I am working through my first playthrough on Apoc and find it relatively easy. The game is pretty lenient by restoring you to a checkpoint close by without losing what you accomplished and refilling your life/wrath to full.

The key to this game is patience. Each enemy/boss telegraphs their moves for you pretty well. On Apoch its not stand and smash, its about keeping distance, getting 1 or 2 hits in and moving away. The scythe helps as it gives you the ability to stay back a bit and, once you get the dash move for it, you get a good multi-hit charge forward attack (powerful) that you can hit with then dash out. Most battles then just become monotonous because its a rinse and repeat of that formula.

what difficulty did you start on? i like to start on the hardest difficulty so theres no gap between you destroying everything you pass and the opposite where every small enemy can kill you in 5 hits. i think apoc was more then easy in fact im gonna go ahead and say it was 1 of the easiet hardest difficulty games i ever played.

Agreed with most of the above. I'm not one to rag on people for complaining, many complaints are legit, but you gotta be an impatient button-smasher if you "die at every fight". In fact, I found it truly fun and challenging; it required attentive reactions and varied responses. My stats said I died about 80 times, which sounds appropriate for a game I got 20+ hours out of.

had this game for a while - never had a chance to play it (too much time on blk ops)! reading through most the posts now - im eager to give it a go, my question is if i start on easy - can i switch to the hardest setting (similar to oblivion for those familiar) or will it make me start a fresh save on the new selected difficulty?

I like this style of game and would like to 1000g it =). Im sure i can do the missable achieve's on a second playthrough without having to go too far into the game? Esp - if things like the armour etc carry across upon completion of the game. If im wrong please let me know before i start wasting my time!

No, you must start a fresh new playthrough on the selected difficulty. Sadly, there is no way of changing the difficulty in-game.

Anyways, I'm about halfway through the game on Apocalyptic and it's not too bad (without Abyssal armor). All you have to do is learn the techniques and movement of such enemies and dash away/block whenever necessary.

Damn, I'm in a similar position. Had the Game since its Release, just haven't had the time to play it.

I started it on Apocalyptic the Day I Got it, so its been over a year ago, and just wanted to throw it in and finish it Quickly and Painlessly to get it off my list of games that I need to finish.

I think I got to Tiamat, or at least to the point where your working towards Tiamat. So the Question is, Should I restart on Normal, or just continue on Apocalyptic?

Continue on Apocalyptic, the game really isn't as hard as people think.

I actually played the game on Normal the first time through. I wasn't sure how I would fare in this game since I haven't really played any others similar to it recently. I got through normal difficulty and only died about 5 times. Usually from me doing stupid stuff.

I did finish the armor suit so now that I'm on apoc difficulty I have the armor already. I can say however that this difficulty is exceedingly easy. I have gone through the entire play so far using only the scythe after I got it. I just killed Griever and I haven't died a single time. I honestly don't think I would really have any problems with this difficulty without the armor. One thing I suggest is making sure that you follow a guide to get all the life fragments so that you have as much HP's as you can at any given point.

If you are starting on apoc difficulty and you aren't familiar with these types of games then yeah... Don't expect to just waltz through the game. It takes some time to learn the moves and how the monsters attack.

My first play through took 19 hours and 54 minutes. I like to explore everything. On my Apoc setting I am currently at 4 hours and have already collected 2 hearts. I'm not really going for a speed run. I'm doing everything from memory. It's just far more simple this time around because I know how to kill everything.

So if you are having problems with Apoc... stop trying to strong arm the game and just drop to the lower difficulty or stop whining about it being hard.

The last achievement I needed was beating it on Apoc, and I did so in under 10 hours with the Abysall armor.

I am now at the end of my Apoc play through. I only have the final boss left to kill and I have only died 4 times. Two of those times were from a bug with one of the guardians in the black throne which really sucked. One other time I feel off a ledge that apparently instantly kills you because I had full life but still had to restart from a checkpoint. Oh well.

Needless to say, it's not overly difficult.

i'm playing thru apoc now, with the abyssal armor, and it's a total cakewalk. finding it far easier than normal. i'm up to iron canopy now, and haven't died once. playing thru on normal i'd died a dozen times already at this point.

I just beat the game on Apocalyptic difficulty without the Abyssal Armor. After beating Ninja Gaiden 2 on Warrior difficulty I didn't find DS that hard. It's challenging but all you really need to do is to master dodging. Most of the harder hitting bigger enemies usually have slower attacks, you also need to learn when to dodge sideways or dash backwards depending on if the enemy is swinging horizontally or vertically.

Fun game though, I'm glad I beat it on Apoc diff. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I played on normal mode and plowed through everything or if I had gotten the Abyssal armor.

PS. Last boss is a major pushover, beat him in one go.

The reason I would say that apoc is easy is when comparing it to other action games with a "very hard" type of difficulty. Usually that increase in difficulty isnt the only thing attached to the playthrough, often you see fewer checkpoints that are further apart, and typically you respawn at the checkpoint with a limited health/power bar which can be especially punishing with increased damage output usually from enemies. Apoc difficulty isn't a pushover but for players that are familiar with truly brutal difficulties in other action style games will find that DS is much more on the forgiving side of that scale. Not saying that just anyone will be able to pick it up and finish it on the first try without some difficulty but when players are more familiar with titles like "Ninja Gaiden" that are very punishing this will almost seem like a walk in the park. With all action games your main ally will typically be things like block, counter, dodge, dash and evade maneuvers doing damage when and where you can then backing off to avoid taking damage yourself.

I'm not a big fan of hack and slash games because I kind of suck at them, but I'm not finding this one too hard on Apoc. I'm at the Griever, and so far the hardest fight for me has been the fights immediately after obtaining the Tremor Gauntlet (I keep wanting to call it the Infinity Gauntlet...). That fight was annoying until I figured out what to really do. Like the difficulty, though, as it's not cake, but not super hard, either.

The Abyssal Armor suggestion is worthless, you don't unlock it until basically the end of the game. You gotta do a scavenger hunt task and then go kill the final boss.

I didn't find Apocalyptic difficulty to be that difficult. Not that it's easy either, some fights are very challenging but you loose nothing for dieing so who cares. I used the RB dash a lot and there were certainly some enemies I avoided like those blue ghost ladies with the swords, they kick my ass even with the Abyssal armor. I utilized the Stone Skin power a lot, prioritize leveling it to max. Also use weapon damage boosting upgrades. If you're going into a big fight, the undying 'potion' was worth having because when you take a death blow, all your health restores. Then later also have a few Chaos potions so if you need your chaos form to get out of a jam but haven't built it up, this potion can save your butt.

I started out in Apocalypse difficulty and didnt have much trouble getting through it. Only 2 spots were a real pain to get past for me. I will have to make a second run though to get the angelic beast achievement though.

Just do the first walkthrough on Normal and get all the life shards/wrath shards and the abyssal armor set with the collectable guide. this will also let you get a feel for the game. no one should straight up apacalyptic without thinking about it

I agree man, it is ridiculous...I got through that part by just avoiding those big fuckers as much as I can cause after all I don't think you need to kill them. I don't even want to see the boss battle between Abaddon & War...that shit is probably ridiculous.

Right now I'm at the part where you go get Tiamat's Heart...and you have to fight that big dude on the highway....Talk about a pain in the ass.

one of the easiest fighting games i have ever played, apoc was like playing ninja gaiden 2 on easy, having said that the guy on the highway took me a couple of tries, game was a cakewalk after that, maybe the tc just sucks at fighting games, no offense

So, let me get this stray. Once you complete the game Normal, you pick new game on Apocalyptic and the armor is available from the start? Is that for all your stuff, unlocked moves, powers, life stones, etc or just he armor?

Thatīs my question, what exactly does the game import to your new game if you had finish it at least one?

You will keep your Apocalyptic Armor if you had it in your previous playthrough on Normal. Nothing else transfers over.

Damn, I had to spend again all those souls to acquire all again? And go chest hunting again for life and wrath cores? Thatīs not fun at all.

Story related items I get it, but the rest I tough will be more like Conan or Okami or thousand other games, experience and the alikes being imported. Now I feel stupid for having start on Apoc., although normal has giving me troubles sometimes but manage to die just 2 times so far in the game.

Anyway, thanks for respond.

I'm thinking of playing this game again on apocalyptic, but threads like these makes me second guess my intention... Played it on normal over a year ago and remember it had big boss fights, some of which were quite challenging, but nothing too hard. Well I can always change the difficulty and collect other achievements.

Well in my opinion this game has become one of my favorite ones... but it is true... apocalyptic difficulty was more like laffable diffculty, they only add more life points to the enemies.. there was no enhanced AI no stronger guys no nothing! that was the only aspect that dissapointed me of this game, so i really hope they make the 2nd one really apocalyptic hard

I started on Apocalyptic difficulty, and while it was pretty hard at some points, it wasn't impossible. I've played way worse. I learned to use my wrath power more often, and to dodge constantly. And to save the demon-form thingy for the bigger baddies.

I didn't think apoc was too bad until I got to collecting the last sword in the cathedral. There is an armor guy with a few minions, then the acid guy w/minions - but then 2 more armored guys and I am completely stuck.

I wanted to go back and farm more kills, but you can't even go back to before you get dropped at the entrance.

So frustrated at this point. Debating starting over on normal or just sending it back.

ive had my fair share of problems with different games when all my mates just flew through them,so i know what its like, that being said i just went through apoc diff in one night, less than 10hrs actually and i wasnt running through it,i was spending time levelling the scythe up and collecting most (not all) of the artifacts to get my health up as there was a couple of bosses that caused me problems on normal,so wanted to make sure.

only times i died was because of my mistakes due to being tired lol,i never once got killed by any enemy though,i actually thought apoc was miles easier than normal is,i even had to check my save a few times to make sure it was apocalyptic because i was flying through it so easily.

for me the scythe was my best friend didnt use anything else unless it required it ie: the crystals and using the gauntlets.

this is not a hard game especially when you have the abyssal armour and the harvester scythe nothing can kill you, with the scythe dont forget the holding down the Y move especially when they surround you and it even stumbles the big guys giving you enough time to dodge and get into a better position.

I've almost completed this game on Apocolyptic (first and only play through) and I really enjoy the challenge, sure there's been some frustrating points but I've made it past everything and I personally find it refreshing to play a game that can actually challenge me... as much as its fun to beat a game quick sometimes it feels like a lot of recent games aren't very challenging and that gets boring to me..
