Exclamation How to fix your dead controller batteries !

Hi guys
I found this and it worked for me I fixed 2 battery packs I was ready to throw out the window !!
I did not write this, link at original post in the end !

HOPE IT HELPS EVERYONE

--

This is my first tutorial, but I had this problem a while ago that my rechargeable battery packs for my xbox controller were no longer charging properly. I would plug them into the charging dock for the light to flash red before going to green, when it obviously wasn't charged properly.

I tried the old technique of unplugging and replugging the battery pack in until it stayed red for longer, but this didn't work for me.

This is how to completely drain the battery pack and reset it so that it will start to charge again!

What you need:
Rechargeable battery packs (the ones we are trying to fix)
a few paper-clips
A charging station or whatever you use to recharge your packs

Preparation
First bend your paper clip into a horse shoe shape, it is easier if you do a few

Draining the Battery pack
You'll see 6 pins on the battery of the battery pack.
[] [] [] [] [] []

You need to use the horseshow paper-clip to touch pins 2 and 5 together (in red)
The paper clip will get hot, when it does either change paper clips or let it cool
Repeat this until there is no charge left in the battery (the paper clips will no longer get hot)

*When you first do this, you may find the paper clip doesn't get hot, keep pressing 2 and 5 together and you will begin to feel the heat*

To Reset the battery indicator circuit
[] [] [] [] [] []

First touch pin 1 and 5 together (blue)

[] [] [] [] [] []

Then touch pin 2 and 6 together (red)

Now you should be finished!

plug it into the dock and good luck!

If you are having difficulties heating up the paperclip, here are a few tips:
Reset the battery indicator (step 2) and then try heating them up again. If you've accidently touched pins other than 2 + 5 together then it may stop the charge from being released
use the length of the paperclip instead of the tips, as the tips may be worn down
Rub pins 2 + 5 with the tips of your paper clip to cause a bit of friction

This is interesting. I've thrown out my fair share of rechargeable batteries over time, and always assumed they had simply reached the end of their useable life.

well one of my packs just started being really weak and couldn't hold charge much... Also when I charged it, it said it was done within 3 minutes...
AFter I done this it charged for over an hour so I don't know how long it will last

My other one was totally dead but after this I can get it to stay functional for 1 minute..I'll keep doing it maybe it will get better !

What I'm doing is, do the pin 1-5 then 2-6 and start charging it again... As soon as it turns green I take it out, do it again :P

After 3-4 tries I managed to get my totally dead pack to light up red when charging and it's been 1 hour since !

Getting excited !

The packs are cheap to buy but why replace something that can be fixed? Plus, I can't be bothered to go all the way down to a shop to get them (I always end up buying some games too and I said I will not buy ANY more games for 1 year... 210 unplayed ones are more than enough )

To anyone that has tried this, how hot does the paper clip get?

Really hot. I have a small blister on my finger because I was refusing to believe it would get any hotter, and I have heavily calloused hands from work. I then switched to a long wire, about 5 feet, and it didn't get as hot as fast, because it had less resistance being a larger gauge then the paperclip. I have already devised a device to make this easier and without the need to hold it. I figure that this is but a temporary fix, and that it will be needed to be done more and more frequently. So, I figured a little machine to do the task of completely discharging the battery would be the best route.

cheers for this might get a bit more use out of my crappy battery packs lol but just a thought you might want to actually give a rough idea of how hot the paper clips get... (you know for safety reasons lol)

Which way?

I don't know if it's upside down or not. There's the Microsoft logo, and then there's the white part with text and they're both facing different ways.

I did mine so that the button at the top is up, Microsoft is right way up and the serial number is upside down. It worked great.

Wireless suck because they need batteries? I would much rather charge a couple of batteries, than having a tripping hazard laying across my floor with two kids, a dog, and a rather large rabbit running around all the time. Since there is no performance difference between the two (aside from an un-noticeable 4/1000 of a second, ie: Your TV doesn't refresh this fast so you won't notice a difference), saying wireless sucks is a rather weak statement.
