100% Completion Requirements

This guide so be used for basic reference. The requirements are simple enough, and the game tells you everything you need to know. If you get stuck then this through should aid you with whatever information you require. This guide is to be used in conjunction with the Achievement Guide. Not every single thing is explained within this run down, so if you're in need of a full explanation towards certain achievements please use the guide.

This guide also contains tips of how to complete several challenges and over activities you may need to complete.

Bounty Locations (20)

You will find bounty posters in the following locations. The posters may not always be posted when you go to each locations. When you arrive at one of these towns hang around for a little while until the skull marker appears on your map. I have found most posters will be posted early in the morning. It seems your outfit will also affect these posters. Always wear your bounty hunter outfit while completing these missions so they show up in each location.

From my experience with these bounties, you don't need to find the posters in each town. Most if not all will show up in one location in the following areas. This may not always happen but if there is a bounty to be completed in "New Austin" then it will be posted in the nearest location to you.

You only need to kill 20 off the following bounties. 8 in New Austin, 8 in Mexico and 4 in The North. Below is the full list of bounties as they run with different gangs.

Map Locations (94)

Once you have access to these locations, you can either buy maps to uncover the area. Or you can wander around each section and discover all the interesting places Red Dead Redemption has to offer.

You will be able to buy territory maps from the general stores in each new location you enter. Not all general stores carry these items so be sure to check each one.

Note: You can buy a map of each territory to unlock all the achievement attached to this activity. Buying the maps doesn't always unlock the achievement, but each territory map can be found in a general story within that general area.

Rare Weapons (5)

The five rare weapons can be found, but you must buy them for the achievement. There are only two blacksmith locations through the whole map that sell these guns.

Player Houses (13)

There are 13 properties you need to obtain through the whole of the map. Some are small cots where as others are houses. You may be rewarded with some but others you will have to buy. They don't cost a fortune but you will need at least $2,000 to own them all.

  • Macfarlanes' Ranch
  • Armadillo
  • Thieves' Landing
  • Rathskeller Fort
  • Irish's Shack
  • Escalera
  • Chuparosa

  • El Matadero
  • Blackwater
  • Manzanita Post
  • Beechers Hope

Gang Hideouts (7)

You will enter and complete gang hideouts as part of the story progression, but these missions do not count towards this list. You are required to complete certain story missions before you can compete the hideout a second time with a secondary objective. When you go to the hideouts after completing these requirements there will be a marker on the map or a new objective. Either complete the objective or kill the criminals.

  • Tumbleweed
  • Gaptooth Breach

Mini Games (6)

These mini games aren't impossible, though they may take some people several attempts to complete them. Follow the in game tutorials and play a few games of each to get the hang of the game.

With several of these mini games, playing them at night will reduce the amount of players you go up against. If you're struggling to knock other players out of your game, try coming back later on at night.

  • Five Finger Fillet
  • Arm Wrestling
  • Poker
  • Horseshoes
  • Liars Dice
  • Blackjack

Challenges (8)

There are only four main challenge categories, but there are two ranks per category, which count up to eight in total. Once you complete the first five challenges you will be rewarded with the Master Rank. As you proceed on through the challenges you will then earn a Legendary Rank at level 10.

Sharpshooter:

Rank 1: Shoot and kill 5 flying wild birds

Location: You will find birds pretty much everywhere in the world. You shouldn’t have any issues finding and killing them.

Rank 2: Shoot and kill 5 rabbits

Location: Rabbits are common in the world, especially in Tall Trees. They can be a bit hard to see in the brush, so look carefully for them.

Rank 3: Kill 5 coyotes before they damage you

Location: You will find coyotes in desert regions, mostly in packs of 4-5. Use dead eye to take them down in one go. You don't need to kill them all at once, just 5 different coyotes.

Rank 4: Kill 5 flying birds while on a moving train

Location: Blue or Red train makers on the map. Once you're on one of the trains you can climb to the roof, just sit up here until you see a bird. Kill five bird while the train is moving.

Rank 5: Kill any 2 wildlife within a single dead eye

Location: Look for packs of animals or areas where you may find a bird, deer or small animal. North of Armadillo has plenty of wildlife to shoot at.

Hint: This is easiest on animals that roam in groups, like coyotes, wolves, and birds.

Rank 6: Shoot the hats off 2 different people's heads

Locations: Armadillo or Mexico

Hint: Try to find people with cowboy hats, top hat, or sombreros as they are easier to shoot off. Aim for the brim and it will pop off. If you kill the person you shoot at you won't be rewarded for shooting of their hat. You don't need to shoot two hats at once, but use your dead eye as this will be nearly impossible without it.

Rank 7: Kill 3 bears with a single head shot each

Location: The North, Tall Trees.

Hint: If you have completed Rank 5 of Master Hunter you will be able to buy the Buffalo Rifle. This will deal a direct kill shot to any bear. If you don't have this rilfe you can also use a shotgun which is far more challenging. Ride up near a bear so it's within a few feet, use dead eye and lock onto it's head with a single shot. If you're close enough the bear will go down within a single shot.

Rank 8: Shoot the hats off two people's heads and disarm 2 people

Location: Armadilo or Mexico

Hint: This is much like Rank 6 but this time you will need to shoot two hats and shoot two other people's hands to disarm them. Use dead eye to pick off the two hats, then concentrate on aiming for two other peoples hands while they are shooting at you. These don't need to be completed in a single dead eye shot so you can do this over multiple times. Just make sure you don't kill the people you're attacking.

Rank 9: Kill any 6 wild animals without reloading or changing weapon

Location: Any gang hideout

Hint: After you complete a hideout you will notice a flock of vultures flying overhead. Pick a gun which has a large chamber and doesn't require reloading after a few shots. Lock onto as many birds as possible with your dead eye and start shooting.

Rank 10: Disarm any 6 enemies without reloading or changing weapon

Location: Anywhere with more than 6 people

Hint: You don't need to disarm 6 people in one go. You just need to disarm 6 people without reloading in general. I suggest you find somewhere with lots of people and use the Heavy Repeater. You will then have about 20 shots that you can waste without reloading. Use dead eye to slow down time but don't lock onto your enemies. Aim for their hand and fire. If you lock on you will reload after every dead eye sequence.

Treasure Hunter:

Before you can make yourself rich with gold bars you will need to find a random stranger and complete his ambient free roam challenge. Once you have this first part of the map you an then proceed to find the other maps and locations scattered around.

Ambient Challenge

Rewarded for completing a ambient challenge. This challenge is random so make sure you look for a stranger at a campsite. After completing his challenge you will be rewarded with the first map.

Rank 1: Hanging Rock

Location: Look between the large rocks. As you enter the rock formation you should see a small bush with another small pile of rocks behind. Interact with the rocks to find the first chest.

Rank 2: Del Lobo Rock

Location: Head past the campsite at the bottom of the rock. Follow the path up to the top where you will find a smaller campsite. Walk past the smaller campsite and slowly make your way down the path behind the large rock on the left. You will need to look carefully for a small pile of rocks on a worn path below on the cliff face.

Rank 3: Tumbleweed

Enter Tumbleweed and head straight to the mansion on the hill. Find the entrance to the basement and look for a cattle skull on a wooden poll. The chest is buried just below the skull.

Rank 4: Rio Del Toro

Just north of Chuparosa you will find a long wall near a pathway closest to the San Luis river. Look carefully around this area to find the next chest hidden near the wall.

Rank 5: Crooked Toes

If you head out of Escalera along the path closest to the river towards Chuparosa. On your left hand side you should see a rather odd rock formation next Punta Orgullo. Climb to the top of this formation to discover the chest hidden away at the top.

Rank 6: Ojo Del Diablo

You will be looking for a small campsite just under this large arch. If you are entering this area from Chuparosa it will be on your right hand side. Climb up to the campsite and look around for a small pile of rocks.

Rank 7: Roca De Madera

Climb to the top of the canyon. You should find a rather strange but unique rock formation in this location. If you stand next to this rock and look towards the canyon with the river on your right, you should see a path that follows the cliff edge around. Follow this path to the next chest.

Rank 8: Beechers Hope

Head to the tree on the hill just next to Beechers Hope. Just next to the tree you will find a broken wall with a buried chest between the gaps.

Rank 9: Nekoti Rock

This final chest is located in the cave on top of Nekoti Rock.

Master Hunter:

To start the master hunter you will need to kill a Coyote. They are fairly common so you shouldn't have any issue finding one.

Rank 1: Kill and collect 5 coyote pelts.

Location: You will find Coyotes all over the map. You will always see other riders shooting at them, or hear their howls. Don't confuse Coyotes with Wolfs, Coyotes are much smaller and have darker coats.

Rank 2: Kill and collect 5 deer pelts.

Location: Deers are mostly common in the hills but you will find them all around New Austin.

Rank 3: Kill 5 wolfs with your melee knife and collect 5 pelts. will always

Location: Wolfs can be found all throughout the mountains around the map. They will always attack you unlike coyotes. You will encounter Wolfs on a regular basis through Tall Trees.

Hint: You can also use bait to attack wolf packs, you won't have to worry about being killed as Wolfs are fairly weak and require little damage to kill.

Rank 4: Collect 5 boar and 3 armadillo carapaces in addition to the ones you already

have.

Locations: Armadillos can be found all over the desert in Mexico and through New Austin. Boars will only show up in The North and around the river separating The North and New Austin.

Rank 5: Kill 2 cougars with your melee knife and collect 2 pelts.

Location: You will find Cougars on a regular basis through the Rio Bravo.

Hints: Cougars will always attack from behind while riding your horse. Stock up on medicine before you attack a Cougar. While looking for Cougars wander around For Mercer slowly and pay close attention to the ground. If you can see a brownish coloured rock, it's mostly likely a Cougar. If you can sneak up on one you will be able to kill it with the knife before it has time to attack.

This will require some patience as you won't encounter Cougars as often as most other animals.

Rank 6: Collected 5 raccoon pelts, 5 skunk pelts and 5 fox pelts in addition to the ones you already have.

Location: You will find plenty of Raccoons and Skunks just north of Armadillo, Fox's can be found in the south of Armadillo in the hills.

Rank 7: Collect 5 elk meat and 5 bighorn skins in addition to the ones you already have.

Location: Elk and Bighorns can be found all through Tall Trees. If you roam this area but don't find either of these animals come back on another day.

Rank 8: Kill a bear with your melee knife and collect it's pelt.

Hint: Killing a bear with a knife won't be an easy feat. The best way is to weaken the bear by shooting it in the legs several times, then chase it down and start attacking it with the knife. I suggest you stock up on medicine as you can only take two hits from a bear before it kills you. Once you have shot the bear it will run away, if you don't follow the bear will vanish and you will have to start over.

While you're close to the bear you can dodge using the :xbut: to avoid it's attacks. When you're taking on a bear make sure there are no other bears in the same location.

Rank 9: Kill Khan the jaguar and collect his pelt.

Requirement: Khan will only show once you have completed the previous ranks. To make him show you will need to head to the south of Mexico and wait for him to appear.

Rank 10: Kill Lobo the wolf, Gordo the board and Brumas the bear and collect their pelts.

Requirements: After killing Khan the next three animals will show up in the areas marked on the map below. You can only do them in order of the numbers so don't run off to kill Brumas before Lobo. Once you enter these areas the rare animal of choice will show up after a short period of time. If the animal doesn't show, come back another day and try again.

Survivalist:

To start the survivalist challenges you will need to find a pick and Wild Feverfew. They are a white poppy looking flower most commonly found in New Austin around Macfarlanes Ranch and Armadillo.

This isn't difficult, but more time consuming. Finding all the various flower types will waste a lot of your time. You can use the map below to find all the locations. Just be sure to take your time and pay attention to your mini map. It will show you when a flower is close by.

Rank 1: Collect 6 Wild Feverfew

Rank 2: Collect 6 Desert Sage

Rank 3: Collect 4 Red Sage

Rank 4: Collect 8 Prickly Pears

Rank 5: Collect 7 Woolly Blue

Rank 6: Collect 8 Butterfly Weeds

Rank 7: Collect 10 Hummingbird Sage

Rank 8: Collect 12 Prairie Poppies

Rank 9: Collect 15 Golden Currants

Rank 10: Collect 10 Violet Snowdrops, 2 Prickly Pears, 2 Desert Sage, 2 Butterfly Weed, 2 Prairie Poppy, 2 Golden Currant, 2 Woolly Blue, 2 Hummingbird Sage, 2 red Sage, 2 Wild Feverfew.

On the job locations, do you have to do them until the icon no longer appears or just once each?

Also, on the minigames, what constitues a completion on those. I assume liars Dice you have to win. Poker you have to eliminate everyone else. What about five finger fillet and blackjack? Also, do you have to do this at each location or just one?

Thanks for the guide man.

This is great! I was thinking of making a 100% Completion guide myself, as I feel it is important in a game like this. But, this covers everything, very in-depth.

I skimmed through it and the only thing I would add right now that a Survivalist Map really really helps out for the flower challenges, and they are cheap. I can get 2-4 ranks done per map. They're worth it.

You mean like this one :p http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/guides/961-flow.jpg, which is up there. It's just called flower location map instead of survivalist map.

EDIT

As Fire below pointed out, I misread what you wrote. I don't have the locations for those maps but they can be bought at the general stores. If anyone has the info I'll add it in.

I think they can be bought at any general store. They last ten real-time minutes up until rank 5, rank 6 and beyond they last for 20 minutes. When activated, you can see the locations within a couple hundred feet. So, you could be standing there and your mini-map might show 2-8 flowers in your area, rather than being within about 6 feet of them. Also, you can pause, and even save. For example, I activated a map, used up 14 minutes of it, saved, played the next day and when I started I had 6 mins. left. You can hold multiples I believe, but each store only has one in stock at a time. I used fast travel and the like and got them done using 3-4 maps. You don't have to mention most of this in the guide, just explaining it for those who don't know.

The Brady Games guide has a location map, but you have to be pretty precise, and some of the locations are wrong (overall though the map in the guide is decent). The survivalist map makes it really easy.
