Achievement Guide & Road Map
Achievement guide for Duke Nukem Forever
Estimated difficulty: 6
-offline 50 (1000g)
-approximate amount of time to 1000g: 20-25 hours
-minimum number of playthroughs needed: 2
-missable achivements:No (chapter select)
-cheats dissable achievements: yes
Play through 1 :Casual
This will allow you to easily clear the campaign and familiarize yourself with the environments and enemy spawns. You should also collect all of the collectables on this run as there is no way of tracking the collectables other than the Ego points. The Ego points are the most important of these as they increase dukes health which will be essential on the insane run-through. It is possible to get all of the kill and miscellaneous achievements on this run through though if you miss any this will not be a big issue as all can earned on the next run. If you want to do the “Gunslinger” achievement on this run keep it on you through all chapters. This run will net you the boss kills and the casual difficulty also.
Play through 2 :Insane
With Insane now unlocked this will be the next chosen difficulty. If you failed to max out your EGO it is advised to chapter select on a low difficulty as you will need all the health you can get. You will be able to complete any collectibles, kills or miscellaneous that you missed on the first run-through. This run is quite challenging as the enemy’s will hit hard and there are some extreme difficulty spikes. Keep to cover, all ways be either strafing or back-pedalling to avoid fire or charging enemy, All ways look for the weapons caches and save items like the beer, steroids and Holo-Duke for tough situations. If you have cleared all of the achievements this insane run will provide the final achievement
Play though 3 :Cleanup
If you are still missing kills or miscellaneous it is possible to chapter select for these. This also includes the golden gun which is given at the beginning of each chapter select though there is no way of tracking which levels have been done. If this list includes collectables you can still chapter select but ensure that you have made it to a checkpoint as it will not save the data ( not possible for “Party Animal” and “Pescaphobe”).
One-Eyed Freak10 Defeat the Cycloid
(story related) This is the Boss from the first mission in the game. To kill him just circle around the pitch hitting him with the devastator. When you run low on ammo look for the red flares that are dropped from the air as they signal supply drops. When his life bar is empty get close and perform the interactive scene to finish him
Pit Champion25 Defeat the Battlelord in Las Vegas
(story related) You will meet this boss towards the end of “Vegas In Ruins”. To take him down use the rocket launcher to keep peppering him. The rocket launcher only has 5 rounds in it so you will have to keep resupplying from the 2 boxes in the pit. If you seem to be taking too much damage run around the central column to break the boss’s line of site and block his attacks. Once he has taken enough damage head in for the kill like the first boss.
Not Bad for a Human40 Defeat the Alien Queen
(story related) This is the boss for the chapter “Queen Bitch”. To injure the boss throw an explosive onto the green bouncy platforms to the right side of the arena. Once the explosive hit’s the queen she will drop her guard leaving her open to a few shots from the rocket launcher. Her bulk of her attacks can be dogged by keeping to the sides of the ledge though the pregnator’s that she shoots out must be taken out. Once she enters the last quarter of her health the bouncy ledges will be destroyed and she will reduce her level of defence and become more aggressive. She will also summon a single Octobrain to support her, Take it down with the usual pipe bomb method by taking advantage of the explosive restock for the battle. Keep hitting her with missiles until her head falls to the deck. Go to the head and engage the QuickTime to finish of the boss.
A Good Dam Fight25 Defeat the Battlelord on the Hoover Dam
(story related)This Battle will take place at the end of the dam in “Dam Battle”. Stand next to the edge looking to the left. As soon as you see the boss start to climb out of the water run to the far end of the dam where you first climb up. Grab the rocket launcher on the left and open up on the battle lord. If you made it to this end of the dam quick enough the boss will mostly stay at the opposite end of the dam making the first stage a breeze. As he falls to his knees rush him and perform the horn rip to start the next stage. Fall back to the previous firing position and keep firing. The boss is likely to advance now putting you at risk. Use the destroyed delivery truck on the right for cover. Edge around the front of the truck an empty the launcher into him. When you run out of ammo run across the road and grab ammo before falling back to regain Ego. Keep doing this until he goes down a second time, rip of the horn and perform the finisher.
Octacide25 Defeat the Octaking
(story related) This is the hardest boss in the game and one of the hardest parts on an insane run-through
Lower difficulties: as the battle starts hand to the right behind the structure to doge the bosses primary attack. Use the pipe bombs to take out the Octobrains and reduce the incoming fire (explosive pile next to the ammo crate) Once they are down use the devastator to reduce the bosses life keeping an eye out for the next wave of Octobrains. Repeat this until the bosses health reaches 50% he will start to throw metal objects at the ledge. Don’t stand inside the structure on the left as this will most likely kill you. From now on no more Octobrains will spawn and any stragglers should be quickly dispatched. Move to the back left of the platform and move about a meter to the right. The bosses attacks should no longer hit you leaving you clear to rinse him with the devastator (refill ammo when necessary) With the enemy health meter down to zero he will crash to the deck at the far end of the room. Refill the devastator and prepare to fire as he will drag you towards him and will result in instant death to duke. With the bar empty again the boss should be defeated and the achievement unlocked.
Insanity (done with max Ego): Before getting on the crane you should have this gear (Beer and a Holo-Duke) Clear the enemy waves before the fight with the devastator as usual. As soon as the true battle starts keep to the right and the moment you see the first Octobrains drink the beer. Strafe from side to side and fire upon the Octobrains with the devastator. If you are lucky they should go down before you run out of ammo. Reload and fire upon the boss doing as much damage as possible before the Octobrains return. Pull back to the building on the right and grab the beer on the floor. Drink it and repeat the previous actions. At this point the boss should be near to half health. Head behind the structure and place the Holo-Duke down. Use the distraction to bring the bosses health down to the 50% mark before turning your attention on the remaining Octobrains. When the Holo-Duke runs out move behind the structure on the right until the boss has finished throwing items at the crane (pick off any straggling Octobrains if any remain) As with the easier difficulty move to the safe spot on the left side of the ledge and reduce the bosses health to zero and reload the devastator. It is important to be quick at this point as to finish of the boss you will need to empty more than a full magazine which will leave you with little time errors in re-supplying ammo and firing. With this the path is clear to finish the mission. (While people have been sugesting using the pipe bombs to kill the octobrains I found that the by the time you had killed them the next wave would be spawning)
Beating the One-Eyed Worm35 Defeat the Energy Leech
(story related) This is the underwater boss of the game and is located in the chapter “Blowin’ The Dam” the same as the catfish achievement. After you start to plant the second mine the boss will break out the vent and knock duke back. Fire upon the boss while strafing either left or right to doge his missile like attacks while making sure you are close to an air vents on the left and right. When he slams his head down make sure you keep moving to dodge and use the interval to collect ammo. When his health bar gets to a low level he will stop his ranged attacks and switch to a double head slam and a move where he will suck you into his mouth. Much like the first stage fire when he’s inactive, dodge and reload during his head slams. Make sure to keep a rocket in the gun at all times so if he does the suck attack you can break the action. With the health bar drained move in and perform the QuickTime and turn him into fleshy chunks.

Piece of Cake20 Complete the SP campaign on Easy Difficulty
See “Dam, I’m Good”
Let's Rock30 Complete the SP campaign on Normal Difficulty
See “Dam, I’m Good”
Come Get Some40 Complete the SP campaign on Hard Difficulty
see “Dam, I’m Good”
Damn, I'm Good50 Complete the SP campaign on Insane
The Insane difficulty will be locked on the first playthrough of the game and will require you to have first been through the game once. On this difficulty the enemy hit hard yet seem to take about the same amount of damage to go down. On the first run you should make sure to collect most if not all the ego points available to increase health levels. The ego points are linked to the “I Am All That Is Man” achievement (W.I.P). It should also be noted that when duke performs an exercution his ego bar is instantly filled and may be helpful in some of the more hectic firefights when there is not time to hide
chapter: crash course
AA turret section
Octaking boss fight
Extermination 25 Kill 50 aliens
See “Nuclear Devastation”
Annihilation 40 Kill 100 aliens
See “Nuclear Devastation”
Nuclear Devastation 50 Kill 250 aliens
Kill 250 enemies throughout the game; this will come with natural progression and should unlock around the alien queen boss battle
Downtown Barrel Beatdown15 Kill 10 aliens with tossed objects
On the chapter “The Duke cave” The game will teach you how to throw objects at enemies. Dispatch the first enemy and then proceed into the next room. Throw objects from the room at the two aliens to bring your total up to 3. Revert to checkpoint until you hit the ten total kills (you may have to resort to melee with the two together if overwhelmed.
Dead Useful15 Kill 10 aliens with environmental explosives
Whenever the enemy is near an explosive container on the level (barrel/tank) set it off and if the enemy is killed by the explosion it is added to the count. A good place for these kills is in “The Duke Cave” or the crane ride from “natural disaster”
Judge, Jury, Executioner 20 Execute 20 aliens When an enemy is near death they will fall to their knees and duke can execute them by pressing x. If this achievement is causing problems frozen enemies can also be executed. The first time you will find the freeze gun is at the very beginning of “The shrunk machine” next to the 3 survivors
Baron von Nukem20 Shoot down 20 alien fighters
These are the craft that attack duke on the AA gun when you attack the mother ship in “Mother Ship Battle” fire the AA gun at the craft that is targeting duke as they will instantly drain the Ego bar. If you miss the achievement here you can also kill fighters on the “crash course” chapter when you are on the turret of the crashed chopper
Duke Angry, Duke Smash!20 Kill 15 aliens with melee attacks while on steroids
When on steroids duke takes very little damage and does large amounts of melee damage. Try to do this when there is a large group of ground units. Good places for this are either the very first time you recive steriods, see "Juiced" and the room with 2 steriods in "The Lady Killer prt2". you can revert to checkpoint to quickly boost this in one place
Trapper20 Kill 10 aliens with Trip Mines
Press LB to throw down a trip mine on a surface. After a couple of seconds the mine will activate and emit a laser beam that is triggered by enemy movement. Bait the enemy over the mine to kill the target. Mines can also be attached to the enemy but have a short throwing range. These will first become available at the end of the lady killer chapter
Sticky Bomb Like You!10 Put a Trip Mine on a live alien
As mentioned in “Trapper” simply stick the trip mine onto the enemy. This is possible from the last room of “The lady killer Prt3” onwards. The mine does not have to kill the target to unlock achievement.
Easy spot is "The Duke Dome"
YouTube - ‪Duke Nukem Forever - Sticky Bomb Like You! Trophy / Achievement Guide‬‏
This is best done with the pipe bomb or a map based explosives. A good early spot for this is the crane ride at the beginning of “The Duke Dome”. time the explosion for when the pigs are grouped together. Multiple explosives can be used to kill the enemies as long as they die at the same time
Big Guns, Big Ships10 Blow up 5 enemy gunships or dropships
1- The first AA sequence in “Mothership battle”
2- The first AA sequence in “Mothership battle”
3 -The first AA sequence in “Mothership battle”
4-Fight triggered after collecting the battery for the crane in “The Duke Dome”
5-After the AA section in the chapter “Crash Course”
6-At the very start of “The Mighty Foot” you will have to eliminate the ship to land
7-During “Highway Battle Prt2” while crossing the mine you will come across a crashed ship and will come under attack (after the pig rush)
Hippy-Stomper 20 Foot stomp 12 aliens
When an enemy is down shrunk by either duke or the environment walk up to them and duke will stomp them to death. The first time you will find the shrink ray is on the roof holdout at the end of the chapter “The Duke Burger”
Road Rage20 Kill 15 aliens with the monster truck The first time you get to drive this is after being dropped of at the begging of “The Mighty Foot” If you run over everyone on the way you should unlock this before hitting the freeway. Though there is plenty of opportunity to unlock this in the next chapters
On the Noggin25 Kill 30 aliens with headshots
This is easiest to do with the rail gun which is the games sniper weapon. A good area for increasing the headshot count is “Highway battle prt 2” as there is lots of sniper ammo in the area. The pigs also like to go for the turret which should help keep them still for an easy shot
Freeze Well!20 Kill 15 frozen aliens
The first time you will find the freeze gun is at the very beginning of “The shrunk machine” next to the 3 survivors. The guns ammo will recharge so don’t worry about running out while going for the achievement. Keep the beam focused on the enemy till they freeze and either punch, shoot or execute the enemy to finish them. Continue till 20 are eliminated
Fork the Pork10 Kill 6 aliens with the forklift
At the beginning of “The Forkstop prt 2” there will be a forklift on a ledge. Use the panel to lower the forklift to the ground and drive down the corridor. Ram the enemies to kill them and add to the tally. There should be 7 before you have to abandon the Forklift. If you miss this here you can attempt to do this in the room for the companion barrel though this is less practical

Turd Burglar10 Find and steal a piece of poo
As soon as you have finished taking a piss at the beginning of the game take the path to the right into the shower room and open up the toilets. When you find a Turd press the use button (x) to pick it up
Drawrings10 Doodle something on the whiteboard in SP
Right after getting the “Turd burglar” head through to the next room and head over to the weight board. Interact with the board and draw a line to unlock this achievement
Sunday, Black Sunday5 Shoot down the blimp above the stadium
During the boss battle in “Duke Lives” Look up in the sky and find the blimp flying around. Use the devastator to bring it down though you may have to aim ahead of the blimp due to the rockets travel time
After heading down the elevator from your apartment there will be a vending machine on you’re right on the way to the talk show set. Spam the order button and eat the food deposited. If you miss this there is a large plate of donuts (6-8) that should reduce the work in the long run
Nobody Likes a Whiner5 Knock out the talent at the talk show
After leaving the set of the “Very Late Show” you will come across an actor harassing a microphone man that has ruined his performance. Head up to the whiner and duke will raise his fists so you can punch him down.
Balls of Steel25 Earn a 1,000,000 pinball score in SP
The first pinball machine is located in the gym's left corner right after they teach the player how the throw objects in “The Duke Cave” (Method explained in video)
Find a beer and drink it. The first beer is in the chapter "The Duke Cave" when you enter the gym
Juiced5 Take steroids in SP
Find the steroids and down them. In the same chapter as the first beer you will have to power up a system with 3 power cores. Once in place a steriods pot will emmerge
Substance Abuser10 Drink beer while on steroids or vice versa in SP
When you have both a beer and steroids in your inventory take them both after each other and the achievement will unlock. If you save the beer from the gym you can get this in the same chapter after finding the steriods, see "Juiced"
Gunslinger50 Carry the gold pistol through the whole SP campaign
This is the first pistol you are given in the game towards the end of the chapter “The duke Cave” after fixing the generator by inserting the three power cores. You must carry this gun through the entire game to get this achievement (levels before you find the gun do not count towards this). Multiple users have told me it is all right to drop the pistol as long as you have it when you advance (checkpoints can cause the pistol to be deleted when lying on the floor). This is possible on a first run-through if you want to get it out the way on an easier difficulty.
(possible to do this achievement by chapter select if have lost the pistol durring your playthrough,CrustyDirtDemon)
I Need a Towel10 Get hit by 10 Pregnator bombs
After completing "The Duke Dome" you will find yourselfs in a tunnel stage very reminisent of the alien quaddrilogy. From here on look out for bug like creatures that fire white goo at duke. These are the ones that come out the pods and should not be confused with the Octobabies. Get hit by thier ranged attack 10 times for this to count (Not the leap attacks) There is a large amount of this enemy at the end of "The Hive Prt2" just don't get to close or they will revert to leaping.
Lots of Whacking25 Win a game of Alien Abortion in the strip club
In Duke Nukem’s Titty city head through to the game room and go to the alien abortion machine and start the game. Aliens will pop out the machine and you press x to whack them. The machine has 5 waves which increase in speed. To guarantee the achievement hit all the aliens and the achievement should pop at the end of the 5th round.
Air-Duke30 Win air hockey with a score of 7-0 in the strip club
In Duke Nukem’s Titty city head through to the game room and head over to the air hockey table and press the use button. Beat the oponent without losing a point to get the acheviment (leaving the table resets the score)
The first holo duke in the game can be found in the same place as the shrink ray on the rooftop in "Dukes Burger Bar Prt3". it is stored inside a crate in the biulding on the roof,Press right on the d-pad to activate
I Need a Date5 Look at every page of a calendar in SP
In the room right after getting the freeze ray for the first time there will be a corner room with double doors. Once inside do a u-turn and there is a calendar on the wall. Flip through all the pages to unlock the achievement. See number 27 on the Ego guide for a video location
Companion Barrel10 Unlock the secret closet at the end of the Forkstop
At the end of Forkstop prt2 you will come across another forklift. Once the room is cleared of enemies extend the prongs to the highest level. Drive the forklift to the railing on the walkway opposite to the one you need to take. Get out and climb the forklift to access the walkway. The barrel is located down the corridor where the enemy spawned from. Take the barrel with you and climb up the other side of the room towards the end of the level. On the left there will be a pink heart drawn on the floor, drop the barrel on the heart and the door will open unlocking the achievement and a large stock of supplies
During the battle with the alien queen she will do a purple coloured blast attack much like the octobrains. When this hits duke he will get knocked down to the ground and get up. Keep dogging the queens other attacks until you are hit 10 times (watch out for the Pregnator’s that she shoots)
Special Thanks5 Watch the credits all the way through
After the final boss is dead and the credits begin to roll just let them play through till the extra cut scene starts.

Like a trapper - For an easy way to get this, when you're in duke dome (part 2 I think) you'll be in a portacabin you enter through the roof while waves of pig cops come at you, there's a box in the corner which allows you to "get explosives" you throw four triplines, get more ammo and keep throwing to get kills without having to worry about aiming or running out of ammo, once the cabin tips over, either use your last four to get kills and the achievement or let yourself die and redo =D
Need a towel - There is a section in hive part 2 where there are a load of eggs in a room to your right down a tiny slope and two pregnators running about, if you distance yourself from them just at the top of the slope they will fire their attack and you can run into it, this is easier than getting close to them as they will do their grab attack on you which results in either you or them dying.
Even genius has to pay it's dues.
It's goodbye to the shortcuts, hello to the grind.
Nobody ever said it would be an easy ride.
So, push more, risk more, feel more.
How much is just a question of courage,
A matter of heart.

Hope this help, and should be updated in GUIDE!!! Also dont forget to include all the cheevos that already have vids for them. Especially the Pescaphobe, and the Bucket Head, And eventually the Phone MSGS.
I have the 1K and was first in world to do it. None of which I had or used a GUIDE for. So once this is done it will be quite convienient. Also I would guess that most people will put in more than 15-20 hours. My first playthrough was roughly 8 hours. And my Insane was well over 10. Some parts can take forever being that they are so Flippn CHEAP...
And due to this the difficulty probally IMO should be more than a 5/10. Maybe once you have the 1K you will adjust it based on what u experience. But roughly a 6/10 and on some parts of insane a 8/10, just a few parts though. So possibly a 7/10 would seem more appropriate.
"Dont hate the player, HATE the game!!!!"
Hope this insight helps!!!

In my opinion it easier just to throw a trip mine at an enemy than it is to freeze them first. plus the freeze ray only appears a few times later in the game.
The achievement difficulty of the game should be less than a 5. insane may be the only difficult one to get but as long as you've got all the ego boosts you'll get the achievement and cake. Currently working on my insane but my first play through was on hard without all the ego boosts and I carried the gold pistol.
lots of whacking
if you set the height correctly its possible to aim at every alien just by pressing left or right makes it a lot easier to get a perfect score even though you dont need it.
damn, i'm good
During the lady killer casino take a bin with you everywhere its the most powerful tool at your disposal. Will also count towards the tossed object achievement and I'm guessing the explosive environment with the barrels later cause I rarely shot any of them but got the achievement.
got mine from killing a group of octobabies and pregnators on the hive, prob got about 5 or 6 at the same time
duke angry, duke smash
on the level where you wait for the elevator as mini duke you get attacked by an octo baby hoard.
octobabies, dont need a shrink ray
balls of steel
technique going about how the ball can be held in the left flipper and repeatedly knocked against the left panels and caught in the flipper again.

Also over 2500 people have played this game on T.A. and there as of last night were only 2 tracked gamers who have 1K it, and only 4 who had beaten it on INSANE. With over 2500 people playing since launch on the 10th, if it were "CAKE" more would have the 1K or at least INSANE done.
Just to give a perspective My buddy xXGambit 69Xx 1k'd Green Lantern and Red Faction Armagedon in the time frame it took me to finish this. Which was only 2 days, but i put in some serious gaming session, logging more than 15 hours for my INSANE run.

to be fair, not everyone played insane or finished the game, or played around 25 hours in 2 days and some played other games too.
Thanks to Gackt for this amazing sig!

You could also do what you asked for the golden pistol, but it actually is a good weapon and can be combined with your insane cheevo if your brave enough!

Just so I understand this.....
Once you unlock Damn I'm Good difficulty (old school Duker here lol), you can hit chapter select to the final level on that difficulty, beat it and get the other difficulty achievements? Without having to play the entire game on that difficulty setting?

I tried that same method and does not work. You must play all the levels on INSANE. Just use your chapter select and pick the first level on INSANE and play it out. And if you take a break you then can select the continue option and u will be where u left off "last checkpoint that is" but still on INSANE.
So long vs. Short: You need to play all level on insane. NO CHEAP TRICKS....Thus FAR!!!

The tiny Duke vs regular sized Enforcer part is actually quite easy if you do it right, I got it right on my first try by kiting him around the giant crate in the room and blasting him with my shotgun. When that ran out the enforcer was nearly dead so I finished him off with my freeze ray. There's also a ripper on the floor you can use as well...
Also about Call Waiting...it doesn't require much active searching at all, just click on every phone you see. After my Let's Rock playthrough I was going out and collecting the ego boosts and when I went to get the cigar in Duke Burger that was the only phone I had left. So just be diligent, click every phone, and make sure you get the one at the beginning of Duke Burger and you'll get it very easily.
I used a slightly different strategy for the Octaking on insane where I disposed of the little minions with pipe bombs. That's the toughest part, once he stops spawning octobrains all you have to do is keep strafing and making sure you don't get hit by his slow projectiles. You can even shoot them down with the devastator, haha. Also there is an EDF crate on the crane that usually has beer...At least it did for me.
Anyways...I got my 1k and there isn't much left for me to say here so I'm gonna be working on finishing my Warriors Orochi achievements while waiting for Alice to come out...See ya all later!

I haven't played the game over the w/e but you're missing a few Ego stuff. I think I've only just passed the level with the RC/Vega etc and I've found a fair few more than 3.
Couple I remember is:
While making your way to the studio at the start of the game, look in all the rooms as you make your way through the corridors. One room has 3 guys in it (2 near a table and one to the back - The one at the back is an excited fan!)
If you look kitchen side in front of him, you'll see a microwave and some popcorn to the side. Open the microwave, pick the popcorn up and place it inside. Shut the microwave and turn it on and you'll unlock some Ego.
Next one is in the gym. Clear the room, then interact with all the equipment. So punch the bags and hanging ball. Then head to the dung-bells and do one crunch (or what ever it is). Now find all the big round weights around the room and put 3 on each side of the lift bar.
Interact with it and press repeatedly to lift it up. All these unlock Ego.
I suggest you start working along side THIS to help the guide along.
