Achievement Guide and Roadmap

Estimated Difficulty: 4/10
Estimated Time to 1000: 45 - 60 Hours
Number of Play Throughs: 1 - 4 Depending Upon Save Reuse
Missable Achievements: None

Guide Status 100%
(Complete!)

Well howdy partner! Might I say you are looking fit as a fiddle! Now I know you're hankering for some revenge against that slick city fella, and I aim to please. This here guide will help you track him down and then lay down the law. Yee Haw!

Now that we've gotten the obligatory RP point out of the way, this guide aims to help you achieve the daunting task of getting a 1000 in Fallout: New Vegas. Also keep in mind that this is an Achievement Guide for a story based game; as such, there will be spoilers.

The Achievements for this game can be broken down into categories: Story, Quest, Skill, Damage, and Gambling. By far the two categories that will take the longest are Story and Damage, as each will require you to play through the game multiple times. While technically you can get all the damage achievements in one play through and can achieve all the endings by using saves, it is grossly inefficient. I suggest playing through 3 times as then you only have to reload a save once and can achieve all the main damage builds.

Story Achievements

These achievements are a mixed bag of unmissable and mutually exclusive. The game works by having an open path for roughly the first fourth of the game, where the Quests are given freely no matter who you are currently allied with. Then the four plot branches are given to you at roughly the same time, and you must chose one to pursue. As you complete the branch, the other three eventually are locked out; below are the listed lock out points for each faction. Note that you will most likely hit the 'vilified' mark before any of the lock out quests are reached due to the negative influence you get during said quests.

Mr House: Destroy the Fort Securitrons, Complete Wild Card: Side Bets, Become vilified on the strip, or Kill him
NCR: Complete Render Unto Caesar, The House Always Wins III, Wild Card: Side Bets, or Become vilified by the NCR
Legion: Complete For the Republic Part II, The House Always Wins III, Wild Card: Side Bets, or Become vilified by the Legion
Wild Card: Kill Yes Man

Linear Story Achievements

Ain't That a Kick in the Head, 10: Completed Ain't That a Kick in the Head.

You will get this achievement for finishing the character creation at the beginning of the game. Not much more to it.

They Went That-A-Way, 25: Completed They Went That-A-Way.

You will get this achievement after reaching Boulder City and talking to the Great Khans there (after going through Primm, Nipton and Novac first).

Ring-A-Ding-Ding,
25: Completed Ring-A-Ding-Ding.

This Achievement is attained once you obtain possession of the Platinum Chip from Benny or Caesar or talk to Yes Man if Benny escapes. Hint: Make sure you kill Benny either in his room or on the casino floor if you plan on pursuing the Mr. House / Wild Card quest lines. It will make the following quests marginally easier.

Faction Story Achievements

The following achievements are in small groups. You can only get one of the four groups on any given play through, but with careful save use it is possible to get two, three or even all four in 'one' game. Trying to get multiple in one game is mostly inadvisable however as the quest lines split relatively early in the game. You might as well make new characters for the damage achievements to be more efficient. Note: SAVE before you enter the Battle of Hoover Dam on any side. Once you enter the battle, you CANNOT leave and go back into the wasteland!

Mr. House:

The House Always Wins, 30: Complete The House Always Wins.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete 'The House Always Wins VII'. When you first meet Mr. House, agree to help him. Then complete the six parts (two are mutually exclusive) of this massive quest and you'll gain the achievement. See here for a detailed walk through.

All or Nothing, 15: Complete All or Nothing.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete the game by allying with Mr. House at the Battle of Hoover Dam.

NCR

For the Republic, 30: Complete For the Republic.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete 'For the Republic Part 2'. To start this quest line you should get a message from the NCR ambassador on the Strip via courier. Accept his invitation and then simply start doing the quests he gives. Start here for a walkthrough of the first quest (Things That Go Boom), followed by King's Gambit and then For the Republic Part 2.

You'll Know It When It Happens, 20: Complete You'll Know It When It Happens.

This quest is special in that it is given in the NCR, Mr. House, and Wildcard quest lines. Note for the latter two the quest may not appear if you are not on good terms with the NCR. In either case, the main goal is to prevent the three assassination attempts against the President. There is a bomb on the vertibird, a sniper in the tower behind the president, and a fake mechanic with a knife. See a detailed walk through here.

Eureka!, 15: Complete Eureka!.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete the game by allying with the NCR at the Battle of Hoover Dam.

The Legion

Render Unto Caesar, 30: Complete Render Unto Caesar.

At the end of Ring-A-Ding-Ding, a spy will approach you and give you the Mark of Caesar as well as telling you to go to Cottonwood Cove. Go to said Cove and start working for Caesar; this achievement should pop after 'Et Tumor, Brute?' but it is possible to get the achievement without completing the secondary quest.

Arizona Killer, 20: Complete Arizona Killer.

This quest is the inverse to You'll Know It When It Happens; here you have to kill the president. I would suggest simply sniping the President when he lands, but here you can find some more stealthy approaches.

Veni, Vidi, Vici, 15: Complete Veni, Vidi, Vici.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete the game by allying with the Legion at the Battle of Hoover Dam.

Wild Card

Wild Card, 30: Complete Wild Card.

To start the Wildcard path, after confronting Benny go to his room in the Tops. Inside you'll fine Yes Man; simply complete his quests and this achievement will pop at the end of 'Wild Card: Finishing Touch'.

Skill Achievements

New Kid, 10: Reach 10th Level.

This achievement is impossible to miss. You will get it over time either from combat or quest exp rewards.

Up and Comer, 20: Reach 20th Level.

Though possible to miss, it is not likely. If you are having trouble or want a power leveling method, see The Boss.

The Boss, 30: Reach 30th Level.

Getting to level 30 is more a test of patience than anything difficult. Unlike Fallout 3, FO:NV does not fully scale monsters in the wastes to your level. So for example, the area around Goodsprings will always have Geckos and not much else. This means that you are going to either want to farm an easy yet relatively high experience enemy (such as Fiends) or do many quests. I suggest doing quests, as once you have explored the majority of the map many can be completed in 15 minutes or less and yield a hefty experience reward.

Do not forget the Here and Now Perk, which automatically levels you if you take it; save it for later levels when it takes more experience to level.
(This has since been patched; delete the patch to use this method.)
For maximum effectiveness, consider being well rested (+10% exp gain). Note that you must have started but not completed 'Flags of Our Foul-Ups' and be pursuing O'Hanrahan's option to use this!

Walker of the Mojave, 10: Discover 50 Locations.

'Discovering' a location is defined as walking there for the first time. You'll get a notification, 10 / 11exp, and a permanent marker will be added to your map. This achievement is best done over time, and will be acquired over the course of the main storyline.

Master of the Mojave, 25: Discover 125 Locations.

Another achievement that is simply done passively; you can most likely get it while doing quests and leveling to 30, but it's quite possible to need to actively search. Note that if you wish to power through the achievement follow this process:
  • Save just before leveling.
  • Level and take the 'Explorer' perk. Note the Explorer perk only reveals the location, it doesn't allow fast travel.
  • Methodically fast travel to the nearest discovered location to the desired undiscovered location and walk to said undiscovered location. Repeat until you reach 125 locations.
  • Reload the save before leveling.
  • Level and take a better perk.
-Thanks to Shaun72 for catching that the Explorer perk does not allow fast travel.

Globe Trotter, 25: Discover all snow globes.

This achievement is unlocked by finding a total of seven snow globes around the world, and they are relatively easy to get provided you know where to look. Their locations are as follows:

Goodsprings: Located in Goodsprings cemetery at the back left corner of the area at the base of a grave marker.
Hoover Dam: Located in the Hoover Dam Visitor Center, on top of the welcome desk.
Old Mormon Fort: Located in the tower directly to the right as you enter, on a shelf on the second floor.
Jacobstown: Located on the reception desk directly inside the lodge.
Nellis AFB: Located in the boomer museum, on a table directly to the right of the door.
Lucky 38: Located in the Cocktail Lounge (this isn't the casino floor) on the counter behind the cash register with a green lamp next to it.
Vault 21: Located in Sarah's room; the door is locked, requires 50 Lockpicking or her key.

-Thanks for the heads up about it not being missable from Ray5555 and DTF INFERNO.

Ol' Buddy Ol' Pal, 10: Recruit any companion.

The easiest companion to pick up is Boone. He will be found in Novac, and will join you after you complete his quest, One For My Baby. There will be no skill check if you had evidence in the quest, but you must pass a Speech 55 check if you had no evidence. Since you'll pass through Novac and the quest is extremely short, he's an easy choice. Also refer to The Whole Gang's Here for a full list.

The Whole Gang's Here, 25: Recruit all companions.

There are a total of eight companions in the game, and to get this achievement you must recruit all eight of them. This means you must get all eight of them to be willing to follow you; you don't have to do the special companion quest of each. See a detailed list here of all eight companions and their requirements. Two notes: First, this achievement is missable should any companion die before you recruit him / her due to a random encounter. Second, Arcade can be recruited with either 75 speech or 1 Intelligence (NOT higher than 1!)

-Thanks to Kester for the companion thread.

Crafty, 15: Craft 20 items.

You craft items by using any workbench or campfire in the wasteland. To name a few, there is a workbench next to the tavern in Goodsprings, a campfire near the wells in Goodsprings, and a workbench in the Presidential Suite of Lucky 38 (the workbench must be bought). The easiest way to get this achievement is to either recycle or convert ammo.

-Thanks to Tchort69 for the campfire heads up and DarkFujin for debunking the separate crafts.

Mod Machine, 15: Install 20 weapon mods.

Mods can be acquired from many traders in the waste, and then can be added to weapons via your pip boy. Each gun has anywhere from zero to three mods. You can do this over time or immediately after The Courier Who Broke the Bank, as then you'll be swimming in money. The gun runners have a good supply of mods to buy if you're searching.

You Run Barter Town, 15: Sell 10,000 caps worth of goods.

While this achievement can be acquired over time, it is obviously easier with a high barter level. If you want to power through this achievement, you can use the following method:
  • Find a merchant.
  • Sell the maximum amount of goods to a merchant (equal to his / her caps on hand).
  • Complete the transaction.
  • Buy back your own goods.
  • Repeat the last three bullets until you are out of caps / get the achievement.
If you are having trouble finding high value goods, must unique weapons sell for a pretty penny. You can also sell Power Armor for a hefty profit (kill NCR Heavies or BoS members for it). Lastly, finding all the snow globes should net you well over 10k caps which would make it very easy to use the above method. Alternatively, you can simply wait until after The Courier Who Broke the Bank and get the achievement quite quickly using the above method.

If you want to attain this achievement in a gradual fashion, then you can get this by simply looting everything you kill, combining the items by using your repair skill, and then selling all the goods when you get back to town. Remember that your influence with a faction determines the buy and sell prices of its merchants, so higher favor = less time and money!

Thanks to ReaptheChaos for catching that the patch eliminated merchant body looting.

No Tumbler Fumbler, 15: Pick 25 locks.

An achievement that simply must be done over time. Remember to take it slow, as each bobby pin has a 'health' bar such that if you guess wrong you can stop before it breaks. Should you fail often, you might want to invest in the Infiltrator (Perception 7, Lockpick 70) perk which lets you repick a broken lock one more time. This achievement can easily be done with Hack the Mojave, as many locked doors have a terminal next to them that can unlock the door. If you do them simultaneously, access the terminal first, hack it, but then unlock the door manually instead of through the computer. (Note that this has been patched for some locations; delete the patch to take advantage of it.)

Jury Rigger, 15: Repair 30 items.

You should get this achievement over the course of the game simply by looting bodies and repairing like items. Any area with a faction (minor or major) will have lots of potential enemies with like armor and weapons. Kill and loot them and you'll have a good amount of items to repair. Also don't forget the Jury Rigging (Repair 90) perk which makes this achievement trivially easy to get.

Hack the Mojave, 15: Hack 25 Terminals.

When a terminal is locked, you must play a puzzle to unlock it (if you have the prerequisite science level). The puzzle works by you getting four guesses to choose the password from the given words. If you guess wrong, the terminal will tell you how many letters you got correct (but not where). Unless you are absolutely sure, always back out of the terminal instead of making a fourth guess to avoid getting locked out. You can try again on the terminal and will just have to wait through about 5 seconds of typing before starting over. As mentioned before, this can be done in conjunction with No Tumbler Fumbler by hacking the terminal next to a locked door but then picking the lock. Should you fail a little too often, the Computer Whiz (Int 7, Science 70) perk will let you try again a few more times.

Artful Pocketer
, 15: Pick 50 Pockets.

For this achievement you must pick pocket 50 items. You can pick pocket by crouching down and then tapping A when hidden from the target. To maximize results, do it at night (if outside) with a high stealth level, low / no armor, and a stealth boy active if desired.

Outstanding Orator, 15: Make 50 Speech Challenges.

A speech challenge is when you are talking to a NPC and an option of dialog comes up with [Speech X] (where X is a number between 5 and 100) before it. This means you must have that speech level or higher to successfully use that dialogue. Get a high speech early and you can easily get this over the course of a game. See The Boss for a method of infinite Speech Challenges and exp.

Desert Survivalist, 15: Heal 10,000 points of damage with food.

Possibly the most annoying achievement in the game after Hardcore, this will almost certainly require boosting. A decent Survival skill score is a must, as it will greatly reduce the time to achieve this (Survival impacts how much health food replenishes). Also note that you must heal 10,000 points of damage, not eat 10,000 points of food health. A way to simply power through this is as follows:
  • Go to the Gourmand in the Ultra Luxe Casino with a large sum of money and no inventory.
  • Buy out the food waiter's inventory.
  • Wait for 48-72 hours.
  • Buy him out again.
  • Repeat the last two bullets until you have 10,000 points worth of health replenishment from food.
  • Walk next door into the Ultra Luxe Bathhouse.
  • Enter the pool and start drowning yourself, healing with food as required.
  • Continue until the achievement unlocks.

Stim-ply Amazing, 15: Heal 10,000 points of damage with Stimpaks.

A much more reasonable achievement than the above Desert Survivalist, this is achieved either over time or in a fashion to the above given method. Simply use a doctor to buy your stimpaks and wait when needed. A decent Medicine level and cash pile is suggested, and having Arcade as a companion can help speed this up.

Hardcore, 100: Play the game from start to finish in Hardcore Mode.

To achieve this, directly before leaving Doc Mitchel's house you'll be prompted to turn Hardcore mode on. You must choose yes to get this achievement! After turning it on, you cannot turn it off for the rest of the game. This means you must get to the end of the Battle for Hoover Dam without ever having turned it off. The achievement should pop just as the ending cinematic starts.

Some tips:
  • You'll want to have some reasonable level of strength, as weapon ammunition has weight (especially energy and explosive ammo)which will make a sizeable dent in your carrying capacity.
  • Always have at least three doctor's bags on you at all times as your limbs will most likely become crippled often. Don't take the Small Frame trait!
  • Keep in mind easy access water and food sources. To name two rad-free water sources that can be conveniently accessed: the well in Freeside and the sink in the Presidential Suite of Lucky 38. The Gourmand in the Ultra Luxe also usually has a large supply of food for sale.
  • If an item has a + in the Hunger, Thirst or Sleep stat, this is bad! You want negatives (-) so you can reduce them down. With this is mind, note that alcoholic beverages and Nuka Cola actually make you more thirsty.
  • Enemies have significantly more health, so if it gets too challenging turn down the difficulty before turning off hardcore mode.
A special thanks to DarthRandalNC, who wrote an extremely detailed Hardcore mode guide here.

Damage Achievements

These achievements are the main reason why the game requires more than one play through. While it is possible to get them all in one game, to save your sanity I suggest doing them in small groups. Between the Damage and Story Achievements it is simply more efficient to make a new character than to suffer with sub-par stats. Also note that an enemy's health is a direct function of the difficulty level and if Hardcore mode is on, so if you're feeling brave you can speed up these achievements by turning the difficulty up. There is a general strategy for all the damage achievements at the end of the section.

Blast Mastery, 15: Cause 10,000 damage with Energy Weapons.
Suggested Partner: Lead Dealer or Love the Bomb
While self explanatory, this achievement can be a bit bewildering as to how to accomplish. To start you need an energy weapon, either Laser or Plasma based. Note than Plasma based explosives don't count. You can get a Laser pistol right at the start of the game from Doc Mitchel, but after that they are hard to find. Fiends have energy weaponry in large supply for some reason, so they're a good target, as do the Brotherhood of Steel. The Silver Rush sells energy weapons from its almost unlimited supply, but are quite pricey overall. Also don't forget that traveling merchants can repair any weapon for a price, even if you don't have a second weapon to cannibalize for parts.

Love the Bomb, 15: Cause 10,000 damage with Explosives.
Suggested Partner: Blast Mastery, New Vegas Samurai, or Old-Tyme Brawler
Things go boom. So this achievement is most likely the easiest of the group if you have the caps to pay for it. Grenades and mines will be your bread and butter, as missiles and fat men are in short supply. For an early game explosive stockpile, loot the NCRCF Powder Gangers for dynamite. Raider groups usually have 1-3 grenades on them, so they'll be a constant influx as well. Most traveling merchants will also have a few frag grenades on hand. If you're struggling to find targets, head to the nearest robot infested building. This is because robots move slow (so they're easy grenade targets) and have lots of health.

Lead Dealer, 15: Cause 10,000 damage with Guns.
Suggested Partner: Blast Mastery or New Vegas Samurai
This one is perhaps the most straightforward of the group. Simply take a gun that uses bullets and shoot enemies. For best results, you'll want to fight against lightly armored opponents like Raiders, Fiends, and Great Khans. Also remember that unless you want to wait for the Weapon Handling (Level 16, Strength under 10) perk you'll need a Strength of at least 3, though up to 5-8 if you want versatility in weapon choices.

New Vegas Samurai
, 15: Cause 10,000 damage with Melee Weapons.

Suggested Partner: Lead Dealer, Love the Bomb, or Old-Tyme Brawler
Though this damage type is not particularly complicated, the Strength it requires allows it to have a nice synergy with most of the other damage types. Just remember that melee damage is not the same thing as unarmed damage; melee weapons are considered any weapon that isn't a 'glove', so-to-say. So to make it clear, you must inflict the damage with a weapon that you swing (like a sledgehammer), not your bare fists or a Fist / glove weapon.

Old-Tyme Brawler
, 15: Cause 10,000 damage with Unarmed Weapons.

Suggested Partner: New Vegas Samurai or Love the Bomb
The counterpart to New Vegas Samurai, the 10,000 damage for this achievement must come from using your bare fists or Fist / Glove weapons. A respectable strength (5 or higher) is required for this achievement, and a high agility and stealth are also recommended. To expedite this achievement, try to make a character that focuses on getting critical hits through stealth and VATS. That will greatly increase your damage output and effectiveness.

A general strategy for the damage achievements and a few others courtesy of Ferocious:

Obviously this will result in a pretty crappy, lonely game so you will most likely want to revert once you get your achievement. This can be done much easier in the same spot for all of the other Damage achievements. I was using an unarmed/melee build with maybe 30-35 in guns and explosives. The only reason I started to add points to explosives was for the pyromaniac perk. Just be careful when doing the explosives one, you'll find yourself getting splash damaged a lot but it's also a good way to rack up damage quickly and use stimpacks to heal for that achievement or the last stretch for the Desert survivalist. I believe I went from about 500 to 5000dmg healed with stimpacks just doing the explosives achievement on hardcore.

Gambling Achievements

Though not exceedingly important, I suggest waiting to do all these achievements except Know When to Fold Them and Caravan Master until you are ready to complete The Courier Who Broke the Bank. This is for the simple reason that you'll be gambling then anyway, so you might as well be efficient about it.

Know When to Fold Them, 10: Win 3 games of Caravan.

Caravan is a game that you can play with almost anyone who is willing to trade. I highly suggest talking to Ringo in his Goodsprings hideout, as if you talk to him about Caravan he'll give you a Caravan deck for free. Otherwise you'll have to find the cards and construct the deck yourself. The rules to Caravan are printed in the game's manual, but a quick summary follows.
  • The goal is to get your three piles with total values between 21 and 26 in each.
  • When all three columns between you and your opponent have at least one completed stack, the game ends. Player with the most completed stacks wins.
  • Top card (the last card played on top of the pile) determines suit, top card and second-to-last cards determine direction. All cards played on stack must follow direction or suit.
  • Aces worth one point, Face cards and Jokers have special effects.
  • You can play Face cards and Jokers on your opponent's piles.
See Caravan Master for some Strategies.

Caravan Master, 30: Win 30 games of Caravan.

You'll have to win 30 games of Caravan for this one. You can get multiple victories against an opponent, but the opponent will stop playing once out of money. Buy some items from the trader or find a new player when this happens. See the following YouTube video for some advanced tricks.

One Armed Bandit, 10: Play 10 spins of slots.

A simple achievement as it does not even require you to win. Simply pull the handle on any slot machine 10 times and you'll get the achievement. The Atomic Wrangler Casino in Freeside is the first chance you get to play slots, but I suggest waiting until you're on the Strip.

Little Wheel, 10: Play 10 spins of Roulette.

The exact same premise as before, simply play ten spins of Roulette. A spin is defined as placing as many bets as you choose and then spinning the ball around the wheel. Once again, you can go to the AW but I suggest the Strip.

Double Down, 10: Play 10 hands of Blackjack.

The third iteration, just be dealt into a hand of Blackjack ten times and the last of the three is yours. As before, you can go to the AW but I suggest the Strip.

The Courier Who Broke the Bank, 30: Get banned from all the Strip's casinos.

This achievement requires a little luck. Well, maybe a lot of luck depending on how you look at it. But in all seriousness a high Luck will make this achievement substantially easier. Slots are more or less random, though if you get lucky they are potentially the quickest way to complete the achievement. If you have a high Luck (8+) you'll want to play Blackjack, as you'll be dealt good hands almost all the time. If your Luck is left wanting, the only sure way to win is to abuse saves with Roulette:
  • Save before you place your bets.
  • Place bets, deciding where to bet by determining how impatient you are.
  • Spin and see if you win or lose.
  • If you win, save and go back to the first bullet.
  • If you lose, reload your last save and go back to the second bullet.
You can choose to not save after every spin depending upon your comfort level. To help improve your odds using any method, you'll want to be wearing Naughty Nightwear (+1 LUK) and possibly buy the Probability Calculator (+1 LUK) from the New Vegas Clinic.

After winning a substantial amount of caps (9k Gomorrah, 10k Tops, 15k Ultra Luxe), you'll be kicked out of the casino. Repeat two more times and the achievement is yours.

Achievement Roadmap

Achievements in red should be gotten at that point listed in the guide. Achievements in blue mean you can get them anytime in the play through, but they're listed in the suggested / predicted order. Achievements in green can be gotten on any play through, but are suggested at that location. After the first play through, you may save at critical points (see the 'Story Achievements' section of the guide) and reuse saves to cut down on number of playthroughs. I advise against this, but it's your choice.

1. First Play Through: Turn Hardcore mode on, and your character should have a Strength and Agility Focus. Also make sure your character has a decent Repair, Lockpicking, and Stealth.
  • Ain't That a Kick in the Head as you start. Come Fly With Me after you reach Novac, as well as Ol' Buddy Ol' Pal.
  • They Went That Away and Jury Rigger as you make your way to the Strip.
  • Ring-A-Ding-Ding, Know When to Fold Them, Caravan Master, One Armed Bandit, Little Wheel, and Double Down when you reach the Strip.
  • Pursue Mr House quest line; New Kid and Walker of the Mojave as you progress.
  • New Vegas Samurai, Old-Tyme Brawler, and Up and Comer as you complete 'The House Always Wins' multipart quest.
  • Volare! when you reach the boomers. Globe Trotter as well.
  • No Tumbler Fumbler, Artful Pocketer, and Crafty as you progress.
  • The House Always Wins, All or Nothing, and Hardcore as you end the game.
2. Second Play Through: Your character should have an Intelligence and Endurance Focus, as well as decent Survival, Medicine, and Science skills.
  • Continue through story as before. Side with NCR this time.
  • Complete G.I. Blues, That Lucky Old Sun, and Return to Sender.
  • As you complete these and the NCR quest line, Hack the Mojave, Blast Mastery, and Love the Bomb should come.
  • Attain Stim-ply Amazing and Desert Survivalist over time or by boosting.
  • Finish the game and attain For the Republic, You'll Know When it Happens, and Eureka!
3. Third Play Through: Your character should have a high Charisma and Luck with decent Barter, Speech, and Guns skills.
  • Talent Pool when you make it to the Strip.
  • The Boss and Outstanding Orator over time or from the infinite exp speech method. Master of the Mojave after one of the levels.
  • Follow Legion path (but don't destroy fort securitrons). Lead Dealer and The Whole Gang's Here over time.
  • Achieve The Courier Who Broke the Bank. Then Mod Machine and You Run Barter Town.
  • Complete The Legend of the Star.
  • Save here!
  • Finish the game for Render Unto Caesar, Arizona Killer, and Veni, Vini, Vici.
4. Reload Third Play Through.
  • Pursue the Wildcard path.
  • Finish the game for Wild Card and No Gods, No Masters.

I don't believe this is right. I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure I completed Volare and still have all four faction quest lines available.

This guide seems to be more organized than the last, but I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Agreed. At least this one isn't fraught with grammar issues either. I look forward to it's completion!

Thumbs up

Actually the OP put some good stuff in here. I've already done all of this in-game, however he has some good tips. If you don't feel like walking over to find raiders for Desert Survivalist, you can always go into the pool right in the Ultra-luxe as well go under water until O2 starts depleting and your health will start to go down (very quickly) after a bit then stand up, eat, etc.. But standing there while they are hitting you is good, unless you are playing on Hardcore like I was (your health doesn't replenish so fast, so it depends on who's hitting you and also you can't have allies with you for the OP's method and sometimes in Freeside the Kings will shoot at thugs as well if they are around).

Good work so far, if you need any help feel free to let me know.

The Damage ones: For explosives, stock up from the Boomers by buying & stealing everything in the Munitions area (the building next to the hangar). Make a few saves, go in every hotel on the strip taking everyone out, including the people on the street.. doesn't matter friend or foe.

You cannot fast travel to the locations that unlock on the map from simply taking the perk that unlocks them. They will all show on the map but you still have to 'discover' 125 of them.

I don't want to start a flame war but it I am getting tired of seeing people rush to put out hastily written guides where they list strategies they have yet to even test out. There are at least four different incomplete guides on this forum now and all of them have something blatantly wrong with them (no updating for days at a time, bad grammar/spelling, wrong information regarding story/gaining achievements). I am not a guide contributer myself but that is simply because I don't have the time to commit to a proper guide. For those that do have the time: Your efforts are commendable but you need to be thorough and commited to testing the strategies for yourself and/or actually updating the guide in a timely manner to avoid it becoming sixth page news and for people to take any future efforts from said contributors seriously. Sorry for the ramble but I think I speak for a good chunk of the community.

I can't speak for all the collectibles in the game (weapons, armor, perks, etc.), but the only collectibles that are missable in terms of achievements are the snow globes.

Ferocious: Thanks for the tips, I'll be sure to add them to the guide and give you credit!

Shaun72: I'm sorry that I didn't catch that; when I tried the method out I had already unlocked most locations, and as such simply assumed that the method worked the same as it did in Fallout 3. For that I apologize, and I'll make sure to edit the guide accordingly. In terms of a hastily written guide, this is anything but. Though I've not fully added everything (and it looks like I'll have to start cutting because of a lack of room) even now it's quite the thorough guide. Mistakes are in human nature, but when you complain that a guide has mistakes when its still in the process of being written you're guilty of the crime you accuse me of: rushing before being ready.

In other news, all categories have been added, as well as all achievement pictures and basic descriptions. Guides still have to be written for each quest, though I will most likely not do a quest walk through for each but more a basic information dossier with links to full guides. I'm going to do that tomorrow however as I've been at this for the past six hours and need to start getting other work done.

Just a heads up, I got the Crafty achievement by cooking Gecko Stakes on a fire, so you don't just have to use the workshop tables etc.

The Globe trotter achievement unlocks as soon as you've collected the 7th snow globe. You do not have to turn them in. The achievement popped as soon as I got the 7th globe from the old mormon fort in freeside

Thanks, fixed and credited.

Ray5555: Hmm, strange. I didn't get it until I turned them in to Mr. House. But I'll fix the guide, thanks for the heads up.

DTF INFERNO: Strange again. Looks like I'm in the minority on this one, so i'll fix the guide accordingly. Thanks to you as well.

Globe Trotter is not missable. I killed Mr House then collected the globes and still got the achievement.

For the "Crafty" achievement. There is a Reloading Bench and a Work Bench next to each other in the Garage across the Street from the motel in Novac where you can easily recycle your ammo at.

so do you have to choose only one faction to ally with? or is it possible to do the quest line for Mr House & the NCR on one playthrough, then create a new character & then do the quest line for Caesar's Legion along with the ones in the Wild Card. I was planning on doing this since I was going to have a good character & an evil character & I'd rather not have to save, get the faction achievement, re-load & repeat the process.

I would suggest saving immediately before / after entering the Lucky 38 (depending upon how you plan on interacting with Mr. House). At that point is the real start of NCR, Legion, and Mr. House, then Wildcard starts imminently thereafter.

wolfzero01: You can be friendly with more than one of the major factions, but you must choose one faction to 'ally' with. Thus you can't get both the NCR and Mr. House endings in one play through but you can ally with Mr. House and help the NCR, for example.

Please check my thread for some tips. Like getting all the faction achievements as quick as possible, and Desert survivalist. You don't have to "heal" all of it, you can have what like -100hp and eat 100 60HP items and get 6000 points towards the achievement. As long as you can withstand the amount it heals you can spam all the food. I did it with Brahmin steaks. If you use anything please give me credit.
