"Gold Ballistar"

I'm wondering who has gotten this achievement, and about how long it took for anyone to get it.

You know, how often you did Ballista, what it took to rank up towards the title, etc.

It sounds like one of the hardest ones to get! :x

EDIT: Got it. Here's how: (Thanks to tips from The Bizomb and Arenegeth)

Ballista Point Rankings are how you earn the title. Being the top ranked in a zone across all jobs for the past 10 matches (the last 60 earth hours, more or less). They do not hold rankings past the 10th match. Since hardly anyone does Ballista anymore, that should be pretty easy.

Ballista matches require at least 6 players to be registered in order to consider a match viable. Any less, and they cancel the match. However, while you need 6 registered players to get a match to start, you do not need 6 players there for the match to begin. A good way to get this achievement is to go to a zone that has no rankings (by checking with a Marshal either in Ru'Lude Gardens or near where the Herald would pop in the specific Ballista area), get 6 people (including yourself) to register, then have a friend on a less defensive job (like White Mage) without any equipment on stay there while you /quarry for petras, then kill him to gain gate breach status and score said petras.

My Ballista match was in Jugner, Lv60 cap. I was WAR, my friend was BLM. Petras were simple enough to get at first, but I saw a significant decrease in petras when I used /quarry as my score went up. I generally went with the rule 'get 5 petras (the max you can hold), kill for gate breach status.' That worked pretty well until I got to about 45 points, then it seemed as if I just couldn't get that 4th petra, so I decided to kill for gate breach status, then /quarry for as many petras as I could before the gate breach status was taken from me (3 minutes).

By the end of the match, I had 57 petras scored. After the evaluation, I had accumulated 251 Ballista points, which not only was the score for my Ballista ranking, but was also the amount of Ballista Points I earned towards my total (Ballista's currency). All in all, it was pretty easy!

This achievement is only hard because almost no one does Ballista anymore, the few people that bother with PvP in this game usually go for private PvP matches.

Having said that, certain servers may still have a somewhat active Ballista community (like Lakshmi) and it may be possible to find matches happening there.

Of course the fact that nobody bothers in doing the classic Ballista across the three zones means that you can easily boost it if you have 5 friends to help you. Though it will take some time to get the necessary ranking.

More information about Ballista and what it takes to get the title/Chevrons/achievement here.

People in-game that may not care about achievements, may not be very willing to help with such an endeavor, since is borderline cheating and rather odd for the usual community spirit (it also has no in-game gain).

You may want to try gathering in one server with other people interested for the achievement.

For the record I don't have the achievement, I wouldn't mind boosting it, but I never actively tried to get people together for it.

Also this achievement is what was previously belived to be the procurement of a Relic Weapon, let me just say that this, is A LOT easier.

As a final note, to actually unlock the achievement you need to have the Chevron key item (stays for a week) in your inventory and not just the title (stays forever) when you talk to the bard.

As a matter of interest, assuming I could find 5 people to help me on this endeavor, what would we do: just go to one of the three zones, sign up for a 3v3 match, and they'd all just let me score the most? Would we have to do this repeatedly for a week? Just curious, as I'd like to do this sometime

There is detailed information on how Ballista works and how to raise your ranking in the link I provided.

But basically yes, you have to join a scheduled Ballista match in either Pashhow Marshlands, Jugner Forest or Meriphataud Mountains, and score the most 'goals' than anyone else in the last 10 matches.

Keep in mind that the ranking, regarding the Gold Scorer is separate for each zone, and the macthes always jump between the three zones in order, with the level cap rising each cycle.

You can find out where and when the next match will take place from the appropriate Ballista NPC's, I think there's one in each of the starting nations as well as the three aforementioned zones.

But most importantly, you have to remember to register your ranking during a registration period after the match ends or it won't even count, after the registartion period is over you can see how you fared and receive your title accordingly.

Of course this got me thinking, that depending on how the ranking system works a single match may be enough to get you the top scorer title and in consequence, achievement.

I don't know exactly what the game considers 'last ten matches', since in the current Ballista state, the last ten matches for each zone were probably canceled for lack of participation.

So in that case if you score let's say 3 'goals' and register it, you would still have the top spot by default.

Of course again not knowing how the game calculates it, it may need to compare you against other players in order to give you the title, or even consider the last macthes that were actually played in it's calculation no matter how long ago.

In any case, if you can get three people (plus two teammates) to sit there and get whacked on the head so you can score, let us know what you found out.

Hello people, i registered here just to tell you (I'm a mod, Tahngarthor, for a major FFXI/FFXIV forum, http://www.ffxiclopedia.com ) You don't need to win matches all week long. You only need to win one match with the highest score to get the chevron and title. Then you can speak to a title bard to unlock the achievement.

It's interesting because this is about the only achievement that could really be considered "multiplayer" as it's the only one where you actually need to compete with anyone to earn it.

I was recently working on getting this achievement, and I found out a way to get it solo successfully! It works like a charm, though you do need at least 3 accounts for it to work, 2 of which that have SMN leveled.

First, here is a bit of interesting info I found while trying to get the achievement legitmately:

1) While you do need 6 people registered for a match before it begins, they do not need to be logged in for the match to start (the match will not be canceled if there are 6 people registered,).

2) The level 30 capped matches are the only matches that allow level 1 players to participate (see where I'm going with this?).

3) To get a ballista license, all that is required is that you have rank 3, and complete the quest to aquire the ballista license, obviously.

4) Getting the gold ballistar title only requires that you rank 1st on the leaderboard, meaning you've aquired the most points out of anyone for the past 10 matches. You'll notice that the leaderboard is completely blank as nobody plays ballista anymore, so only ranking first in just one match does the trick.

Now here is what I did:

Let's say account #1 (which I'll refer to as A#1 from now on) is my main account. I helped A#2, which has 4 level 1 mules get to rank 3. I started them out in Sandoria which is the easiest of the three mission lines. While this is very time consuming, it's really not that hard or as bad as you'd think and I was able to do it in 3 days (having the swift shoes kupower helped immensly with this). The only hurdle was completing mission 2-3 the dragon fight. I got past this by dual boxing A#1 and A#3 using both SMNs and 2 houring the boss a couple times, while A#2 just chilled at the entrance. If you need the strategy, I suggest checking out the ffxiwiki site. Also, since this is main reason why you need a third account, maybe a friend can help you, though you'd need to do it 4 times.

Once the mules achieved rank 3, I completed the ballista quest for all of them, and made their way to the Jugner Forest outpost (if you got all three crag crystals when completing mission 2-3, this will help tremendously). Upon doing so, I brought A#1 and A#3 there also. Last step was simply waiting around for a level 30 capped Jugner foreset match to begin. I'd register my character with A#1 and A#3, and keep them both online. I'd log into A#2 and register all 4 mules for the match. Just register, log out, log in with the next one, repeat. After all 6 members are registered, you no longer need to have A#2 logged in.

When the match begins, you're free to do whatever you'd like! You can score petras, kill the afk character on A#3, whatever will earn you points. When the match is over, immediately head on over to the marshal to register your ballista points. After a short time, you'll find that you have ranked 1st and will be awarded the gold ballistar cheveron. Lastly, head on over to the title bard in whitegate to get your achievement (you only have a week to do this).

I know it's kind of a wacky way of getting it, but I'm sure like yourself, I was unable to find help for years getting this and was desperate. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to reply! Also my mules are still logged out at Jugner Forest, so you're on Bismarck I'll be happy to help you out, just send me a message to my xbox gamertag "The Bizomb".

I really hope this helps somebody trying to get the achievement. For anyone reading my method, I'd like to hear if you were able to do it differently. Thanks for reading ^_^

Though I was ignoring this achievement for the longest of time due to it's nature (plus achievements aren't my primary concern in this game) these news edge me to try it out.

My only problem from what I understand is finding a way to beat the Dragon 5 times (solo) considering I have no second account to help me with it, and leveling a second account from scratch is a bit too time consuming (on top of making a third for the level 1's).

Well I always wanted to solo that Dragon with MNK but never got MNK higher than 15 to this day, maybe is about time to make that notion a reality x5.

In any case just as a clarification, do two registered people need to be online at the same time?

Because the way I look into doing this, is by making a new account, making 5 characters on it, getting them all Rank 3 (by soloing the dragon each time on my main, or alternatively getting outside help) then registering my main on a 30 Ballista match, followed by the 5 characters on the second account in turn, keeping the final one logged in for the match.

When the match started, I did have two accounts logged in but I don't think that really matters. Out of curiosity I logged out of the second account, and it was just me playing in ballista solo for a short time. I logged back in so I can get more points though because I wasn't sure if I could achieve gate breach status or not.

I think just as long as 6 people are registered before the match begins, it doesn't matter if they're logged in or not, even if you'd be the only one in the match. Your method sounds like it'll work.

Anyone on Ragnarok server wanna do this? I will definately be willing to do this.

Just to clarify you only have to complete the first of 3 legs on the ballista match? So even if you don't show at the next two you still win cause you have the highest score?

Jugner and Pashow are just one match that is an hour long. I believe Meriphitaud Mountains is the only area that offers three matches.

This is also the reason why I started the mules out in Sandy, so the trip to Jugner wouldn't be painful.

I finally got this achievement a few days ago, following the method I described in my last post.

I want to thank The Bizomb and anybody else who provided information.

For those who want to try it solo, I think there's enough information in this thread to come up with a similar method that suits your situation. But here's a few tips from my experience.

-If you're not short on Gil (or a cheap-ass like me) considering using silent oils/prism powders while escorting the level 1 characters around, remember the spells sneak/invisible don't work on level 1 character's.

-Picking up the Dem/Mea/Holla Tele Crystals will make your life a lot easier.

-Escort with a job or sub-job that can tele, raise and heal, a main mage job 75+ would be optimal, but /WHM works as well.

-If you're doing the Dragon fight as MNK remember to bring meds and pot's aplenty, a Persikos au Lait helps a lot, I was personally using Tavnazia Tacos as food.

-The Dragon and his Eyeball friend are really pushovers, do not panic if the eye somehow manages to petrify you as you activate your 2 hour, I went 6/6 soloing the fight and once I did it without 2 hour.

-If you are a Taru or a less hardy race (I was Galka) you may want to consider a 10 potions per fight ratio, I went using the average of 6, but that's because I had a lot of Potion+3 and NQ Hi-Pots in stock trying to get rid of them, with Hi-Potions+3 it should be less.

-You do not need to use an Icarus Wing in each fight for an extra damage boost from WS at start, I used one in my first fight, omitted from using it for the rest and hardly noticed a difference.

-My sub-job of choice was /WAR to maximize damage, /NIN is not really useful besides the initial 3 shadows that will go down fast, you do not want to recast during 2 hour, and possible interruptions are not worth it after that, /DNC only gives Drain Samba at that level and your TP is best spend in damage.

-Be patient, with the whole process, it took me a little over a month from the time I made the new account to the time the achievement unlocked. You could do it in a couple of days if you really focus on it, but I wouldn't recommend it. It can get stressful and boring repeating the same missions and escorting the level 1's at the same places x5.

-Make a /quarry and /scout macro ahead of the actual Ballista Match, you will be spamming /quarry a lot to find Petra's, typing it out is too tiresome.

As a final note, do make sure to check the rankings on the Ballista zone of your choice in advance, in the rare case that somebody registered a goal record there, if there's no one registered there should be lines instead of names on the ranking list (ignore the job/race/levels that show up).

Without a free trial anymore, does that mean I need to go buy another copy to have that account w/ the mules I rank up and log/register to Ballista?

I neglected mentioning it in my previous post, but using a Trial Account was never a good idea.

Besides the inherent limitations that come with Trial Accounts, SE's anti-RMT bot was most likely going to auto-ban any suspicious level 1 activity on a Trial Account (not many level 1's with Rank 3).

Personally, I got a digital version of the Ultimate Edition, though you only need the basic game and not a single expansion/add on installed for the steps leading to the achievement.

If you don't want to fork out the money for the Ultimate Edition (which you don't actually need anyway) you can most likely find an older version of the game in a local retailer for a lower price.

And you can use the same CC number for your second account with no problems (though you can easily get the achievement done within the 30 day free trial period).

I'm not sure what you asking.

If you got a retail version of the game, just install it and make a Playonline account when is asks you, you get registration codes with every retail copy.

If you got an old version of the game used (thus most likely no registration codes) I think you can request some new ones from the menu, but don't quote me on that.

In any case, you only need one account since you can make up to 18 characters on each account, and the 30 day free trial is activated for every new account (and includes as many characters as you can make).

To put it simply, just make a new account like the first time you started on your main account.

As a note, you do not need to make a Square Enix account introduced with the Security Token, a plain old Playonline account will do.

A bump, of sorts.

Just got my Gold Ballistar achievement!

Took the advice from The Bizomb and I can confirm that the 6-register-but-only-two-in-match theory works like a charm. Got some friends to come register in a Jugner zone and ended up with 251 points by the end of the match.

It was pretty easy!

Got my achievement, but for some reason the Port Jeuno title bard is broken... I had to go to Lower Jeuno. I've updated OP to elaborate on how I got the achievement.

Chiming back in with another question about this Achievement.

I've got a main account with 4 mules. I also have a second account that has a mule. If I brought all of the characters on both accounts to the Junger Forest sign-up, would I be able to do this, or do I still need 3 accounts for some reason?

All you would need is two accounts minimum if you're going it solo. The need for three accounts was just a suggestion for completing 2-3, since it can be hard to defeat the dragon and ahriman alone.

Edit: Nevermind I read up more on this. Note that fighting the dragon is now UNCAPPED which means you can take your level 75-90 character and solo the crap out of it easily.

Edit #2: I finally got it! Whoohoo! Never thought I would but thanks to this thread I did! I'm just going to briefly repeat some of the stuff here to help people out who may have skipped some important tid bits.

-Remember you can do this all on PS2 or PC if you want, you just have to log onto the Xbox 360 system for the Achievement unlock only.
-First check the rankings at Ru'Lude to make sure no one else has been doing Ballista recently!
-You need 6 people to sign up, but only need 2 people to participate. (Make sure everyone has a B. License ahead of time!)
-Once inside you really only NEED 1 point I suppose if no one else is doing B. since by default 1 point makes you the highest on the server. Stay until the match ends. (Make sure no one else with you out-scores you!)
-Speak the NPC Marshall near by and sign up for "B.P. Rankings" DO NOT STALL (You have roughly 6 real life minutes to do it after the match ends.)
-After signing up, the NPC will ask you to wait 6 real life minutes to speak to him again, go check the scoreboard rankings after 6 minutes, then hit the cancel button after you see yourself at the #1 rank.
-The NPC will then congratulate you and offer you a choice of which key item you want, make sure to pick GOLD CHEVRON KEY ITEM! If not, then you can't get the Achievement I believe.
-Final thing to note, I believe you have 7 real life days once getting key item to unlock the Achievement, make sure your Xbox 360 is not suffering from RROD and that FFXI will work properly (test it out ahead of time to make sure!). This is the only time-limited Achievement for FFXI.

That's about it. If anyone on Quetzalcoatl wants help with this, feel free to contact me, Chocoburger in-game. Good luck and have fun!
