Games like Borderlands?

Forgive me if a thread for this already exists.

My Girlfriend and I are looking for another game similar to Borderlands to play together. I enjoy RPGs and she is, more or less, just starting out in video gaming. We are greatly anticipating the release of Borderlands 2 but were wondering if there is anything else similar we could play in until it is released.

Well the focus is on melee instead of guns, but Dead Island is extremely similar otherwise.

Haha, indeed! Though to be fair, one DLC in this did as well.

Yea Dead Island is pretty similar I would say. But nothing really comes too close to Borderlands with its crazy graphics, awesome story and stupid quirks. One of my favourite games and cant wait for the second one.

What??
There are plenty of games which are somewhat similar. Some of which I have played and/or longed for (although may not be co-op like Borderlands):
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Dead Island
The Darkness
Halo 3

I'm sure there are demo's for most of them on Live, so give them a go

Wait, you're not going to buy Borderlands 2 because of the Moxxi DLC from the first game? That makes exactly no sense. The main game was awesome. Every other DLC was awesome. Yeah, Moxxi was boring, especially if you wanted the achievements, but that's no reason to miss out on GOTY 2012.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't think that most of them will work for us as we are looking for a game to play co-op. We'll give Halo a try and look into dead island. Again, I appreciate the input.

forgive me i forgot about fallout and dead island but the rest in my opinion at least do not come close to borderlands type of gameplay Borderlands is a RPG like Dead Island and Fallout where you level up gain experience in a shooting kind of way unlike skyrim unless you class bows as shooting? and i meant going along the exact direction of borderlands without its weird kind of graphics.
And yes i wont be buying borderlands 2 i doubht it anyway the game wasnt amazing for me it was fun but too repetitive

Isn't The Darkness only on PS3?
Correct me if I'm wrong... :L

That makes no sense. You won't buy the sequel because one of the four DLC was bad? Hmmm...

When I played through Borderlands I couldn't help but be reminded of Mass Effect. Mass Effect doesn't have any co-op or multiplayer but it's very much a RPG/Shooter hybrid much like Borderlands. I enjoyed leveling up in both games. Mass Effect is much more story based but it's still a very fun game to just pick up and play.

I think RAGE is A LOT like borderlands, With rage being more "crisp" in graphics.
