Which Game has your favourite story line and why?

Leave below a comment of your favourite campaign story line and why, it can be a single game or a whole series, mine personally is the Gears of war storyline (Through 1,2 and 3) Although my single favourite was the 2nd one..This is because it's thrilling, it's got action, it adds curiosity, it has everything!

So yeah, leave a comment below if you want
- Thank you,
Alex, Shedcat.

Tough call. It will probably end up being Skyrim for a single game, but as I'm holding off on much of the main quest, can't say so in fairness yet. For the series, I can safely say TES though.

Other series-

Xenosaga- It is right up there. I love the story of these games so much. Sci-fi future setting with an interesting game mythology that combines a bunch of real-life ones.
Phantasy Star I-IV- These were such a favorite of mine when I was young. I wish they'd go back to that plotline and the style of the original games.
Fallout- It is more depressing but a really well-done storyline!

Honorable mentions- Dragon Quest V, Final Fantasy X, and Lost Odyssey.

Hmm.. that is a tough decision. Mine would be a tie between two series.

1) Sonic Adventures - These games defined the Sega Dreamcast for me based on their plotlines and gameplay. They lasted me through almost 12 years and I still continue to play both of these games even today.

2) Bioshocks - Regarding the Xbox 360 these were two of my favourite games. The plotlines were amazing and I'm highly anticipating Bioshock Infinite. Even if the third isn't set in Rapture which was by far one of the greatest settings for a video game that I've ever experienced, I'll still love it.

Bioshock 1 & 2
Both games had me hooked with some incredible twists and turns throughout.

Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
Very cinematic adventure and the brilliant voice acting really made me connect with the characters.

Batman Arkham Asylum
Introduced me to the world of the Dark Knight with a gripping story and two of my favourite villains (Joker and Scarecrow).

I could probably think of more (Mass Effect is an obvious one), but these were the first that came to mind.

Mass Effect hands down. I'm duly impressed with Bioshock, Enslaved, Fallout and other highly respectable games, there's some truly incredible stories out there. But Mass Effect has never gotten old to me. Like reading a good book I can always pick it up again and have the same enjoyment from it. My Commander Shepard is a red-head too.

My close second is Half Life. WWGFD? It's an out of body experience from the opening tram ride through Black Mesa in Half Life right up until the final moments of Half Life 2 Episode 2. I loved every moment of it.

I've noticed a couple of votes for Gears of War and Mass Effect...Fun games, and entertaining stories but overall very derivative. Same stories that have been told in video games, books and movies for decades. Same goes for the completely unoriginal post-apocalyptic Fallout stories and generic fantasy story Elder Scroll games (though again, I love the games).

My vote would be for Assassin's Creed. Honestly, the series isn't my favorite in the world but that is more because of the repetitive gameplay issues. As far as the story goes it is an interesting new take on conspiracy theories combined with elements of a dystopian future. Both storytypes have been done almost to death but the combination of the two and the interesting new approach keep it from being derivative.

My runner-up would probably have to be Catherine. Again, not a great game because of gameplay issues but the story is absolutely fantastic. Some of the 7 or so completely different endings are the best and most sastisfying endings I've ever seen.

Third Place goes to the Bioshock series. Again, an interesting take on dystopian societies. Even though this subject has been done a thousand times it is always nice to see a fresh new take that doesn't completely steal from everything else in the story-telling genre.
For the Imperium!

Thanks to Gackt for the sig

It would be a toss-up between Mass Effect 1 (and 2) and Red Dead Redemption.

To me, Mass Effect is like the Star Wars of video games. Epic, great characters, huge universe - it's just really a great game all round.

And Red Dead Redemption, again I feel it just all came together fantastically. Plus I loved the scenery as an added bonus.

Well i'm really enjoying Mass Effect 2's story right now. Little late to the party I know, i have had the game for a while now but just haven't got round to playing it. I like it better than Mass Effect 1. I have probably played better, but for a single game Mass Effect 2 is really well constructed, and I'm not even finished yet.

Final Fantasy 8. The dreams with Laguna then meeting up further along in the game and the story with the sorceress and headmaster Cid.
On Xbox either Alan Wake even though it took me a couple playthroughs to get what was going on fully or Gears1,2,3.

Mass Effect series. I'm pretty obsessed with it lol I just love the concept. A Sci-Fi adventure that allows you to explore the galaxy meeting different alien races, built relationships with them and with your crew, making good/evil choices that can have a bigger impact than you would normally think, and preparing for a war against an advanced race of machines that determines the fate of the galaxy. What makes it so great is being able to choose how it all plays out. Can't wait for March to see how "my" story turns out lol

Ah, Bioshock and Red Dead Redemption <3 great story lines.

Assassin's Creed by very far.
I find it simply epic how they've created a storyline over four games which interests gamers from start to finish.

Not a lot of games with really good storyline. And if I don't count Bioware (Because anything they made would be the most obvious choice.)it is even harder to choose one.
Hmm lets see....I think I go with Half-Life as a series. No other game has really such a deep well structured world with as well written characters who you actually care about. Also the story is a bit minimalistic, but that is what makes it so great. No story that tryes to be an epic story of something, but a down to the earth honest well done story.

14 completed games. 7 retail, 7 arcade.

Think it would have to be Final Fantasy 10 for me.

*** Spoilers *** (Then again who's not played it already?)
It has everything - time travel, a love story, accomplishment, tragedy and the feeling you get when you find out your dad is a giant monster that eats people but somehow traveled back in time to bring you forward in time to kill him in the future .. All of the above with some amazing charachers and locations makes FF10 my favouritestestest story ever and one of my top 10 games of all time.
*** End of spoilers *** (Seriously? You've not played it? o.O)

Also have to give credit to ..
Final Fantasy 4, 6, 7 & 8
Lost Odyssey
The Witcher
Dragon Age Origins
(Yes, I like geeky RPG games .. what of it Mr.GenericShooterNo.6824?)

It has a good story and it could be realistic. Also the timeline in AC is great. That's why I like the story from AC.

Other great storylines:
Far Cry
Gears of War
Mass Effect
Elder Scrolls
Dragon Age

GTA 4 - The story was deep and interesting. Great characters that draws you in... or at least did me. The DLC just added to it, and was weaved VERY well into the overall picture.

Final Fantasy 4 (aka FF2) - My favorite FF story. Beginning to end, just a great engrossing game.

MW (1/2/3) - The whole through story was well done, and played very well. It had it's "meh" moment, but also had it's moments of "FUCK YEA!!".

RDR - Amazing, and probably my favorite overall game story, hands down. R* know their shit.

GTA San Andreas - By far the best one i've encountered. The One GTA game that kept you wanting more.

BioShock - Compelling storyline from start to finish. Underwater city filled with mutated psychopaths, why not.

Half Life - Hooked on this from the start. Aliens from another dimension that eventually take over the world and you have to vanquish them.

Feel free to add me on either Xbox One or Xbox 360 if you want to boost achievements.

The Phoenix Wright series has a fair bit of backstory behind the actual in-game cases that made me love the characters even more than I already did, so that gets my vote (with PW3 being the best individually, lots of turnabouts wrap into each other and it's generally very well-written).

Second place goes to the Assassin's Creed series for having a story engrossing enough to make me buy games that have multiplayer achievements (seems like it is *the* master of cliffhangers in gaming) and third place goes to Tales of Symphonia, the only RPG other than FF7 I've played multiple times.
