My problem actually lies with figuring out how I would fix the sticks. I've seen a few guides on how to replace the little meta pole with a toothpick, or how to chance the stick itself. But none on how to actually tighten the stick in any way, if that's possible.

Good to know what size screwdriver to get if I figure the rest out. Thanks.

You'll probably see the issue once you open the controller. You might not have to do much at all to tighten up the stick.

I'm not so sure about that. I've never cracked open one before, and I have no idea what I'd be looking for. And I don't want to risk breaking a controller either: they still work, they're just annoying as hell sometimes.

To fix the sticks, you would have to take off 4 solderings holding the analog stick in place, I tried to do it with mine and failed.

Meep. I was afraid it'd be something tricky like that.

Sorry for the double post, but I have an update.

Got one of my controllers apart. I don't see any obvious way to tighten them up. The part you use with your thumbs are sitting snugly on the rest of the joystick unit, and I don't see any screws or anything I can tighten. I also don't see any way to replace the entire thing even if I wanted to.

I need to do this also, one of mine the analogs are off center, the other one the RB is messed up and sticks or doesn't work at all, and my 3rd one the B button sticks and the LB is screwed up. I was thinking about just buying another one too, but I'll try this first.
