I have been, I don't have the achievement yet but seem to be on/ahead of schedule for day 1 and day 2 - as long as you go end to end and make a few laps at the arena fountain/middle fountain/by yucatan-entrance to underground lots of zombies seem to respawn down at the other end of the map for when you head back. I also don't have the bike magazine, with only a few minor bumps (no major off-the-bike crashes) the slicycle breaks for me at about 1300 kills. It's fantastic for killing at night too, especially if you get the slide turn down. You could also have a friend bring you one bike magazine at the start so you don't have to bother with case files to get your own copy.

-

Someone else also made a good point - if you're decent at getting the required kills per hour you can skip case files and go for the 72k in 72 hours, if you're not so great at it you could just do the case files (killing in the 4x4 or slicycle when not doing the case files) and then forget about the case files in overtime and go for the killing as the zombie density will be awesome in overtime mode, thus it would take longer to get the 72k but you would have an "easier" time getting it.

You could also make a couple of quicksteps when you head into Americana at the beginning to grab the driving book, then drink one head out and down to the arena (assuming you have the bike key from a previous playthrough) and zoom up to the 4x4. And then you'd also have one for if you decided to kill leon and make the slicycle.

Can somebody tell me what time I've got to on the last day before it runs out?

Also, I noticed that if you push up on LS whilst holding down RT to drive, it seem to go faster in the SUV

I noticed the guy who made the video got the achievement at like 66,000 zombies or something. Is it necessary to get all the kills in one play through? Everyone seems obsessed with the time, but even the achievement descriptions don't say it is necessary. And clearly the guy who got it at 66528 zombie kills seems to prove otherwise.

You have to get it in 1 playthrough.

He didn't get it at 66,528 kills. He got it at 72,000 kills (explaination below).

There's actually another one located on top of the stage where the Rock Heroes mission is. Just climb the boxes in the back.

Just came on here to say that actually. I had no idea there was one so close to the bike until a m8 told me earlier when we were doing co-op. I got 3 bike mags from him and I am going to give it a try and see what the bike is like with the chainsaw so close. There is a shotty on one side, the chainsaw is on the other. Up top on the metal reinforcement beam things.

I know I'm going to kick alot of people in the nuts with this, but I'm currently using the Slicecycle in combination with doing the Case Files to reach Overtime. I've tried the SUV method before, and it didn't work for me (probably because I'm a terrible driver, heh).

The Slicecycle is working wonders for me though. Unlike the SUV, you can build up speed really fast, turn sharp angles, kill alot more zombies on contact, and can sweep an area pretty fast (Arena entrance, say). I can also rack up 1,000 more kills with it before it breaks down (I averaged about 2,000 kills with the SUV before it needed replacing).

Currently, it's 9/27, about 5PM and have 46550 kills on the counter. Most time wasted was doing the Case Files for sure, but that's what Overtime is for.

I honestly don't see the point in doing the cases to unlock Overtime. It seems to me that the time lost in having to do the cases is probably the same was what you would gain from OT. Surely it's more logical to just use that time to get kills instead and not bother with OT.

46,550 at 5PM on the 27th is still over 10k/10hrs short of the guide quoted a few posts above and so it clearly isn't faster. I also don't understand how your SUV is breaking down so early.. You are using the driving mag right? breaking down after 2k kills seems kinda early.

Anyway each to his own I guess. Good luck with it.

It's not behind if you're doing the case files as you get the extra time (overtime) to kill zombies, whereas the guideline is killing straight for 72 hours + extra time at the beginning no? It'll break quicker if you ram it, accidentally or not, into objects other than zombies. I've wasted so much time getting the SUV magically stuck on some slow loading texture (even at the slow speed it drives. Though I also ended up inside the underground gates before they loaded on the slicycle so that goes both ways.

And people who are having problems meeting the 1k per in game hour quota would benefit greatly by doing the case file method as in overtime mode the tunnels and the strip are packed with zombies plus if you prefer the slicycle you'll also have the book. I find the slicycle the preferred method because the SUV is slow and manuevering it is a pain with my driving skills, and very boring - I killed straight (with reloading/zoning of course) without the case files and quit at 62k with 6 hours left in game because I would end up at 68k and I'm only able to meet the kill quota with the slicycle but seeing as I don't have the book for it it wastes more time remaking one every 1k-1300 zombies.

Obviously some people can do it not bothering with the case files, those who can't have another option

Well, the game time you spend on the cases is, if you know what you're doing, less than 10 game hours. It may actually be a bit less.

With that expenditure, the game continues with the Facts from 10am on Day 4, to 7am on Day 5, so that's 21 extra hours right there. Obviously, you have to spend another 4-6 game hours doing the Case 7 missions if you're going to unlock overtime.

Overtime starts at 2am on Day 5. That's right, if you finish the Facts after that point, you actually travel back in time. Now, I haven't actually tested how long you have before the game ultimately ends, but the Dead Rising wiki suggest its another 24 hours. I'd guess it may end at midnight, so maybe 22 hours.

So... with 14-16 game hours spent doing all the cases, you unlock 43 hours of extra time. With the densest zombie concentration ever.

I'd call that a safety margin.

I wish I read this part more thoroughly. I went to finish the Facts before that point (like 5:30PM) , while I was 12,000 zombies short for 72,000 kills. So I figured, hell yeah I can get that.

Hell no.

After I went through a slicecycle lifespan, I began to notice the timebar for the Overtime boss' errands was starting to deplete. I knew then I wasn't gonna get there in time. And I was right. Time ended with 2k zombies short. I think I can punch myself in the head now

Fortunatly however, I have a save that goes back to where the snipers just spawned, after Case 5-2, with 51,000-ish kills on the counter. It's going to be a bitch going over the same stuff I just did for 2-3 hours again, but it certainly beats going through the WHOLE thing again. Just got to remember this time not to beat the Facts boss too fast

*Update* The time is now 9PM, counter is at 66,232 kills, and the timebar for the Facts case is still fully white. If I don't get it this time around, I think it's best to play something else. You know, something easy, like Solitaire.

I would just like to say to anyone trying this not to lose hope! I was down by a bucket load of kills on day 2. The fact is my kill rate went from about 800-850ph to 1300-1400ph at the end of day 2, start of day 3. The zombies are more tightly packed with loads more of them. I ended up getting it with about 3 hours spare.

think i'm 1k behind the recommended though, hmm.

Unhappy

Hi, just trying my first attempt at this using the suv. Just saved at 7.10pm day 1 and I have 13,010 so seems entirely doable to me, if the zombie population increases!

I think the key with the SUV is to maintain a good speed, and just cain in round swerving into the clusters as much as possible, I have avoided the arena door area as even though there are plenty of zombies there those barriers things slow you down and ultimately it dont seem time effective!

Wish me luck only another 64 hours 50 mins left

I'm here to confirm that the SUV+Story Progression method works just fine. I managed to achieve it in my first go without any trouble. I even had 11 hours to spare. Here's some screenshots and no these are not to upset you, rather to motivate you:

I'm thinking on writing a guide, considering various people are having problems with it. What do you think? I know we have this guide but who knows.

So your suggestion is to only do the Cases and giving Katey the Zombrex and using all the in between time for SUV driving?

Exactly. But you need to know how much time you really have during the cases. Since, some take you directly to the next. I''m thinking on writing the guide ASAP, just let me know if you are interested and I'll gladly have it made in the next days.

I'm currently at 54090 kills on Day 3 @ 4:49pm. Is it worth still trying for it or should i restart. I have the bike mags so my bike last for a really long time. Actually went from 38000 kills to current number of kills on one bike with the chainsaw.

Bit curious. Has anyone tried taking the slicecycle down into the underground (if you're doing the cases) after the military arrives and doing laps in that? Or has that been proven as ineffective?

I just unlocked my genocide master and i still have an hour before the military arrives. I recommend the suv and i was 2000 kills behind what the guides say you should be at for awhile but once i got a rhythm going i caught up. My advice stick with the suv and just get a good pattern going. I would save and load every 1000 kills or so that way the zombies re spawn quicker, if you have any questions just holla at me

2 questions

1: How many kills should I get before I save and reload?
2: Where should I save, or that stuff?

Fairly ineffective. Apart from the bit where the zombies flock* to the front of the laboratory door during the mission you do down there, the zombie population of the tunnels isn't actually very dense. The Strip is way better by that point in the game.

I'm a lousy driver but I got this first time with the SUV method. I was consistently down by about a thousand kills based on recommended timings since Day 1, 11:00PM, but somehow, the density of the zombies later in the game allowed me to ram 1,200+ kills per hour. At 8:00AM, Day 4, I was 70,844, which left more than enough time to mop up the last kills.

I did no cases, didn't leave the strip at all. I saved and reloaded every 2,500+ kills.
