Tips for Marble Zone 1 under 80 seconds?

Hi everyone,

First post here (only found the website recently) and if someone could help me out, it would be great.

Been playing Sonic and I've got all achivements apart from the under 80 seconds one in marble zone. I've managed 89 seconds but really am struggling to do better.

Any tips on getting this?

Thanks, James.

Welcome to the site, dude. Did you check out the stickied Achievement Guide thread? There is a youtube video of someone doing it in under 80 seconds. Basically just learn the jump pattern to get through the above-ground part as quickly as possible, then the rest you have to wait for things to move most of the time, so that's just a matter of getting to them on the first try. If you have to wait for something to move a second time, you probably won't get it.

Drop by the Member Profile section and tell us a bit about yourself.

What I did was repeat one chunk of the level at a time until I got a good time on it, immediately saved, and continued on to the next part from there. It makes it a bit simpler to get to know the level, and you don't have to start over from the beginning every single time you screw up.

Doing Marble Zone quickly is a pain, because a lot of it is waiting for things to happen. If you're unlucky, you may have to wait at the end of the first above-ground area for the entrance to open up, and wait again for the green crushers to move. Then you've got to push the block onto the switch, wait for the blocks to fall from the ceiling before jumping over them, wait for the spikes to fall so you can climb up them...

Basically, if you make a mistake, or if you have to wait for something to happen more than once, you might not do it.

I absolutely hate this achievement! I've gotten 81 seconds 3 times but was never able to get 80. But I keep playing it over and over untill i get it.

The best time saver is after you go across the lava pit, and you have to wait for the spiked platform to drop down? Well jump as it's going up so you are facing left and you hit the spikes, and you get bumped up to the above ledge from getting injured. Saves you seconds waiting around.

Otherwise, check out a speed run.

Not sure... on both Speed Runs they do it with about 5-10 seconds to spare.

I did it with 3 seconds to spare. I kept watching the youtube video and mimicked the shortcuts that he did. If you compare times have the same time or less than the guy on youtube, your doing good.

This is easy peasy with the save function. The opening segment is where your time gets eaten up, so keep trying the first bit (after the burning green platforms, and you are first stalled by a moving wall) until you get a time which seemed fairly quick. Then save.

The rest of the level you don't have that much say over anyway, since the blocks movement dictates your time for you. Its just imperative you enter the underground part of the level off the back a speedy opening.

I easily got it, and I usually haven't the patience for platformers.

Just keep trying you'll get it eventually. Did 79 seconds & only now I've seen the youtube vid above - will definitely come in handy for the fast win achievement.

I found the first part hardest but just try to make sure when you come to the shield after jumping over burning platforms on the first overgorund part - that the platform is going down & you find at least the first and possibly the second crushers going up. Rest of it is fine.

I finally managed to get a time of 79 seconds the other day. It's a tricky but actually fun achievement to go for, only the rest of the speed run, all emeralds and perfect run to get for me now. With the "save and start" technique it shouldn't prove too difficult, another couple of playthroughs should do it.

my best advice is to use and abuse the save/restart feature whenever you get through a portion of the level in a good amount of time.
