Your opinion on the new Tomb Raider// Updates

I honestly don't know what to think about the new Lara...I think they shoulda built the story as it being set in the future, and this new character wants to be just like the legendary Lara Croft. When I hear Lara Croft, the old one comes to mind, and I don't think that the new her can replace that.

Game Informer Hub

Periodically, they are releasing more info about the new Tomb Raider.

I personally can't wait for this. The last couple of Tomb Raider games have been a bit hit & miss, and for HellSpawnRei, how can you dismiss it as not being a Tomb Raider game when you know next to nothing about it?

I'd say its safe to assume there will be plenty of tombs/caves/temples to explore, but instead of being ferried there with a cutscene, we can make our own way there on a sandbox island. The freedom that will hopefully give the series has me really excited.

Just dont write it off because it's doing things a bit differently, different can be good.

The one thing I'm worried about is that it might get a bit boring being in the one location for the whole game. In the previous games I've loved changing the locations and then choosing the different outfits for said location but if she's permanently in the same clothes / on the same island with the same surroundings, it might get a bit boring. Like the Peru level of Anniversary / TR1 or the Thailand level of Underworld... but for the whole game instead of just for one level.

I agree!
I'm looking forward to this, but what did they do to Lara? She looks like a wolf! Very bad cover choice.

Meh, you're all stupid.

I saw the GI cover and thought, "Kick. Ass."
I flipped to the article and said, "Hole. Lee. Shit."
By the time I finished reading the preview, I was merry as a schoolboy, giddy as a drunken man, and had an urge to stand on my head.

So she doesn't have a ponytail or shades yet. It's the same woman-- the same character that's been in all these games. It's just that in the past, you (the players) have kinda had to develop that character in your own imagination, since the games didn't really delve too deep into that part of it.
So now hopefully Square Enix is going to give us, and let us play through, a story about her, not just about her finding some old shit and fighting some bad guys for it.

I think only a thing: Tomb Raider is a ended-up franchise, and it should go back to Core Desing.

For me, I know I'll definitely be getting this straight away.

I reckon it will be fun to watch Lara develop from a perhaps shy, not so well equipped (no pun intended) young woman into the cocky, confident, skilled & athletic tomb raider we've come to know & love.

OH GOD I am so totally excited for it after seeing the E3 teaser. I was pretty apprehensive at first just hearing about the reboot, but what I have seen has already sold me. I have very fond memories of playing the original 15 years ago when I was only 10.

I already felt more for Lara in that 6 minutes of footage than I ever have due to how she reacted when falling and how injured she was. I just wanted to run in there and save her ass. If anyone remembers the original two games and how frustrating they were at times, I remember purposely jumping off and killing her at times out of spite. That is something I know will not happen with this new vision of her.

As soon as I saw her lip quiver, I got chills honestly, and that is something that just does not happen to me when viewing a game, ever. I am very confident of the new direction they are taking Lara, as I believe this will allow us to connect to her in a much realer way than a big breasted lady doing back flips and shooting T-Rex's.

The voice actress for her is top notch and IMO the perfect fit for a younger, yet to be bad ass Lara. As long as they can nail the combat controls and possibly add a type of side mission feature where you can explore extra tombs and whatnot for perhaps better weapons or health increases...then there is no doubt in my mind this can be the Tomb Raider I've always dreamed of.

This is going to be one long year and a half wait. I already snatched up a wallpaper from the site to use. I'm really blown away by how excited I am for this when my expectations were pretty low.

I fell in love with the new, younger Lara almost immediately. Normally it's the locations that are the interesting part of the tomb raider games, but i am really looking forward to the character journey of the young Lara.

I'm just wondering what time setting this will be, i know she has just finished college, but will there be a certain year or will it be like Casino Royale, where it was James Bonds past but set in the future?

I personally Haven't played a Tomb Raider game since 1999. I've never had any interest in them. To me they were all the same, with the Same Ridiculously proportioned, plastic Protagonist. And contrary to what Society Says I should be Attracted to, big Plastic Breasts just don't do it for me.

So When I saw the Game Informer Cover however, I was immediately intrigued. And that was Just Lara's new Face! When I saw the Entirety of her "Rebooted" look I was Very Interested. The Premise is fantastic: A Young Lara on her first Voyage of Discovery. Only this time, she will Discover herself. The E3 Trailer was also Unbelievably awesome. I hope there's new Footage from PAX this weekend.

I personally find the New Lara to be infinitely more Attractive than the last. She is So much more Realistic, And I don't mean just Graphics and Pixels. I mean she Actually looks like a Real Female, and not a Barbie Doll.

It's like Casino Royale, if you look at the trailer Lara has an iPhone, I doubt she had one in eighties (when she was 20).

Do you know this is a reboot? It's not a prequel, it's not a "story from the past where they tell how Lara became an adventure", it's a totally new story, it ignores everything happened in the last games.

This is the new beginning that the series needed. Hopefully this will be one of the best games of the year: it looks very promising, but I'm going to wait for the reviews before placing an order. Either it is extremely good or just simply disappointing.

I think it is a good thing they've started off a completely different story. not going to deny that i will miss the old Lara so much. I grew up playing all of the games on ps1 ps2 xbox etc... I loved them! One of my favourite games definitely. Her story has come to an end sadly so i guess their only option was to start a new. I could of thought of many new story lines to be honest but oh well they did what they did, I for one am excited to see what this different type of lara has in store for us to see.

It's also good to know that since it's a starting franchise there will be more Lara games to look forward to in the future

i still can't believe they extended the release date to march 2013... It would have been out in 8 days if they didn't set it back ! omfg

I believe their going to be doing everything you stated, except for the future thing. I'm liking the new Lara and the whole survivor horror element vibe there giving to the series; however, I hope they still retain what made "Tomb Raider" ...Tomb Raider.

Jury is out for me. I remember the first one, it was all about killing animals and raiding tombs. Why the need for an "origin" story? She did it (tomb raiding) because her dad did it, and both her parents were now dead. Now it looks like we're getting a bow and gun totting pixie haired girl, who alternates between crying and blowing people away. Played by an English girl who sounds American. Could have at least kept her voice the same. It's looking that different, it might as well have a different name.

What do I think of the new Lara? I will totally do her, I will fall in love with her as soon as she appear. And Iīm talking on her new looks, not the old unrealistic plastic shitty woman or the new voice actress weirdo face or Angelina disgusting Jolie, no, Iīm talking about how does she looks in trailers and promotional material, especially in that first picture of her with the bow and stuff, she looks really sexy. Not that much of a fan of her in-game looks though, she seems to have a more circular face in the footage show so far, younger than her looks on the picture. I really love how she looks on that particular picture.

Not extremely hyped for the game or anything, but will get it eventually on a reduced price or something. Mainly because it seems the mayor influence for this was Uncharted and that game bored me to hell, to much shit happening while I pushed one botton, And not saying quick time events and the alikes are not a god thing, is just that very few games (I can think now only in Shenmue saga and The Walking Dead Telltale chapters) seems to do it right and enjoyable. I really think the game will be more linear than what their initial conferences about "an island for you to explore, scavenging for survival" and, just like Uncharted, may become a nice story series of videos in-game mixed with QTE and "cover and shoot" gameplay and some puzzles that are most of the time as simple as push in the right order the only two levers there is in this room you canīt get out.

BUT, as an idea, as a revival, I think they have made the right choice. Only "too much loyalty 4eva" fans will truly can still play the old games and say they havenīt age and that still today are worthy games of playing them. Only a sad caricature of a man will say old cartoon plastic Lara was better than this. But then, thereīs always people that scream "this was better because it was first" and in some places science is still put under religion believes. Oooh the humanity...what a pile of shitty opinions.
