I refused to watch it.

I bet it was all one sided and all the people they talked to were in some way addicted to gaming so it looked like they had a valid point!

Its just the same shit different day!

The only non-biased thing in it is when they interviewed a kid who was addicted to WoW, and he said he didn't blame Blizzard, as they made an excellent game.

Seriously, it was pretty one-sided. But of course people could get addicted to gaming - it's the same as anything that makes you feel good! Everything in moderation, that's what my mum says!

You knew before they even started they'd go to people who: A - Are 40 and live at home or B - Play MMORPGs. Plus other things.

I love gaming and I play every night, but as soon as a friend goes "Hey wanna come to the pub?" etc then I'm off and out. I can turn off my console without even worrying about it. Well as long as I've saved that is lol, then there maybe a quick wait until I've done it lol.

Panorama are just annoying me atm with the WC then this, so I refuse to watch is as I know I'll just be shouting at the tv. Come interview me and I'll tell them to FO

I watched it, but I have a slight bias to these sorts of shows about the internet and games, because it turns some parents into fear induced crazies. For example, I used to go on the internet a lot when I was younger, for school, fun and to talk to friends. I had never used a chatroom. However, my mum watched some programme on the BBC and instantly thought that because of the interview with someone who had been groomed, and the dude that got someone to kill him, she thought I was hanging out with paedophiles and murderers and took the internet off me or insisted on watching what I was doing. It was retarded. Not all parents are up to date with technology and not all of them understand it enough to make an educated decision based on the facts they have. So the shows can just be mediums to boom out: BEWARE, INTERNET CAUSES RAPE AND MURDER. PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN, PARENTS OF THE UK.

The reports never seem to fairly focus on both sides. They focus on shocking, one off's, that wouldn't even occur to the VAST majority of gamers. Even when they talk to normal gamers, everyone's still thinking of the Korean parents or the WoW dude.

To be honest, I used to be addicted to a click game about 3 years ago. But it /really/ is just due to boredom. TV is pretty rubbish these days, and when you're young, there's not always much to do at night. But I've gone to uni, I've got a job, and frankly I couldn't care less about the game I used to play. The turning point is actually getting off your arse and finding something more worthwhile, fulfilling and just better to do.

These guys just need to do something else. Going for a jog, is not going to rid you of addiction. That xbox player, who restricts himself and uses it as a reward for doing the work he needs to during the day, that's how it needs to be addressed. In all honesty, the non rehab'd WoW just didn't have his heart in it.

I think it would have been more fair if we'd also looked at more people who do just play games for fun, not the endless stream of 'addicts'. And speaking to normal gamers and getting them to say "Yes, games can be addicting" doesn't count.

I think it does have some valid points, like yes, games CAN be addicting, like anything else. And yes, I think the health organisations/government's should be aware and put in place some things to help the few who could become addicted. However, we shouldn't just dive in and start putting restrictions on the gaming industry (especially in the UK) since it's rapidly growing and helping our economy. Plus addiction is not for everyone, I'm sure yes, some of us might be addicted, but not everyone is. Most can deal with gaming as a chance to relax and have fun.

In summary, I don't like shows like this because they're biased and fear-mongering from the media. Yes, games can be addicting, but it doesn't effect a majority. I think before anyone starts throwing around accusations of "who is to blame" and that it's going to become a massive problem in the UK, more scientific research needs to be done. Get the facts straight and then start building a solution.

True lol

But it is a nd always be a one sided story!

I play most night, and they'll proabaly put that under "addicted" catagory. Yet do they know I have a full time job? I socialise? Can quit when ever? No they see it as I play a lot or more than the average and thats that!

They need to stop making these programmes as they don't know what they're talking about.

As Terriah said about TV. I said more people are addicted to that then anything else. How many brain washed people every night sit there watch the same shit day in and day out. Does it help them in anyway, I doubt it. I can see the facts and social of Eastenders helping in everyday life.. Yet gaming in some cases has been prove to help hand to eye coordination and reactions, plus among other things.

Now I agree its not good to play for 24hr skints, but theres always pros and cons to everything in life and with shows like this they always look at the cons.

TV sucks, so I play video games

Good find Ellamouse. I didn't catch this in Canada, will have to check out the BBC stream, but we get all kinds of this tripe in our own media and the paranoid fear-mongering programs broadcast up from the US are even worse. As video games become a larger portion of the entertainment industry there's going to be more focus on it's negative implications.

That the well-adjusted majority of gamers: people with families, jobs, mortgages, and regular lives in general just aren't news worth reporting. No shock value so they don't bother talking to them for the other side of the coin.

If people aren't self-destructing and taking down a city block with them in a bloody heap there's no story to be had.

TOOL had a song about it, I think it was called "Vicarious"...

Human beings are just obsessed in watching ourselves implode.

Addictions in general are good sport for news casters, video games or heroine overdose doesn't matter so long as someone is going nuts and ruining their life the producers are smiling.

Just adding on, this topic seems to be in Xbox360Achievements.org > Games > Role Playing > NIER
Is there any reason why it's in here?
